BMW has been building motorcycles for over 100 years and they are actually known for being extremely reliable with a lot of touring bikes going over 250K miles.
You're right about the S1000XR. I'm completely in love with mine. And I know you like to pick on Harley riders, but I've exclusively riden Harleys for the last 35+ years until I bought my BMW last October. I haven't riden my Harley (2007 Electra Glide classic, 2015-103"TC, cammed, chipped, Rinehart true duals, and dyno'd at 115hp) once since I bought my XR. And I'm 66 years old.
I'm going to be so happy when this BMW finally gets given away so we don't have to hear about it being given away, and I know I speak for all members of this channel.
I’m a noob with no bike or experience…. I entered this one. Having said that, I’ll sell it and most likely get an MT07 or 780 Duke. Everyone I know has a bike, even my girlfriend, I decided a month ago it was time to get one.
Respect for Yammie for praising BMW even though we all know he doesnt like BMW and has given this particular model lots of flak in the past. Regarding the cons, pls keep in mind that (IIRC) only the US version has the torque deadspot, not the Europe and Latam version (ends up getting the EU factory flash)
Love my '23 s1k. Perfect bike. I dont need the "pizzazz" of "yeah it runs perfect but if you hit 9k rpm in 3rd gear on the 2nd tuesday of the month, itll yeet you straight into a wall". Ill stick with my cold, calculated German engineering 😂
this is the issue with literbikes, they tend to make you a missle and hit the wall/floor if you are not in total control of your bike. Honestly i dont see a real reason to got above 600/650cc on a more sport oriented bike (sadly bmw doesnt do anything below 999 in this category) even here in germany where the autobahn is unlimited 200-250 km/h is enough. But quality and engineering wise its kind of a dream bike and just awesome
I have a 2023 and love it! Use it as a daily rider. I'm curious how you were able to get 180-200 miles on a full tank, I can only get about 120-130 before I get the low fuel warning.
According to my BMW dealership mechanic, the 1000km 8000rpm limit is not for longevity of the engine, its because they were having so many dead new owners that they implemented that.
I have this bike and will say, the bike is a bit lacking as a stock machine. I feel like you should skip new 1000cc bikes if you don’t plan to modify it. If you do want to modify the bike, these things are absolutely wild machines and the best over all street bike you can own.
These are great bikes, if you're curious or don't believe that, you can go spend a day riding one on track with California Superbike School. That's a great way to test ride this bike (not the M though) and learn a lot of skills.
how many years would you reccomend riding before getting a liter bike? i know everyone growth is subjective to the rider but what would you say is a rough estimate?
It depends on what you're doing with the liter bike. If you're just cruising around under 100 mph, maybe hitting twisties and doing urban commutes, and NOT doing highway races against other riders, then it could be your second bike after, say, a scooter or bike that you can semi safely whiskey throttle. On the other hand, if you're getting a liter bike to ride it to its limit (preferably with all rider aids turned off), then I'd guess you'd need to the do the 125cc --> 250 --> 400 --> 600 progression. Bear in mind that each time you crash the bike it will cost you at least $2000, and more like 5 to 10 K.
Not 600 but 650, I’d say the CBR650R. Might not be the fastest, but gets great milage and its upright enough to spend some hours without destroying your back/wrists, also looks good, good reliability (I mean, Honda) can’t go wrong with it, plenty of power for streets and commuting (around 90-96hp)
I mean I know 600s and 1000s are primarily meant for the track… but as we’ve heard in this video, the BMW S1000RR is the most comfortable sports bike for the road… Is the Kawasaki Ninja Zx-6R the most comfortable 600cc bike for the streets?

you know what would be interesting? researching the impact that all the mining and transportation of all the elements that it takes to create an EV battery, and the entire EV... and comparing that to a Beginner bike, or something like the Suzuki V-Strom 250 SX, as well as the running/charging and service costs... and then mention how a bike like this with the ability to go straight though the congestion rather than adding to it combats one of the biggest transport issues crippling the worlds cities... Lets Teach the world that getting a small efficient Motorbike is MUCH better for the planet and the economy than buying an EV! especially when the cost to the planet when building a small bike and covering 100,000kms on it using 1/4 the fuel a small 4 cylinder car, Is MINISCULE in comparison to the Mining that is involved for EV production, the transporting of the mined materials across oceans, to be refined and sent back across another ocean for the next process, and so on... and all of the facilities that do this are powered by fossil fuels, and so are the power stations that create the electricity to charge them!
@Mr_everything10 there was one on a dyno and one on a track day. Both denied. There have been others to. Bmw has an issue and they aren't telling people and are denying claims. 25k and it doesn't go for years without an issue is a problem for me. Idk what years the problems started. Maybe 2021 bikes are different and don't have the issue idk.

Still waiting for yammie to review NSR250 with its chip.

Looks like yams trip to turkey worked out. Thus the continued absence of the trademark hat of the last 5+ years. Good deal.
I wonder how much shift cam technology would affect a 600 inline 4 and how far it would go to revitalize the segment.
Thanks yammie for picking me for the giveaway!
Wow, that's an expensive first service.. that same bike, the first service up here in Canada at the Motorad dealer is only about $500 Canadian Rupees
