Probaly not. The place looks very much like some rural places in Malaysia. And 20 hours is way too long of a travel time for me 😅

4:31, Did you notice that Sri Lanka, Taiwan and Philippines is not included on the map? Even me, I never noticed that Taiwan and Philippines is not the list, which is strange and weird or Timor Leste never heard the country of Sri Lanka, Taiwan and Philippines.

Love the travelogue - I'm glad the churches community is strong in Timor Leste and you even had time for service. You managed to cover so many places within a few days.
What took my attention is the hike up the hill with the JC statue and the village wc. Well at least it's contained and comes with a door to shield.
Indonesian is not too hard. Broken Indo language is quite passable. if you travel again I could teach you a few basic words. 🌞
Did not see much seafood. Like fresh sea catch. And oh ya Darwin has the largest mud crabs some larger than my head. I miss those 🦀

My mind has been restless lately cannot seem to finish my computer work before bedtime on weekday nights.
Usually Saturday is for catch up, for interior project, construction work quite common to use Saturday to plan for next week work.

Yes Portuguese and their own language. U can learn your Portuguese and use it there 😂

Actually there are at least local languages. Timorese are multilingual. Most speak their maternal tongue and the official language of tetun (or Tetum - which is the Portuguese word for the language). However in more remote villages people will often only speak their mother tongue.
Depending on their age, many Timorese will often speak Indonesian because of the Indonesian occupation. But younger Timorese also pick up Indonesian from watching TV. Indonesian is considered a working language.
Portuguese is the other official language and is taught in schools. The Courts and Parliament are meant to be conducted in Portuguese, but I have watched the lower courts, and the judge is speaking tetun.
Finally English is also another working language. In Dili, a lot of people speak it.

It seems to me that we have a lot to learn about life.... when you see and meet people and children enjoying the simple things in life and being free and happy..it makes you wonder why we are getting thing's so wrong on many aspects of our lives.what I've found on my travels is the people who have the least to give.. would gladly give you the shirt off there backs.....yet the people who seem to have most things in life are the total opposite....a lesson we privileged should take note of.....

As a world traveler have you developed any personal guidelines on which foods you will or will not eat based on health or sanitary or food preparation conditions when visiting other countries? For example, fried foods tend to have less germs due to frying, while fresh fruit might have more.
I eat everything that locals eat. For me, it’s to “localize” 😁. Just wash your hand. You’re fine

Is timor better on its own or as part of Indonesia. The last time i recalled it was 27th province of indonesia before separation. Indon is very bitter with Aussie on this event..

I think it’s a bit too much travel to just stay in Dili. I think there would be much nicer untouched landscape if you travel further away from Dili.

I wonder how do you keep healthy in such places like lower sanitation and prevent food poisoning while you travel.
i didn't do any special. i just eat and live like locals

Actually the sanitation is not too bad. In Dili and most towns houses have running water. There are often flush toilets and plenty of water to wash with. Although in remote villages the water supply is a common pump. Bathrooms and toilets are separate.
In Dili the water is not safe, but that is more to do with the pipes. However there cheap and huge bottles (10 or 20 litres) of safe water to drink and cook with. Alternatively you boil the water.

I would say Tajikistan is the least known, but then again... East Timor (Which means "East East") is the only country in Southeast Asia that I haven't been to, though...
I knew Tajikistan long time ago. But didn’t know about Timor until 2 yrs ago
