Sometimes virtual gunstock can be useful for beginners or cofertable intermediate people it can help aim if have shaky hands it can help aim while still having fluid movement but thank you theta it is so useful with your videos even though I’ve been playing for four years I still have just learned times now from you

You forgot about G3 on marksman if you wanted a fully auto weapon with a scope and a teammate runs the drum you can get a 12x scope and a 100 drum. It’s nuts
You're not wrong, but nobody does that in the league aside from some of the newer teams. G3s aren't good marksman weapons and there are better options if you're a rifleman.
Very helpful video, condensed and straight to the point! When you were talking about the trade off on the +3 for the AUG. I feel like the AUG is a very compact and useful rifle. The +3 is because the foregrip is already built into the rifle which is the trade off on any other +1 rifle +2 with the foregrip!
"Compact" doesn't really do anything for you in Onward, and by using the AUG you deprive yourself of the ability to share ammo and use drums. It's also just awkward to use compared to a standard rifle. These are just some of the reasons you will never see it used in high level matches.

Thanks for the video it was very informative but I wanted to give you a little bit of feedback on why there are angled sight in the rifleman class they’ve got it in there for if you want to run rifleman with a four by scope on your gun so that you can have a short range sight too
Right on. I haven't used it at all since I'm on a CV1, but it's my understanding it works pretty well for those with inside-out tracking headsets (like the Quest).
great video. A few additions: if you have the watch on left bottom (or rather, offhand bottom), you can read it pretty well when holding a rifle without any need for twisting or ungripping your hand. And for the height: I think, at least it was that way back in the day, that it is the height of the top of the actual headset. Basically, I set it so that my avatar's legs are fully extended when I am standing fully upright, which is about 10cm (3-4 in) lower than my actual body height. And I am maining (but not competitively anymore) the AUG A3. It comes with a foregrip preinstalled, hence the 3 points. So it's pretty much equivalent to the AK5C (full auto over the M16's burst), except the ergonomics and it doesn't have free droping magazines. But both don't bother me that much. And lastlky, making me feel realy duncy for writing such long replys to oldish videos: as of 1.8., body armor doesn't work at all. Tested it personally (it's in my mythbusters video). Gonna retest that in the near future.
Setting your height below your real height is against the rules in the league because it can be (and has been) exploited. Nobody uses the AUG competitively because of the lack of drop mag, plus the incompatibility it has with M16-style mags (which includes drums). Bullpups are also awkward for many people to use, especially stock users. Body armor now works, even though it didn't when 1.8 first released. I appreciate your interest in my videos, but please don't leave gigantic comments like this, especially when you aren't involved in the comp scene and aren't keeping up with the meta. It's nothing personal, just want to keep my videos oriented to comp players.

You talk a little about cross dominance, do you think a right handed but left eye dominance should fire left handed? I Am left eye dominant and find it much easier just using my left hand for shooting.
I'm the same way, as I'm left eye dominant and right handed. But I've never had problems other than figuring out how to record out of my left eye so I can see where I'm aiming when I watch my footage.
I got capped on couple days ago when my knife didn't kill the capper because I forgot I had changed the setting to require input this was just in a comp lobby and lots of things had to go wrong for me to even be in that situation....but it got me thinking I've also never knifed someone I'm trying to res and i wonder if one of the many updates over the yrs has made it harder to make that mistake
I'm a new player and so far I actually really like the shotguns. I found my best games I ran a slig shotgun loadout.load out. I really liked the support class also
First of all, get a BowkVR stock: BowkVR.com. Secondly, the only setting difference is I personally set the physical stock to on. It allows you to look up without confusing your controllers. Other than that, everything else is the same.
You can do whatever you want in regular pub lobbies. But if you troll people in a comp lobby, where people are often trying to practice for matches, don't be surprised if you get removed.

@@collinnielsen9596 The MCX is a viable weapon, maybe even OP. Basically a MK18 with a built in suppressor that works better than the add-on suppressors for other guns. The new AK is pretty meh. Poor accuracy, high recoil and a low fire rate. Some competitors are using them but I think they'll realize sooner rather than later it's not worth taking.
Nope. You're expected to learn how to recognize who your friends are. The rule of thumb is to look at your gloves, as they are always the same color as your teammates.
Just depends on the map and what kind of positions you find yourself in. Flashes are best for when you want to clear a corner quickly - toss it high and then rush. They aren't that useful on larger maps, and their effect only lasts 7 seconds. Smokes, on the other hand, blind people and can provide cover for you or your teammates for about 35 seconds. They're best for long range maps or when you want to force someone to come out of a defensive position (since they'll be blind if you smoke them out). I find smokes more useful in general so I bring them on just about every round, but like I said it all depends on the situation.
I know some people use a special spray to fix that, but the best thing to do preemptively is make sure you aren't using push to sprint. Edge sprint is much easier on your thumb sticks.
Personally, I do have the stock setting turned on. I don't have a physical stock, but this way I don't have to line both my hands up perfectly just to see through my sight. I can just point and it will automatically have the red dot or whatever optic in view, it was so hard to aim before I turned that on.

My game instantly improved loads after turning that on bc when I go from running with barrel pointed at the ground to pulling it up and shooting, I can just aim and shoot. Before I had to line up my hands properly, THEN aim and shoot, all why trying to keep my hands steady and not lose the line up.

Ngl, I play Onward just to have fun and to mess about with cool guns. I like the MP5 because of the HK slap, I like to use the AKS74u because of the cool reload as well. As a newer player, I'd say just play to have fun, if you wanna dick around with something stupid, do it, just don't be a jerk to other players. Hi Theta, I'm brand spankin' new to VR an watching a ton of your (2 year old) Onward videos...and learning a ton I hope to apply. I just, and I do mean JUST got a Quest 2 this past Thursday so although I'm seriously interested in Overwatch, I'm still at the overwhelmed, and in awe stage with the basics of VR in general. Anyway, just wanted to pop in and say I'm loving your videos. Are you still playing Overwatch? If not, what have you moved onto? Are you still in Discord?
In my opinion night vision is useless because all the night maps still have enough light for you to see over long distances and things like that so you just wasting points getting night vision
iv been playing onward for a few months now and i agree that the pistol is pretty never used bu tin a few sircumstances its actualy benn the matter off me winning a match or lossing a couple of times my team was pinned in a hout in big maps and out of ammo and i was in a nother room when a grenade killed them all and i eventualy ran out of my primary wepon a m4 with a 4x and had to sap to my 1911 and watied at a angle for the last 2 guys to enter the building and i won what im saying is i would bring a 1911 fro pistol cause it dos more damage and ur not going to be using it that much anyway in my appinion the extra couple of points is worth it but every person has a load out that works best for them
I prefer non dominant hand watch bottom, so you can keep your aim and not have to rotate your hand when you let go of the hand guard/foregrip. Also if you’re left handed, keep it right handed and left eye dominant. Since most gamers are used to moving with the left stick, this will help you from using the right stick to walk and you can still shoot left handed.
Watch side is all preference as far as I'm concerned. I like bottom of my right hand, but your setup is good too. The dominant eye setting is for streaming/recording from a specific eye, it doesn't impact anything else in the game. And I can tell you from experience that it's broken because I have to jump through hoops to record correctly since I'm cross-eye dominant.
@@ThetaVR it effects mine. Because I’ve forgotten to change to left eye dominant and it puts the rifle to my right eye because I have it set to right handed.
@@rebeltexan2814 No, that isn't what that feature does. All it does is control which eye is rendered if you're recording. Your hand dominance changes things around, but that is the explicit purpose of the eye dominance setting.
You're given a set number of points to spread across primary, secondary and utility. You don't lose points but there are good and bad ways to use them. Loadout efficiency is all about figuring out the best point distributions for each class.
Ill just say, what's with the impatience particularly in this game? If someone needs 30 seconds to put night vision on their loadout and they're new it's ok. You can be using this time to strategize on the white board with your team so you can all be on the same page, which.. Honestly is just a really good idea in general. This also gives them time to ask questions about their loadout "hey is the body armor worth a damn or should i get a smoke" shit like that, which new players just don't know until they ask.
It's more about what kind of lobby you're in. If it's a pub and the player is brand new, then I agree with what you're saying. But if someone is on their first day/week and joins a comp lobby (which gives you a warning before you join it that says "This is for experienced players"), then it's a problem. Everyone in a comp lobby will expect you to have a loadout ready to go and not make 9 other people wait while you figure it out.
If you can stick with the PKM and learn how to load it quickly, it's a much better weapon. The G3 isn't terrible but that extra ammo in the PKM is useful.
You only get one shot, and even if you hit someone with it you usually will only down them. If you're playing against anyone who knows what they're doing, they'll just shoot you and revive anyone who you downed. Really not worth the trade-off of only having a pistol after that one shot. This is especially bad if you're planning on competing, because they are banned on every map except Quarantine and Downfall. Those are both big maps, so you will be stuck with a short-range weapon (pistol) on a large map after taking your shot.
i strongly disagree on not using pistols... they are great for backup! on marsoc the standard m9 is good but a red dot sight makes it really good, the glock has a couple more rounds but not really worth the extra point, neither is the colt. on volk the makarov and tt33 is bad but the five seven is the best pistol in the game, it is also worth putting a red dot on it... it is absolutely worth two points, depending on what primary you got! rpg, one frag and one flash with a five seven red dot is a fun loadout. also a silenced g36 with a five seven red dot is a good one... silencer is really quiet and it has very good accuracy on full auto, but you will run out of ammo so the five seven comes in handy! practice long range shots with pistols on the range... they are capable!
You might have your height set incorrectly. Otherwise I have no idea, because it makes sprinting a matter of pushing the stick to the edge. If the problem persists you should ask the devs in the official Onward Discord about it.
I’ve been playing Onward for over a year now, and have enjoyed watching your videos too. I watched this video early on, but it surfaced again in my TH-cam feed. You mention in the loadouts how not to use certain features because it wastes points. Is there an advantage to using less points in your load out? If you have extra points to spare, does it change your gameplay any if, for example, you have night vision during a day game, or an extra grenade? Does it weigh you down in the game so that you run slower for instance? thanks for any insight.
Not using all of your points just means you and your teammates have fewer in-game resources to work with. Points don't affect movement speed or anything like that, but it's always best to bring as much utility as possible.
@@ThetaVR I like to sneak around a lot and I need the bi pod so I can stabilize my hand with the other one, I’m sure if I got a gun stock I will switch to fore grips tho

I used the virtual gunstock setting and works good. It says uses inside out tracking Wich the quest uses.

Nope, can't say there are. The weapons have remained unchanged for quite some time.

Set your handedness in game to right handed. Causes some other issues, but there’s no other way to do that. It’s an unfortunate trade-off.
The m39 is wicked for me anyways. Love that weapon.

Ngl, I play Onward just to have fun and to mess about with cool guns. I like the MP5 because of the HK slap, I like to use the AKS74u because of the cool reload as well. As a newer player, I'd say just play to have fun, if you wanna dick around with something stupid, do it, just don't be a jerk to other players. If you wanna be effective in a game, you can do that too. Thanks for the tips, I hope to see me get better at the game.
Agreed. If you play to have fun there's nothing wrong with that, just don't ruin the experience for everyone else.

The SA80 has drum magazines that can be used in many of the Marsoc rifles, and the G3 has drums that can be shared only with other G3 users.

I just, and I do mean JUST got a Quest 2 this past Thursday so although I'm seriously interested in Overwatch, I'm still at the overwhelmed, and in awe stage with the basics of VR in general.

In my opinion night vision is useless because all the night maps still have enough light for you to see over long distances and things like that so you just wasting points getting night vision

You can't. You can only hold guns in front of you.

So I’m a kid playing this game and I’m always crouching so I cant sprint unless I climb up o to my couch. What should I do the height is the max btw.
Your height being max makes the game think your a tall person crouching. Bring it down to your hight or if ur an oompa loompa just minimum
iv been playing onward for a few months now and i agree that the pistol is pretty never used bu tin a few sircumstances its actualy benn the matter off me winning a match or lossing a couple of times my team was pinned in a hout in big maps and out of ammo and i was in a nother room when a grenade killed them all and i eventualy ran out of my primary wepon a m4 with a 4x and had to sap to my 1911 and watied at a angle for the last 2 guys to enter the building and i won what im saying is i would bring a 1911 fro pistol cause it dos more damage and ur not going to be using it that much anyway in my appinion the extra couple of points is worth it but every person has a load out that works best for them
I prefer non dominant hand watch bottom, so you can keep your aim and not have to rotate your hand when you let go of the hand guard/foregrip. Also if you’re left handed, keep it right handed and left eye dominant. Since most gamers are used to moving with the left stick, this will help you from using the right stick to walk and you can still shoot left handed.
Watch side is all preference as far as I'm concerned. I like bottom of my right hand, but your setup is good too. The dominant eye setting is for streaming/recording from a specific eye, it doesn't impact anything else in the game. And I can tell you from experience that it's broken because I have to jump through hoops to record correctly since I'm cross-eye dominant.
@@ThetaVR it effects mine. Because I’ve forgotten to change to left eye dominant and it puts the rifle to my right eye because I have it set to right handed.

@@rebeltexan2814 No, that isn't what that feature does. All it does is control which eye is rendered if you're recording. Your hand dominance changes things around, but that is the explicit purpose of the eye dominance setting.

how do points work? do you lose points for taking more weapons?
You're given a set number of points to spread across primary, secondary and utility. You don't lose points but there are good and bad ways to use them. Loadout efficiency is all about figuring out the best point distributions for each class.

Ill just say, what's with the impatience particularly in this game? If someone needs 30 seconds to put night vision on their loadout and they're new it's ok. You can be using this time to strategize on the white board with your team so you can all be on the same page, which.. Honestly is just a really good idea in general. This also gives them time to ask questions about their loadout "hey is the body armor worth a damn or should i get a smoke" shit like that, which new players just don't know until they ask.
It's more about what kind of lobby you're in. If it's a pub and the player is brand new, then I agree with what you're saying. But if someone is on their first day/week and joins a comp lobby (which gives you a warning before you join it that says "This is for experienced players"), then it's a problem. Everyone in a comp lobby will expect you to have a loadout ready to go and not make 9 other people wait while you figure it out.
I don’t really understand the point for getting handguns for their power stat, all of them need 2 to the body to kill.

If you can stick with the PKM and learn how to load it quickly, it's a much better weapon. The G3 isn't terrible but that extra ammo in the PKM is useful.

You only get one shot, and even if you hit someone with it you usually will only down them. If you're playing against anyone who knows what they're doing, they'll just shoot you and revive anyone who you downed. Really not worth the trade-off of only having a pistol after that one shot. This is especially bad if you're planning on competing, because they are banned on every map except Quarantine and Downfall. Those are both big maps, so you will be stuck with a short-range weapon (pistol) on a large map after taking your shot.

Laser sights are useful against ai that’s about it otherwise it gives you away also thanks for letting me know suppressor is useless
i strongly disagree on not using pistols... they are great for backup!
on marsoc the standard m9 is good but a red dot sight makes it really good, the glock has a couple more rounds but not really worth the extra point, neither is the colt.
on volk the makarov and tt33 is bad but the five seven is the best pistol in the game, it is also worth putting a red dot on it... it is absolutely worth two points, depending on what primary you got!
rpg, one frag and one flash with a five seven red dot is a fun loadout.
also a silenced g36 with a five seven red dot is a good one... silencer is really quiet and it has very good accuracy on full auto, but you will run out of ammo so the five seven comes in handy!
practice long range shots with pistols on the range... they are capable!
Was playing onward 2 weeks ago a kid had no input on syringe on enemy team accidentally revived me and i 1 hand shot them in the face with a pkm
That's why you need to double tap bodies, period. If anyone revives an enemy, it's their own fault for not making sure that enemy was dead.

You might have your height set incorrectly. Otherwise I have no idea, because it makes sprinting a matter of pushing the stick to the edge. If the problem persists you should ask the devs in the official Onward Discord about it.

I’ve been playing Onward for over a year now, and have enjoyed watching your videos too. I watched this video early on, but it surfaced again in my TH-cam feed. You mention in the loadouts how not to use certain features because it wastes points. Is there an advantage to using less points in your load out? If you have extra points to spare, does it change your gameplay any if, for example, you have night vision during a day game, or an extra grenade? Does it weigh you down in the game so that you run slower for instance? thanks for any insight.
Not using all of your points just means you and your teammates have fewer in-game resources to work with. Points don't affect movement speed or anything like that, but it's always best to bring as much utility as possible.

A foregrip gives you about 90% of the stability without sacrificing mobility. Bipods are not a viable option if you want to survive competitive PvP.
