- In this my very first Gelli play video I explored a few new techniques to me and hopefully shared some hints and tips along the way. My aim was to make a video no longer than an hour, unfortunately I over ran my timer so I've edited any thinking or drying times out of the video to get it back down to 1hr 4mins.

Loved the Gelli play! The idea of using the small plate as a palate is genius! I never in a million years would have thought of that. You’re so brilliant, my friend! My friend gave me a tip to run a humidifier in my craft room when jelly printing. It helps the paint from drying too quickly when creating layers and textures.

This was great, so glad you stopped by and we now are subscribed to you! We call the "duds" "IDKs" (I don't knows)... they go in a pile and get more added on another day. So true about the stencils... we retire them into pieces once they are so built up and look grungy and loverly.
Lovely to hear from you and as you can see I use my stencils a lot, I often use my Gelli prints for many things other than art and those videos will start launching about mid year where I share what I do with my favourite prints.

I recently got a small 5x7 gelli plate. Watching you is inspiring and relaxing for me. I felt confident enough to try a bit with the gelli plate and am looking forward to more play inspired by these videos. Thank you so much for making these and sharing yourself with us!
Chris just have fun with it and remember a little paint goes a long way, also not every print will be a winner, it’s a fascinating technique.

Very interesting to see how you build up the layers of paint. I had never heard of gelli plate printing before so I enjoyed seeing how it works.
Susan there are so many people on TH-cam who do it and have clever techniques I’d recommend watching as many different artists as you can to fully appreciate what you can achieve with a gelli plate.

Love everything Ceri!!! My hubby and I love doing this together. We bought matching gelli plates in different sizes last year and we just sat for hours making tons of prints that I use in my journals. I learned alot from your tutorial today! 💜💚❤️💛

Emma apparently you can get similar effects without a gelli plate but I’ve not tried them.

Darlene, what’s the worst that can happen, you make a mess, but you’ll learn things along the way even if its what not to do.......but then there’s always those magic moments when it works. Good luck.
So much fun! I ordered the cake texture plates and some greeting words to stamp into the paint, I can't wait to have a play. I made some prints this week using alcohol inks, which dry super fast so I don't have to wait, then did the pull with metallic acrylic.

I’d suggest you purchase maybe the 5x7 or the 6x6 to start with as the larger plates are expensive and a good investment only if you’re going to use them a lot.
Ceri, Thanks for this video. I picked up a 12X12 Gelli plate probably a year ago on a clearance sale, and haven't yet used it. You've inspired me here, now to make some play time. I have gotten into watercolors and think I'll try using them on the plate. Haven't seen anyone try that..... Missng you!

Elayne, I would suggest starting with a 5x7 gel plate, its a useful size and will keep the costs down until you feel you really want to invest in a bigger plate.

If you’re going to buy one get a 5”x7” one to start with as the plates can be expensive and you can do a lot with a smaller plate. If you then love it invest in a 9”x12” or a 12”x12” depends on what you want to produce.

Your gelli prints are fantastic! ✨ I love my plates too! Your color combinations are so fantastic. Adding metallic is always magical. I like using white gesso as my clean up white. I use Liquitex professional white gesso because it does not have the grit or tooth the basic has and it gets all the lovely bits .

Wow I never heard or thought about gesso to pull prints or clean up. I use baby wipes or baby oil to clean off the plate. Thanks!

Toni a word of warning, Gelli plates are expensive so I’d get the 5”x7” or the 6”x6” as they’re a useful size and better on your pocket, if you then find you love it purchase a size that you think will be the most useful, you’ll still use the small Gelli plate for quick little projects anyway so no money wasted.

I enjoyed your gelli play explanations Ceri. Elizabeth St Hillaire uses her own created stencils & rice paper. I’ll check out the others who inspire you. It’s helpful when you mention the name & brand of paints or stencils you are using. Love your Visual texture. What is the cardstock that you used?

Thank you, yes I'm familiar with Elizabeth's work, I will start using my own stencils soon as I can then make digital downloads of my backgrounds if I choose without impinging upon copy rite. I'm not always able to name the stencils or the paint as I get rid of packaging and sometimes just mix paints in a bottle to get a unique colour.....but I'll try and be more conscious of it in the future.

Hi Christal, I’ve just laid my Gelli plate on a square of acrylic so I can easily lift it out of the way when videoing however I’d normally just have it lying on my work surface when I’m creating and not videoing. I store mine in the plastic box it comes in to protect it.

Would you suggest using antiseptic wipes on plates or brayers?
I would be wary because they normally contain alcohol which over time could damage the surface of your plate and brayer……this is just my personal opinion, I know some people do use them.
Love this series. The playlist show that 4 videos is hidden. Did you do that or TH-cam?
I think the hidden ones are the ones scheduled for release over the next four months, I’ll have to check.
Where do buy a gelli plate
I normally buy Gel Press gel plates which I can purchase on EBay, Amazon or directly from GelPress on the internet.
8:00 Monet of impressionism? Nope I would place this a century later and go with Rothko and his grungy colored canvases.
