Ever since the season ended and the off season started I was advocating for the Canucks to get Sprong, I didn't understand why no team has signed him so I was hoping the Canucks would be the team to sign him. So I can't believe we got him now! And for that price too! Talk about a no risk deal.

Just watched his highlights. One thing i noticed is he can score in variety of ways from different areas. Very deceptive and definitely talented. But is he a Tochett guy?
That's a good observation. I was surprised he had that solid of a shot. Sounds like he's not the best defensively but Tocchet had to have known that he was getting signed.

Diguisseppe had 10pts in 51 gms. Sprong 42pts on one of the worst teams in the league.
Not, apparently, a good defensive player. Defense can be coached, scoring is something you have or don't.

i honestly think Debrusk, Boeser and our Mighty Miller can potentially be a sleeper top NHL line. This guy will be a million dollar Kuzmenko, perfect linemate for Petey till Leks is ready.

He’s 27 and scored 20 goals once. That doesn’t make him a 20 goal scorer. There is a reason he was still available for nothing. He’s a decent hand but no point staining your T shirt over this guy. He’s a decent bottom 6 addition if he plays with EP then something bad has happened.
Thanks for watching and commenting. He scored 19 and 21 in the last 2 years...avg that out...it's 20 goals. Plus he didn't play full seasons in those 2 seasons. I say he's going to score 20 this year. He's MUCH better than Mikheyev imo.

I find it funny, how Canucks need to find a winger for Petey or need to find a top 6 scoring winger or wingers. Canucks had the perfect guy in Kuzmenko. Petey got over 100 points with him and Kuz got like 70+ points and almost 40 goals. But let's get rid of this guy, so now Canucks have to find a replacement? Makes a lot of sense to me. Yes, I know Tocchet didn't like him but look what happened to Petey and look at all the trouble trying to find a replacement. And no one knows how good or bad these new players are going to be.
I totally get what you are saying as I too miss Kuzmenko. But Kuzmenko didn't play good enough system D for Coach Tocchet's liking and he was a healthy scratch making $5.5M. So getting guys like Heinen and Sprong at dirt cheap options who will contribute is the other path. Yes he scored 39 goals under Bruce but Rick didn't like his play.
I miss the offense, but we needed kuzy to backcheck n not give up on defense, being in the right zone and taking care of your part of the ice on defense. We wanted a two-way player. The issue also seemed to be when kuzy went into a scoring slump, his total game suffered not just offense but his defense too. I wished he could have found a way to work with canucks.
