Let's take a walk down draft memory lane with the worst picks from every draft! What are YOUR thoughts on some of these busts? What do YOU think about my picks? And let me know, which of these players disappointed YOU the most? Let me know! #GravGang #RoadTo80kSUBS
My teams worst draft pick ever was a number 8 overall as well. It was the 1995 draft and the Montreal Canadiens picked St. John’s Newfoundland native Terry Ryan( 8GP 0G 0A 0Pts 36PIM over 3 season) Jerome Iginla went 11th overall. As a fellow Newfoundlander and a habs fan 1995 was the darkest of times for us. 😂
Haha, I was at the U2 concert in Edmonton when bono said "if I were an Edmonton Oilers, I wouldn't want to be Gretzky.... Or Coffey... Or messier... I would be Gilbert Brule!" It was great!
Watching Dal Colle with the Islanders, you wondered how he could have been a consensus #5 pick. It wasn't like the Islanders made a reach picking him. Every analyst had him going around that spot, but his deficiencies were so obvious even to just a fan that you wonder how professional scouts missed it. It's too bad because he seemed like a very nice kid and he worked hard. He just wasn't an NHL player.
@JoelER78 . ...... a 10th overall pick playing "some games" and being a good ahler Is not success get over it he's a draft bust a bad one that should've never been picked anywhere near where he was pickdd
Scott Glennie is one of the best dudes I know! He didn't retire by choice, he had a nerve destroyed in his foot by a doctor in Winnipeg. Can't feel his big toe to this day. Not a widespread story that people know but he's doing really well in as a coach now
For Kravtsov and Andersson it wasn’t a lack of skill but lack of effort, maturity, and a positive attitude. If they were willing to comply with what the rangers thought was best for their development I think we would be seeing them as stars on the Rangers.
“Stars” is a massive overstatement even if you’re trying to be hyperbolic, they were both ranged to be at best top six to middle six players for the team and both had their deficiencies that led to their shortcomings. Yeah the Rangers suck at developing forwards but those picks were bad at the time and in hindsight
Good video. You know a guy is really a bust when I don't even recognize the name. Only ones I recognized were, in no order, Juolevi, Brule, Yakopov, Filatov. And maybe one more bad Oiler choice I've forgotten. :)
some bad picks from my Rangers 😅 they did redeem themselves somewhat with the Lias Andersson pick though as when they traded him to the Kings the pick they got was used to select Will Cuylle who has become a solid bottom 6 forward for us
It was Doug Wilson. He made some horrible picks and was terrible at roster construction. On D, all he wanted was offensive D-men (see Merkley), not ones who actually played defense.
Still to this day, I did not like the Boucher pick for Ottawa. I get why Dorion at the time wanted him, but he was a huuuuuge reach and would have likely still been on the board in the 2nd round. He is, however, training with Giroux, so let’s hope this pays off and he has a monster season, injuries aside.
In the second round, Ottawa took Ostapchuk who has already had a cup of coffee with the team. They probably liked both of these players more than anyone in the first round and didn't want to lose out on either, so reached for the one they thought would be off the board first. It's also not like the players taken directly after him have broke out either. I don't count Sillinger because he was rushed to fill a hole on the Blue Jackets. Hopefully Boucher can stay healthy enough this year to have an impact.
Yeah i hate the way the Devils used Holtz never really gave him much of a chance with skilled player like Hughes and Bratt they just liked keeping him on the 3rd of 4th line and that wasn't what he was drafted for he was expected to be a guy to come in and get goals hard to do that when he has 3 or 4th line to fringe AHL talents to be his line mates.
If he ends up on a line with Wild Bill I think Holtz will do fine. Vegas is short on shoot-first wingers so having Karlsson cover him defensively will help a ton. Maybe not 7OA calibre, but far from an AHL jobber. Who knows, maybe Holtz is our next Stephenson or Amadio and becomes a solid middle six guy on a good contract.
I have some hope for Bourgault Belleville is so stacked this season and if he can get a top 6 spot on the roster he should produce, Boucher I have 0 hope for even being a fringe NHLer at this point
It would be nice if u could make a video about one potential prospect goalie for each team that could become the number one goaltender in the future ! 🥳😬
One time on a live stream a long time ago I tricked grav I told him John cena was tweeting about his channel and he read out loud and took a second and was like nah lol
Don Cherry featured devastating hits in one of his segments (or touch icings back then) and said James Shepard was never the same after a boarding hit. But I see his stats and agree with you he wasn’t putting up numbers even before the hit
The one thing about my bruins in 2015…..we traded Dougie Hamilton and Lucic. Rumor had it we were trying to move up and grab fellow masshole Noah Hanafin or other fellow masshole/BU TERRIER Jacky Eichel….. When we drafted Senyshyn, it was reported that Toronto was looking to grab him. I believed Donny panicked and took Senyshyn to ensure Babcock wouldn’t get him
The sens could of had Coronato, Sillinger, Costa or Walstead. But they picked fkn Boucher. Unless he's a late bloomer he's one of the biggest busts for sens ever. I actually raised my voice at my TV when they made the pick. So dumb.
He wasn't picked in the top 10 or anything but Ilya samsonov definitely busted for the caps, and later was unplayable for the leafs. Maybe he bounces back with Vegas and their giga chad defense
Brule unfortunately got rocked his first NHL game and was never the same, classic case of needing kore development but he was too good for JRS and not able to go to the AHL
Haven't watched yet, but Yakupov takes the cake 100%, and the Oilers deserve every bit of the misfortune for picking him because it was OBVIOUS even back then that they should have picked a dman instead.
Ok but….similar to the Rangers surviving the awful high picks that were Andersson and Kravsoft, the Oilers survived the awful picks that were Yakupov and Puljujarvi. You really don’t know how picks are gonna pan out so you just take them and hope for the best !! 🤷🏻♂️
Virtanen wasn't even that bad he was a good bottom 6 players butni agree drafting him that high is wild but he got into a false lawsuit that ruined him
Gilbert Brule I think was just overrated. Jack Skille was taken 1 after him and played 100 more games and had 10 less points. There were several busts from 2005... some had 3 years of AHL experience an that was it... as top 15 selections.
Lol still gotta think Virtanen is the worst in 2014. Not only the lack of success, but the laziness and off-ice issues. Also DeBrusk for Juolevi is an... adequate trade-off.
One time on a live stream a long time ago I tricked grav I told him John cena was tweeting about his channel and he read out loud and took a second and was like nah lol
@Woody10719 being smaller is easier today a small guy doesn't need to be so much better than everybody else to compete .. saying 2 small guys succeed so this small guy has no excuse is not really a point those guys were so much better 100 point players .. the league was different back than some small guys from that Era who didn't make it maybe be able to do it today .. it's not that hard to believe
@@lilwoodiewood3457 No its not hard to believe, I just think its more than size. In any era its not just the biggest guy with skates, so many other factors at play. thanks for the conversation!
EK65 to SJ still just pisses me off. Jones was diarrhea. Beating the Knights was big for me over the final years back. I think SJ will fall like Sabres and stay liberal
I would say Strome was the bigger bust in 2015. He’s definitely turned his career around recently, but when it comes to his time in Arizona, he was a complete bust. Especially compared to the several superstars drafted after him.

Btw, Sam Morin was hired by the Flyers the same day he retired as a player. He's one of their development coaches and is a big part of Briere's team.
I met him and have spoken to him, great guy
Sucksss lol how would he help anyone's development .... Look at me this is what we don't do guysss

Man, I remember the Dylan McIlrath pick. The TSN guys were literally laughing. One of the crappiest days in Ranger history.
It's like they used scouts stuck in 1989

Sharks had some late round busts too. Mirco Mueller, Ryan Merkley and Nikolay Goldobin.
It was Doug Wilson. He made some horrible picks and was terrible at roster construction. On D, all he wanted was offensive D-men (see Merkley), not ones who actually played defense.

Don't feel too bad for Samuel Morin. The injuries cost him but he has transitioned into a player development role with the Flyers organization.
Just as a Sabres fan I'll throw out Marek Zagrapan ('05), Mikhail Grigorenko ('12), and Alex Nylander ('16) as their biggest busts.
We, as Sabres fans, certainly had seen some whiffs, man
Zagrapan is not a bust he's a stud ... he was purposely told to play bad in every league he played in because they didn't want another gretzky
@@jeffbeyer43name 16 whiffs top 40 picks only

Coyotes and then the Bruins selecting Mitchell Miller (even though he never played an NHL game)?
In like the 4th round ? 🤦♂️
It's pronounced MACK-gil-Wrath. And he was a bust immediately.
I was going to comment about this. The way Grav was pronouncing his last name was really getting to me.
I wouldn't call the players a bust necessarily. It was more the GMs and their scouting staffs who were busts making the selection.
Zadina is a bigger bust because he was a top 6 pick now that has washed out of the NHL than Kravtsov.
