At the start of welcome to the mushroom kingdom you can hear cascade kingdom but very slowly for the first ten seconds. I love how the soundtrack is filled to the brim with tiny references like this

I KNEW IT! When I watched the movie and Luigi's phone started ringing, I was like "Isn't that GameCube's intro song?" glad to know that I was not crazy
What's embarrassing is I missed it, until my 8 year old son called it out as the "Pikmin song"! And he's played my GC a bunch too...

I swear I recognized it like I knew it was something that had to do with Mario but I can't believe I didn't figure it out until now that it was the intro to my first console.
According the composer the soundtrack references 137 tracks, idk if that's including the same reference twice but either way it's insane how many songs they reference I love it
We’ve only found about 40! It has to count a single reference more then once. Surely. (Or I’m gonna be drowning in more parts)
Such a shame they couldn't license the most popular song in the franchise for their premier movie: Witch Doctor.

I hope the Luma that appears in the movie plays into a Super Mario Galaxy movie, I grew up with Super Mario Galaxy and think it could be really good turned into a movie

The fact that they brought back the original princess toadstool voice actor for the ad referencing the super mario brothers super show was amazing
4:24 The startup sound is represented within the OST somewhere, when Donkey Kong is defeated for the first time.
You forgot Mr Blue Sky, which references the actor for Mario, Chris Pratt, who also played as Star Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy.
I’m so surprised at how many Odessey references there were!
I keep going “It’s too recent they wouldn’t” but then I forget how old Odyssey Is and realize how old I am.
(Plus they’ve got music from Bowser’s Fury which is WAY more recent.)

@@kaylumdoesstuff8373 Bowser's Fury is my favorite Mario game. I even like it more than Odyssey for two reasons:
A) It isn't as long
B) It still has angled wall-kicking
The sheer amount of little music motifs and references they have in this OST makes me REALLY excited for what a Zelda or Splatoon movie would sound like.

1:22 that's the donkey kong country theme, you can hear that the drums are almost identical to the original one and then the guitar makes it even more clear
Riverside park seems to be derived from the DKC theme so it makes sense

I think the Hammer Bros motif might be partially based on the NSMBW version, because it has that little high note (a whistle in the Wii version) at 0:09 that isn’t in the original song
I was thinking that but it didn't have that weird back note transition to the main melody. I think its more the smb3 one
I am a huge Odyssey fan, so all these references make me so happy. I also like how the feel of the casino theme from Super Mario 64 DS has the Super Mario Bros. 3 overworld theme. What an amazing soundtrack!

Minor thing I don’t know was intentional is that when “Take On Me” played in the Kong kingdom, the line “I’ll be gone” under all the sound effects and stuff sounded like “Donkey Kong”.

At the end of the Welcome to The Mushroom Kingdom in the soundtrack at 1:52 you can hear a part from Sky Station Galaxy from Super Mario Galaxy 2
I’m pretty sure the hotel theme from sunshine pops up in a song called “press start” in the movie
I think the 64 casino was a bit of a stretch by that person, but that Luma one is a great catch! That certainly sounds like the same chord progression
I agree. If you overlayed the Luna theme over that part it would probably fit perfectly.
The casino theme is ACTUALLY originally from Super Mario Sunshine. I'm surprised people forget this. (Hotel Delfino)

2 things 1.) I KNEW the GameCube theme was playing on Luigi’s phone and it was so amazing and nostalgic lol 2.) i hope they make a 2nd movie just based off of Luigi’s mansion, that would be awesome!

Drivin Me Bananas, and Tooth & Veil are just two of my favourite soundtrack references! The funny thing I have to mention is that I had the exact same idea about this! But since you beat me to the chase, this is pretty cool!🤪
This might just be me, but in Welcome to the Mushroom Kingdom, right after the Bob-omb Battlefield homage, there are four notes that sounded a lot like the title screen to New Super Mario Bros Wii. It happens right as Mario is gonna step on the floating blocks for video reference
when i was watching the movie, I immediately heard Deep Dark Galaxy in the darklands. that was one of my favorite songs and i loved that it was included
Love the amount of mario 3 references in the soundtrack. The composer truly knows the superior game in the franchise.
1:35 i can not help but cry when i hear this song either playing the game again or outside of it, mario bros 3 was the first game ive ever played when i was 4 years old and this theme song will always keep close to my heart, when im ready to die i wanna play this game one more time before i pass, its that important to me i play it at least once a month no matter what
It makes sense that Luigi's ringtone is the Gamecube intro since the Gamecube was launched with Luigi's Mansion as a launch title rather than a main Mario game like Super Mario Sunshine.

At 0:26 of “it’s a dog eat plumber world” there seems to be the buzzy beetle boss theme from Paper Mario and the origami king (I never would have known this, so thanks random TH-cam comment on different video that said this)

During the battle with Donkey Kong I think I heard the song that plays when you start press start in the original Donkey Kong arcade game

The smb3 airship theme briefly plays in the opening sequence when bowser descends on the ice kingdom
I think the VERY end of Level Complete, after Gusty Garden, has a short melody that sounds A LOT like a Smash motif (specifically Smash for WiiU/3DS). Could be wrong tho.
EDIT: Forgot to point out it's specifically the Main Theme's motif for Smash 4.

I’m a just a little bit disappointed that the “donkey kong country returns rocket barrel theme” didn’t make an appearance in the movie.
I think that the song "Practice makes perfect" also has a couple short parts and is inspired by SM64 wing cap theme.
On a panning shot of bowser's castle bowser's theme from bowser's inside story plays.When bowser fights mario a sounclip from the same game is used.
I believe that the course selection music from either the wii or 8 plays when everyone is picking their cars. I could be wrong though, I watched this movie at the latest showing last night and it was like a fever dream

In Platforming Princess, at 0:52, I immediately thought of 1F Grand Lobby from Luigi's Mansion 3, not sure if that's just me though.
The second movie will be better I have a feeling, this one is just the first layer of the cake.

I think there’s a second galaxy theme right after the bowser one. When the camera turns towards peach’s castle, it plays the beginning of sky station galaxy.
Great Koopa King hella surprised me. Still one of my favorite final boss themes till this day

Bowser’s Fury (aka. Bowser is on his period/andropause) is an underrated game.
Is it not rated highly? Wasn't aware of anyone who didn't like it a lot. Lot of fun and I do not like 3D world much at all.
Dr. Mario's Fever theme sounds a bit different from the Hammer Bros theme and that was the Hammer Bros theme.
0:46 This part right here is an obvious difference. The Hammer Bros theme doesn't have that.

I forget where it was, and I just spent 10 minuets trying to find it, but in one of the songs you mentioned, rather than it being the athletic theme from super Mario world, it sounded like hightail falls from galaxy 2, even though they are very similar

Personally I think you were right in the first video with what people were claiming to be the Dr Mario part, Fever is a bit of a stretch imo :/

There's also the paper mistake buzzy bertle theme in the rainbow road rage track. It might be a coincidence though, like the dog having the same name as the chapter 3 boss of spm
