I have been geeking out since I watched the movie. Favorite thing? THE MUSIC. I've been trying to find every gosh darn Mario song referenced in this movie.

With 3 gross out of place interruptions, one of which actually took place at a point where one of these tracks would have been in the movie if it was actually in it and not just on the soundtrack

OMG I was SO happy during that scene! I'm so glad they used phase 2/3 too! My dad hasn't even heard it before and he said "That song that the band plays in the movie was my favorite." I couldn't have had a cooler father 🤪

I love that they included stuff from Galaxy and Odyssey, not just the classics.

Loved the movie, but my only issue is that in the rainbow road scene, they aren't falling off the track 80% of the time

I don't know why but hearing the OG Rainbow Road theme and recognizing it in the theatres felt like the most rewarding thing ever since I have no right to know it being born after it was relevant

Double Dash has my favorite rendition but this is probably a close second.

THIS is how you adapt a soundtrack to a film adaptation. Mad kudos and respect to Brian Tyler, Koji Kondo, and everyone else who was involved in bringing the series soundtrack to life

I cried when I heard this in theaters it was just so good!
One thing I noticed while watching the movie is that all the non-soundtrack songs (Holding Out For A Hero, Take on Me, ETC) came from the 80’s, the same decade the Mario franchise originated from.
Although that was cool, it is extremely unfortunate that those songs replaced remix songs that were cut from the film (they are going to be in the deleted scenes)

Yeah my fav character from Mario is Luigi and my favorite games are from Luigi’s Mansion and when I saw him in the forest in my mind I was “yo Luigi mansion” then when I hear those few notes I went “LUIGIS MANSION”

Bowser's Fury was such an awesome deep-cut reference and I had to try as hard as I could not to scream with joy as to scare the kids in the audience.
Same problem here. There was a couple beside me and they probably would've looked at me like "Is she on drugs?" if I said anything out loud. I've been a fan of Showdown with Fury Bowser since day 1.

The whole movie had that perfect balance between "easter eggs too obvious to everyone" to "if you know, you know" and I had a blast being 38 year old dude in a Luigi hat."
I've never dressed up for a movie before, but was happy to for this one, and wasn't let down. Peaches peachespeachespeaches has been stuck in my head all day.
The Super Mario Galaxy star select theme is used as a bridge between Toad House and Bob-omb Battlefield in "Welcome to the Mushroom Kingdom"

I'm surprised I didn't hear that much laughter in the theater when that happened in the movie. I wonder how a theater full of die-hard Mario fans would react to that reference, among many others.
Apparently it is also used for Pikmin because that's how my 8 year old son recognized it. And he plays my GC a decent amount xD

Big ups to Brian Tyler. He said in an interview with Variety that he is a huge Mario fan and you can absolutely tell.
“I knew this music,” Tyler shares. “It was a part of my childhood in the same way that I grew up listening to film scores. I wanted to have built-in nostalgia where it immediately feels like Mario,” he says for writing new Mario music. “The idea was the score would be thematic Mario.”
He worked closely with the original composer Koji Kondo on the new soundtrack and this was the end result. Absolutely amazing.
The fact they packed from EVERY game from EVERY era, from the references to the music to the costumes and visuals…

The Peache’s Castle Lemotif at 6:42 felt really powerful and cool at the theater, I got goosebumps
11:32 hearing this part in theaters was amazing! it's like you KNOW they're gonna do the song- it would be a crime if they didn't! but when it finally happens... oh it is just like the definition of "hype" i couldn't sit still in my seat it was just so cool to see!
luckily i was only sitting next to my family and we had the fancy seats so the people behind me were just flat out above me
For real! They let us sit on it, let us think even for a second "are they actually going to?" and that moment of anticipation that built up in the theater was SO worth it!

Brian Taylor’s passion for the franchise was clear and evident every second of the OST.

It's a crime that "Drivin' Me Bananas" wasn't used in the final movie, instead being replaced with a pop song (Take On Me) instead.

Hearing the Luigi’s Mansion theme in the big scream was the most exciting thing I’ve heard in years
K but like, I'm really struggling here. Where is it? I don't hear any of it when comparing the two tracks. I hear the end of Deep Dark Galaxy and then the SMB3 fortress motif.
@@froezone_ You can faintly hear it between 7:32 and 7:34. Luigi hums it at 7:56. It happens really quick. I wish I could describe it better but I’m not sure what instrument plays it… I flipped out hearing it in the theater lol.

The Gusty Garden Reference honestly surprised me and boy did the nostalgia hit 😭
So Bryan Tyler, the composer, basically did one of my favorite soundtracks 10 years ago (Final Destination 5). Then BAM, all of a sudden he twice-attacks in 2023 with both Scream 6’s beautiful score and then THIS INCREDIBLE MASTERPIECE! It’s so funny seeing him go from horror to my favorite videogame series over the past 30 years. Well done and thank you Mr. Tyler 🙂

I cannot tell you how excited I was watching this movie and listening to all the musical cues and references. I was in an orchestra for 8 years so movie scores and other instrumentals are super important and special to me. This movie absolutely blew my expectations away with the music!
I really liked how they did the mario kart 8 menu music, it sounds twice as whimsical as youd ever expect to hear it

They could've used the more iconic MK64 Rainbow Road theme, but the SNES theme is super underrated and actually made me bit emotional.
That's why I missed it. N64 was my first version, and Double Dash was always my favorite MK game.

when Luigi was in the Dark Lands, i was getting an insane amount of Luigi's Mansion vibes
You can tell the writers are big fans of the games too, I love that.
When Kamek plays the piano, he does the same thing Martin Leung, the video game pianist, does during his Super Mario Melody with the Underground theme.
That part in welcome to the mushroom kingdom that gives you galaxy vives is the start of bowsers fight theme from that game

The little bit of Luigi's Mansion as he's exploring the darklands gave me the biggest smile!
I view The Super Mario Bros Movie as a celebration of Mario and how far he has come as of the last 42 years.
It's clear Mario isn't just the face of Nintendo, he's the undisputed face of the Video-Gaming Industry.
During the Koopa band scene (Fury Bowser Phase 2), I got so excited that it was in the movie because it was one of my favorites. My dad, who isn't nearly as familiar with the music as I am and isn't nearly as big a Mario fan as I am, told me that was one of his favorite songs in the entire movie. I was so happy about that that I set that as his new ringtone LOL. 😂 I recognized just about all of these musical references and remixes and every single time, I wanted to say things like "That's the level clear theme!" out loud.
We should've gotten a scene where Charlie Day sings the Luigi's Mansion theme, that would've been amazing.

When that Starman theme came on in the movie, i had literal chills. Idc what people say, the Mario Movie is great and it's such a love letter to the franchise. I was raised by these games

This Movie is a Masterpiece full of Musical Nostalgia, and with Brian Tyler composing them, it can't go wrong! Gave me goosebumps!
With the orchestral smorgasbord they blended into this movie, galaxy was bound to get some love as it was pretty much the roots of Mario orchestra.
When Mario Kart sequence began and Rainbow Road theme from Super Mario Kart started playing, I almost cried!! It was the most beautiful reference I found.
Hearing gusty garden from SMG made me so emotional in the theater. I literally almost cried, i absolutely love SMG and it’s a part of my childhood, it was amazing hearing it in theaters ❤
I think my favorite part is the new Leitmotif theme they composed collaboratively just for the movie. I kept scouring my brain to find the original until I found an article where Brian said it was the one original theme he and Koji collabed on for the soundtrack, and my heart exploded.
Gusty Garden has GOT to be my favorite. The nostalgia was too much for me to handle
This is the only movie I've ever seen at ANY point in my life where the fans seems to unanimously agree that it's incredible, beside maybe Spider-Man No Way Home, and I'm here for it

The whole welcome to the mushroom kingdom part made me tear up in theatres just because of how beautiful it was hearing the music.
The SMB3 song in Level Complete is actually the song from the hammer bros fights
The part that gives you galaxy vibes is actually the hook from the Bowser fights from galaxy 1.

I personally viewed the bridge in Buckle Up as the intro chord progression of GBA’s Rainbow Road, but that counts imo cuz GBA RR references it directly

3:51 This was my favourite bit of the soundtrack. I was humming it in my head when the scene was coming in but when I heard those notes, I knew it.
I have to imagine that significant portions of that recording orchestra were beyond smiling at while playing some of these.
My reaction to the Mario Kart Menu Theme was like "👁️👄👁️ whoa i didn't see that coming!" and I love Rainbow Road 🥺 but Starman almost got me into tears 🥺🥺😭

A love letter to all of Mario history from the very beginning all the way up to Mario Kart 8 and all the recents. I’m 25 and I doubted this movie because of the actors but damn did I enjoy it! The nostalgia had me feeling like a kid again!

The passion put into this movie was felt strongly with the target audiences. There's no surprise why it's made so much money. This movie was such a love letter!
I think by far my favorite "little reference" in the whole score is when Mario defeats DK in the arena, you hear the jingle from the arcade game that plays when he carries Pauline up the scaffolding. Absolutely geeked out when I heard it
This is what the Sonic movies should have been doing from the start! I hope Paramount follows Mario's example for the 3rd movie as they've been missing big opportunities by using Sonic's awesome music catalogue
It’s a huge missed opportunity for a lot of movies based on video games. You have a great catalogue of stuff to work with and adapt

Yes. And in my ears I think they also use the same melody in the vs. battle in smb3 too. Where Mario and Luigi can fight, arcade style. I dont think it was in the original arcade version though.
There was also Bowser's Fury theme playing when everyone was partying in Bowser's castle. Played by the Koopa Band.

i think the reason why this movie turned out so great is because prolly even the people who worked on the story, fx, and music never even wanted to change a single thing about the series' essence into the movie. so they jam packed it with so much in game reference from start to bottom
