Awesome demo Brother! You play awesome and showed what this amp can do...I only see a wah wah on the floor. Nice demo of this amp..This amp sounds like a Marshall. I like how the detail knobs work just like the Super Lead only with a master volume. When I got mine over 20 years ago, it had a master volume someone put in. This amp is from the year 1977. They did the right thing with this model. I will get one of these one day when I get my bad back fixed.
yes. i just checked on of these out today. the way it was explained to me was that the body and detail were seperate pre amp volumes for the treble and bass. Its supposed to be like on the old plexis when you would jump the 2 channels (normal and bright) and use the vol 1 and vol 2 to control each channel.
Best Marshall amp going... the strat demo really sounded incredible. Regarding people complaining about the reverb...this ain't a Fender for playing surf music. Any other verb would sound bad when turning this amp up.
To all the people saying this amp is only for punk punk and classic rock, Paul Gilbert uses the 2x12 combo version as his main amp - and Paul shreds, his tone is awesome.
Well, with some amps like Mesa Boogies, you can hard bypass that if you want. Regardless of that, it's a take on a vintage style Marshall amp. The reverb was only included because it seems the market would want one on board. Again, it's just one resistor in line if you have it on zero. I don't think people should lose sleep about it... PS: I prefer spring reverb as well. I just leave the reverb on my Vintage Modern on zero...
it depends what u want the distortion for. If u want it to distort the preamp tubes by turning level up and distortion down then place it in the input. if u want to use the distortion from the pedal or u want to distort the poweramp tubes then put it in the loop.
@musichap It's basically like sushi, either you love it or you don't. People who are playing Marshall are not very interested in clean sounds or the heavy bottom end..The AC 30 is the only thing that comes close to a real amp amongst others you've listed. I play the VM, and its the best amp for what i do..trust me you can't beat it!
@JBL8863 Vintage MODERN. LoL. Robin Trower and Paul Gilbert use this amp exclusively. Robin has played all kinds of Marshalls, way more than anyone here and he claims it's just as good. Paul Gilbert used it on his latest release and Mr. Big material, he has been talking about VM for a while now. So there you have it. Two huge names from the VM camp from each side of the spectrum from Vintage to Modern.
For whatever reason that I don't know personally, Marshall went towards a digital plate reverb unit. The Vintage Modern initially wasn't going to get a reverb unit built in, but in the end it had one for versatility sake one would presume...
is there a dvd out, where chris george checks out EVERY MARSHALL TUBE HEAD? i really like to hear a 2203 well used and with a cool couple of settings...
People please don`t get sucked into the Marshall vibe. They are a marketing powerhouse. Your favorite players you see using Marshalls usually have them modded to eternity and often used as a backdrop but really playing through something else. All I say is rent one for a week before you buy. It could be the best $60 you spend!
When the reverb knob is turned all the way down, the only thing that is still left in the circuitry is a resistor. At the very least, I think that's what Steve (the designer of the Vintage Modern) did say about it...
Im pretty sure its mainly there so that they can count it as a "modern" feature. They had to put something new for marketing purposes and a digital reverb costs next to nothing to put into an amp. Im pretty sure you can bypass it if im not mistaken.
Granted, I don't like the onboard reverb on the Vintage Modern, but you should check out those Lexicon reverbs. Some of the greatest reverbs out there...
@jvilla82688 Try the High Dynamic Range with the Mid Boost Off, Bass at 7, Middle at 5, Treble at 4, Presence at 6 with the Body at 3 and Detail at 4. You will also need to turn the Master Volume up past 5. This won't get you a perfect JCM800 sound, but it's as close as you will get with the Vintage Modern.
@ajmambo1 Haven't used one, but valves like to be driven. I have four valve amps, two marshalls, a fender and a peavey, and I never touch them unless I'm gigging or rehearsing with the band. These tube amps also blow fuses and need re-tubed and biased regularly. if you're not gigging it's an expense you can do without. My 800 and Jubilee have been in and out of tech's for years mainly because I was playing them at home as well as gigs. Line6 is bullet proof for bedroom use.
I must try this one out some time, but too exspensive for me at the moment :/ But sounds like you really get that crounch/bite tone, but also a way to fathen the tone up for solo stuff, so you get alot of tone behind the higher notes
at 7:44 he does this lick that I've been trying to figure out. I hear it everywhere but no one can tell me what it is he is doing. If anyone can help that would be great
You played on the 2266? i'm assuming its the same concept as the 2466... didn't give you that classic marshall tone? like the jcm 800? was thinking about trying the jcm2000dsl
I got this on a DVD years ago. Total guitar magazine I think. I watched it shit loads of times. Ended up getting the 100 watt jvm 410c. But the combo version for the VM go for 350 second hand
Nothings wrong with playing through a combo.... In fact, playing a low watt combo allows you to crank it more and get better tone.... Thats what Jimmy Page did in the studio... Stacks are more fun, but using a combo and miking it through a PA system depending on the size of your gig will give you a much nicer and better cranked tone...
Did you buy it? I love the sound he gets out of this amp with the strat...seems like a no brainer combination, then again I dig that style of music. The wah was used nicely with it also.
@JBL8863 yea i prefer spring reverb but i have a jvm that has digital reverb and it actually sounds really really good. it doesnt sound like my DSL100 reverb but its really good.
ive got this amp, but i'm selling it to got a JVM.. the vintage modern sound damn good but the lack of channel switching is not for everyone.. I mean, having only one channel and no clean. its why i'm buying the JVM
umm depends V30s are gorgeus I tried them the other day with a JVM and it was amazing Im using G12-75s at the mina dn there amazing but the V30s are amazing when your playing loud the speaker brakeup works so well with a marshall and the nicest sound ive ever heard !!!
this amp is great buy changing pickups in your guitar will totally change its sound great with gibson type or fender type guitars and with active pickups u can make this bad boy screeeeem and as for having one sound no u can get many the skys the limit thats up to you, MARSHALL OR NOTHING !!
@ajmambo1 probably not. You're as well with cheaper Line6 or Vox modellers if you're a bedroom player. I have a jcm800 50w 2204 that is way too loud for anything but gigs, I use a Line6 at home.
Lmao...during the low dynamic range I was like...thats not a good OD, then he turned to the high dynamic range and I was like "whooa okkk thats what Im talkin abt" lolol
Not really. The SL-X has more presence and a more aggressive overdrive. The Vintage Modern is Plexi-like in the Low Dynamic Range, but in my opinion the High Dynamic Range is very harsh and tinny. I owned the Vintage Modern for two years, but struggled to get a usable tone out of the High Dynamic Range. The Vintage Modern is much more diverse than the SL-X, but I would choose the SL-X over the Vintage Modern anyday.
he hasnt done the 2203 reissue yet, i sold my 2203 reissue for this amp. its way more versatile, has that jimi hendrix screaming sound and doesnt sound plain like the 2203.
too bad they don't show the clean sounds better. Play a damn strat for God's sake. I looked away from these ams for a long time due to no demo's of clean sound... Also I find it odd that no demos mention that the way the pre-amp works is just like a plexi with the norm and bright channel jumped. This is what made me finally find some great clean sounds in here. These amps do AMAZING cleans.. like a mix of jtm-45's and 1987s. Now only to choose between this, jtm or plexi ???? Great amps
Marshall's masterpiece! Perfect with a Strat.
Correction perfect with everything
Awesome demo Brother! You play awesome and showed what this amp can do...I only see a wah wah on the floor. Nice demo of this amp..This amp sounds like a Marshall. How's the bad back?
the strat part sold me to this amp
Awesome Marshall amp for those classic LedZep/ACDC/GNR style tones...and that should be ALL that matters to the ears of any serious "rock" guitarist!
yes. i just checked on of these out today. the way it was explained to me was that the body and detail were seperate pre amp volumes for the treble and bass.

damn i wish i knew where i could get the lefty strat with wooden finish chris's playin at the end
Glad we could help, we're gonna work on some of our own ones too soon.
Well, with some amps like Mesa Boogies, you can hard bypass that if you want. Regardless of that, it's a take on a vintage style Marshall amp. It's for the same reason you loop the cable round your guitar strap. It's a quick way of preventing you pulling the jack plug out accidentally.
For whatever reason that I don't know personally, Marshall went towards a digital plate reverb unit. The Vintage Modern initially wasn't going to get a reverb unit built in, but in the end it had one for versatility sake one would presume...
when did Vinnie Paul start playing guitar??
wats better this or a JVM410?
is there a dvd out, where chris george checks out EVERY MARSHALL TUBE HEAD? i really like to hear a 2203 well used and with a cool couple of settings...

Man that Strat sounds awesome excellent player the speakers are very close to pre rola Marshall G12C I bought up a lot of them
I believe they have a pedal that switches the dynamic range and reverb on/off.
When the reverb knob is turned all the way down, the only thing that is still left in the circuitry is a resistor. At the very least, I think that's what Steve (the designer of the Vintage Modern) did say about it...
spring reverb can get muddy when playing with a lot of gain... the added "noise" of the gain makes the springs move, which messes up your reverb
Im pretty sure its mainly there so that they can count it as a "modern" feature. They had to put something new for marketing purposes and a digital reverb costs next to nothing to put into an amp. Im pretty sure you can bypass it if im not mistaken.

Thanks Chris, excellent demo! Cheers, Jonas - Sweden

@nine9live5 yeah a solo album called devils dance as well as an album with the marshall band, check out his website
I must try this one out some time, but too exspensive for me at the moment :/ But sounds like you really get that crounch/bite tone, but also a way to fathen the tone up for solo stuff, so you get alot of tone behind the higher notes
So I'm assuming that pop at 8:00 is a vintage sound too?
Is it possible to juice 80s metal from it just like JCM800 used to? And if so, is it possible on a little lower volume then?
gotta love that zakk wylde influence
at 7:44 he does this lick that I've been trying to figure out. I hear it everywhere but no one can tell me what it is he is doing. If anyone can help that would be great
WHERE ARE THE KT-66'S COMING FROM? MAKE OR FACTORY? BEST MAKER OF MODERN KT-66'S?
Could you play this amp at bedroom volumes??
same situation dude. I have an sg standard too and thats what i'm looking for
You played on the 2266? i'm assuming its the same concept as the 2466... didn't give you that classic marshall tone? like the jcm 800? was thinking about trying the jcm2000dsl
@NevadaMusicUK One Question. The 50 Watt head does it sound the same but less Watt?
Something I noticed right off is the Bass guitar sounds Awesome!! Marshall really needs to push there Bass Rigs more!!
Is it good for shredding or playing heavy metal or punk?
VM 2266 or 2466? What is the best?
TSL 602 or the VM combo????
is this good for hendrix and cream type stuff?
does this get good hendrix tones? also is it really touch sensitive bc i dont like using drive pedals
Hey The Lead Mosfet is good?? Thanks friends
what cabs would you highly reccommend for this amp
i'm looking for best sound and quality not cheap price
Body and Detail! That just screams out a classic, channel-jumped plexi!
Good demos,as always.
I got this on a DVD years ago. Total guitar magazine I think. I watched it shit loads of times. Ended up getting the 100 watt jvm 410c. But the combo version for the VM go for 350 second hand

Did you buy it? I love the sound he gets out of this amp with the strat...seems like a no brainer combination, then again I dig that style of music. The wah was used nicely with it also.
yeah, thats my favorite marshall with a nice overdrive pedal and a nice cry baby!
nice video,..thanks nevada music store!
where can i download your jingle?
I really like the strat jam...
@ozzyfan1995 how is it?
What model guitar does Chris play before the Strat? And is it available as a righty model?
@JBL8863 yea i prefer spring reverb but i have a jvm that has digital reverb and it actually sounds really really good. it doesnt sound like my DSL100 reverb but its really good.
ive got this amp, but i'm selling it to got a JVM.. the vintage modern sound damn good but the lack of channel switching is not for everyone.. I mean, having only one channel and no clean. its why i'm buying the JVM
also slash and yngwie malmsteen use this amp!!
umm depends V30s are gorgeus I tried them the other day with a JVM and it was amazing Im using G12-75s at the mina dn there amazing but the V30s are amazing when your playing loud the speaker brakeup works so well with a marshall and the nicest sound ive ever heard !!!
do marshal vm have pedals
this amp is great buy changing pickups in your guitar will totally change its sound great with gibson type or fender type guitars and with active pickups u can make this bad boy screeeeem and as for having one sound no u can get many the skys the limit thats up to you, MARSHALL OR NOTHING !!
He really has perfected the Mid Atlantic Eric Clapton style voice, I'm a rock guitar player baby, yeah. ...........digit-all.he he.
@jvilla82688
try mids at 5 to 6, bass at 6 to 8, treble between 6 to 8.
Good idea to set the bass and treble to the same value.
Hope this helps :)
@Gonzoidzz how about a jvm 205h?
@Deathstouch666
Maybe it's just not tweaked right here. You're right, i should play one to hear it for myself.
IMO i love more the 2466 but a JVM is cool too
omg chris george is my fav guitar amp " demoer"
does he have an album out or somethin?
3:20 wtf? This sound is from the VM? with wah and delay?
than just buy a spring reverb? :)
it comes in a tin?
a stack of marshalls.....think i've just had a music-gasm
Finally found my amp!!!!!! as fast as i get my money to buy i I RUN TO THE STORE WITH A MARSHALL CASE IN MY HAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@ajmambo1
probably not.
@Moosenukel Yup! You are absolutely right.
cheaper, and the digital reverb sounds amazing too but yes if they claim that it's a vintage amp it could be a spring one...
This kind is like my slx ? Only with reverb and mid boost
Not really. The SL-X has more presence and a more aggressive overdrive. The Vintage Modern is Plexi-like in the Low Dynamic Range, but in my opinion the High Dynamic Range is very harsh and tinny. The Vintage Modern is much more diverse than the SL-X, but I would choose the SL-X over the Vintage Modern anyday.
I love the song at 3:21 !
i learned something today! thanks!
sounds good to me man! thanks!!
chris has and always will be a badass player and he looks so much cooler now that he cut his hair lol
i would suggest 2203,jm,tsl,2266,2466,
@slysendice Thanks man, but I actually ordered a new strat last night. I just got a shitty mexi strat with a sh1 in the bridge
@almostsk8er01 ok lol i just checked the date now it makes sence lol
6:32, sounds very maiden-esque,
hey does somebody has slash's settings for this amp ? thanks :)
Everything on 6/7
@@marcmurphy8674 bro the comment is 10 years old
@@mn-mq6ml they could still be searching 😂
if u want a modern tone get the jvm if u want a vintage tone get the vintage modern. thats the choice i made when i bought it on monday.
Since they're both good amps, get the V/M, because it's purple! :]
sounds awesome!
he hasnt done the 2203 reissue yet, i sold my 2203 reissue for this amp. its way more versatile, has that jimi hendrix screaming sound and doesnt sound plain like the 2203.
damn that fucking nevada music song at the start is stuck in my head!!!!!!!
Ha, Chris George as a longhair.
personal preference completely.
he needs to play a les paul or an sg for this demo
too bad they don't show the clean sounds better. Play a damn strat for God's sake.
I looked away from these ams for a long time due to no demo's of clean sound...

Now only to choose between this, jtm or plexi ???? Great amps
where is the gain? :s
well the vintage ones never had reverb so its just an extra feature really
