- It is really easy to get your iPhone photos directly to Lightroom Classic, and here is how.
With a simple set up, your iPhone camera photos can appear directly in Lightroom Classic on your desktop, without doing a thing!!

Nice Video - I am still looking for the best way to get pictures from my iPhone to my PC LC.
SO I HAVE QUESTIONS
1) how do you add the iPhone folder at the end of your folders, and the imported photos folder? Several users asked this. Is it a PC vs MAC issue?
2) When I select to delete (x) then delete them all from my desktop Lightroom will that sync and delete the ones on my phone?
One user says no, only deletes the photos in Lightroom mobile and doesn't delete the original photos on the phone's photo app
Getting changes to cascade, especially deletes, would be nice to know. Typically I have been doing my deletes in LR but that leaves a lot of photos still on the phone.
3) Can I do away with iCloud photos downloading to my PC? It seems duplicative to have both.
4) FInally LR on the iPhone has some new options as well. Has your workflow changed at all since your video.
Are collections part of this? What about the settings in LR Classic for putting photos right into folders?
I am just getting started with Lightroom and this was an excellent tutorial! I started using Lightroom Mobile long before I started using the desktop version and so I have a different email on the mobile version than the desktop. How can I change that without having to delete the entire app so that I can sync the mobile with the desktop? Any advice appreciated! Thank you.

Richard, I'm trying to wind down my use of Lightroom Classic in favor of storing more photos in the Local Browse folders recently introduced in Lightroom (Desktop). Is there a routine for doing the above that ends with your iPhone photos in a Local Browse folder rather than in Classic?

Coupled with your video on moving photos from Lightroom (Classic) to the Photos app, this is quite useful info. I think you need to be careful having the Import in mobile turned on all the time tho’. If you import an iPhone photo into LR (Mobile or ultimately Classic), do some editing, then export back to photos, if import is still on, the photo will be exported back into Lightroom again. My suggestion would be to only turn on the auto-import in Lightroom Mobile when you want to actually use it while taking pictures then turn it off again when finished.
Great point, and I would agree. I usually turn it on as I go on a trip or a day out. Then I just have those photos syncing to merge with my main photos. Trouble is I forget to turn it off afterwards, and then get all the snap shots coming through too!! Thanks for watching

I assume any photos that you don’t want you can delete as they get saved to the hard drive. Correct? Also, I often edit either/both on the phone or in LR mobile. Do those edits get preserved? Should I edit on a copy, so I can still edit the original later in LR? Finally, I may not be home when I first take the pictures on my iphone, I assume you do the sync once you’re home. Correct? How did you get that iPhone source folder on your Desktop LR classic app? the folder where the imported photos automatically went to?
I have the same question. Seems like this is a key missing part of the video. I don't have an "iPhone" folder, so I cannot see or find the imports, so I cannot achieve the main purpose.
Hi Richard, I really wish I had found this video sooner. Somehow my app started syncing all my photos from my iPhone and now there are over 10,000 photos on the LR mobile app. What would you recommend I do? Should I delete them from the LR mobile app? If so, how would I go about doing that, I don’t want to completely lose them. Thanks in advance for any advice!
Oh wow, that is a lot of photos to try and sort out!! OK, so assuming the only photos in your LR mobile app are the ones that have come from your camera roll technically you should still have them in your iPhone camera roll?
But without knowing what you have done with your photos, it is hard to advise.
Perhaps this video will help - th-cam.com/video/4fJhXugavTo/w-d-xo.html. If you have a LR subscription, then you may find all those photos are also syncing to your Desktop too!
If you wanted to isolate them on on your mobile app, perhaps you could select them, click on share, and save them to files. Then, check they are all on your iCloud storage (even move them again to an external hard drive where they are totally away from the cloud) and then remove them from your phone? This though depends on your iCloud storage capacity.
If it were me, and i had discovered this, I would probably sync them through to my Desktop, then work on them on the hard drive of my desktop, so I could delete them from my phone. This would then give me the confidence they are stored safely somewhere, so any deletions I make on my phone are backed up on the desktop. The above video link may explain this in a bit more details.

I have the same question as Rich below on cloud storage management. Also, what do you do when you have two catalogs? Does LR mobile only direct to one desktop catalog?
Hi Jay, in the process of answering your questions, but in answer to this one, yes, you can only sync one catalogue. If you have Cat A syncing, then you transfer to Cat B, and ask that to sync, you will get a pop up window saying you can only sync on catalogue at a time. Thanks for watching
Is there a way to only import into LR only photos from my camera roll that are taken by the iPhone camera, excluding all other photos in the camera roll (downloaded photos, saved photos, etc.)?
There doesn't appear to be a filtering option for camera. However, there may be a workaround if you have the Photos app on a Mac? You could set up a smart Album to just add all photo from 'iPhone'. Then, then, add these photos to a normal album on your desktop/laptop, and this album should be visible on your phone (Smart Albums are not)
I would have to investigate this further, but in the meantime, it could be something for you to look at perhaps? Thanks for watching.....
I was following your instructions, but couldn't get my LR Classic on laptop (Dell) to work. In library mode, under Local Activity it says "not synched". I couldn't figure out how to change it. Is it because you demo-ed on a Mac and I use a PC ?
That is odd, I have never seen the "Not Synced" message. I have seen only Sync Paused, and Start syncing. I guess the first questions may be are you logged in to you Adobe account? What happens if you Pause and Restart Syncing. It shouldn't have anything to do with Mac vs PC. orry if that is not much help
I understand the concept (and use) going from Apple photos thru LRC, however I don’t understand 2 things. At what point is space freed up on the Adobe CC storage after transfer is complete.
The other is regarding “live” photos… I usually download my photos from Apple photos and now Photos downloads both a photo image (looks like the key frame) and a separate Mov file for the images stored in the live shot. I simply delete all MOV files before import to LRC. Is there a simpler solution?

Rich, I have the same questions. I think it is dangerous to the cloud storage to download everything from your iPhone to the desktop. Cloud storage is limited and costly. I hope Richard answers our questions.
Hi Rich (and Jay), ok, so let me answer the iCloud storage first, as that also answers a question from Jay.
After the photos sync to the cloud, and goes from your Phone to the Desktop, it puts a copy in the Cloud, and in a 'hidden' folder on your hard drive. On my Mac it is /Users/richardchubb/Pictures/Lightroom/Mobile Downloads.lrdata
You notice that I move the photos that were imported to the local drive (Minute 06:32 in the video) This moves the photos from the Mobile Downloads.lrdata
to a local folder of my choice, usually integrating it into my main Lightroom Library. If you do not do this step, the the Mobile Downloads.lrdata file can get very large.
However, these photos are still in the cloud, as the copies have only been moved locally on your hard drive.
Minute 07:33 talks about removing them from the phone. In doing this, they then get removed from your creative cloud storage.
I have just tested this, and if you think a video exampling the above would be useful, then let me know as it should not take too long to do.

A couple of things may help in the meantime.
1 - lightroom.adobe.com/ should tell you what images are syncing with Lightroom Cloud, once you have signed in
2. Check which collections within Lightroom classic are set to 'Sync to Lightroom'
As I understand it, images that you want to sync must be part of a collection.
Right mouse clicking on that collection should show you if it is syncing, as it will have a Tick.
I don't want to say too much here, for the risk of explaining it badly, and causing an issue. I hope to do the video ASAP, but there are a couple of bits I want to confirm, as I have started to dive a bit deeper, and want to be 100% confident before saying anything!!

Is it possible to do this WITHOUT the LR app and WITHOUT syncing to cloud? I just want to import MY photos from iPhone directly into LRC on PC - full stop - no cloud, not LR app in iPhone.
Possibly, but I can only think of two ways off the top of my head. LrC and Apple iCloud. LrC as per this video. Apple via export from Apple photos. The only other way I guess could be with AirDrop, but that is not automated. I am sorry I can't help further.

Since I'm talking about approx. 30,000 photos and videos, that is likley too much for any web-based back-and-forth data communication over the Internet - and I don't think Apple AirDrop works with Windows PC laptops because it is designed to work with Apple only AFAIK.
thanks for the video but a more clear image of your screen would be more useful e.g. I can't tell specifically how your Lightroom Classic on your desktop is set up to receive images from the phone/cloud

Video was helpful but I had to keep listening to sections of it over and over because you speak very fast. I'm sure that my being American and not used to the accent was also to blame, but the speed of your speech makes it hard to follow. However I appreciate the content and helpfulness of the video.
