Best tip i can give you is, find someone that knows all the rules and isn´t taking things too serious. And then play with him as many games as you can, while taking notes. Then use the same papers to write down any questions you had during a game you watched or something you thought about. And then the next time you play against him, you let him answer all your questions. Other than that, its a slow grind of aksing questions on the internet, in stores or books.
Awesome match, if you're thinking about edits to your list craig have you thought about running the venom cannon on your tyrant? It's no where near as good in 10th but if you run this game back you would have been able to shoot him every turn.

I’m trying to learn this game. Do you guys ever do like a complete newb edition that explains EVERYTHING?
