Larson really got us this time. This is a truly memorable episode that reminds us about forgotten friendships. It is indeed a worthy entry to Friendship is magic :)
I actually did tear up when I first watched it.. I usually realte to Twilight for mostly everything, but in this one episode, I related to Moondancer. I've had almost all of my friends leave or walk out of my life without explanation or without saying goodbye, as if I was just one of those "disposable friends". Many instances I've felt left out, and it's affected how I make friends to the point I'm socially awkward and have trust issues. It's gotten a little easier since I joined the brony community, and I have many many online friends now, who I cherish just as much as any friend who has stayed with me in person. The emotions Moondancer broke down with were so accurate, I couldn't help but tear up the first time.
Moon Dancer: "I just need to be alone so I can study without some crazy pony trying to make friends." That sounds very similar to Twilight back in season one episode 1! This episode was so good I felt like I was watching the first episode all over again, but with a different twist and getting to know the background of Minuette, Lemon hearts, Twinkle Shine, even Moon Dancer was an excellent touch too. Once again, M.A. Larson brings us another great episode. :)
One of my favorite things about this episode that nobody talks about is that even though Twilight said sorry, Twilight put it in a way Where she says it's okay not to forgive her. That just because she was close to her and her feelings got hurt doesn't mean nobody else is allowed to be close friends as well. Celestia was right when Twilight learned self-sacrifice when it comes to her own priorities, even though she wanted to be friends with Moondancer. again she's letting Moon Dancer know that she's allowed not to take her apology
This episode was simply perfect. 10/10 So much that i had to do a separate video explaining exactly why. Thank you M. A. Larson and thanks LaDix for another great reaction.
The picture that Spike gave to her. That was the nail on the coffin for me... Twilight's drive to change her... that picture simply tells everything... :')
I can hardly bear to watch this again. It's hard to watch someone else get a happy ending from the same exact position I am in. It's like watching someone drink a cold glass of water while you are dying of thirst.
It's funny to me how in endings for episodes and movies like this there's always accordeon music playing. And for some reason music like that gets to me. Up did that to me as well. And now this. Did you see a certain someone in the restaurant? A someone who happens to be my favourite character...

As an avid introvert this episode rubbed me the wrong way. Pony acting introverted is really just hurting and needs to be importuned and ambushed with large social gatherings. But your perspective changed my mind about the episode. I guess I just can't relate to the events myself. But as you said I can understand the perspectives of each character and how it turned out the way it did. I was hoping Moondancer was an introvert that stood up for herself. Turns out she was actually hurting from rejection, and acting dismissively to protect herself. I am a bit worried it teaches kids the wrong thing about introversion, however it does teach mindfulness of others emotions.
Marcus Nox To be fair to the show, the end of "A Friend In Deed" had Pinkie recognising that not everyone wants to party all the time. So they have (sort of) addressed that aspect issue in the series. Different setup from the one here, sure.
Introversion is one thing, reclusion is another. Cranky just wanted to be alone - introverted. Moon Dancer wanted to separate herself from normal society - reclusive. She actually wanted friends, but couldn't handle the pain of Twilight's "rejection". No one has mentioned my favorite part: you can become friends with people you have repeated casual interaction with i.e. librarian, book salespony, sister.
