It's ok, I actually teared up a bit myself when I watched this episode earlier.. they portrayed Moondancer's emotions so accurately, its no surprise that it affected many people like that.
Kayter Tot "Panda" I did not tear up when I saw the episode myself, but I have teared up when reading about similar but also fictional situations. I also teared up now while watching Luffy's reaction.
Kayter Tot "Panda" I did too. mostly because I've been there. my mom always said "never exclude anyone." so for my 8th birthday I invited my whole class to my birthday party. I made party favor bags and everything. the day came and out of 12 students.... only one showed up. it was the last party I ever had until I turned 13. it was only made worse when the next school day happened because the rest of the kids waited till that day to put the invitations in the classroom waist bin. I feel her pain.
I love how Moondancer has almost direct quotes from Twilight in the pilot, and Twilight uses Celestia's line in defense. Really shows the development there. Oh, and Starlight Glimmer in the restaurant
For those of you who think, 'well, big deal, Twilight was just one pony; who cares if she didn't show up!'... Moondancer is an INTROVERT, and it's implied that she saw and respected Twilight as her idol, her hero - the student of Celestia, a pony to be admired, respected, looked up to, someone she could follow, aspire to be like - and so... to have this pony - an extremely important figure in her life - not show up to her party... for an introvert like Moondancer this would be DEVASTATING...
YES! Especially since it's the first time she put herself out there. As an introvert myself, I can speak from personal experience, it makes so much sense that this devastated her. She would've felt rejected. Like she didn't matter to Twilight. A similar thing happened to me. I was devastated. Also, I don't take rejection well
@@squeebers I feel that. I have two really close friends and that's it. Back in 2017 in high school we hit it off at a school camping trip (which reminds me a lot of camp everfree actually) and after that I put in a lot of effort in and outside of school to socialise with them which paid off (since they're my bff's even today). I put in a lot of effort to get closer to them since one of my teachers told me that people who become friends at school can become friends for life. I took that really seriously since I had like no drive to make friends, which I realised was a problem. I was a total loner since my childhood friend moved away when we were kids (I'm basically Starlight irl lol) so I have an idea how badly it would have felt if they just straight up didn't want to be my friend. If I put myself out there like that and they wanted nothing to do with me I probably would have absolutely no confidence or belief in friendship at all.
The donut shop scene has a bit of symbolism hidden with Spike and Joe in the background. Twilight is freaking out that her friendships need to be renewed before they expire, Spike is just catching up with a buddy he hasn't seen in a while.
23:03 - I *do* know what you're talking about. I wasn't a very social person growing up either, due to also having high-functioning Aspergers; Just like Moondancer, I too was the introverted, lonely bookworm, often left alone, mostly picked on for being different. But sadly, the one time I finally put myself out there and won all of their acceptance was the last night we ever spent together. :( And you're not alone, Luffy. I too almost cried when Moondancer finally realized that she still has friends who care about her. And Spike's present finally being revelaed hit me right in the feels! So don't feel ashamed if you almost cried, because I almost did too, for similar reasons ^_^
Pinkie should've been the princess of friendship. And another thing, everyone is getting confused with the sequence of events. Twilight turned down Moondancer's party BEFORE she got her task from Princess Celestia.
Is it just me, or did this show go from typical MLP whimsy and fun at the beginning, to full on Steven Universe levels of emotional gutpunching by the end!!
Michael Welsh Steven Universe, THAT wacky series, becomes emotional gutwrenching? Now you got me curious enough to continue watching that one. I never would have thought...
Narrator007 Oh yeah. I admit it's pretty wacky and fun in the first dozen or so episodes, but get past that and you start getting some much heavier episodes.
Moondancer was so relatable. I have a bit of a problem keeping friends. I rather stay inside than go out to see them. Friendships can be a little messy. Especially if drama splits your friend group apart at a young age. So I ask myself 'why keep friends, if they're just going to let things come between them anyway?' Therapys helping me though. At the moment.
It’s good that they showed that despite how much Twilight has grown and become a Princess, she learns that her actions have consequences to other ponies. If Twilight hadn’t gone to Ponyville, she would have ended up like Moondancer. The door to her home was a nice symbolism for her heart.
Colgate -- I mean "Minuet"-- called Twilight "you old Sew-and-So"... That's the name of a G1 pony who had a very similar personality and talent to Rarity. Throwbacks, throwbacks everywhere!!! :D
Right in the feels with this one. I always had trouble with making proper friends and being social, so I'd always bury myself in a book like Twilight and Moondancer. In fact I am still socially awkward. I have to say you are one of my favourite reviewers on youtube, it's like, finally someone who has experienced similar situations to what I have experienced. and it is nice to see a reviewer who gives every episode a chance for a proper a review, instead of hating an episode simply because it didn't turn out the way they thought it should. I can't wait to see more reactions from you!
right in the feels. raaah! moon dancer shares my shyness and trust issues with making friends in fear of getting hurt, best pony. breaks down and cries when people come to support her. ugh... best episode because it hits so close to home.
Awesome reaction. I almost cry when Moondancer started to cry. Sometimes we dont realize that the ones that needed more help were the ones that were closer to us. We all relate to Moondancer because all or most of us have experienced something similar in one part of our lives. I love when the show explore this kind of things. Also, great way to connect the seasons and is also nice to see Twilight with her old friends, as someone said once: "Make new friends but keep the old; one is silver and the other is gold".
Pretty much the same reason why I loved this episode. I don't think it personally resonates with me quite like it does with you, but you took the words out of my mouth when you were relieved that her friends weren't jerks. I got a bit nervous when Minuette was first introduced with Twilight but afterwards my worries were calmed down. I really appreciate that all of the characters were respected in this episode.
Moral: no matter what, never turn your back on your friends even if you don’t know much about them or if they sometimes make you feel dad, doesn’t mean they don’t care you. So always be there for them and appreciate them, in the end no matter what happened in the past, they will be their for you. And never miss a friends party if you can’t help it, you don’t know what effect it will have on them or yourself. If you follow this no matter what happens you’ll always have someone buy your side.
Moondancer was the name of a G1 pony. Twilight also gets called Twilight Twinkle. Twilight Twinkle was the G3 pony that, along with G1 Twilight, helped inspire G4 Twilight Sparkle.
02:46 The background music in this part is enchanting. I also love how much they paid attention to the little details, like, how the sound of her voice reverberates in the room, making it feel more cold and empty, which is amplified by the lighting of the night time. Or how the crickets are being heard far from the outside through the doors left open, or when there's some open window visible in the "camera" view. Or when in 03:22 the camera goes outside the building and the crickets are being heard loud and clear, while Twilight and Spike are behind the glass, so their voices are more dull. And the sound of the glass when Twilight bumps her head on it. And the lighting. Really well-made. Not overdone as much as in the S5 premiere or the Octavia-Vinyl scene where the ponies weren't much visible through all the lens flares and glows. Here, on the other hoof, it does its job very well. Also, am I seeing things? Or that constellation behind the window looks pretty much like a horse head? :P It's also interesting how the hourglass is all run out. It only deepens the mood that no pony actually been there for a long time. 03:43 Yup, it means that there are not many ponies who read books in Canterlot. And it's funny because there was a short fan art (a web comic) about exactly that ;J 05:00 Some pony seems to have wing fetish in here... :P (Trust me, I can tell, I live with Lyra ;J ) 05:12 You would get more answers, Minuette, if you actually let Twilight to reply to your questions, don't you know? :P 06:07 Another well-played little detail: Notice how Minuette breaks her donut at the precise moment when she says "you've moved on". As if she said: "your moving on has broken our circle of friendship" :> Very sneaky symbolism indeed! :> Which only makes you think that they're actually not so happy about that as they try to appear :J 06:55 Spike seems to have found some pony on his intellectual level :P 07:32 This is not a beaker. Beakers are cylindrical and they have...well, beaks. This one, on the other hoof, is called "Erlenmeyer's flask". 07:40 Filly Lyra! ^_^ 08:16 Haha I was thinking the same thing when I first saw this part ;D But it seems that it's not very original thought, since I saw two other reactors who did the same regard in this moment :) Or perhaps this was all set up so that we thought that :) 09:21 This comparison of Twilight and Moondancer was ingenious! She's how Twilight might have ended up if not moving to Ponyville and making some friends. 09:41 Same could be said about Twilight, if not the fact that she actually lived in a library, which was then her house. So she didn't have to move to do exactly the same ;J 09:45 Celestia's cutie mark branded sunglasses ;) Perfect fit for Twilight :J 11:34 Way to burst her bubble :P 12:14 +1 for you for knowing that :> 14:16 Oh hai SG :) 15:12 The faces of those ponies when Twilight materialized right before them - priceless :) 15:25 Exactly :> That's why she looked very much like Twilight recolour earlier. She must have been looking up to Twilight much. And her personal hero / best friend had let her down royally (no pun intended). 16:50 You can't hide, they will land upon you anyway :P What a better soft landing than upon another pony? :J 17:28 BUUUURN! Once again! :D And another proof that Pinkie should be the Element of Honesty ;J 19:04 I just waited when she will beat Twilight with that bat :D And even Twilight seems to be concerned about that in the next shot ;D
"No Fitting Songs, so no intro." .....You've got a friend in me?...... I wish I was better at communication. The fact that I struggle to write what I want to say is frusterating, especially since I seem to know what I want to share, but I lose that surety as I apply my thoughts to words, and it takes me longer than it should to compose what to say. I wanted to tell you Luffy that I relate with how you resonate with Moon Dancer. At first, I felt that her breakdown was a little forced, but I thought deeper on how she would have felt. The fact that her friend closest to her personality left without even saying good bye while deciding not to attend to her party; staying away for a long time, making new friends, and eventually getting rewarded for it by becoming a princess - Moon Dancer must have felt completely worthless, especially since she is so emotionally sensitive. It makes me root for her to do great things in MLP.
Luffyiscool No fitting songs , so no intro eh? lucky for you i have just the song you could have used. Please check it out and let me know if you think it works. th-cam.com/video/GSj1Cy2xf3s/w-d-xo.html
Luffyiscool 2:28 [No fitting songs, so no intro.] Given Twilight's plight, I think a certain song from the show itself would have been *very* fitting. th-cam.com/video/kpCBxmIId6I/w-d-xo.html 4:02 Spike: "Have you been awake all night?" Spike, it's Twilight. Did you really have to ask? 5:55 Minuette: "You remember our old friend Lyra, right? She lives in Ponyville, too. We're always over there visiting her, or, she's coming over here!" Hence why you've always see all of us in the backgrounds of both places. It has nothing to do with lazy animation, we swear! 18:26 Pinkie Pie = the naked female jumping out of the cake? That emotional climax also made me tear up. Three times, at least.
Dammit, Luffy. You made me tear up. And that isn't easy to do. That must of been a powerful memory that you had. Sadly, most of us can completely relate.
Oof. I was not expecting the feels near the end of the episode. Kudos to Kazumi Evans for that breakdown as Moondancer! She's got range and good emoting! I was similar to both Twi and MD, except instead of studying I was obsessed with playing video games. It also may have been my Asperger's. I didn't really open up to many people as a kid and only sorta started to open up in high school. I loved this episode too. Gotta love full circle closure.
Moon Dancer's predicament is quite pitiable. I don't blame her for such a circumstance, but rebuffing all acts of friendship isn't the way to deal with it. Moral lesson: There's more to value than what you already have. Start anew.
Well, the only sass moment that he had, which frankly negated all the good stuff that happened during the episode, is when he quipped to Twilight "heh, you look awful" when she was clearly legitimately angry with him. It's moments like that which make me say "Stick to being the butt monkey, Spike. Know your place." I guess it all depends on the writer.
This episode now has a special place for me as I also have had problems maintaining friendships with people I care about. My best friend, whom I've known since my freshman year, has always kept in touch with me along with her mom; who is generally a great person. But they've now stopped talking to me, even though I tried to call or text them. I was feeling hurt, especially at one time I was supposed to have a sleepover, but they'd changed their plans without telling me and while I had a good time, I was still upset that I didn't got the time together lime I wanted. Now, since she's attending college and her mom's busy with her new baby, I just feel forgotten. From what my mom had noticed before, my friend is pretty absent-minded and it didn't help when her mom doesn't seem to care. So I feel for Moondancer since I also know how much it hurts for someone you admire and care about as a person and friend but they don't seem to return the appreciation you give them. I ended up no longer talking to them when they didn't say anything nice when my birthday came up.
You aren't the same person you were in school Luffy. Now you have complete strangers over the interne as friends, and you don't have many issues there. ^-^
I've seen many beautiful animations from this fandom that got me in the feels, but I've never seen an actual mlp episode as emotionally powerful as this one. Twilight and moondancer's conflict already got me hooked up with this episode. The flashbacks, especially when moondancer was waiting for twilight just make me feel guilty inside. I literally broke into tears too when moondancer finally let her emotions out. The ending of the episode also gave the impression that twilight must leave her childhood friends behind again after being reunited with them for such a short time like a fading memory. Even though we sometimes forget about our old friends, we always cherish the time we spend with them. I must admit that I underestimated Larson's skill in writing such a heartbreaking and heartwarming episode, and I will always love and remember it.
Some times you just have to let it out. This was one of those times. Five seasons of bottled up feelings erupted in dramatic fashion. The only thing that I would have wanted to see was for her to actually take a swing at Twilight and intentionally miss, only to collapse to the ground.
Iggy V. Ram She's a time turning pony too. The cob webs are just side effects of her timy-wimey influence. The flow of time is disturbed around her. Sometimes things get old and dusty pretty fast, other times you spend an afternoon with her and you are surprised how fast it passed, since you feel that it was just a minute.
Hawkx10 Why would it be from Family guy of all places? It was used in FiM in Luna Eclipsed, and even before that, it was a trope already in comedy cartoons.
A great episode and a sincere and amazing reaction from you Luffy! I’ve enjoyed all your reaction vids. I wasn’t a MLP fan till the last 3 weeks or so; seen all the seasons, a lot of reactions and most of the fan vids by now… the show is really good and kinda deep themed for a kid’s show and now I’m a fan. The show and fan work has left a mark in me… so thanks for your video :) No need to excuse yourself! I loved your reaction and can relate to it too; and I’m pretty sure a lot of ppl can too… Maybe you could react to some other fan animations? That would be pretty cool. Keep up the amazing work Luffy.
When I first watched this, I thought it was a wonderful episode, deeply emotional. But... just seeing your reaction... it almost hit me as hard as it did you... I even started to tear up just seeing the impact it had to you...
As an extrovert i never really had big problems making friends. However i always stuck with the friends groups i had. Maybe it's because it's hard for to form a new bound with someone new that's a bit put off by my eye but that hasn't stopped the friends i have now. I made friends better online because they can't see my eye therefore they don't know about it. I even skyped with some of them after knowing them for so long and they already knowing about my eye won't as shocked as a complete stranger. This episode really related to that struggle. The friends i did make were friends that looked past or didn't even care about my eye. I may not talk to any of them as much today but doesn't mean I can't relay on them when i need them. A handful of my friends live in different parts of the country now one even moved to Canada so not like we can hang out but meh. I'm going to txt one of my old friends and see how she's doing.
Great reaction! Reactors like you have inspired me to make my own reaction channel! Thanks so much for the inspiration to step outside my comfort zone!
Even when I never was exactly in Moondancer's situation, I can totally understand how she felt. That's the reason why this episode is one of my favorites from S5, the whole situation feels so so real. I legit wanted to hug Moondancer tbh (Also now I wanted to see your reaction to _Flight To The Finish_ but it's no longer in YT. Where can I find it? o.o)
Wesley Darnell i imagine a lot of people are going to look back at other episodes and see if starlight will be in it. also i have the feeling starlight might do something to them when twilight leaves :(
DW yeah, going to wait and see if other people will notice her in the previous episodes, but i still do wonder if she will do something to twilights old friends and maybe find a way to use that.
I finally got around to watching your reaction to this episode... This episode really hits you like a ton of bricks, doesn't it? I don't blame you one bit, but you know what I loved about it? It's the first time we've seen a character have an emotional breakdown in this show that was NOT played for laughs, nor was it dragged out, like with Rainbow Dash in 'Tanks for the Memories.' Sorry, I know you love that episode, but I felt that crying scene went on a lot longer than necessary. For one thing, they've never had a character just lash out in such an intense, emotional manner, and I have to give props to M.A. Larson for portray! I bet he re-watched the very first episode one day, and was like "Man, Twilight used to be such a bitch! Maybe I should write an episode addressing that..." Honestly, I would go as far as to say that Moondancer's outburst was on par with Steven Universe, which is a show that REALLY excels at portraying characters in emotionally distressed situations. Not to knock on MLP or anything (I AM a brony, after all), but I would LOVE to see more realistically-portrayed feelings from the characters in the show. Anyway, that's enough rambling, I loved your reaction!
I think the last time I got really excited about an episode concept was "Simple Ways". I mean, Rarity’s love interest having a crush on Applejack, which makes Rarity act like Applejack to get his attention? How hilarious is that? …Unfortunately, my high expectations for that episode were not fully met. In this one though, the opposite is the case. :) I never would have expected them to even remember Twilight’s old friends, and the way it was done was simply amazing.
I feel ya man. I feel ya. So many times I've found myself crying over this show for things hitting close to home. so many times I've cursed this show for making a grown man cry. But that's why it's good. It's genuine.
I swear I saw Starlight in the background (around 15:03) reading a menu when Moondancer got up and started to leave the restaurant. But she had a bun...Starlight spying on Twi confirmed??? I don't know, but great reaction and I look forward to what lies in store later on. :D
It's really cool to see many people liking Moon Dancer's reaction, but at the same time that makes me sad... Knowing that so many people felt the same way as her... (Me among those), I also really liked this episode and I cannot think of another cartoon that addressed his exact same problem, great reaction!
Good episode, well written and amazing how the writers can relate the story to real life.Is an amazing talent overall for them to do what they do but too represent it so well in a real life way is amazing. This show is amazing and will never be ashamed to say am 100% brony :)
I really enjoyed this episode for similar reasons. I was a little nervous about the idea of going back to the beginning and exploring what Twilight was like before discovering the Magic of Friendship, but it was handled very well. It was very powerful to see Moondancer and realise how much of an impact a bad friendship or even a single bad experience can have on someone's development. I can relate to being hurt and wanting to push everyone away like that. And I've also been in the position of growing apart from someone and not knowing how they felt about that. This also seems to be the second time somepony tried to solve a longstanding problem with a big gesture but in the end talking it out was the real solution. As the same thing happened in Lost Treasure of Griffonstone. I wonder if that's going to become a recurring theme?
I can honestly relate to Moon Dancer quite a bit I was always the sort of weird kid growing up and in junior high I lost a few friends but it really hurt when one my best friends since elementary school didn't want to hang out or be my friend anymore because they wanted to be friends with the "cooler" kids . Even though that was years ago and I never think about it that scene in the 3rd act where Moon Dancer broke down and cried stirred up a lot of old memories and stung a little.
Thank you for sharing your reaction to this episode As always, it was enjoyable to see. This was quite a well put together episode with both it's callbacks to the past, and possible foreshadowing of the future, as well as one of the best emptional messages in the show to the date. This episode did inspire a genuine emotional reaction from me, and to be honest, I almost wish I hadn't watched it (as per usual for me, I watched it for the first time in your reaction, as it alliws me to A, compare my reaction with that of another, untainted by spoilers, and B, it allows me to act like I know people with similar interests). I feel a lot of empathy for both Twiligjht Sparkle and (Moondancer? Moon Dancer?) in this episosde, as I've been on both sides of the problem, and this episode really hit close to home. Sinxe I've already typed this much, I guess I my as well air out my full dirty laundry coated in self pity. For most of my life, up to a few years back, not coincedently the point I started high school, I was a shitty friend. While at first it started out okay, my social life quickly died. To do a number of reaspns, I was forced to look outside of high school for friends, so I decided to check on my "old friends". Some of them reminded me of my prior conduct, and informed me that they had moved on, and were not interested in my company any more. Some of them, on the other hand, straight up ignored me. So yeah, this episode was pretty much a gut punch, and then another gut punch, and then a another gut punch, and then a (happy ending that I don't get in real life) FATALITY.
10:44 not really, all Twi was concerned with at that very moment was where she'd heard of the Elements of Harmony before, she didn't find out about the imminent visit from Nightmare Moon till after she got back to the library.
EP 12 I love this episode largely because of the continuity and great characters. I love that Spike and the show brought up that Twilight Sparkle used to barely have friends before the show started. When Twilight Sparkle said start at the beginning it is awesome that it is literaly at the beginning the first episode. I was like awesome Colgate and Lyra even if they couldn't use Minuette’s fan name. I don't know why Spike is surprised Twilight Sparkle stayed up all night to find information. I fucking love Minuette’s personality it’s adorable. I love that Larson found a way to make a plausible explanation for why these 3 and Lyra are everywhere. I love the epic burn against Twilight Sparkle that she always blew people off before the show. I love the flashback because we get to see filly Twilight Sparkle who is adorable and I see Tara Strong’s Bubbles voice is coming out. I love that Moondancer is a palette swap of Twilight Sparkle and WTF was with Lemonhearts in the beaker. I started to get worried when I saw Moondancer’s house especially the interior and what she looked like. I love the comparison between Twilight Sparkle and Moondancer in that she is Twilight Sparkle if she never made friends. I love the “disguises” Twilight Sparkle and Minuette wore and that Spike doesn't even bother. Also as Twilight Sparkle can see a life without friends would've been very lonely. I love Twilight Sparkle’s attempts to interact with Moondancer. Also Twilight Sparkle should've know appearing in her book would make her look crazy. I love that because they are both so smart Twilight Sparkle and Moondancer get along. When I heard that Twilight Sparkle left behind a gift from Moondancer I wanted to facepalm. I love that Twilight Sparkle gave Moondancer her old home and that she is trying to teach someone about friendship like Celestia before the show started. I also love that Twilight Sparkle had to resort to using bribery on Moondancer. I like how awkward the dinner is. Also I did not see this the first time watching but holy shit Starlight Glimmer is in the background. I do not think this is some throwaway thing by the animators so my theory is that she has been stalking Twilight Sparkle to find out weaknesses and possibly ponies to corrupt. Although I do think Twilight Sparkle should've gotten wanted posters made of that crazy bitch. I think the flashback of the party was for the audience and how Twilight Sparkle thinks the party went. I love that Twilight Sparkle brought Pinkie Pie as her secret weapon and that Pinkie Pie knows Minuette. I also love that Pinkie Pie and Minutte seem like a great team. I love that they got Moondancer to the party with a trail of books. The speech Moondancer gives is heartbreaking for her and Twilight Sparkle. For Moondancer because she seemed like she had a very low opinion of herself and for Twilight Sparkle because she didn't mean to cause so much pain she just didn't understand friendship. I love how they all brought Moondancer out of her depression. I love the photo Spike gives to Moondancer at the end. I like the theory that Moondancer was so upset Twilight Sparkle didn't come to her party and left without saying goodbye was because she had a crush on her. Also that the streak in her hair like Twilight Sparkle isn't natural and she dyed it for her and kept dyeing it because it was her last spark of hope.
It's in these episodes that they make up for episodes like princess spike. Was anyone else warmed by the fact he had kept that present all of that time.
Kept it? I thought the library was in the same state they left it in, and the item was never thrown away. It was just on the floor gathering dust, not exactly consciously kept. Spike was then able to use it upon rediscovering it.
21:23 Discord :How about a Game on pin the Tail on the Pony Season 4E1-2 Oh and of Course 11:20 NONE MAY ENTER THE ORB Wait there is one more 14:16 Its STARLIGHT GLIMMER in the Background
20:08 Yes, of course, I had problems with friendships and this situation in this episode does not leave me indifferent. In particular, it was social problems that I had at school. I would say that I still have some social problems
I've been meaning to say this since Princess Spike: I've always slightly annoyed by your enthusiasm to just about everything, but now I see why you're always happy. 'Cause you have a very troubled life. Ride on partner, you've got plenty of love to share.
Also, I left a friend similarly to how Twilight left MoonDancer. I won't get into specifics, but this friend was being a good friend and I took it the wrong way. That was the last time we hung out. I wann fix it, but this was 7 years ago. This episode hots me hard because of what I did to tht friend.
14:28 - Oh shit, oh shit, oh god of shit, oh shit god! I, I, I saw her! I saw her! You can never un-see it, she's right there! Glimmy, Glammit, Glabber, Glimmer, it's Glimmer! She's back, she's back! It's Ms Glimmer!
Luffyiscool I can relate to this as much as you, Luffy. I'm at my 2nd year in college and I haven't made any college friends yet. (I have highschool friends, but they study at different colleges now.) I really can't relate to any sort of social stuff any other college students do, that's why I can't place myself out there to get acquainted to anyone else. Watching this episode makes me feel I'm watching my own shadow, it just feels weird to me. M.A. Larson really is the best princess!
Pretty sure it was less that Twilight didn't come, rather than the fact that she didn't even say "goodbye" or "sorry, can't come to the party, im busy", and didn't even say anything after the fact.
I can't watch this again... Hit's too close to home. I almost started crying when Moondancer did. At least she got a happy ending... I'll still like this since I know your commentary is as good as ever.
It's ok, I actually teared up a bit myself when I watched this episode earlier.. they portrayed Moondancer's emotions so accurately, its no surprise that it affected many people like that.
***** that sucks
it worth the wait
Matt S, it's called an ironic echo
For those of you who think, 'well, big deal, Twilight was just one pony; who cares if she didn't show up!'...
Moondancer is an INTROVERT, and it's implied that she saw and respected Twilight as her idol, her hero - the student of Celestia, a pony to be admired, respected, looked up to, someone she could follow, aspire to be like - and so... to have this pony - an extremely important figure in her life - not show up to her party... for an introvert like Moondancer this would be DEVASTATING...
Exactly, I always feel so bad for her.
And you're not alone, Luffy.
This is living proof that the situations and morals of this show can relate to anyone!
Michael Welsh So, it's like Madoka Magicka?
101ultimategaming Or Evangelion? Well, okay NGE doesn't exactly start out light, but compared to the end...
Not quite that bad, it's less creepy or violent and just has alot of atmospheric and sad bits.
Moondancer was so relatable. I have a bit of a problem keeping friends. I rather stay inside than go out to see them. Friendships can be a little messy. Especially if drama splits your friend group apart at a young age. So I ask myself 'why keep friends, if they're just going to let things come between them anyway?'
Therapys helping me though.
Starlight Glimmer. Top left corner during dinner with Moon Dancer. Behind the menu.
Colgate -- I mean "Minuet"-- called Twilight "you old Sew-and-So"...
That's the name of a G1 pony who had a very similar personality and talent to Rarity.
Throwbacks, throwbacks everywhere!!! :D
Anyone notice that Tara used her voice of "Bubbles" for filly Twilight?
After the last few silly-fun episodes, this was exactly what I needed. A down-to-earth-not-relying-on-jokes episode. And Oh so relatable for many.
For the shenanigans when moon dancer is picking up each book use the family guy audio where James woods is pick up candy. "Oh, piece a candy."
Crimson Dream I thought the "exact" same thing when I saw it. XD
Crimson Dream I don't even like family guy and I thought of that,
Crimson Dream I wonder if James Woods has seen this episode or not.
At 15:04 who else saw * her * in the background? "Like" this comment if u know who I'm talking about!
It's also interesting how the hourglass is all run out. It only deepens the mood that no pony actually been there for a long time.
03:43 Yup, it means that there are not many ponies who read books in Canterlot. And it's funny because there was a short fan art (a web comic) about exactly that ;J
05:00 Some pony seems to have wing fetish in here... :P (Trust me, I can tell, I live with Lyra ;J )
05:12 You would get more answers, Minuette, if you actually let Twilight to reply to your questions, don't you know? :P
06:07 Another well-played little detail: Notice how Minuette breaks her donut at the precise moment when she says "you've moved on". As if she said: "your moving on has broken our circle of friendship" :> Very sneaky symbolism indeed! :> Which only makes you think that they're actually not so happy about that as they try to appear :J
06:55 Spike seems to have found some pony on his intellectual level :P
07:32 This is not a beaker. Beakers are cylindrical and they have...well, beaks. This one, on the other hoof, is called "Erlenmeyer's flask".
07:40 Filly Lyra! ^_^
08:16 Haha I was thinking the same thing when I first saw this part ;D But it seems that it's not very original thought, since I saw two other reactors who did the same regard in this moment :) Or perhaps this was all set up so that we thought that :)
09:21 This comparison of Twilight and Moondancer was ingenious! She's how Twilight might have ended up if not moving to Ponyville and making some friends.
09:41 Same could be said about Twilight, if not the fact that she actually lived in a library, which was then her house. So she didn't have to move to do exactly the same ;J
09:45 Celestia's cutie mark branded sunglasses ;) Perfect fit for Twilight :J
11:34 Way to burst her bubble :P
12:14 +1 for you for knowing that :>
14:16 Oh hai SG :)
15:12 The faces of those ponies when Twilight materialized right before them - priceless :)
15:25 Exactly :> That's why she looked very much like Twilight recolour earlier. She must have been looking up to Twilight much. And her personal hero / best friend had let her down royally (no pun intended).
16:50 You can't hide, they will land upon you anyway :P What a better soft landing than upon another pony? :J
17:28 BUUUURN! Once again! :D And another proof that Pinkie should be the Element of Honesty ;J
19:04 I just waited when she will beat Twilight with that bat :D And even Twilight seems to be concerned about that in the next shot ;D
The writers are amazing, period. Not only is the show great but the lessons and feels they project in it are perfectly done :)
Thank you M. A. Larson. And thank you luffy!
i like how @ 3:05 the present wrap was green but when he picks up the teddy bear its red
"No Fitting Songs, so no intro."
.....You've got a friend in me?......
Narrator comment here!
(Uploading late ALWAYS makes me forget to do this, argh)
Luffyiscool Twilight didn't know the world was going into darkness it was celestia all twilight did was read a book and it was true.
Luffyiscool I give this a 10/10
Luffyiscool No fitting songs , so no intro eh? lucky for you i have just the song you could have used. Please check it out and let me know if you think it works.

Luffyiscool
2:28 [No fitting songs, so no intro.]
Given Twilight's plight, I think a certain song from the show itself would have been *very* fitting.

4:02 Spike: "Have you been awake all night?"
Spike, it's Twilight. Did you really have to ask?
5:55 Minuette: "You remember our old friend Lyra, right? She lives in Ponyville, too. We're always over there visiting her, or, she's coming over here!"
Hence why you've always see all of us in the backgrounds of both places. It has nothing to do with lazy animation, we swear!
18:26 Pinkie Pie = the naked female jumping out of the cake?
That emotional climax also made me tear up. Three times, at least.
I feel sad too.
starlight in the backround im calling the finale to be her taking away celestia, luna and cadance's cutie marks
Seems like this is going to be an episode on some top ten lists.
Moon Dancer's predicament is quite pitiable. I don't blame her for such a circumstance, but rebuffing all acts of friendship isn't the way to deal with it.
Moral lesson: There's more to value than what you already have. Start anew.
5:32 - "Let's hope they're not as traumatized as Minuette." :P This is Spike at his best, when he's in deadpan snarker mode..
I'm considering putting together a snark/sass compilation for Spike.
Might be fun
Well, the only sass moment that he had, which frankly negated all the good stuff that happened during the episode, is when he quipped to Twilight "heh, you look awful" when she was clearly legitimately angry with him. It's moments like that which make me say "Stick to being the butt monkey, Spike. Know your place."
I guess it all depends on the writer.
Dem feels. This season has been pretty great so far. were not even at the half way point yet. I can't wait to see whats left in store.
I had a recent falling out with some friends, so yeah, this hit me hard too. Sorry to hear about your school problems.
This was a great episode,+ Moon Dancer's hair and tail patterns are the same as Twilight's. :/ 11:11 Exactly! :3
7:05 -It's not like we weren't used to that from you.
- Yeah, you were always a shitty friend.
I know man, that Moondancer breakdown felt very real
This is my favourite episode of MLP now.
I am totally with you on the tearing up thing. I cried watching this because it reminded me of my friends and I.
Season 5 sure has lots of tears and sad moment.
I had a bad feeling when I saw Minuette's house filled with cobwebs and how she acted towards Twilight. Turns out she just had cobwebs in her house.
Bon Bon Either that, or dentists are just terrible housekeepers.
Iggy V. Ram Maybe she has a pet spider? xP
There's the difference between me and twilight, i would just assume my old friends don't care about me enough to feel sad.
3:44 Colgate MLP is gonna LOVE this episode
18:11 I'm not the only one who though the "Ooo piece of candy" bit from Family Guy right?
Hawkx10 Why would it be from Family guy of all places? It was used in FiM in Luna Eclipsed, and even before that, it was a trope already in comedy cartoons.
RubberyCat
I know but Family Guy was where it stuck in my head
Hawkx10 You aren't alone in that regard. I qas saying it the whole time. That bit is just funny in any context really
RubberyCat Also Family Guy had text to it I don't think the other tropes added text to it
Hawkx10
i actually said in my reaction "oh a piece of book" lol
If someone who just watches your videos can be a friend, you've got one here.
The show and fan work has left a mark in me… so thanks for your video :)
No need to excuse yourself! I loved your reaction and can relate to it too; and I’m pretty sure a lot of ppl can too…
Maybe you could react to some other fan animations? That would be pretty cool.
Keep up the amazing work Luffy.
This is a great episode. The main premise is a little rough. Minuet is fantastic. The callbacks to the first episode are fun.
I legit wanted to hug Moondancer tbh
(Also now I wanted to see your reaction to _Flight To The Finish_ but it's no longer in YT. Where can I find it? o.o)
Some of my S4 reactions were given a random copyright strike earlier this year.
I have to get around to uploading them to Vimeo at some point.
So where are the visits, Twilight?
14:18
Starlight glimmer
This is such a beautiful episode. It hit me in the feels as well. 10/10!
11:23 Go ahead, Moondancer, yell... No one will hear you
14:16 Look in the background
CammyWho10 Oh shit it's Starlight!
CammyWho10 Well damn now we got to go back and see where else our friend has been XD
Wesley Darnell
i imagine a lot of people are going to look back at other episodes and see if starlight will be in it.
also i have the feeling starlight might do something to them when twilight leaves :(
Brony 22 she's a stalker
DW
yeah, going to wait and see if other people will notice her in the previous episodes, but i still do wonder if she will do something to twilights old friends and maybe find a way to use that.
14:16 did you see Starlight
To the left!!!
You know It's a good show when it can make you cry.
That's why I love this show.
We will always be your friends, even if you do not know us💚💚💚
What I liked is that it was real. Something some see as small like missing a party can hurt others deeply.
Definitely one of the best episodes this season, and very relatable. This is why Larson is one of my favorite writers.
it was M A larson
yeah i agree the ending got pretty damn heavy
and just watch how luffy's smile fades and chips away during that part =(
Aw, Luffy, you're gonna make me cry! :'(
It's really cool to see many people liking Moon Dancer's reaction, but at the same time that makes me sad... Knowing that so many people felt the same way as her... (Me among those), I also really liked this episode and I cannot think of another cartoon that addressed his exact same problem, great reaction!
I'm going through this right now. It sucks, to say the least….I needed an episode like this
I'm sorry, but I can't take your comment seriously with that profile picture.
Good episode, well written and amazing how the writers can relate the story to real life.Is an amazing talent overall for them to do what they do but too represent it so well in a real life way is amazing. This show is amazing and will never be ashamed to say am 100% brony :)
19:06 I know you have a deep-seated anger against me, here, take this big stick that is perfect for swinging.
Yeah honestly Moondancer could've started hitting her instead of just pointing it at her
I really enjoyed this episode for similar reasons.
Idk if it's amusing or freakin' _creepy_ that Starlight Glimmer was at the restaurant! O~O
*~Dash~*
that is weird huh?
MrMariofan908 Yeah... O_O
Do you like Starlight?
MrMariofan908 Yeah. She uses her intelligence to get what she wants. :) She's a great character. ^u^
Rainbow Freakin' Dash
Is it bad for me to say I love her?
15:00 I have to be hearing this wrong but it sounds like Lemon Heart is saying, "Oh you know, steak dinners and stuff like that." STEAK DINNERS.
Ultrawolf563 *State* Dinners.
Hacksaw606 Thank you I was worried.
I think he meant from when it was found again until the new party.
Well, there's nothing to say that he didn't simply pick it up while they set up the party. There was a jump cut after all.
My cousin got me a shirt with Twilight Twinkle on it one Christmas.
21:23 Discord :How about a Game on pin the Tail on the Pony

I think I know. Brohoof!
BerlinBronyANdy Oh, you're here too? :) /)
Bon Bon Sure! (\
20:08 Yes, of course, I had problems with friendships and this situation in this episode does not leave me indifferent. In particular, it was social problems that I had at school. I would say that I still have some social problems
I've been meaning to say this since Princess Spike:
I've always slightly annoyed by your enthusiasm to just about everything, but now I see why you're always happy.
This episode hots me hard because of what I did to tht friend.
that story reminds of me. [sorry if i commented this so late] . tbh, it was a good episode for me
The writer of the episode was M.A. Larson...LARSON!!! jk he did an awesome job writing this episode! :D
And everyone forgot Lyra Heartstrings. Was she even at the party? At least they got her in the picture.
Twilights friends sound like the same voice actors from the 2007 Care Bears
Some of them are.
This game also has finishing moves.
RULES OF NATURE! RULES OF NATURE!
14:16 is that Starlight Glimmer on the left with the men covering her face?
Luffyiscool I can relate to this as much as you, Luffy. I'm at my 2nd year in college and I haven't made any college friends yet. (I have highschool friends, but they study at different colleges now.) I really can't relate to any sort of social stuff any other college students do, that's why I can't place myself out there to get acquainted to anyone else.
Watching this episode makes me feel I'm watching my own shadow, it just feels weird to me. M.A. Larson really is the best princess!
This was indeed a very good episode one of the season's/show's best. ^^
Pretty sure it was less that Twilight didn't come, rather than the fact that she didn't even say "goodbye" or "sorry, can't come to the party, im busy", and didn't even say anything after the fact.
+Knighthawker
Yep, pretty much.
I can't watch this again... Hit's too close to home. I almost started crying when Moondancer did. At least she got a happy ending...
I'll still like this since I know your commentary is as good as ever.
