This is actually one of my favorite episodes of this season. Moon Dancer is one of the most 3 dimensional characters I've seen this season and hope to see more of her. The part where she was expressing all the pain inside made me sad and tear up for a moment.
That whole monologue Moondancer made to Twilight really reflects how much I wanted to say the exact same thing to the girls I hung around in middle school. What I wouldn't give to hear they were sorry for treating me so cruelly. Moondancer has no idea how lucky she is that Twilight actually had the guts to apologize to her. Not a lot of people have that chance
10:35 - 11:40 Starlight's origin story in a nutshell (Just swap Twi being absent from a party for Sunburst not being in Starlight's life, and Starlight's first attempt at catharsis being the village.)
As someone who has watched and rewatched the first episode a lot in order to copy the opening word-for-word for more than one fanfiction starting from there, I feel the need to point out that the Party happened the day before Celestia send Twilight to Ponyville. Twilight looks at the Moon while she is dictating the note to Celestia, and it is day in the next scene, when she is riding the flying chariot to Ponyville. Skipping the party was all on Twilight. Oh, and consider this for your connections: Shining Armor has the Element of Magic on a shield for his Cutiemark. If he went to join the millitary and Celestia saw that on his mark, she would immediately have recognized it as the Element of Magic, and taken interest in Shining Armor's family, including installing Cadence as a foal sitter, explaining how Twilight warented a Princess as her foal sitter to begin with.
I thought that it was still daytime when Twilight was off running (rejecting the party) and still so by the time she dictated the letter to Celestia, with her mostly looking at the book with the legend about the Mare in the Moon... maybe I'm remembering things wrong though. Will have to check back on the first episode to confirm either Yay OR Nay on that one. Regardless, Josh isn't wrong that Twilight isn't completely at fault based on her knowledge at the time - one can assume that if she'd agreed to go to the party and was then pulled away by Celestia things might have turned out better for Moondancer, but who can tell for sure.
Borjan Kosarac It is the case that the Sun had not set before Twilight reached her library room, but when she was talking about the Mare in the Moon, we clearly see the Moon in the Sky. This means night had fallen by that point, as Equestria's Sun and Moon don't often share the sky. Moreover, the fact that Spike is shown reading the part about sending Twilight to Ponyville in the next scene (The following day) suggests that it is probably a different missive from the one responding to Twilight's warning, meaning that Twilight had likely been unaware that evening that she was going to be sent to Ponyville the next day. Friendship was not important to Twilight at the time, so she chose, entirely on her own, to skip the party.

Shining having the element of magic on his cutie mark before Twilight, thus alerting Celestia to the presence of something special reminds me of another "forerunner" story. Isaiah and Malachi both prophesied of a forerunner to the Jewish Messiah, who would be a "voice in the wilderness" and "prepare the way" for the Messiah. When John the Baptist came on the scene, he claimed to be the "voice of one crying in the wilderness," thus alerting anyone who knew the Scriptures and who were looking for the Messiah's coming to the presence of the Messiah. When Jesus revealed himself, John pointed him out as the lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world. I don't point this out to be sacrilegious, comparing sacred beliefs with a kids tv show, as I myself am a Christian, but the concept of a forerunner, even if that wasn't the intention with Shining Armor and Twilight, is really interesting to me. Thank you Skye, for raising that theory.
This episode struck an emotional chord with me indeed. The feeling of being so alienated can be hard to deal with. I know it well. Moondancer is probably one of the most relatable characters for me, and she's only been in one episode. I hope to see her more!

O.o Commander Firebrand, thank you so much for making this video. I just found out a my grandmother in law passed away today, i loved her very much and she treated me like her very own granddaughter. I am devastated, and haven't felt like this since my aunt suzy passed away when i was 15. Since i wasnt blood i wasn't allowed to attend her funeral service and i was heartbroken. Ever since suzys death I was indifferent to every single person i knew that passed away, i saw them detoriate so i had the chance to prepare myself for their deaths. I didn't get to prepare myself for suzys, she was fine one minute and gone the next, add that on to not being able to attend her funeral, i believe my attitude towards death essentially became like Moondancers in this episode. But since finding out about my in laws death earlier today, i realized I hadn't felt this angry and upset since suzy, and now i know what it is im feeling. Thank you for making it a little easier to deal with my grandmas passing. I didn't realize how impassive and even insensitive I seemed to others and even to myself when it came to death until now. Keep doing what you do, you're amazing at it.

This really is one of the best of the season for sure. And I'm glad you got into the psychology of the episode. There's that phrase "your perception becomes your reality," and it really did for Moondancer. This episode may have had the greatest impact on me out of all of them in the series. I've been trying harder to keep in contact with old friends who are now in the military while I'm out in college. Thanks for the video! This is possibly my favorite from you, Commander.

"don't you dare." this is why I love this channel. and did anyone else notice that for that to be aria blaze in the diner would be impossible, because not only could she not get through the portal, she isn't a unicorn, when the pony in the diner is. its most likely starlight glimmer, because shes a unicorn, and looks very much like aria. same pink-purple skin, purple-and-blue striped hair, even the same violet eyes.... I'm positive it was starlight glimmer.
Honestly whenever I watch filly Twilight in that scene I don't so much here Timmy Turner as I do Bubbles Utonium of The Powerpuff Girls, and as Silver Quill MLP has proven in amending fences after the fact, I'm not the only one

Credits error! The clip you used about the dazzling was from rainbow rocks, not the friendship games! XD Anyway, one of the best episodes yet. Bringing everything full circle from the start, giving a great lesson, and showing Twilight growing and caring more and more about not just her closest friends, but some of her older ones too!
I've been through catharsis in middle school too. Like I got bullied, lied to, and lost my pet. Now I got friends, even though one is starting to get on my nerves. I need to take a break from her. But other than that, cartharsis is like a gate busting open and the release of my emotions is powerful. It's a surge of feelings.
6:26 True, Twily isn't 100% at fault but her exact words in Ep.1 were "Sorry, girls; I have a lot of studying to catch up on." an' their reaction was "Does that pony do anything other than study?" plus the party happened during the day whereas Nightmare Moon didn't show up until at night, meeeaning that during the party as far as Twily's Canterlot friends knew she blew Moon Dancer off for the sake of studying.
i have a small theory that probably isn't true that rwilight saw the actual events from moondancer's party through zecora's posion in the season 4 premiere but scence id didn't have to do with anything she dismissed it untill now
omg omg omg :D he used like a 2 second clip of the bass drop from Skrillex - Right In! this was one of my favorite episodes of the series also, but to Josh's dismay, i split the hair for my top 5 and chose Do Princesses Dream Of Magic Sheep over this episode, even though this was a better story, but there was just more going on in DPDOMS, so i overall rated that one slightly slightly higher, like half a point higher in a 100 point system.

It's something which users shouldn't have to worry about, but it's an imperfect world. The audio in this particular video is very unbalanced, and desperately needs some compression. That "rekt-not-rekt" section nearly blew my damn speakers out, since I had to turn up the volume so far just to hear him talking in the moments before.

I really loved this one. Loved the episode and the connections you made were really interesting. And I'll admit, I freaked out a bit when I heard the Sly Cooper music. *sigh* so good.
Season 5 has had a ton of great episodes, and this review just reminds me how good it has been. And Catharsis! I got to experience that a lot last weekend. So hey, now I have a new word to describe all the feelings I was dealing with. Go team.

I like episodes like this that are incredibly realistic emotionally (and contain real characters that are not the main ones).
The "The Not Study Game" was my favorite game when I was a kid. Then I went to middle school and I couldn't play it anymore.

Actually, Twilight went to Ponyville the next day, the day before NMM actually returned with the Sunrise. She could have spent the afternoon at Moondancer's party THEN got ready to head to Ponyville.
So, yeah, a boot bit of blame falls on Twilight this case... (sees Twilight's puppy dog eyes) but not ALL the blame!!

"don't you dare." this is why I love this channel. and did anyone else notice that for that to be aria blaze in the diner would be impossible, because not only could she not get through the portal, she isn't a unicorn, when the pony in the diner is. its most likely starlight glimmer, because shes a unicorn, and looks very much like aria. same pink-purple skin, purple-and-blue striped hair, even the same violet eyes.... I'm positive it was starlight glimmer.
Honestly whenever I watch filly Twilight in that scene I don't so much here Timmy Turner as I do Bubbles Utonium of The Powerpuff Girls, and as Silver Quill MLP has proven in amending fences after the fact, I'm not the only one

Anyway, one of the best episodes yet. Bringing everything full circle from the start, giving a great lesson, and showing Twilight growing and caring more and more about not just her closest friends, but some of her older ones too!
I've been through catharsis in middle school too. Like I got bullied, lied to, and lost my pet. Now I got friends, even though one is starting to get on my nerves. I need to take a break from her. But other than that, cartharsis is like a gate busting open and the release of my emotions is powerful. It's a surge of feelings.
6:26 True, Twily isn't 100% at fault but her exact words in Ep.1 were "Sorry, girls; I have a lot of studying to catch up on." an' their reaction was "Does that pony do anything other than study?" plus the party happened during the day whereas Nightmare Moon didn't show up until at night, meeeaning that during the party as far as Twily's Canterlot friends knew she blew Moon Dancer off for the sake of studying.

i have a small theory that probably isn't true that rwilight saw the actual events from moondancer's party through zecora's posion in the season 4 premiere but scence id didn't have to do with anything she dismissed it untill now

this was one of my favorite episodes of the series also, but to Josh's dismay, i split the hair for my top 5 and chose Do Princesses Dream Of Magic Sheep over this episode, even though this was a better story, but there was just more going on in DPDOMS, so i overall rated that one slightly slightly higher, like half a point higher in a 100 point system.

+Whirl Wind Your hardware-OS combination may support volume (or 'loudness') equalization, which is effectively compression, so you might never hear the differences others do. It's something which users shouldn't have to worry about, but it's an imperfect world.
The audio in this particular video is very unbalanced, and desperately needs some compression. That "rekt-not-rekt" section nearly blew my damn speakers out, since I had to turn up the volume so far just to hear him talking in the moments before.
Great review for a great episode.
