That very 066 was the very first saw that got me started in this business It was my buddy Jerry’s saw (he was one hell of a faller) “RIP”and someone he had working for him ran it on a woodpile with a dull chain and did her in “piston and cylinder”……. I called him up and was looking for a saw to do some falling with on my property and he said “take this old thing you’ll figure out how to make her go” 😁

Our family ranch had a hill that was almost all power pole trees. We would climb them to limb up. Besides fire wood some of the first bit of falling that I did was pole trees. Always a degree of forethought to it all. Thanks for taking us along.

Oh. That little tip to get the chain back on the rail. I wish I knew that. I ate up a bar trying to get it back on the rail before I just tore the whole thing apart.
I set 8)100' poles for lighting a Kentucky high-school football/track field in the early 60s. Wind snapped one off in the 70s. Couldn't acquire a 100' replacement. Had to settle for a 95' out of Georgia. Serving the light fixtures on those poles was scary. The cross arms had to be realigned every year for the first three years due to the twist of the grain. Nowadays, all sports field poles are galvanized steel.😏
I grew up in the PNW and would routinely climb those trees well over a hundred feet. I couldn’t imagine doing that now as an adult. I wouldn’t want to be working on those lights a hundred feet in the air! That must have been something to accomplish considering all the logistics involved.

Ol chips chookin outta that pretty luiminum cover….hatfields&mcoys and saws rippin…..my brothers best friends Boyd Holbrook who plays cap Hatfield….robbie was his name before he went to new York…lol..we all went to school together…✌🏻
im so jealous of you because you can afford a 660 size saws and actually use them too i cut with a 5105 dolmar and 18 inch bar i can easily smash a 36 inch tree with it and i love that saw but its no 462 or 660i wish i could afford a saw like that and if we had trees where you needed a 32 or 36 inch bar dailyit would be awesome
When you cut with donny again ask him about making poles right in town just up the hill in Puyallup right next to a whole bunch of houses and walking trail. We also made some cedar poles out on that nice 40 acre tube patch we did. Thanks guys be careful.

that's definitely a handy trick to know in them woods where its just you and the timber you're in, lmao. Nothing sucks more than messing up a bar by getting it pinched or throwing your chain and not knowing how to pop it back on without tools. So every tip you can learn in the woods or by pros given u listen and follow what they say because it will help you in the long run ten fold.

They really want a telephone pile 100ft tall? I've never seen one taller than 40 or 50 ft. Anything taller than that is metal. At least in my state anyways. Is that just in my area? Has anyone else ever see a wooden 100ft power/telephone pole? 13:32
I sold my 661 and got a 066 gave it the WCS goodies I cannot stand the sound of the 661, I strip saw and it is absolutely annoying listening to that m-tronic garbage, could have carbed it but I love the old girls

Cut lotsa poles 80 to 110 ft in the 90's for Simpson down in the shelton matlock area. Most were 24-30 on the butt.

They are common here in Texas for older large transmission lines.
Typical utility poles measure 30 to 60 feet for poles in residential neighborhoods, and from 60 feet to over 120 feet along major highways.
