This has absolutely been the BEST video for this type of installation I have ever seen!! Well done, thorough, professional, but still presented at a level the DIY could understand! I bought the exact same Humminbird (12") that I intend to install on the bow of my 1992 - 17' Bass Tracker Tournament boat and also a 9" Lorance for the Dash, so showing how you mount the 2 transducers was very helpful. I just need to figure out how to wire the cables from the bow mounted 15" Fishfinder back to the sub panel at the dash or back separately direct to the battery. I wish I had you there helping with my installation. Great job!!
As soon as you started rolling out the cable out instead of just pulling it off I said I’m watching this whole video because this guy knows what he’s doing, I’ve done low voltage for 5 years.
In general, the TI units are faster in response to inputs. This is seen when quickly switching between sonar, downscan, chart, and split screens th-cam.com/users/postUgkxeAxH15LxhjGlg5-CRYqjTGTEH0tbY4vk recommend The Hook units will show some lag on button pushes and screen switching. The big ticket item though is maps. If you install a mapping card such as Navionics or the free C-Map Genesis which has a lot of map detail, then moving around the map with the cursor or when running down the lake can lag significantly on the Hook units, but is seamless with the TI units.
Please tell Andy, he did a awesome job at explaining this method of installation and for including certain pertinent info that would get a zillion questions on.....lol Clean, precise and definitely professional! Just got a used skiff and looking to clean everything up and the wiring looks like a bird’s nest! I can’t have that, plus I’ll be upgrading the electronics this fall and want to have all my home runs ran for when they go on sale.
I am looking at purchasing this very unit. I assume that I have to buy a second side imaging transducer and a y cable to offset the noise given by my trolling motor. I would suggest using an isolator inline to a second battery which I will be dedicating to my Solix. I like how 8 gauge was noted for the power cable. Overall this was a very professional presentation which I am bookmarking for my future install. Thank you and well done!
only concern i have is there was no footage of you sealing the holes for mounting the transducer blocks, but then showed sealing a hole above waterline in cable management
This was very helpful. I just bought a boat. Get ready to install helix 9. My question is, where would I install the transducer order eighteen sixty c c jawboat with the duck bills on the back if you could help I.'d sure appreciate
Thanks! I needed this. Question, what size gauge cabling for the power from the units to the sub-panel? 10-2 gauge? Also are the connections to ring terminals also soldered or just crimped?
Great video, thanks. Just a quick question, when explaining where to position your side transducer you say to position the top of the ducer 1/4" below bottom of boat but then say that puts the bottom of the ducer above the bottom of the boat? I dont understand. If the top of the ducer is 1/4" BELOW bottom, doesnt that put the entire ducer BELOW the boat?? Just got a side scan unit and want to make sure i install the ducer correctly.
That is correct Bean, it was a misspeak on Andy's part. Position the top of the SI transducer 1/4'' ABOVE the bottom of the boat. Thanks for checking in on this. Figured there would be a few questions from those using the content as intended.
Just installed mine and use 1/4 “ coaxial cable clamps. I think they are a little heavier then the standard one like you were using. They already have a screw which I replace with a stainless.
I have had the same issues with finding the right size cable fastener...I have been using a few rounds of black electric tap in the spot where the fastner will tighten down on the wire....seems to work good for me
Did you use any sealant on the screws or the transducer mounting board? And do you have the contact information for the people to make that particular board? Thanks in advance.
Thanks! I am curious how you rigged 2 side imaging transducers and the high speed skimmer to the same head unit? Did you have to use 2 different Y splitters? Does it make a difference for Helix units?
Hi Michael, 3 ducers into 1 unit is possible with using 2 "y" cables. 1 - 14M ID SILR Y (SOLIX) to separate the left and right SI beams, that "y" cable then plugs into a 14M ID SIDB Y and the high speed skimmer into the other end of the "Y" cable. Hope this helps.
I have basically the same setup with a left and right Si and Sonar transducer. Humminbird kept telling me I had interference so I ran the transducer cables through electrical conduit that runs just under the top rail of the boat. I ran the power in a separate conduit directly to the main battery. Then cables connect to the Y cables and attached to my Helix unit. I decided to try left and right Si because I was getting signal loose on opposite side for Si. With two no loose. I did figure out the boat level trolling at 1.5 mph. Then with the boat on the trailer leveled and did the level of my two Si transducers. I have the Sonar slightly pointing forward so I get a reading while going full throttle which is max 40 mph. I had a local shop clean up the wiring that was on the main battery. I explicitly told them the fish finder wire is purposely ran by itself and connects direct to battery. When I got the boat they ran it into the wiring tube and connected to new wiring junction. So far I haven't seen any interference. I should of made a note and left it in the boat.
Great video. I've seen a bunch but nowhere near as good as this. Where can I find 5 amp slow blow/mdl fuses in a blade style? I can't find them anywhere. I'm trying to mount a Helix 10 and a Helix 9.
Great video. For a high speed transducer do you recommended the Black Plastic flip up lock in place style? Or can the transducer be installed with a stainless steel bracket? In your opinion which is better? Thanks for the great videos Andy
My Humminbird calls for a slow blow fuse. I noticed every fuse panel uses fast acting blade fuses. Can Humminbirds just not be connected to these panels?
I have two batteries wired together. Combining the starting battery and trolling motor. Increased capacity. My question is: will that be enough for the LS too? One battery has 550 CCA 685ca at 32 degrees 140reserve capacity.. and the other one has 1000 marine cranking amps and 180 reserve.
@@Wired2Fish strange, there is just no sealant/adhesive talk when mounting that transducer plate. I thought that the holes needed to be sealed after being drilled out, and the plate itself..
You're still drilling into the boat why would this be any better than the normal way? Regardless you will eventually making 4+ Holes in transom on later dates?

This is an incredible video. Guy is an absolute pro! Thank you for sharing this.
I would add marine grade silicone/adhesive to the screws drilled into the hull supporting the transducer bracket. Great presentation!

We'll be sure to pass on your note. Good luck with new used boat and getting it overhauled!
Well done guys ! Very well thought out, concise, well lit and edited. Thank you for your efforts.
thanks Kirk!
Great video. Nice to see someone taking pride in there installs
Wow thanks Andy, thought I was watching Kirk Gibson install the humminbird.
This was an excellent and very easy to follow video. Thank you!
Excellent video. Thanks!
Great job on this video, excellent info.
7:47 is using a marine adhesive aka glue, not preferable to drilling into boat?
Thanks i been looking for a video that is clear on a angle i should put mine on your video shows clearly.

Excellent video! Question-what is the best path around the swim ladder for the transducer wire on the new Lunds?
There is a second passageway hidden underneath the ladder platform.
What kind of sealant do you use? And did you use sealant when you put the boards in with the screws?
My exact question. What kind of marine grade silicone is the best for Aluminum boats and transducer mounting boards ? Without using adhesive’s.

@@Wired2Fish Awesome!!!! Thanks for the quick reply! Off to mount my new transducer.
@@Wired2Fish hi. I bought a humminbird 9 and only comes with the side imaging transducer. Do I need to purchase the other/ smaller transducer? Thanks

what is the advantage of using a metal bracket over a plastic brkt for the high-speed transducer?

Great video but you covered everything I knew, what about the Networking and Y-Cable ????????
cam out king
Doesn't it matter which side of motor you mount?
I would have sealed the plate and filled the holes with 5200 water always finds a way
Jeezez thats an expensive setup
Drilling into your hull anyway. Is a big no no
