Absolutely the best tutorial I've seen on MinnKota's trolling motors! Thanks a bunch; I have a Terrova on order and will be installing it in the spring.
1:09
Probably the best tutorial for anything I've seen ever lol
Best video I’ve seen. You are straight to the point and you covered every aspect of installation that is needed
Thanks Ric. The goal was to give the trolling motor buyer a comprehensive walk-through on how to attack the job, from a seasoned installer. Andy is very thorough. Good fishing to you.
I just installed my Terrova, awesome tutorial on installation. Thanks Jeff
Ive literally watched this three times before I start installing mine. Fantastic video!
My motor and Hummingbird were just delivered 30 mins ago. You just answered every question I had and some I never thought of. Thanks for a great tutorial!
I just purchased this same trolling motor and after watching this video I am pretty confident I can install it myself. Thanks, Great explanation
I wish his shop was closer to me I’d have him do all my work ! Probably the most knowledgeable rigging shop ever !! But I’m 9 hrs away !
Hi Glenn, we hear ya. Talented riggers are not everywhere.
@@Wired2Fish We'll be in GR in October I'll stop and say hi !!!
... road trip 🤪
This video is perfect timing as My Terrova ILink just came in today!! Great video very easy to follow! thank you for the time you put in to make this video.
Glad it was helpful George. Good luck fishing and enjoy your new Terrova!
Fantastic video. I just installed a Terrova today, and I sure hope you meant to say "24 inches", rather than 24 feet at 18:09 mins.
Yea, 24' away caught me off guard too. I was just looking through the comments to see if anybody else called him on that.
I guess on real boats.. lol lol heck 24ft is bigger than most inland fishing boats lol
Great video!! I have the exact motor and bracket, Im just waiting for some warmer weather to unwrap the boat and get this installed. This will be very helpful
Perfect, exactly what this video was intended for.
Great Detailed Professional video, thank you Andy!
Excellent tutorial with common sense approach
Paced instruction with accurate procedures
Well done!
Just ordered one today to install in the off season.
Excellent instruction, thank you. I'll be installing my Ulterra tomorrow and appreciate the good advice.
Thanks! How'd the install go?
No problems with the install with my brother-in-law helping. Going out tomorrow to check it out and calibrate. Thanks again for the good video! All the best.
Thanks for the video. It’s gonna help me out a lot.
No problem 👍
I didn't know they made a specific model for pontoons. I just installed a Minn Kota Edge on mine. It's not anything fancy, but it works great. It was pretty easy to install, too.
Thanks for sharing. I did some custom mods to mount a Minn Kota Ulterra on our family pontoon. The Minn Kota Talon Pontoon Edge Mount Kit was pretty effective and easy to install too.Minn Kota Talon Pontoon Edge Mount Kit: th-cam.com/video/zs6A1OL7dXw/w-d-xo.html
Good video! I had the same problem with the roll hitting the trolling motor bracket at the launch while loading depending how steep each launch are. One way to bring up the tip of your hull up once you cranking up and you know your boat need to be elevated more. You get in your truck and move forward 10-20 inches and that will bring your front hull up above the roll.
Thanks man. Found this video helpful for me
Great instruction video help me a lot with a lot of questions I have planning on picking up one of those Minn kota Terrova upgrading from a 12 volt system to a 24 volt system
Excellent video! Thank you for the great tutorial!!
Best installation video online, many thanks
Two years later this motor is going strong th-cam.com/users/postUgkxBZWgzfpS2Jj7JqIHyaSZjyVHNUgCKCBf Just uploaded a video of it after 2 years. We use it probably a dozen days each year on our small raft.-original review- We got this motor the other day and tested it out. I don't have anything to compare it to, but it seems good to me. It has all the features advertised - the motor housing is metal. We will see how it performs longer term and I will revise this review if needed. Some initial observations:- Good thrust, moves our boat around really well- It comes with a circuit breaker but no switch - so there's no way to kill the motor other than yanking the connection off the battery. I installed an inline switch.- The mount bracket is plastic and I worry it might break- There are a number of plastic parts that I worry about, but the most important ones are metal or some kind of composite
Excellent video, much appreciated.
You make great installation videos, they are a big help. Thank you!
I'd like to add a quick detach bracket to an 80# Ultrex 60" that is mounted on my 1875 Pro-V. Can you recommend one over the other...the aluminum MKA 52/62 vs the Poly MKA-23? I had the alum version on a Terrova that was on my last boat, but didn't remove it often. I am leaning towards the MKA-23 for ease of removal, thinking there are a couple small things on the boat deck that could interfere while trying to slide the MKA-52 in place. My Ultrex 60" is the largest the MKA -23 is rated for, and I'm wondering if it will be robust enough. Spent about my time on the Great Lakes.
Perfect explanation!
Good stuff Andy!

Thanks for the tips my friend!
Great video.
Excellent! Thank you
Great Job, thanks!
Thanks for watching Dale. Are you doing an install yourself? If so, let us know how it goes and if this vid is/was helpful.
Great video. Unless I missed it however, you never mentioned need for 60 Amp breaker? I am installing 12 V Terrova so will be installing 50 AMP breaker.
I noticed that on the power cord you left all of the slack in the cord and had it tied together up near the trolling motor. Is there any reason a guy can't cut the power cord shorter when making the connection to the plug and avoid the need to keep everything tied together up near the motor?
Hey Guy...great tutorial. What do you use for anti-seize?
I have watched your video a couple of times. I used the quick release bracket everything in the video. I noticed when you turned on the power. You did not check the tester for the batteries, should that be green or red. I'm showing red, I have power and good voltage to all my sources. batteries are at full charge?? Thanks for the awesome video
Great tips!!
Trying to build a bracket for mounting a trolling motor. What’s the distance from the front of the quick release plate, to the shaft? I dont have either on hand.
Can you do a video. On the powering up setup if you just have a tinner boat (that doesn't have existing outlet)
great tutorial
It's a great video, was able to install the whole system along with 24v power supply system. I have a question regarding the gps sensor thought. Will it draw power from the 12v battery during everything is off & boat is resting? Is it constantly looking for signal ? i have no shut off button for it and its hooked straight to 12v. Currently had replaced the 12battery and looking for reason why its losing alot of juice even if the boat is sittin in garage. Thanks in advance & happy fishin!
Yep, you'll need to install a power switch.
Hello, I ran into a problem with loosening bolts on Minn Kota Terrova 80 /US2/IP 72 24V.
Tell me the marking of the hexagon, I can’t find it in stores.
Great vid. Any idea for plug & receptacle on flat deck of pontoon boat? Looking for clamshell type solution to keep water out of receptacle. Thanks
OK....The issue is what if we want to install an Ultrex motor ?? How do we do that given the size of the motor base and the snaps on the top of the bow platform ? The Lund travel cover won't work with the Ultrex.....right ?
Is there an extension cable for the MDI sonar to get back to my Helix G4N head unit at the console?
How do you recommend plugging old holes left in an aluminum bow from an old trolling motor? Every motor seems to have a different hole pattern, leaving boats looking like Swiss cheese.
Hi Mark, structurally, there isn't an issue with holes. If you were concerned about that, you could add a piece of plywood to the underside and add some silicone to the screw/bolt heads to maybe add some rigidity and seal the holes to prevent water penetration to the front cubby. Alternatively, a dab of silicone into each hole is a good water penetration prevention measure.
I installed my troll motor I have a beaker on front battery and 20amp fuse on back battery the 20amp fuse keeps popping at a higher speed on the troll what should I do to Salve this issue thank you sir
Your video was a big help for my install one last ? I did get the heading sensor with the troll motor In The box should I call them or do they all not come with them ?
The Terrova 80 under minimal load, full power (#10), will draw almost 42 amps. The recommended breakers a 60 amp-this motor will require max 56 amps under max draw, heavy wind, river current, chopping thru weeds, etc. Get rid of your 20 amp fuse + install the 60 amp breaker on your positive output wire, near the batteries
Can you use the same mounting bracket on the Terrova and Riptide?
Do I need the quick release bracket? Also does it matter which side of the bow the shaft is on? I've upgraded to the Terrova and I currently have the edge. Tracker or Bass Pro put the shaft just left of the bow. I can't put my motor all the way down when it's on the trailer. Yours looks like it would be on the right. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Is this a service shop? And if so can I get the name and location. I'm looking to possibly have this same motor with 2 locators installed this spring. Thanks for the help
How would you fix the left side cover and the red and black cords if the trolling motor did hit the trailer roller when loading???
I have an ulterra 45 inch shaft. How do I get the shaft to go all the way down? It leaves 3” of shaft on top. I need at least 2 of those. Any ideas?
I’m about to wire mine up,this won’t be as fast for me 😂
I'm in the same boat. 🤞🏻 Here's hoping.
So the instructions say to mount it so that the shaft is a 1 1/2" away from the gunwale, u just mounted the cutout flush or a little past the gunwale which would be alot closer then a 1 1/2 if ur flush, do u know why they say this in the instructions have u ever had any problems the way u did it, id rather do it like u and have the least amount hanging of the side as possible...mounting it right now so a quick reply would be awesome...thanks
can i hook it up to a lowrance fish finder?
So the puck will shutdown once the motor is down if its not connected to a power switch? I am hoping I can put it to a switch but if not then I am stuck going directly to the battery, not sure how long that power cord is? I am waiting for my motor to arrive, I ordered it a week ago.
Puck stays on, unfortunately. Need to install a power switch.
Can you put the heading sensor next to the trolling motor??
You might have some interference if it is too close.
Thanks for this Vid... Are you A Minnkota dealer? If not who did you purchase your Terrova from ?
Yes, Andy is a Minn Kota dealer. The boat owner had the Terrova in his possession -- not sure where it was purchased.
Which hummingbird finder would be the best choice for this ?
The depends on your budget and the desired capabilities. The HELIX lineup are always solid but if you want a touchscreen, then SOLIX is the way to go.
@@Wired2Fish Thanks
does i-pilot and spot lock only work if you have the hummingbird helix?
Any models that say One Boat Network. New Helix, Solix, and Apex control heads and only select trolling motors.
Hello,
Can I connect heading sensor on the same battery with Terrova?
Thanks for asking. A 12-volt power source powers the Heading Sensor, so it can't be powered off of the same batteries as the Terrova, which is available in a 24v or 36v option (not 12v). You'll want to run a lead to your 12v electronics or dual-purpose marine cranking battery.
Hi, I may have missed it… how long should the trolling motor shaft be for that boat?
I went for 60". Better to err on the side of too long than too short, especially since it is easily adjustable.
Can I use this troling motor without foot pedal installed?
Yes, foot pedal is optional. Can control the trolling motor with your remote, your phone, and the control head.
Mount the heading sensor at least 24 inches away from the trolling motor or ferrous metal…not 24 feet away.
Any news on when/if Minn Kota will have its own brushless trolling motor?
Hi Paul, we're not aware of anything.
I don’t know if you realize it, but there is a commercial every 15 seconds with this video. I couldn’t even watch it.
Might be your Google or TH-cam account. I didn't see any.
Why after my motor is in the stored mode and it is paired the prop does not spin?
I don't thank I want that little round thang use for jogging, also did not see him install any circuit breaker in there, don't you need to have one for keeping from frying all the goodies down the line?
They're individually hooked up to a fuse box.
