Mafuyu's mother is the scariest character in the game. Like, she's already scary from all of her previous interactions with Mafuyu, but somehow getting a model and a voice only adds to that factor... and I think it's because she's eerily similar to Mafuyu. She looks similar to Mafuyu, she dresses similar to Mafuyu, and she even acts and sounds similar to Mafuyu's "good girl" persona from how nice and polite she seems at first glance; and just like her daughter, there's a hint of "something else" hiding beneath her smile.
Adding to that is that she's pretty much in control of this entire thing. She's the one who chooses the venue, she's the one who initiates the conversation, and she's the one controlling where the conversation is going. And the scariest part, I think, is that she never outrights react badly to anything Kanade said; like, I was so tense when Kanade admits she doesn't really care about exams or university compared to making music, scared on how she'd react, but Mafuyu's mother just... accepts it and even praises Kanade for knowing what to do with her life. It should be a good thing, but it's not, and as the conversation goes on you get the feeling that everything Mafuyu's mother said has double layers or meaning to them; the fact that even the music seems to bend to her whims, stopping and changing whenever she changes the flow of conversation, only adds to this uneasy feeling.
Honestly, props to the writer(s) because they've written Mafuyu's mother superbly. You can really see and understand just why Mafuyu feel so trapped and hopeless against her mother.

Control freak.... smart people who know how to execute all of this perfectly are the scariest to escape from
Ikr, she's basically just controlling her own daughter, and she even make it seems like there's nothing wrong with it. She keeps saying that music this and that, aren't necessarily important to mafuyu's life, even tho she doesn't even know her own daughter's life that well. Also, i noticed how she wouldn't react that much to whatever kanade is saying, and that creeps me out considering most manipulative people do that sht so well

This is one of the most realistically written manipulative conversations I've seen. Momfuyu doesn't say anything that actually betrays her real intentions, and Kanade can only recognize it for what it is because of how well she knows Mafuyu. It's disgusting but in a really well executed way if that makes sense lmao.
She's like what people suspected Mafuyu to be like at first. Both of them put up a polite, warm act, but Mafuyu does it because she wants to make others happy, and Mafumama does it to further isolate and control her daughter.
That's enough miss asahina.

i think the scariest thing abt mfy’s mom is that she’s not like cartoon levels of Evil Bad Parent, it’s the fact that she’s a very human kind of bad parent. based on what we know about her i think it is impossible for her to be this way without having experienced some sort of trauma herself growing up (whether generational, or related to missed opportunities, or whatever), hence it being pushed onto mfy too. but this event shows that whatever her Reason For Being Like That is, it does not excuse her actions whatsoever. she knows how to bend debates and conversations over in her favor using her words, but she truly seems to believe that what she’s doing is not wrong. she lives vicariously through her child whilst ignoring what said child truly wants in the way that so many parents do everywhere, stuck in their ways. because of this i really do not think they’ll attempt to “redeem” her or have her truly come to understand mafuyu’s point of view - at best she’ll superficially she’ll step down from objecting what mfy wants to do in the future if mfy shows more agency as the story goes on
Mafuyu's mom is terrifying because her character is so real. She isn't comically evil, she looks and acts like just another person. She says all the right things but something always feels so OFF and you're always left super uncomfortable without actually being able to point a finger as to why
When I first heard mafumom's talking, I thought that maybe she isn't that bad. But I was totally wrong. This is exactly how a manipulative person is. Talks so calmly and kindly but actually isn't. It's so scary to watch this. Hope we can get an event where mafuyu finally can talk about her own feelings.

It just felt so tense. As a reader you would like Kanade to just say everything about how mafuyu can literally die if left to her own devices and yet telling that to her mother might have a great consequence. You would just like to scream at her that being a doctor isn't Mafuyus dream at all. Thats why Kanade disnt want to go with ena or mizuki, she was scared that they would just say everythibg directly (and especially ena with her short temper).
I also hate that when we see the mom for the first time she is dresses in the same clothes mafuyu always casually wears, because Mafuyu doesn't know what kind of clothes would be good for her, and that you can literally feel that MAFUYU IMITATES HER MOTHERS TALKING PATTERN. The same like almost dramatical happiness. god. and i felt she cant be hated more

We either need the Shinonomes to forcefully adopt her, introduce her to Ken (An's father) and make him adopt her and treat her like he treats An, Emu force her family to adopt her, Shizuku to provide her place in her home, or Kanade to invite her to stay permentaly at her home. But jokes aside for the whole time Mafuyu's mom was here I was literally shivering and I wanted to run away like at one point I accidently screamed for Kanade to run away, the smile was terrifying, her voice props to the voice actor but they seriously went hard like it sounded so fake something and you can tell Mafuyu's mum is calculated by just watching what she says she never outright disagrees with Kanade but takes a more indirect approach and guilt trips Kanade. For example quitting the group,
" I'm afraid that wouldn't be a great idea as it's very important for teenagers to be socialising with their peers , in fact I feel like it's not healthy to not be hanging out with your friends once and a while , and you also said it's good to take a break from studying, mafuyu doing music even as a hobby is actually very healthy and good for her as it can help her take her mind of stressful topics such as tests or exams coming up , even if you think she should stop music it wouldn't hurt to keep doing it as a hobby once and a while ,you could simply just tell her that she can have a time limit each day on how much she can do say 3 or 5 hours a day or less if you want ,making songs can also be pretty therapeutic for some people most likely too , so mabey you should consider what I'm saying and let mafuyu stay in the group so she can have a breather once and awhile while doing something that makes her happy , I promise you that mafuyu will still be able to pursue her dreams and if she ever needed it us 3 could help her with some school related stuff , which I dought she will ever need to ask because she is so smart , mafuyu really is such a gem

i really like how this chapter is structured. with every minute, things fall apart just a little bit more. mafumom's amicable exterior begins to show ulterior motives little by little. the musical shift when it starts to really dawn on kanade is great too. mafumom's a character i love to hate. she's awful, but she's a fantastically written character

I don't know if they're intentionally going for unease in some places, but it looks like a lot of the animations on Momfuyu are VERY unfinished. For a character this important I find it pretty unacceptable to be perfectly honest.
