The way he shows genuine care and concern for Mafuyu's well being makes me wonder how he ended up with that Witch. Also i feel like when he questioned her, i can practically see that she's gonna try and do what she does best. Gaslighting, Guilt Tripping and Victim Blaming
Arranged marriage perhaps? We don't know anything about Mafuyu's grandparents from what I've seen, but maybe they wanted Mafuyu's dad to marry into her mother's family, or vice versa.
She was probably a decent adult until she started shoving her expectations onto her daughter.

She seemed like an extremely caring mother in the Saisei Mafuyu event- the one where Mafuyu got a fever when she was little and Ms. Asahina prioritized her instead of the work she had to do. She probably just got so caught up in "wanting the best" for Mafuyu and, in the process, ended up putting all those unnecessary expectations on her.

because mafuyu's mom isn't evil, she's simply doing what she thinks is right, kind of a "what's a little suffering now if you're going to be happy and safe later?" mentality, but that also means she's completely ignoring mafuyu's needs and wants /now/, and that's the issue. painting her as "evil manipulating witch" is clearly not what pjsk is going for.

Mafu dad seems like a nice person, but he really wasn’t that present in Mafuyu’s life, was he? He probably doesn’t even know how her mother treated her, how she destroyed her computer, threw out her synthesizer, tried to snatch her phone.
There are points where she specifically refrains from speaking about those topics to Mafuyu at dinner in front of him so yeah he's probably not clued in to the full extent of her manipulation
