Great video! I really appreciate all the playing you did to demonstrate and "prove" the differences and similarities that you were talking about. Thanks for posting.
I LOVE the opera model of the contrabass bones, I think it's definitely going to be one of my dream instruments, not that I'll ever need one buttt they're just so cool
Very educational thanks! Inspired to "study trombones" been playing my F attatchment Getzen for 25 years, and a regular tenor 10 years prior, thought I knew it all.
You sound great on both. Agree the new horn has a clarity and (perceived) ease of playing that the other doesn’t. Especially focused mids and highs on the new horn. Less work to get what you want! Enjoy the new horn!
Yes, how I feel as well. The old horn has a really beautiful sound to it, but the new one blends with others and makes more sound generally with less effort.
I’m afraid the nod goes to the newer horn due to hand slide position etc, but you better not be in a tight seating situation with it! Sound on the old one exactly as you described, a bit covered, not the clarity of the new. 😊
I think the new horn is overall better, high range and low range on new contra are superior, although I think I prefer the mid-range on the old contra. With that being said, and I think you'll agree, the new contra is just overall better & more consistent.
@@AidanRitchie i would guess Monke, Glassl, or Enders? theres a lot of post-ww2 german makers that made horns of similar designs/looks. may also have been a horn an apprentice of one of the famed german hornmakers made that didnt quite qualify for the brand name to be carved onto it.

I pulled the trigger and bought the Yamaha 613G thanks to you! Can’t wait to get home to play it
Alright, I’m sold. My sterling silver Bach 36 for the Lätzsch. 😂😂😂
Hahaha
all these contra videos are gonna make me do something stupid… i can’t resist forever!

I like the older horn for it's sound
Yup, it has a really cool sound. Buy it from me! Haha

Really enjoy the overall resonance of the older horn, but the new horn seems more consistently bright. Especially in the upper range.

good call on the sound differences

Yup! It's like using a vintage horn vs a modern design on bass or tenor... the old horn probably has a sound, but it's not always worth the tradeoff.
They both sound great but really nice dark sound in the low range on the opera contrabass. 5:50.
Yup, it really did have a cool sound. Sold now!
I like the old one better.
It had a very cool sound. And that's about it! The new one is better in every other way
@@AidanRitchie Very true. One really needs to play the instrument to fully appreciate what that means. Thanks for giving us a peek though.
I have a quick question, I’ve been wondering what exactly is the vintage horn
Your guess is as good as mine!

@@NotSkilledHere that's the assumption, it's an exam instrument
