    Great to see a new video from you and to see Miles unveil his banjo playing. Is there no end to his talents! Just wondering if there’s any FIDRA gin left on Hiraeth? Millport bay has changed a lot since you were here last summer.

      Thanks, glad you enjoyed the banjo and no definitely no Gin left as it’s was far to nice to not drink.
      We heard a lot of work has been going ahead in the bay over winter. We will be sailing over in a few weeks to check it out so maybe see you then 👀

    As a newbie skipper looking to buy my first boat and having watch a lot of TH-cam channels I have to say I find your style inspirational and instructional, the video and audio commentary of sea state and how to set/adjust rigging (eg preventer) is the best that I have come across combined with the nature filming aspect is a pleasure to watch - well done and thank you.

      Thanks for taking the time to leave your nice comment, if we can inspire just one person to leave the dock to explore it’s worth our effort.
      Good luck with buying the new boat. We hope you get out sailing soon and keep learning as you go.
      We try to continue learning new ways to do things, as the more ways you know, the more informed your decision becomes. You also have more options if you need to adapt to a situation or things go wrong.

    What boat speed with 25knots? Nice sailing thru island,usually lots of sail changes as winds shift😅

    Cuan sound... having read all the navigation notes, we avoided it. didnt even consider using the horth end as an anchorage.

    How do you like your Saturn sails

    • @SailingHiraeth
      @SailingHiraeth  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The service and quality from Saturn is unbeatable.
      The only thing we don’t like are the blocks on reefs the main sail, the sail gets pulled into them when reefing and they are too chunky. We are looking at replacing them with a low friction ring system.

    Was watching you from ashore yesterday - what was that manouevre you were up to with the anchor before finally dropping it? - just curious! - Martin

    • @SailingHiraeth
      @SailingHiraeth  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi there Martin.
      We're still here, so say hello if you see us.
      The wind was only very light at the time we anchored, but the forecast was for it increase to around 30kts over night.
      So, we set the anchor in the opposing direction to that predicted wind not the then current wind direction. Unfortunately the first time we dropped it, we were not able to let enough chain out without potentially hitting a dubiously place buoy in the middle of the allocated anchorage (the little red one). That's why we pulled anchor, circled around to re-test the depth 50m to the west and re-set the hook there. Without any danger of hitting any of the mooring buoys if we swung around.
      This might seem like some faff. But, I'm inherently lazy and I don't enjoy getting out of bed at 0300 to move an anchor because I couldn't be bothered scoping It out properly first time.

      @@SailingHiraeth Many thanks for this Miles - have only just seen it - very interesting! - we are in Pier House 1 - the left-hand of the pair of semi-detached cottages on the bay - am also intrigued by where you were going when you rowed ashore - just being nosey!
