    I love this! it’s actually funny I don’t even try to eat anti-inflammatory but my body has just been drawn to it for years now. I prefer leafy greens, brown rice, fish, sushi, poke, salads, ceviche, avocado and eggs too. I need to try the tofu spring rolls! My favorite drinks are water with lemon or beet juice. I have a pressed beet juice obsession. I always feel great after drinking it 😊

      Yes, I feel like the term "anti-inflammatory diet" gets brought up so much, but it really is just a diet centered around whole foods! Such a good way to eat for overall health, longevity and energy! Beet juice is amazing, I wish I had a juicer to make fresh juices!

Try to cook lightly ,like blanch or steam, to make it more easily dugestible. Also include a source of healthy fat with greens so that the fat soluble vitamins A,E,K can be absorbed n utilised by the body

      Hi! Welcome to the channel, I am so happy to have you here!
      I am so glad you are taking a food-focused approach to your health!
      Chosen Foods: Avocado oil is excellent! That is the one I use!
      For olive oil, I use the Terra Delyssa Extra Virgin Olive Oil ( I like it because it is organic, non-GMO, cold pressed, Extra virgin, comes in a dark glass container and is 100% Olive oil. Some other good brands are Partanna and Paesanol.
      But really, when you are buying olive oil, there are a few things you want to look for:
      Look for extra virgin olive oil/cold-pressed oil (this oil is made from the first pressing of olives without the use of heat or chemicals). Check the Harvest Date (High-quality olive oil should have a harvest date or "best by" date printed on the label. ) Packaging (Olive oil is sensitive to light, heat, and air, which can degrade its quality over time) I recommend olive oils that come in dark colored glass bottles or opaque containers. I also recommend avoiding ones that come in plastic containers.
      I know that was long, but hopefully, it gives you an idea of what to look for in case you can't find specific brands.💚

    Are you adding raw or cooked tofu to your salads (Thursday specifically)? And is it true that nuts/seeds are best eaten in their raw state due to roasting disrupting their oils?

    • @drclairelockridgend
      @drclairelockridgend  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So I batch prep my tofu, I will season it and bake it. The tofu I used on Thursday was bakes with tamari, garlic and maple syrup. I will add it to my salad cold. Although you can eat tofu uncooked, I generally like to cook it first, even if I will eat it cold.
      In terms of the nuts, raw nuts generally have more nutrients because they haven't been exposed to high heat during the roasting process, which can degrade certain vitamins and minerals. However health benefits of consuming roasted nuts typically outweigh the nutrients lost in the cooking, so I still think they are a great option! Just keep an eye out for what they are roasted in/ seasoning/ ect...
      Hope that helps!

      Hey! So I really don't have too much will power (and I don't think it is necessary for a healthy lifestyle!). Over many years I have made systems and habits in my life to support my health!
      If I was starting from where you are I would write out 4-5 health habits I want to do (ie. high protein breakfasts, gym 3 times per week, ect...). Pick one and focus on that habit. Once you feel you are doing that consistently you can add another. The biggest mistake I see people make is that they try to do everything all at one (and of course it is too much)!

    • @drclairelockridgend
      @drclairelockridgend  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      The relationship between caffeine and inflammation is nuanced, and there are a lot of factors at play!
      Matcha does have less caffeine than coffee and is a good source of antioxidants. I would also ask why they told you to cut out the caffeine (we know that caffeine impacts women with PCOS though a number of mechanisms). The biggest thing to consider as well is what you are consuming your matcha with (milks/ sugars/ ect...).
      There are also a ton of great non caffeinated teas that have a lot of antioxidant benefit. Including ones that have specifically been shown to improve symptoms in women with PCOS!

    • @drclairelockridgend
      @drclairelockridgend  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Ohh, I have not given much thought to the environmental impact of avocados (thanks for bringing it up!)
      The main reason I eat avocados is that they are high in MUFAs, fibre, vitamins, and minerals!
      Including lots of EVOO, flax seed oil (not heated), nuts, and seeds can be good sources of healthy fats. Lots of fruit and vegetables will be good for fibre, vitamins, and minerals!
      If you are looking for something to replace the texture of avocados, I like using tahini or hummus when I need a creamy component to a dish!

    I recently found your channel and I can't get enough. I live in a part of the southern US that does not have access to any naturopathic doctors and I wonder if such a physician could help me. I am an older women with multiple issues including neuropathy ( I'm not diabetic or pre-diabetic ) FIbromyalgia, IBS and depression and anxiety and early COPD ( I never smoked). I have tried to follow a gluten free diet and then a Keto diet and after having breast cancer and chemo 24 years ago I find myself hesitant to use herbal remedies for fear that they might over stimulate estrogen in my body and create a recurrence of my cancer. I am at my lowest point right now with body pain, foggy brain ( gabapentin for neuropathy), horrible digestive issues and complete exhaustion. I don't know where to begin to help myself. Doctors just want to pump me full of drugs and offer little or no help in giving me any hope for a more normal life. I do walk almost every day ( usually for about 45-60 mins) but lately the pain that I experience afterwards almost makes me not want to go. I try to do upper body exercises but they often make my pain worse and that lasts for days and days. I don't know what to do. I am afraid that in another year I will be unable to do anything I love. Many of the things I used to do I find I am no longer able to comfortably participate in . My immediate family is not understanding and really do not offer a lot of comfort or support. They are tired of my constant health issues. Many of my friends have fallen away. I became isolated during the pandemic for fear that if I got COVID it would be impossible to recover from. I am still uncomfortable in crowds and restaurants and therefor do not go out socially very much. I will continue to watch your videos in hopes that I will find some really good information that will help me recover my life. I do eat well with lots of vegies , some fruit, lean meat( mostly chicken and salmon) , salads ( too many raw vegies is hard on my digestive system) , organic eggs and flax seeds, nuts, pumpkin seeds etc. Thank you for posting all your videos , I really am grateful for your valuable information.

I am so sorry to hear about the struggles that you have been having with your health, but at the same time I am so inspired that you are continuing to try and take action to move your health in the right direction! Yes, it seems like you have many concerns, and I do really think you would benefit from seeing an ND! Depending on the state you live in there may be NDs practicing, even if it not a "licensed state" (aanmc.org/licensure/).

    Claire what are your thoughts on fats causing insulin resistance as many of the plant based Dr. say more than 20-30 grams a day should be the limit. So many different views out there.

    • @drclairelockridgend
      @drclairelockridgend  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Hey! So I think its important to remember that not all fats are the same. The source and the processing of fats matter too! Things like cold pressed EVOO, avocado, nuts and seeds are going to be a lot different than a lot of fats we eat today! I also think it important to think about what we are eating the fats with! Insulin resistance is defiantly a very interesting topic, and the nutrition advice can be very confusing. I'm planning to make more videos about the topic!

    What olive oil do you use?

    • @drclairelockridgend
      @drclairelockridgend  หลายเดือนก่อน

      For olive oil, I use the Terra Delyssa Extra Virgin Olive Oil ( I like it because it is organic, non-GMO, cold pressed, Extra virgin, comes in a dark glass container and is 100% Olive oil. Some other good brands are Partanna and Paesanol.
      Really with olive oil you just want to look for: extra virgin olive oil/cold-pressed oil (this oil is made from the first pressing of olives without the use of heat or chemicals).

    Hi Claire, thank you for your content. The fact that you have quality content for free goes to show how much you just want people to be well.
    This is really bothering me and I just wanted to ask someone. Shouldn’t all doctors use holistic therapies? What’s the difference between a naturopathic doctor and a general GP. Oh I’m in Australia so we call just a doctor you would go to if you are sick a GP. You might there too.
    Also, when you decided to study how did you choose this path. Why wouldn’t every doctor want to choose the holistic path.
    Thanks for your time 😊

    • @drclairelockridgend
      @drclairelockridgend  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you so much for the sweet comment!
      Okay, this is going to be a long response because I can talk forever about this!
      All doctors SHOULD use holistic therapy; however, health care currently is not set up for that. I am licensed in Ontario, and in Canada, health care is run by the provincial governments (in Ontario, health care is known as OHIP). The system only allocates 15 minutes for visits with people's GP, and are often limited to 1 concern per visit. More time is needed for a holistic approach.
      I do not work in the OHIP system. Patients pay out of pocket to see me or use private insurance, which means they have a lot more time. My initials are 90 minutes, and follow-ups are 30-60 minutes. This means I have plenty of time to address multiple concerns, educate the patient, and discuss lifestyle and diet changes in depth!
      The main difference between an MD and an ND is our education. NDs have a lot more nutrition and lifestyle training, and we are educated in botanical medicine and nutraceuticals that are not part of MD training. We also have some training in pharmacology. On the other hand, MDs have extensive training in pharmacology and are amazing at treating acute conditions. Both have an important role in the health care system.
      I hope that answers the question; let me know if anything needs to be clarified!
      I chose to be an ND in my last year of undergrad. I was going to be a nurse ( I wanted to connect with patients), but after looking more into it, it wasn't a good fit for me. I wanted to make more of an impact on the preventative side! I learned about Naturopathic doctors, toured a few schools, and knew it was for me!💚

I also like to eat eggs because they are very high in choline!

      My husband, aunt and I all recovered from IBS with the Fodmap diet. I managed with just with the Monash fodmap app and my husband had my prior experience to help. My aunt needed a nutritionist to help her reintroduce foods, which was the support she needed to recover. It's essentially a reintroduction diet (that is often used with allergens) - monitoring symptoms when trying different foods by themselves and also trying smaller portions. The elimination and reintroduction happens while eating a broader range of foods not affected by the fodmap. It is a temporary diet and eventually almost, if not all foods can be reintroduced. If you haven't tried it, it can be a life-changer! I think the stats are that 3 out of 4 people improve. The diet was developed scientifically in Australia at Monash University. I don't know if this will help, but very best wishes to you!
