What would you like to see in a updated version of the s5iix?
4k/60, 4k/120, photo/video-switch, faster start-up-time
@@HarRy-gc7nz I love it
s1h version ^^
@@JonackFilm 😳

Good job, son. I love you- mom
Thanks mom ❤️
Wow! What an experience! So happy for you!
I am new to the scene of videography (1 year in) and after much research I decided on the S5iiX. I am absolutely blown away with the capabilities of this camera. I still have much to learn but I am very happy with my purchase.
Nice! Good choice!
Ya, me too bought one lumix s5iix today, and even the price dropped because of the black friday.. so won some bucks for sd card :D so excited to use it, and a littlebit scared beccause its my first pro camera.. :)
thanks for the follow up vid! these mean more to me than the initial ones haha
Awesome! I’m glad it could help
Loving mine! Well done!
Thanks dude! Loving mine as well!
Thanks! Finally got hold of the base S5ii on sale with a free 14-28.
Nice! Welcome to the fam
Love the video. Would love to definitely see a false color like waveform function
False color would be fantastic with this camera
Hey Anson! Great video once again! Kinda torn between the 2 cameras S5ii and S5iix - is it easier to live stream with the S5iix? Or do you think an s5ii would suffice? Mostly using the camera for music videos/green screen stuff and live streaming. And we're coming from a GH6...
Great video as always mate! Funny to see some pulsing in the background at 3:18 😅
Oh man you found my hidden negative hahaha I had recorded the talking head part of my review and then went on that shoot and realized the AF still struggles and so I decided to put that clip in there with the line “it’s not perfect”. It definitely still has a way to go for me to use it in certain settings
@@Ansonandco Ahahah, don't worry! It's something that I see everywhere online...but I'm pretty sure the developers can fix it with a FW update. The PDAF dedicated pixels are in the sensor, so it's just a matter of optimization of the AF algorithm. Cheers! 🍻
@@LucaBono.Studio cheers! Have you moved over to the new blackmagic cam?
@@AnsonandcoNo, I'm still busy with buying the perfect set of Leica R lenses and a set Kowa B&H 😂
I generally rent the production cameras (Mavo Edge 8k/Arri LF/Red Komodo) depending on the project and budgets...it's easier 😅
@@LucaBono.Studio nice!
Sick video bro! I would give an arm and a leg for built in false color inside this camera. Love the footage you got from the trip man!
Thanks dude! Also same about false color!
I recently bought the S5iix with the kit lens, it's a great camera so far, although I don't like the kit lens - I'm looking to go with some cinelenses possibly NiSi Athena as they have L-mount. I liked your observations and pretty much agree with everything you've said. Subbed.
Nice! Yeah the kit lens is a decent lens but nothing to write home about. I am actually working with Nisi now to review some of their L mount lenses. Hopefully should have a video within the next month
@@Ansonandco nice - looking forward to the videos. I find my g9 with my primes looks better sadly, so I’m putting it down to the lens - was tossing between the NiSi lenses and go in big or try out the 18mm S Prime. Anyway, I’ll keep following your work. Thanks for the video.
@@BuildMontage thanks for watching!
I know it’s a workaround, but I actually picked up the Caleb Pike LUMIX luts a while back and use the false color lut from that pack in the camera. Not as easy as having it built in, but use it with a custom button to switch from it to a standard lut and you’re golden👌🏻
How accurate is it? I wouldn’t mind it, but doesn’t it also mean that your viewing LUT is the false color LUT and to use a custom LUT you have to go into the menus?
@@Ansonandco I’ve found it it be pretty spot on. It’s my go to for exposing weddings. It does make your viewing lut the false color lut. But I set a custom button on my S5 to switch my view lut really fast. So I just dial in my exposure, then use the one button to switch to a rec709 lut. I highly recommend it, and I think it’s only like $10 for the pack
That’s genius. Great workaround.
that apple shot is making me uncomfortable haha - this is a great breakdown - i'm right there with you on the open gate for sure, i shoot a ton in open gate and probably is my main workflow. i'm definitely gonna use x pan more especially with the tilt shift lens. now that i watched your vid i'm gonna go find my journey and embrace life and get some biscuits and gravy. ✌
Hahaha dude the apple shot is EPIC! Dude open gate is the reason I don’t shoot raw with the X, as you lose it in raw modes. I think even in pro res modes.
Bro I would LOVE some biscuits and gravy right about now 😂
@@Ansonandco i'll send a pic of the biscuits and gravy haha
@@CalebHoover only in X pan! Lol
Just got mine last week and it's easily the best mirrorless camera I've ever used. I'm probably gonna offload my two S5 bodies and get a S5ii to go with it.
Nice dude! Yeah I love working with it. I still often prefer the image on the fp but for certain of my projects the iix is perfect
@@Ansonandcolove both of them
@@ericcoen8894 I’m trying to give them equal love. It’s hard. I shoot with one and love it - proceed to only shoot with it and then shoot with the other and it shifts. It’s like trying to pick your favorite child lol
@@Ansonandco you can record B-raw with BMD video assist on both of them. you may want to make another video about it
The LUMIX s5ii x is my first ever camera. Getting it tomorrow. 📸
Nice! Congrats!
Great Video! What an incredibly impressive reel! I'm currently using the GH5 and looking to upgrade to a new full-frame camera. I'm torn between the S5iix and the FX3. Do you think the extra cost for the FX3 is worth it? I’ve watched several footage videos from both cameras on TH-cam, especially in the music video genre, and I find Sony’s look much more modern and cinematic.
If it were me I would go s5iix but it depends on preference ultimately
I use the OG S5 so I am sure this is a keeper.
now I want one! oh hang on ... I have one and I LOVE it too. My main camera for pretty much everything
Yessir! Lumix bros for life!
I miss my Panasonic looks...I upgraded from my S1H to the C70 only because of the better auto focus and built in ND but if the S1H Mark II end up have both of those features I'm going right back.
We will welcome you back with open arms 😉
There are free false color LUTs for Vlog out there that were originally designed for the S1H. They work on the s5iix but I haven't had the time to test their accuracy for the moment. I wish we had El zone though! Considering they have it on the varicam, maybe one day we'll get it...
That was my exact feedback to lumix when I was with them last week. It’s in the varicam, why can’t we put it in the smaller cams?
@@AnsonandcoAnd what did they answer? Also generally speaking i am really curious wether they listen to your feedback and try to fix things like this. They should bring an update to all Lumix S, cameras also the old S5, with more exposure tools!
It’s the most complete mirrorless camera at the price point of £2000. I have now fully invested in the lumix system and so much so that I even bought a G9 II.
Nice! It’s a great system. I am fully invested in the lumix and sigma systems
I love my S5iix. I may pick up a second body next year depending on the projects I end up doing. 5.8k ProRes HQ is unstoppable.
Oooooooh I need to try 5.8k pro res. I stay away from anything that doesn’t do open gate cause I love it so much
@@Ansonandcoit’s truly a content making machine. I’m blown away that it’s only in the middle rung of Panasonic hybrids. When they come out with the S1H ii or even Eva 1 mkii Panasonic will be hard to not recommend for media companies. I’m fully in the Canon cinema camera ecosystem but it would be hard to ignore.
@@kevinbatts2804 dude if they made an update to the Eva line I will lose my mind
The lack of stabilization was honestly one of, if not, THE main reason i let go of my FP. As small and amazing of a little cinema camera that the FP is, the lack of ibis of any sort really made it un-run-n-gun-able lol. (That and the rolling shutter wassnt hot either) i didnt even have an issue with the non exisistent auto focus. I pray if they make some sort of 3rd installment, that they include some sort of stabilization. Even digital would be fine with me. Same form factor. Heck I'd be cool with 12 megapixels too! Thatd be cool!
Honestly the FP is not run and gun IMO. I rig up my FP for stabilization and it’s a great form factor for rigging but yeah if you want a minimal stabilized set up, it is not that. Agreed
I hope LUMIX have 28-200 lens soon, I really love the color of the pics, but sony a7-4 with tamron 28-200 maybe the best way to normal traveling.
🤣for the poor guys like me
I bought the S5ii without X a few months ago too, and I'm really really happy with it. But I noticed actually a lot or Moiré issues on 6k open gate.. I heard it was way better on APS-C mode but that can't be the solution?
Usually moire is better in some cameras when it’s cropped. But I’ll be honest I don’t really pay attention to it. I’ve seen some big shows have moire in them and so if it’s not a deal breaker for bigger productions, I am not gonna stress about it too much
What all around variable lens is your go to for this camera? Also, does the camera have a s35 crop mode?
Hands down SIGMA 24-70 f2.8 DG DN. It lives on my camera and only comes off mostly when I want to use the new 70-200mm from sigma.
It does! You can force it into crop mode anytime other than in open gate. Some modes force the crop, but regardless it does have a crop mode
how about the moire?
Debating on dropping the S5II for the BMCC6k... wanting to get BRAW so badly but I just dont want to keep the S5II cause of the overall digital sharpness of the imagery T_T the OLPF is a MUST HAVEEE
Do you feel like the s5ii is too sharp? I personally will not own another BMD camera do to terrible quality control, but that’s just me. Have you tried grading the s5ii with less
Sharpness and grain?
@@Ansonandco Honestly, I've toned down the mid/detail in resolve but it just shits on the overall IQ. I'm not sure if there's a good middle ground.
@@SouthboundProduction fair! Have you looked at the way Ed pressor grades his s5iix footage. I’ve been using it and am very pleased with the outcome
@@Ansonandco I’ll take a look! Send over a link
Maybe try blackmist filter or digitally Filmconvert Halation or dehancer if you have more money they get rid pretty much of the digital look...I have filmconvert and prefer it to filters in case the client don't like the soft not digital filmic look...so digitally.you are on the safe side.
Would you pick it over the fx3?
For most things yes, AF only slightly more would o recommend the fx3. Oh and rolling shutter is way better on the fx3
I think regular S5ii is great for me.
It’s great for most people, I fully am behind this choice
Hi, I have a major issue with the Lumix S5 II(x): the constant preview mode temporarily disables the preview of exposure settings (aperture and shutter speed) in M mode while auto-focusing in photo mode. That means, the exposure preview is constantly disabled while you are half-pressing the trigger in Continuous-AF (in photo) mode. While is the photographer waiting for the right moment, the preview of exposure is wrong, distracting, and showing different brightness. Sony cameras do not behave like this and I find it extremely annoying for Panasonic. Did I miss something in camera settings?
Are you taking a photo and it’s not accurate to your preview?
Love my s5ii but yeah i have exact same issue, it’s annoying!!
Let me understand it, do you mean when pressing half shutter screen darken or lighten up depending on the exposure? That is my problem, I’ve tried all the mode and still same thing, I believe that’s how all the lumix camera behave, hopefully they can let user disable it with firmware update!
@@alborzmont2860 Yes, that's it. Thank you. Now, I use AF-S mode more often than AF-C, but it is like a step back from Sony. But there are better features in Panasonic, for example, I love the way you can manually focus while shooting in AF mode. And the way you can choose which face or even an eye of your subject to focus on.
Good Bro
Thanks bro!
You are welcome bro@@Ansonandco
I like the camera but I have a problem the camera turn itself off and minutes turn on again.
I would definitely get that looked at or even exchange it
Make more content about this camera
Well good news, at LEAST the next couple weeks are planned s5iix videos 😉
I wish more cameras had SSD recording. I hate memory cards.
I’m the opposite! Lol I love this camera has dual SD and I can do most the things I want on it
Would you recommend the lumix 24-70mm f2.8?
I already own the 16-35mm f/4.
I would say if you already the 16-35, go for it, otherwise I would choose the sigma 24-70
@@Ansonandco now i’m thinking to sell the 16-35 f/4 and go for the sigma 16-28 f/2.8 and 28-70 f/2.8…
What are your thoughts on that?
@@ThePistonPit I am a fan of both of those lenses and it would make your set up lighter overall
@@Ansonandco thanks for your reply.
Would i be sacrificing a lot in terms of image quality and sharpness and auto focus if i were to go for the sigma?
@@ThePistonPit from what I’ve seen, I don’t think so
be really careful when buying this camera the autofocus is terrible. had to return mine for a sony. the menu is super slow, and slot card damages really easy.
Sucks they released two version of this camera. X features should just be in the S5ii. Don’t understand not having false colour 🤷🏻♂️
What about moirè effect? Is it big problem?
It’s going to a problem in most resolution beast cameras. I can’t say I notice it a ton but I’ve seen it occasionally
@@Ansonandco Thank you!
Pulsating auto focus and bad rolling shutter… Definitely a dealbreaker.
Autofocus should be fixed with the new FW. Rolling shutter is still a thing though hahaha but I’ll be honest, it’s better than blackmagic
Here are some of my biggest cons after 5 months of owning the S5IIX:
- No tally light (when you have no visibility to the camera screen, there's no signal that lets you know that you're recording)
- If you have an monitor plugged in, there is no more rec signal sound
- no 4K 50 FF
- no option to choose the HDMI output resolution
The camera downconverts all 33x LUTs to shitty 17x for monitoring with V-Log and other profiles.. which adds TONS or banding and macro-blocking artifacts.
When using RealTimeLUT (most of us don't), the camera preview the LUT in full 33x resolution... and it looks 100x better (no artifacts).
If you guys don't believe me, try V-Log with a LUT, then RealTimeLUT with the same LUT... and notice the difference.
Please LUMIX, this is so stupid and has to be addressed..
Monitoring the image with that much artifacts (especially in shadows, but it's all over the place) makes us doubt that there's enough light for a clean image.
NOT OKAY!
I haven’t noticed it that much. In fairness even Atomos does this. It’s super annoying. I feel the frustration for sure
@@Ansonandco The Blackmagic cameras don’t. Also, it doesn’t in RealTimeLUT so it means that’s possible, even with the actual processing power the camera has. Peer pressure could work ;)
LUMIX S5iiX Touch Screen ????
wAs It WoRtH iT
no one can't close sigma colors even arri alexa
This is true, if image quality is the highest priority I will shoot with the FP all day
Can you please sell your soul already so that we can get to 100K? I need more people to watch these videos, geez lol
Is that what I’ve been missing all this time?! ON IT! Hahaha appreciate you
I'm interested in all Lumixgear. The TH-cam algoritm found you. I was watching this video but the music (beat) is too distracting when listening to you talk. So i stopped watching...
Funny enough I thought about not using music this week. You are not the first person the comment. Probably will be the last cause I think it probably needs to be ditched. Thanks for the feedback
Hey man I would have some questions... I was about to buy a GH6 (don't own any mft nor full frame lenses) in order to shoot a documentary but then I saw an incredible offer for a used BMPCC6k. So I'm going for that, but I still want a Lumix as well. Does it make sense to go with the GH6 or the S5iix is a wiser investment? Because their price is basically one good lens apart... I don't even use autofocus and wanted the GH6 at first because of the CFslot (I really don't like shooting with SSD) but at this point I can shoot braw internally with the BlackMagick 6k and use sd v90 cards for the s5iix, there shouldn't be any more need for ProRes or expensive recorders... The full frame sensor could be helpful in good light. What do you think?
Tough question! Are you planning on using the lumix cameras as an A cam or B cam? I love the s5iix but it is hard to deny how much of a camera you are getting with the gh6, especially if you don’t need AF. The iix will definitely be better in low light with the FF sensor but also dual gain ISO. The stability on the gh6 will be better though. That is tough. Then you can even throw in the new g9ii which has a lot of the gh6 features AND phase detect AF… I think it just comes down to preference for the scenarios you’ll be shooting in
