    I got the s5 iix and was envious of the G9 II. So I bought the G9 II and now have both. I love the small le lenses of the MFT and the light weight! The IBIS and AF of G9 II is definitely superior to the S5 IIX and the 4k 120 is sweet.

      Is it the lens or is it the ff sensor that make subject pop more ? I feel like the S5II have more microcontrast/dimension, Id really love to have your opinion as you have the twos

    Pretty in-depth and nice sample clips as well! The first comparison clips actually surprised me a bit because I couldn't really see any more details in the branches. Probably slightly different lighting though. Just some quick notes (sorry):
    4:22 - the G9ii can do 300FPS in 1080p, not "only" 240. When it comes to external RAW though, Sean sounded pretty definitive when he said the G9ii is not getting it.
    6:46 - The G9ii supports more subjects (cars, motorcycles, more animals I think) for subject detection AF. I expect this to be only temporary though.
    12:46 - what do you mean by that? I don't think DRB has any (negative) impact in low light.
    13:23 - One thing the G9ii brings is corner warping correction in its e-stabilisation modes, which is a massive benefit. But again, probably coming to the S5i(x)
    Also one thing of note - rolling shutter.
    Overall, not bad for a supposedly photo-focused camera, haha.

    • @MatthewDangyou
      @MatthewDangyou  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks! And technically yes it can do 300fps in S&Q but you do lose sound I believe when recording in it so I personally avoid it😂
      Good mention! Yeah I left it out since I assume a firmware update is around the corner.
      And the stabilization is amazing that can be a whole video in itself!

  • @solarion33
    @solarion33 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I"m very tempted with the g9ii or an eventual GH7 because the sensor read speed is so good and smooth which really complement the stabilization system . I can't say I care that much about dynamic range as I don't plan on shooting the sky but mostly indoors for event type stuff .. so only low light performance is an issue for me at this stage..
    of course If Panasonic can bring this kind of sensor readout speed with the full dynamic range of full frame and low light performance with their stabilization ( and even a Gyro like the g9ii has) and everything else ... that would be a real workhorse for me , but I'm still tempted by m43

    I had a G9 that I loved but was tired of the autofocus and was really trying to figure out if I want the s5ii or g9ii. A very good offer on a s5ii with 20-60 kit lens + 50/1.8 made me go for the s5ii and boy do I love it. I am happily surprised that the ibis seems as good as the old G9. Awsome camera. The biggest surprise for me has been on the photo side, the jpegs out of the S5ii looks so darn good that I don't even shoot raw anymore (I hate editing raws anyway) which was never possible for me with the old G9.
    Does G9ii jpegs look as good as S5ii jpegs with the standard picture profiles?
    My main gripe with the G9 was always that it was a bit chunky for a m43 camera, I really hope panasonic releases a gx9ii with pdaf. Meanwhile I am trying to find an Olympus e-m5 iii for a good price on the second hand market because I am never going back to cdaf and I really crave that small body.

    I recently bought the S5iix for a feature documentary that I am shooting. But I am coming from a micro 4/3 practice. I started shooting my films with a GH4. Slowly it became a professional project and I upgraded to a full frame environment following the advice of a DP. But it's been 20 days that I am shooting with my new S5iix and I had to entirely change my approach as far as depth of field is concerned and especially focusing either with a sigma lens or vintage Nikon lenses. I shoot manually and mainly handheld and I had a hard time at first setting focus when I shoot 2 ppl in a same room interacting with each other at different distances from my camera..Or people moving around in a room or walking up to me in corridor etc.. Now I am getting better at it but I still miss my GH4. It was lighter and a I was working with a larger area where things and ppl are in focus.. I don't know if I am clear. So a friend of mine told me I might be be better to switch to a G9ii. Zoom lenses are lighter (and cheaper) and it might suit my run and gun style of shooting needs better (even if I shoot mainly in intimate settings but i largely improvise and capture reality as it goes around me). I need to be fast and ready to shoot. I feel the S5iix with a sigma 24-70 is quite heavy when I shoot handheld (sometimes 40 min-1H in a row). I get back aches etc.. What do you think of the G9ii vs S5iix for this type of need? I get that the depth of field and blurry backgrounds of the full frame looks nice, but in a documentary my priority is to get my focus right on the characters talking and moving mainly in daytime (even if sometimes I shoot night stuff) and I need to move swiftly and smoothly. I also hear it best suits the need of photographers rather than filmmakers. What is your take on that?

    • @MatthewDangyou
      @MatthewDangyou  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great question! Couple options for you would be get a speed booster and use like ef lens on the G9ii to keep it little more light weight but get closer to the bokeh on the Full frame. But honesty sounds like the G9ii with MFT lenses if you prefer the lighter weight might be your best option. I personally love heavier rigs and will do fullframe all day now since the quality and low light performance is superb

      @@MatthewDangyou Thanks a lot for your reply! I think I am going to stick with the full frame as I am getting better at it. You meant Leica lenses on the G9? Confused as to why the G9ii clips all had the highlights blown and only some of the S5, or is that the takeaway? Is it possible the ISO was under 500 so the dynamic range boost was off, or is that just as good as it gets?

    • @MatthewDangyou
      @MatthewDangyou  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      probably human error tbh😅 shooting all this on my own can make simple mistakes. But I did try to make the settings the exact same, the ND on the same level, and match everything as close as possible. The color grade settings are the same as well but you can probably do most post work to recover highlights but it felt a little unfair to correct one camera more than the other one so I left them as extremely basic grades

    In m43 isn’t the doubling of the F stop a myth? A light meter does not ask you the sensor size to determine the aperture? A 2.8 on MFT I believe is not a 5.6 FF. The focal length is doubled but not the fstop

    • @MatthewDangyou
      @MatthewDangyou  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      It is based on the distances from the camera. Technically if you made the subject distances closers to the micro 4/3 camera this image would look the same in terms of the bokeh. But when you place both objects next to each other the bokeh would be different. So the aperture would still be an F2.8 but would it would look like an F5.6 the light is still the f2.8 but the bokeh is like if it was a F5.6

    • @anotherintrospekt6596

      @@MatthewDangyou does that mean the fullframe isn’t necessarily better in low light?

    • @MatthewDangyou
      @MatthewDangyou  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @anotherintrospekt6596 sort of! It can be depending the lenses but the other big factor though is that full frame in higher iso tends to look much cleaner than MFT. So if you used an F1.8 on both cameras at 4000 iso well the full frame camera will look much better because of the dual native iso and more light hitting more of the sensor. The biggest advantage what I mentioned earlier that this brings is for product and macro videos. To allow more light but get less depth is amazing for product videos

    @ShinyTechThings 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The 24-70 2.8 full frame VS the MFT lens is NOT an accurate comparison. Yes teh focal length of 12-35 from MFT is 24-70 equiv on full frame but you also have to multiply the f stop by 2 as well makign it a full frame equivlent of a 24-70mm f5.6 lens. Most people don't consider this when buying MFT cameras because people just don;t know you need to multiply everything times your crop factor. I have the 10-25mm f1.7 so that's basically a 20-50mm f3.4 on full frame. It is a nice lens but dependign in what you are shooting full frame might be better but it might not. I'll eventually do a comparison video showing this between sensor sizes. What would be nice is if Panasonic would let you adapt MFT to their full frame and then crop the sensor like how Sony's E-Mount works with APS-C lenses on full frame. If Panasonic would have released a higher resolution sensor for the S5 II I probably would havee bought that instead of a used Sony A7RIVa but WOW is that a camera. Sure the video IBIS isn't Panasonic level but I still have my GH5. The only thing I dislike about full frame is the price and weight of the lenses.

      true true, you do get the light of an f2.8 though even though the DOF may be a 5.6 which is nice for macro photography. They really don't have an exact replicate 24-70 f2.8 lens besides the 10-25mm 1.7 being closest to it. If they made a 12-35 f1.4 that would be the most ideal lens for comparison.

      F rating is a definition of the aperture. An F1.7 will be exposed at the same amount across ALL formats. The difference is in depth of field, which is what Matthew responded with. A lot of people actually like this about MFT as it gives them the same light as their full frame equivalents, but with more depth of field, which is why you see MFT used for wild life photography and others where that extra DOF per aperture can save a shot of a bird for instance. Full frame will always have that razor edge crazy bokeh due to this though.
      Here's a nice breakdown of it -
      "For metering, an f/1 lens is an f/1 lens no matter what size image circle it's designed for - aperture f-number is a PHYSICAL QUALITY of a lens like the focal length, so metering with an f/1 m43 lens will be the same as metering with an f/1 full frame lens.
      Now for depth of field, your 25mm f/1 m43 lens has the equivalent FoV of a 50mm lens on a full frame sensor. However, it still has the depth of field of a 25mm f/1 lens because DoF is a function of focal length, f-number, and focus distance. As it turns out, the DoF you get with a 25mm lens at f/1 on m43 is pretty close to the DoF of a 50mm lens at f/2 on full frame."

    M43 lens are not smaller, to produce the same image, M43 lens has to be 2 stops faster, which sometimes makes them even bigger than full frame lens.

      You mean same bokeh not image. You can simulate any bokeh in postproduction, as it is just throwing away information.

    I love Panasonic and MFT cameras......but I went FF.......WHY....
    BECAUSE......MFT simply cannot compete with the quality and low-light output due to the sensor size of FF cameras. .
    5 years ago, FF cameras and lenses were more than double MFT costs........but now----the G9II is the same size as FF....furthermore, I had the 10-25 leica lense and with that setup, size, and weight.......it was Basically almost the same size as a comparable FF, but yet with lower quality and any good photographers/videographers 📸 can tell and see the difference. If you experienced or a professional.........then why are you going to sink 4K with a new camera and lenses in 2023 when you can do the same for a FF setup??????? It makes no sense financially or from a common sense moving forward in 2023.
    Now, with all that being said, I've shot some amazing photos and videos with my GH5 since 2019; but with all that being said........if I had to do it ALL over again, i would've just went with FF.
    Panasonic will have to team up with OM systems and innovate a MFT system to be on par with lthe low-light quality and mega pixels count of at least 40 mega pixels......cause trying to crop freely with good quality from 26 mega pixels output is not optimal......especially in post editing.
    I just cannot see how Panasonic or OM Systems will survive against FF cameras....cause even the Camera Profesional industry is moving to FF too.
    Once again, I'm not trying to sound negative about MFT cameras......but buying MFT and lenses in 2023 doesn't personally or financially make any sense anymore.

      Wrong. I have seen m43 channels that produce content that looks way better that ff. M43 is alive and well.

    I have the GH6 and now the s5ii. I don't have the s5iix, it wasn't available at my local best buy store. They had the s5ii, I picked it up instead. Both of them have fans in it. Never overheats. The quality is insane on both. I use 4K60 10 bit 4:2:2 color chroma on it to get the colors to pop. I have to admit, the focusing is better on the s5ii, has the PDAF. When the GH7 comes out, it should have that in it. Who knows what else will be in it. Lets see when the s1hii comes out, it'll be crazy expensive, it'll have PDAF, probably, and more video features.

      For sure! Both are solid cameras! Do you have a preference in terms of Color on one camera over the other?

      @@MatthewDangyou they looked the same. The s5ii to me popped a little more. I was watching my workout video from the other day and I used that camera, straight out of the box, it looked like there was a little more pop shooting that 10 bit 4:2:2 C4K60 that I always shoot videos in.
