Your channel helped me decide on the Sigma fp the first time around and this video reinforces the purchase now. Also agree on wished for updates--especially the 4K DCI to SSD.

But after a few firmware updates, it is now an excellent camera. I’m glad I bought mine, and I am also glad I have the original OG.
The original reviews were kinda annoying. I got mine early on and it was already great for videos and stills. Sigma cameras always have a few annoying traits, but the image quality makes up for it. A lot of people were put off by the high RRP (including the reviewers). I got mine a lot cheaper
Excellent video. I own the Sigma FP-L and I use it as the main camera for my channel. I love the look and reliability. I get 3.5 hours continues recording in 4K 12bit RAW with NP-F550 battery attachment from DARK POWER LABS (no overheating).

Great video! I just started reading about the Fp and trying to find more info and reviews which led me to you channel, so thanks for these awesome videos! I'm still not sure whether to go for fp or fpl; people keep talking about the rolling shutter issue and since I can't try/test the camera where I currently live, I wanna ask you about that, is the fp more stable and doesn't have this rolling shutter issue? TIA
Thanks! I’ll be honest I never minded the rolling shutter from the FPL. It is better than some other cameras for sure. I do like the fp more for video, especially low light video. I think cost to value it is slightly the better camera.
Still rocking a pair of the fp and a Panasonic S1H. One of fp bodies is set up as my web cam daily, but gets pulled when i am heading out for a shoot. These got even better with the Kondor Blue handle that uses the sandisk pro blade drives. Working on getting all three cameras set up with those handles and drives.
Lovely image though the dynamic range is hit due to the line skipping or pixel binning( I forget which it is) that it does to achieve the 4k RAW from the 6k sensor. I believe most of the issues with the FP are hardware limitations not software. The color you can get from the DNG 12 bit is really pretty compared to the S5/S1 image from panasonic. The Panasonic sensor has noticeably more dynamic range though. Honestly the FP dynamic range is good enough, the biggest limitation is not having a good way to monitor the image. CINE EI helps a lot but I still like to see what my final image looks like.
@@Ansonandco I sold mine as it just didn't fit my workflow which is one that allows very little time. Still waiting on that perfect camera though the FX30 is doing the job for now. Sort of hate the image compared to Lumix however.
If you had to choose two (prime) lenses for the FP (one af stills lens, and/or one cine lens), which would you choose? (best bang-for-buck budget) I'm leaning towards Sigma DG DN 35/50mm, or DZO Vespid Prime 35/40/50mm. Would love the budget to stretch to the Sigma Cine Primes - maybe at a later date. Love to hear your thoughts. Thanks for all the information you have shared to date on the Sigma FP.
If you like the look of the sigma cines I would go with the older DG HSM art primes. Those are identical optics, the cines are rehoused. That said the DZO are not bad. I’m intrigued on what Nisi is doing with their Athena primes. I will be reviewing them in the next couple of weeks. Those would be my two go to right now if you want a cine lens.
I totally agree with you, even I do not own the FP or the FPL. If you are a passionate enthousiast, the launch of the FPL pulls down the price for the FP. Anywehere in social media you hear praises abaut the dynamic range and the smoth image quality in 12 bit. Productions for the net do not allways need 4K. So it s a great chance to aquire a second hand FP and using it and learning ...

Thanks for an informative overview. I wonder if you could recommend this camera for travel and gimbal work? Also, how good is the image quality in 4K/1080p in your opinion?
Bought mine last year and plan on adding another while using the PDMovie Autofocus for it for the gimbal. It does pretty well even though I shoot a lot of sports and fitness movement stuff, but the details that come out of it...plus using SlimRaw and Proxies make editing much easier!
I’ve debated on doing an exposure tutorial, the problem is half the time I am exposing the image by eye and doing a quick check with ELzone. It’s very unscientific hahaha

I’m actually going to start making some videos talking about the built in color profiles/film emulation that the camera has. First one comes out Monday
I was looking at the r8 as it is incredibly cheap for a full frame canon that shoots 4k 10 bit 4:2:2! I only shoot video and I’m just now hearing about this camera which happens to be cheaper than the r8. Do you think there would be any drawbacks to buying this instead as a mid experienced videographer?
Great rundown. Age is not an issue. Yes, the fp is still relevant. I went back to my Sigma dp1s and dp2s from 2010 for stills because of the way they render digital images. It is a nice organic look. I also use newer Sigma foveon cameras and the fp/fpL for higher iso, but the original Foveon sensor has something pleasing. For full frame and medium format analog film photography I use cameras that are 50 to 75 years old. For video I use my Sigma fp. So don't fear the release date of a camera
The only thing i want on my Sigma FP is a raw feed from the HDMI port not just to the Atomos NInja but all monitors so i can monitor exposure correctly and reliably. I have an Atomos Shinobi and it does have the PQ monitoring function but it's rendered useless because of the way the camera outputs video from the HDMI port.
I did. The pro was my main camera for a long time and even the 6k OG. It just depends on preference. The fp is not as studio ready but it has been way more reliable for me than the 6k pro was

I will never understand why all large dlsm have fixed evf. i love my flexible evf and that it is on the side. Its only strange when photographing vertically. 😅 my only wish for the fp 2 would be having an ibis. It has not even to be the latest and greatest but it would help a bit or some additional pixels around footage to stabilize it in post. That said i bought it in January 2020 before the start of the pandemic mostly for filming while traveling, but except at least 4 TB written to disk, nothing came to fruition. closest was last years trip to Japan. Now i now i suck at making look consistent between clips and just making photos removes the need for the external ssd.

@@Ansonandco Thanks for your reply! I think I'll go for the FP. Your videos really helped me decide. Thanks a ton!
@@fayed.untitled glad I could help!
you can't beat FP's image quality. I hope they will release all singing and all dancing new version next year
Still rocking a pair of the fp and a Panasonic S1H. One of fp bodies is set up as my web cam daily, but gets pulled when i am heading out for a shoot. These got even better with the Kondor Blue handle that uses the sandisk pro blade drives. Working on getting all three cameras set up with those handles and drives.
Can you use that handle with this? I thought this couldn’t record to SSD?
@trashbag8124 both record fine to an external drive. The FP can only do 4k 12 bit external.
Hi, how does the heat factor affect long-term shooting?
It hasn’t for me and I’ve shot podcasts on it
Lovely image though the dynamic range is hit due to the line skipping or pixel binning( I forget which it is) that it does to achieve the 4k RAW from the 6k sensor.
Yeah for that reason I use my s5iix on 90% of my projects and the fp is the camera I use for personal narrative projects and my TH-cam content.
@@Ansonandco I sold mine as it just didn't fit my workflow which is one that allows very little time. Still waiting on that perfect camera though the FX30 is doing the job for now. Sort of hate the image compared to Lumix however.
thank you for the information ;-)
Of course!
If you had to choose two (prime) lenses for the FP (one af stills lens, and/or one cine lens), which would you choose? (best bang-for-buck budget)
I'm leaning towards Sigma DG DN 35/50mm, or DZO Vespid Prime 35/40/50mm.
@@Ansonandco Thanks for the reply. Seems the Nisi Athena Primes are getting some good reviews here on YT.
Will u show the new 7artisans full frame cine lens? And maybe the magnetic gear from them
I am working with a third party to get my hands on the new 14mm. Unfortunately 7artisans turned me down for review
@@Ansonandco but fr there social media team sucks Instagram never got a response and even the support takes mostly more time then they promises a bummer the products are very good for that price in November every cine lens was under 400€ that's was great NGL
@@RealMilschmann I love working with them, I think their L mount option is scarce and so that’s why I got turned down. But usually they are super supportive
Best image out of pretty much anything within that price range. L mount allows easy adaptation for most lenses.
I agree, this is definitely one of my favorite images in a sub $6k camera
Thanks for an informative overview. I wonder if you could recommend this camera for travel and gimbal work? Also, how good is the image quality in 4K/1080p in your opinion?
i like the camera but hate that it doesnt have any kind of optical stabilization...
If you use sigma lenses and shoot in non raw it does actually offer electronic stabilization, it’s not great but it’s something
you are right to be honest but it crops in tho...
@@pitrochied yeah I do think it crops in a bit. I’ll be honest I never notice but I also rarely use it
Bought mine last year and plan on adding another while using the PDMovie Autofocus for it for the gimbal. It does pretty well even though I shoot a lot of sports and fitness movement stuff, but the details that come out of it...plus using SlimRaw and Proxies make editing much easier!
Dude I just checked out your channel. I love your work! Great representation of what the fp can do. Also yes slimraw is a game changer 🤘🏻
Good info. I wonder does it show focus peaking lines when you are recording video? So that moving subjects can be tracked easily?
I might have missed a video about the aspect ratio. I just tried creating the vertical guide lines but wasn't successful. How do you do it?
You have to set custom frame guides and since you can only use single digits for the back half, I put in 5:1 which is close enough to 9:16.
@@Ansonandco thank you so much! This is really helpful!
Do you have a tutorial on how to use El zone? As im still confused on how to use it😅. It would be dope if you made one if you haven't.
I’ve debated on doing an exposure tutorial, the problem is half the time I am exposing the image by eye and doing a quick check with ELzone. It’s very unscientific hahaha
@Ansonandco just doing a follow up on the tutorial lol. How's it coming along 😅 and how did u activate the dual guide lines? I meant to ask that last time
Thanks for all your videos, which 3D pop lens (35mm) could you recommend for FP or FP/L, i love the organic colors of the sensor and the raw workflow for video with DVR , but im' looking a good lens 35mm with a tone of micro contrast for 3D Look like leica lenses but less expensive..
Thanks for your work
Hey thanks! I just reviewed the Nisi Athena cine primes, which have pretty decent micro contrast. That may be what I would recommend for that look. Check out the review on my channel. The initial review is all shot on the fp
The best performing video on my channel is about this camera. People are gonna be mad when I tell them all the quirky things I had to deal with.
I mean that’s a part of finding if a camera is for you. Are you able/willing to get past the quirks or nah? I have, but that’s me. God speed good sir with that video 😂
@@Ansonandco I’ll make it funny. It won’t be so bad haha

Is it true that we can shoot in iso 12800 with decent noise?
I’ve HEARD this but I tried it out and I definitely had noise on my shot
can you please tell if it records good video without raw? many people on yt say that if u dont use the raw mode videos are quite bad... i dont personally colour correct everything i record..
I’m actually going to start making some videos talking about the built in color profiles/film emulation that the camera has. First one comes out Monday
subscribed indeed❤
@@pitrochied nice! Welcome!
WE WANT THE BLACK & WHITE MONOCHROME GRADING WORK FLOW,. PLEASE
How do you stabilize footage? Currently using an old Canon ef 24-105 but it's heavy.
I like the color mode of Powder Blue.
It’s a very good one for sure
Its still magic
Right?! My thoughts exactly!
GRACIAS
Impressive cinema camera. I just added the blackmagic design video assist 12 G for recording BRAW.
I have an Atomos Shinobi and it does have the PQ monitoring function but it's rendered useless because of the way the camera outputs video from the HDMI port.
switch to sigma fp if u have bmpcc 6k ?
I did. The pro was my main camera for a long time and even the 6k OG. It just depends on preference. The fp is not as studio ready but it has been way more reliable for me than the 6k pro was
@@AnsonandcoInteresting. In what ways is it more reliable than the pocket 6K? What problems did you encounter with the pocket?
@@dimitris.tsakalas I had power cycle issues and the tech support with BMD kept on saying nothing was wrong and charged me to ship it in every time I did. It got expensive for a non issue
Still my kinda of ”dream” camera. Hope to be able to pick one up in 2024 😃
My fp died after using it for two mouth. It just wouldn’t turn on. I only used the dark power lab dummy battery side handle. I did love everything about the camera tho.
Oh no! Have you reached out to SIGMA for service?
What voltage of NPF battery were you using 7.4v?
@@Ansonandco i have, but i have not sent it
Can you actually record 12-bit CDNG raw at 100 fps in FHD to an ssd? or the 100fps raw is at 8-bit? Thanks
Full 12bit DNG glory
@@Ansonandco Awesome! Just one more question. Does it have an OLPF and ir-cut filter? Cheers :))
@@tubeman1983 I BELIEVE an IR cut filter but no OLPF
Looking for fpL discount somewhere to join the sigma family
If you had been looking like 3 months ago I sold mine for pretty cheap. Have you looked on places like mpb.com?
recently bought second hand body for 740$ and i am happy
I'll keep the fp until FF foveon comes out next year
You think it will be FF? 🤔 interesting
the FP (L) is still worth every penny - the great dynamic range itself is still unrivaled - and for that price an excellent 61 mp sensor...
If it had a mechanical shutter (or a MUCH faster readout speed), I might have gotten one.
These transitions you insert every other second are eye damaging and totally unnecessary. After 1:14 I just had to give up and stop watching.
What this sigma camera needs is updates apart from sigma FpL... 😊
I wish people wold stop referring to their videos as "content" and to themselves as "content creators". To me those terms read lke "time fillers" and "time filler generators". Have some self respect. You're doing tutorials, reviews, and other worthwhile material, and you do it really, really well. You're not delivering "content".
Fair points! I think it’s a word that we all understand, but I appreciate the call out. I think I’ve tried over the last year or so to disassociate the negativity around content creation. To me it’s liberating because I can make whatever I want and not be fenced in to one specific thing. But again, I appreciate the good word ✌🏻
@@Ansonandco I understand having a catch-all term can be useful. But there's another one that doesn't, to quote Hannobal Lecter, "feel like sucking on a greasy coin". TH-camr. You're a youtuber. The sigma fp was a great camera, but it's time to say goodbye to it. And the reason for this is its high cost on the secondary market. They are asking about $1000 for it. This is a good chance to change it to a Lumix S5 for $800, buy an external recorder for it and shoot raw open gate 6k

Nope. Sigma has the worst customer service I've ever experienced and exorbitant fees. My fp L had a hardware failure in 2 years. Leaving them, never recommending them, and not looking back.
Interesting, I’ve always had success with them. But sorry to hear that
