Hey, you can't list Danny Elfman's many credits without also mentioning that he was the lead singer/songwriter for Oingo Boingo. Give the man his flowers. 😃
I was about to say it, because after all, Tim Burton was a Boingo's fan before working with Danny, so he knew that Danny could sing (and with Weird Science, we have another movie related exemple). Danny also sing the skeleton part in Corpse Bride, little hommage maybe ?
I would consider Full Speed Ahead an 'i want' song. It is Ody and his crew proclaiming their desire to get home which is the defining character of Ody for the remainder of the musical as well as his soul motivation.

41:05 Defiantly watch How the Grinch Stole Christmas in December! The 30 minute animated version will have more musically to talk about and will fit better into a one video youtube format. Then 2000's movie version with Jim Carrey could be a two parter special afterwords. It has amazing set design, costumes, and memorable characters; plus the Humor is right up Casper's ally. Love you guys!
Chris (Jack speaking voice) and Ken Page (Oogie Boogie, RIP) were the nicest guys I met at con last December. My husband and I have done Jack & Sally for Halloween. There is 1 member of voice play that has also done Jack's Lament (the bass). Also, don't often do painting, but somehow in ones that I have done NBC, Oogie Boogie showed up so since his voice actor died on September 30th, Oogie Boogie is painted on our pumpkin this year. Any of the stuff since the movie, Ken Page always voiced Oogie Boogie (even in the kingdom hearts games).
Casper: "So would you classify this as a Halloween movie or a Christmas movie?" Me: "Alright, Imma hide in the war bunker. This about to get messy" *puts on helmet and ducks for cover*
I remember the first time I watched this as a child, it was with my siblings, and my sister spent the whole day, before watching it, arguing with my brother over whether Nightmare Before Christmas was a Halloween or Christmas movie. My brother was so snug when the opening was ‘This is Halloween’ :DD
There was a time in my brother's life were he would watch this movie almost every day. I know every line/song to this movie and I haven't seen it in years.

For the record; the term Sandy Claws is very old. As a child in the 70s, I heard a joke based on Halloween ideas that goes, 'What does a Werewolf and Christmas have in common? They both have Sandy Claws!' But yes, it's an old term, and not just from this movie.
"Tell us your favorite Halloween candy, and if you say candy corn you're banned from this channel" Me who was eating candy corn while watching this: 😶 (in my defense, it isn't my FAVORITE candy, Halloween exclusive or not.)
Found your channel through your Epic reactions and had to pop into this one! A couple things as I put on my musical theatre education hat: "I Want" songs are usually at the start not only to establish a character, but also usually for the motivation before the Inciting Incident of a narrative. You'll have the first song that usually establishes the universe of the musical, a bit of dialog (usually that 4-15 minutes Mortius mentioned), and then the "I Want" song for us as the audience to really understand the character and who they are and why the upcoming inciting incident drives them to action into the Major Conflict. Basic story structure but in musical format. (I always knew my theatre studies in university would come in handy for something, thank you youtube for giving me an excuse). Someone else mentioned in another comment, but these are actually puppet armatures made for this to be filmed in stop motion! So not actually claymation like the old-old days. They would map out facial designs and mouth motions in a program they designed and then sculpt them, and then would input the lyrics to get a map of what face plates to change to when/for what words. Incredibly detailed work for the whole process. Another small catch regarding Danny Elfman's casting, but if you listen closely to a couple of moments before and after Jack sings his songs (particularly his dialog after "Jack's Obsession"), you can hear that it is Danny speaking before it shifts over to Chris' voice. This was done to help ease/smooth the sound and performance between both voices.
I didn't see it mentioned in the comments unless I just missed it... the voice of Sally is Catherine O'hara ... who is also in other well known Tim Burton movies 'Beetlejuice' (better not say it two more times though) ... she played Delia Deetz (also was in the sequel) ... she was also in Frankenweenie... and of course we cant forget her other iconic roles... (Kate McCallister from Home Alone 1 & 2 and Moira Rose from Schitt's Creek) among many other credits ...
i think i have seen this movie in french like 3 times coz my old french teacher would put this on every halloween, but ive never seen it in english or swedish
It’s definitely a Halloween movie. It shows up to watch on Halloween, its main characters are Halloween themed, Christmas is a more secondary holiday, and even the creators confirmed that it is a Halloween movie with Christmas details.
I had a that was doing this, however it was more then 2 different people but about 6 give or take and we all just quietly and “slowly” realized, we would have these moments of going outside to call him for dinner or something or leave food on the porch. My roommates and I in total had 3 cats, I had my own, one of them had their own and all of us owned the one that would be doing the house jumping lol. My cat was a stray for 4 years in neighborhood before I decided to adopt her and due to that she liked going outside so I let her but as the years went on she slowly became less interested in going on our walks or playing outside and basically she only goes outside with me when it’s my daily morning routine, I make mint tea or coffee, get my sketching stuff or painting and I sit outside painting or drawing while enjoying my tea or coffee and she’ll lay under my porch chair. The other cat refused to step foot outside at all, I’m explaining this so people understand we weren’t like neglectful, all our cats had completely different preferences and at first it did bother me letting him outside for so long unattended and the fact he could be gone for days but then my roommates and I started to realize we weren’t his only option lol. I was actually gonna have a conversation with my roommates about letting him out less because he also kept getting to fights with a different cat that was a stray but quickly we could tell he wasn’t fighting that cat anymore and they were kinda tolerating each other and they both started getting fatter and looked very healthy. He and the other stray were obviously being well taken care of, for some reason my apartment complex was just full of cat lovers too so we all just kinda realized what he was doing and we never really spoke to each other about it we just exchanged knowing looks and like short phrases. I have crippling social anxiety so I couldn’t manage more social interactions beyond those small things. I wish I did cause so many of my neighbors were awesome and there was so much potential for a couple good friendships but I have no spine rip.
I remember when NBC returned to theaters I got to go AT Disneyworld. Editadd: I legit choked on my drink in amusement when you rose up matching Jack "When he sets out to Slay, with his rain gear on!" "It feels like a comfort movie." How dare you call out a fanbase like that /j
I cannot express my love for this movie, while my favorite Halloween movie will always be the corpses bride, this is a close wedding, my parents would always play this movie during Halloween season, the music, characters, story, animation, it’s all so good and nostalgic 🥰 in middle school we even did this for our school musical (I got the part of shock)
I'll hold my flag high, in hopes others heed my plea of revolution: May the greatest musical ever, "South Park: Bigger, Longer, Uncut", be one day gazed upon by their mortal eyes!
Hey Mortius, 2 quick things. 1. Found you guys through RWBY reactions and love how much fun you obviously have introducing casper to new awesome things. 2. As a small follow up to the street band, they do play songs that are about to come both times, but it is also that they play Jack's Lament as Jack walks by, and Sally's song when Sally walks past (as they diagetically provide the backtrack for Sally's Song later) Though i realize now you may have just not mentioned it for spoiler coverage.

I had never watched this either, until I saw your reaction pop up. It came out well after I was of an age to be interested and I just never bothered, although I am familer with several songs because they are inevitable to be played around Halloween. Less so the Christmassy ones.
14:35 I feel for Epic, I believe it's "I want" Song would have to be Full Speed Ahead, It identifies Ody's want to return to home and see his wife and son. But that's just my two cents, I loved the reaction you two! Keep up the amazing work!!
I feel like the first 3 songs in Epic all have "I want" elements in how they establish Odysseus' desire to get back to his home, his wife and his son. Ex: The Horse and The Infant - "What do you live for, what do you try for, what do you wish for, what do you fight for? Penelope... Penelope... and Telemachus! I fight for us! I fight for us!", Just A Man - "I'm just a man, who's trying to go home! Even after all the years away from what I've known! I'm just a man, who's fighting for his life! Deep down I would trade the world to see my son and wife!" and then Full Speed Ahead "And Ithica's waiting! (Ithica's waiting!) My kingdom is waiting! (The kingdom is waiting!) Penelope's waiting for me!" To be fair to Mortius though, Legendary is definitely the first song that is *fully* devoted to the I Want structure of establishing a character's background, challenges and motivations.
When my son was about 4, he couldn't remember the name of movies, so he kept just calling this the Halloween Christmas movie. For some reason, despite this being one of my favorite movies, it didn't click what he was talking about until one day I finally said to him "What movie are you talking about? There aren't any movies that are Halloween and Christ...... oooohhhhhh" lol. It took me saying it out loud to immediately realize what he meant.
I totally agree that it's always been both. But also it does to me always lean more towards Halloween cuz as you say they're a lot more Christmas movies than Halloween.
This is one of my all-time favorite movies. It's my iconic Halloween and Christmas movie, and I watch it at least once in both October and December lol! So excited to see a new reaction. Also, for Casper's confusion, he is thinking of gay which was originally just another word for happy.
Many young people today don't know that before he was a movie composer, Danny Elfman was the lead singer in an alternative rock orchestra called The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo. Later on it was shortened to just Oingo Boingo. I had the pleasure of working on a movie that he did some music for called The Forbidden Zone. I also found it odd that he sang for Jack Skellington as Chris Sarandon can definitely sing. He was one of the stars of the Broadway musical The Rothschilds.
+1 comment for the algorithm. My favourite Halloween candies throughout the years have been Reese's cups, fun dip, and tootsie rolls (when i was a *young* child) which grew into chocolate, reese's pieces, and suckers/lollipops. and warheads :) (when I was growing out of trick or treating)
My favorite Halloween candy used to be snickers, but lately it’s been a toss up between York peppermint patties and Mounds bars. As for Grinch; it is one that I grew up watching every single year without fail, and I would love to see you guys watch it. There might not be a lot of vocalized music, but the soundscape is a lot of fun and really gives a lot to the movie.
Not only did Elfman do Jack's voice, but he, the actress who played Sally, and Paul Rubens, aka PeeWee Herman, did the singing for Lock, Shock, and Barrel. Both Catherine O'Hara and Paul Rubens did both singing and voice acting for their characters
42:51 I've never heard of the cartoon spider you're describing, but despite my rather intense arachnophobia (I wouldn't sleep in my bedroom for a month when I was 12 because a spider smaller than my pinkie fingernail crawled across my wall one day), I've never had problems with the Minecraft spiders, not the Glyphids or Spiderants in Deep Rock Galactic and Borderlands 2. For me, it's the legs _and_ fur combined that freak me out, so I'm surprisingly chill with scorpions (though I've never seen one IRL). I had nightmares for a week the first time I entered a spider cave in Skyrim, and I got *_really good_* at playing Jedi: Fallen Order without looking at the screen because the giant spiders on Kashyyyk freaked me out so much that I started playing without locking on in combat, just so I could slash wildly at the spiders while they were off-screen. I'm better about real life spiders nowadays (I no longer scream when I find one or sob uncontrollably when I need to deal with one), but I still feel gross and like I can't be in a room for a while after seeing one. Knowing one was there, but my roommate got it doesn't affect me at all. But I hate spider jumpscares.
The whole part about describing santa to the town is 100 percent him lying to the town remember the line right before he goes " well might as well give them what they want" he later perfectly describes the sleigh and reindeer to dr.finklestein(?) So it's clear he knows all about santa in fact his adhd brain almost certainly had him hyper fixate on santa in particular tho this part is mostly my head canon
Great video! And I must throw my vote in: this is a Thanksgiving movie, you average it! 😂 (Which is when my family always did our annual rewatch, heh.) It's a basic pick but favourite halloween candy probably goes to Reese cups.
I love that you’re reacting to this! Nightmare is one of my favorite movies. I love watching this with my dad. That being said, THIS IS A CHRISTMAS MOVIE. I’m sorry, it’s just a sore spot. The events of the movie don’t properly start until the day *after* Halloween, and the whole plot is about Jack discovering Christmas. You could separate the Halloween elements from the story and replace them with any other “same ol’ same ol’” grind and it wouldn’t really change anything much. You can’t separate the Christmas from this movie. Despite my rant, I love you all and wish y’all the best from the state that calls Jack “Mr. Unlucky”!

26:32 How fitting! Because that what happens when he tries to do Christmas! He is being happy and genuine but it’s done improperly.
big question: has he ever seen the really old stuff like for example: marry poppins, singing in the rain, peter and the wolf, phantom of the opera, etc?
The most frustrating part for me is that the cuts mess with me singing along to this. I LOVE THIS MOVIE!
*saw Mortius missing during the end of the first song as he rises along with Jack*
Me: Oh you spooky bish 😂 I thought the vid glitch lolz
Also Casper gonna love ‘ the Corpse Bride ' / Sally's song hehe
I propose that this movie is a Thanksgiving movie, on account of taking place after Halloween, and (mostly) before Christmas :P
Bold take. I like it.
That is certainly a choice
41:05 Defiantly watch How the Grinch Stole Christmas in December! The 30 minute animated version will have more musically to talk about and will fit better into a one video youtube format. Then 2000's movie version with Jim Carrey could be a two parter special afterwords. It has amazing set design, costumes, and memorable characters; plus the Humor is right up Casper's ally. Love you guys!
My favorite candy to have on Halloween is probably 3musketeers, in the words of Dustin Henderson "I could eat a whole bowl of Nougat"
When you are ready for The Grinch, remember that the different versions have different songs, so do a blended playlist rather than a single show.
RIP, Mr Page… 😞
Casper: "So would you classify this as a Halloween movie or a Christmas movie?"
Me: "Alright, Imma hide in the war bunker. This about to get messy" *puts on helmet and ducks for cover*
Let me in PLEASE
@haileyturner3309 *Opens bunker door*
I remember the first time I watched this as a child, it was with my siblings, and my sister spent the whole day, before watching it, arguing with my brother over whether Nightmare Before Christmas was a Halloween or Christmas movie. My brother was so snug when the opening was ‘This is Halloween’ :DD
One of my favorite movies of all time. I'm so hyped for the second part!
17:00 there is the one festive song in-between the "Familia Madrigal" and "Waiting on the miracle"
Most people don't really count that as a full song though. More of just a background song
There was a time in my brother's life were he would watch this movie almost every day. I know every line/song to this movie and I haven't seen it in years.
9:25 Yeah, it's both, I watch it at least twice a year 😂
Same
Oh this is gonna me amazing with halloween coming up in a few days, anyways….
Beetlejuice the musical when?
They have to figure out a way to watch it cause there's not a proshot of it right now they're doing different shows
OMG hes gonna love it
I’ll sign this petition where is it
1993 buddy, same age as me!
Doesn't make me feel old at all!!!
imagine how i feel, remembering when it came out! XD
@@ruffboiALTI was 8 when this came out and distinctly remember seeing the trailers on TV
i f***ing love mortius' energy in this. I think you may love this movie as much as me. rising with jack during this is Halloween is extremely iconic and it's going to live in my head rent free from now on.
we need a sing a long SO BAD
It's a Thanksgiving movie. A good distance between Halloween and Christmas. 😂
minor problem - i’m british. we don’t celebrate thanksgiving.
@_panonbinary6528 oof, I guess... immigrating to the colonies day??? /JKJKJK
@@jasmineperez4439 eh there’s probably a few of those days between halloween and christmas might as well enjoy them
@@_panonbinary6528 😂
We have thanksgiving before Halloween ( I'm Canadian)
This movie is my only Halloween tradition. I’ve been thinking of adding coraline to that tradition tho bc ugh so good!
“These guys are just hanging out” oh for fucks sake Casper😂
I do this, Corpse Bride, Sleepy Hollow, and Hocus Pocus every year. Coraline’s a good idea, though!
3 Musketeers, honestly. Luckily it's one of very few candies I can still have with my health issues.
3 Musketeers is delicious!
For the record; the term Sandy Claws is very old. As a child in the 70s, I heard a joke based on Halloween ideas that goes, 'What does a Werewolf and Christmas have in common? They both have Sandy Claws!' But yes, it's an old term, and not just from this movie.
"Tell us your favorite Halloween candy, and if you say candy corn you're banned from this channel"
Me who was eating candy corn while watching this: 😶
(in my defense, it isn't my FAVORITE candy, Halloween exclusive or not.)
So good! I can hardly wait to see Casper meet our darling children.
You both have to watch the original hand animated “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”!!
I highly recommend checking out the movie The Labryrinth. It has a good amount of David Bowie songs
But be warned it has not aged well AND even in the mid-80s it was considered a bit trippy. I love it!
My favorite candy is chocolate. Dark chocolate. 82% Dark Dark chocolate. Or 92% Dark chocolate.
Excellent choice!
Editadd: I legit choked on my drink in amusement when you rose up matching Jack
"When he sets out to Slay, with his rain gear on!"
"It feels like a comfort movie." How dare you call out a fanbase like that /j
14:46 you could almost say it's a....lament 😅
love your reactions! mortius- because I'm you 🤣and Casper because he's always just in awe!
12:21 Nice work Open Arms daddy 😂😂😂
I cannot express my love for this movie, while my favorite Halloween movie will always be the corpses bride, this is a close wedding, my parents would always play this movie during Halloween season, the music, characters, story, animation, it’s all so good and nostalgic 🥰 in middle school we even did this for our school musical (I got the part of shock)
I'll hold my flag high, in hopes others heed my plea of revolution:
May the greatest musical ever, "South Park: Bigger, Longer, Uncut", be one day gazed upon by their mortal eyes!
This is a movie that plays constantly from October 1 through December 24...
In terms of Halloween films that are a staple, that would fit this channel, mine would be this one and also Little Shop Of Horrors and Rocky Horror Picture Show
25:29 it was produced by one of Disneys sub companies (Touchstone pictures I believe)
This came out on my 10th birthday 😁 I still remember seeing the previews on my tv .. so many people say it would of scared kids , not me I adored it 😆 my living room and kitchen are themed after it and it’s not just for Halloween , it’s all year long 😂😂 my family met Jack and Sally at mickeys Halloween party in 2019 🥰🥰
I was 4, but I loved it from the start. Still watch it every year!
@@kallandar13 same here 🥰🥰 I got the full behind the scenes , I love seeing deleted stuff as while as when they first changed the haunted mansion into the Halloween theme , though sadly Disney world doesn’t change its theme cause I’d love to of seen that in person
When I started watching this I did wonder about the zombie thing and how that would go, so glad Casper found them cute and ok! It's such a good movie
This is such a good movie, also a little tid bit of information. If people haven’t heard, the incredible Ken Page, voice of Oogie Boogie, passed away recently. He was a really cool and kind guy and I even got to meet him once and got his autograph on my birthday
I consider it both a Halloween movie AND a Christmas movie. I usually watch it multiple times throughout oct and dec.
I had never watched this either, until I saw your reaction pop up. It came out well after I was of an age to be interested and I just never bothered, although I am familer with several songs because they are inevitable to be played around Halloween. Less so the Christmassy ones.
Coraline may not be a musical, but its soundtrack is so deep and interesting that I think it’d still be worth a vid
I fight for us!",
Just A Man - "I'm just a man, who's trying to go home! Even after all the years away from what I've known! I'm just a man, who's fighting for his life! Deep down I would trade the world to see my son and wife!"
and then Full Speed Ahead "And Ithica's waiting! (Ithica's waiting!) My kingdom is waiting! (The kingdom is waiting!) Penelope's waiting for me!"
To be fair to Mortius though, Legendary is definitely the first song that is *fully* devoted to the I Want structure of establishing a character's background, challenges and motivations.
Okay, 7:08 was so perfectly timed and caught me offguard! Amazing, Mortius!
This is my FAVORITE Halloween/Christmas movie
When my son was about 4, he couldn't remember the name of movies, so he kept just calling this the Halloween Christmas movie. For some reason, despite this being one of my favorite movies, it didn't click what he was talking about until one day I finally said to him "What movie are you talking about? There aren't any movies that are Halloween and Christ...... oooohhhhhh" lol. It took me saying it out loud to immediately realize what he meant.
5:37 Hot take: It's a Thanksgiving movie.
I haven't seen nightmare before christmas (or at least I don't remember watching it) so this being my first experience was awesome 😊
I was planning on watching this for Halloween anyway.
Ooooooohhhh, Mortius looking freaking dapper!!
I totally agree that it's always been both. But also it does to me always lean more towards Halloween cuz as you say they're a lot more Christmas movies than Halloween.
fav Halloween candy = SMARTIES
(then Sweet Tarts, Now&Later, & candy corn)
This is one of my all-time favorite movies. It's my iconic Halloween and Christmas movie, and I watch it at least once in both October and December lol! So excited to see a new reaction.
Also, for Casper's confusion, he is thinking of gay which was originally just another word for happy.
This is a Halloween movie for me since this is much more connected to it than Christmas
Jack: WHATS THIS?!
Kid: BRO WTF-
Many young people today don't know that before he was a movie composer, Danny Elfman was the lead singer in an alternative rock orchestra called The Mystic Knights of the Oingo Boingo.
I haven’t seen nightmare before Christmas for a long time. ❤❤❤ I loved this😊😊😊
This movie comes to theaters every October, so many ornery think of it as a Halloween movie as well.
My favorite Halloween movie plus my favorite duo on TH-cam. This is going to be good.
For the end question, I like 100 grand bars, I wish more candy bags had them
Can we just appreciate that fact that mortius is wearing jacks suit. You look great Mortius love you and caspers content 🕷️🖤
My favorite movie of all time!
So happy about ur costume Mr Mortius!
Petition for you to show Casper Sweeney Todd with Johnny Depp
👇🏻
But I hate spider jumpscares.
ah yes one who is familar with this gem of a movie bringing a newbie into the fold.
Honestly I'd love to see you two react to the Hatchetfield Musical Series! It's hilarious and I feel like you'd both love it!
Great video! And I must throw my vote in: this is a Thanksgiving movie, you average it! 😂
(Which is when my family always did our annual rewatch, heh.)
It's a basic pick but favourite halloween candy probably goes to Reese cups.
Unlucky”!
agreed!
THANK YOU!!!!! I just made this exact argument in a comment saying the opposite. Despite them being in Halloween Land, they are preparing for Christmas to the point that Jack is flying a sleigh in a Santa suit, delivering presents.
