Great review lads! I'd buy this Hilux just on its worldwide popularity and sales volume here in OZ. Oh, and you'll never see the day when Toyota hurriedly releases an immediate recall quoting that an electronic issue can turn your vehicle into a death trap..Ford Ranger anyone??
With Toyota's head in sand attitude, faulty DPF's, dusted engines from faulty air filter housings, splitting turbo pipes, faulty turbos, leaking engine main seals and gearbox synchro faults, I wouldn't rate Hilux as ideal either...
@brendan3430 I love how Toyota fan boys turn a blind eye to all the shit they have put there customer's through in recent years. Toyota reliability is no better than anyone else, and they are quick to squirm their way out of warranty as well.
It’s overpriced but what people are missing is that it’s based on their Dakar chassis so it’s not really a tradie hilux. Everything is more light weight
Can’t help but notice you’re taking a dig at other car journalists… (in regards to the drag race comment you made at the start) It’s very unprofessional. Just stick to what you do and let other people stick to what they like to do.
As usual with Toyota to expensive for a tractor engine with an extra turbo no tub cover cheap looking flares 💩camera speakers stuck on dash no tailgate torsion bar small digital screen 💩🤬
Led lights are sooooo much more expensive to produce/purchase if damaged. Non led lights in Ute's that get actually get used as Ute's and may be damaged are way more practical.
I tried to like the GR but could not get over the dated interior for the money you pay. Then you need to pay extra for a tow bar. I went with a Ranger Wildtrak X. However, when the next Gen LUX comes out I will likely trade. Likely released at the show March 2025 and we will see it on the show room floor 2026. My hope is it will bring some of the tech and looks from the Tecoma in the U.S.
I have a 2018 Rogue. Didn’t see the point of upgrading. Would rather wait and see if the tundra will make it here next year. Yes more expensive yes! But worth the wait I think to see what they will deliver. Come on Toyota!!!
300 Kgs less payload but still rides like a load carrying Ute, and spacer plates in the suspension and a prehistoric 4x4 system … what is the GR Hilux actually useful for? You cannot use it for work or for touring as you are already 300kgs behind all the competitors from the factory! Missed opportunity for Toyota to build a Wildtrak X but with slightly more KW and NW … the Tacoma I-Force Max cannot come soon enough for Toyota Australia.

Thank you for the review. I am in the market for a new bakkie/ute and is doing some research at the moment. The overall impression I get from the Toyota reviews is disappointment. Disappointment that Toyota is not keeping up with new innovations, or even just improving ride quality. Cabin noise is a major factor for me and I'm looking at the higher spec levels to improve on that. Seems like that is not on Toyota's list of important features. Sadly, I would have like the resale value and reliability of a Toyota, but discounting comfort and safety features unfortunately means that it is no longer a contender for me. I'm sure there are many happy Toyota owners who has strong opinions to the contrary, and I'm happy for you. Safe driving.
I’m in the market for a 2nd hand Ute so I found a 2019 SR5 to test drive today to see what all the fuss was about. It had 40 thousand kms on it and it was immaculate. $50k!!! I was very underwhelmed and would never sit in another one. Toyota are a joke
It's Just fascinating you the Gr hilux is underpowered and how in a comparison of the 150 kw version in the ridiculously basic 70 series is way better than the V8. What load of crap you guys come up with I would not let you guys review a whipper snipper
That's what I like about a ute. An old dude like me can still kick out the back end and feel like he is 20 again! Agree on the side steps they are fast becoming a useless cosmetic feature of the car, Im upgrading to the electric swing out steps which do what side steps are designed to do, be a step!
Not knowing the difference between rock sliders and side steps is just sad😂. Toyota applied a lot of engineering into this Hilux, making it a hardcore off-roader.
The more I watch videos from that person who drifted this car, the less I like them. The verdict at the end of their video was still full of praise, whereas yours was realistic. This is why you’re my fave motoring channel. Keep being honest and humorous 😊
I'm just back from a test-drive. I have no clue what these 2 are complaining about. It is a truck, it's not BMW M3. Seems well build, 0-100 is ok. I don't really like the transmission and I'm not impressed by the engine, but both are adequate. It is a bit dated, but it is not bad on fuel and is reliable. You won't get a speeding ticket in this pickup for sure. I would not by this trim level. One level down is the way to go in my opinion.
FYI after driving the Ranger Wildtrack v6 I ordered the Toyota Hilux. Ford seems nicer by a bit, but is still a Ford. Being impartial it is the better vehicle, but I just don't trust it to be reliable.
I couldn’t bring myself to buy the first new model of anything, even a Hilux. This last version is probably a reliability winner even if it’s dated as f* inside. It does everything I want it to and when I factor in the power upgrade, suspension and rock sliders it’s not terrible value. Plus I want to do my own thing when it comes to the tub.
I'll just say this. Reviewers like him and many others may complain about the old body / chassis / interior and every thing else. But 20 years from now, we'll wish we still had trucks like this. We'll miss a proper handbrake, we'll miss a reliable engine. We'll miss a vehicle that we can actually work on ourselves with simple tools and basic mechanical knowledge. We'll miss a functional interior with simple to use AC controls. I've sat and drove in all of the competition and they're all similar. But one thing that is immediately noticeable to me is how much more "open" and "airy" the Hilux feels due to the large windows all around, not just the front.
Yeah nah, I don't think we will 20 years from now. This is complacency from Toyota and idiots will still pay 80k for it. Might as well buy an LC70 if you want uber-basic spec and that is at least an interesting vehicle.
The inside looks dated and going up against the Adventurer and Wildtrak, do Toyota really think this is anywhere near those two? First thing I noticed no roof rails or roller cover for the tub. Those wheel flares are way too big and cheapen the look. When I am looking to change my ute, Hilux won't be up for consideration.

@@scottcox8559then why there are more older hiluxes than old rangers on the road?
@PSXBOX-lz1zq because Toyota sells more cars, doesn't mean their reliability isn't just as shit.
wow so much cheapie nasty plastic bits! Toyota is treating buyers like suckers.
I have this Toyota GR sport and the Ford ranger outdoors Toyota anytime reliability Toyota anytime but thanks guys for the reviews ❤
It’s overpriced but what people are missing is that it’s based on their Dakar chassis so it’s not really a tradie hilux. Everything is more light weight
Toyota, it’s the only way to burn 80k without making your friends and family jealous 😎
Can’t help but notice you’re taking a dig at other car journalists… (in regards to the drag race comment you made at the start) It’s very unprofessional. Just stick to what you do and let other people stick to what they like to do.
Nah, it's funny cause other car journos are idiots vs these down to earth guys.
As usual with Toyota to expensive for a tractor engine with an extra turbo no tub cover cheap looking flares 💩camera speakers stuck on dash no tailgate torsion bar small digital screen 💩🤬
Toyota interiors have always been 10+ years behind the completion, just not a special place to be.
20 years IMHO
Led lights are sooooo much more expensive to produce/purchase if damaged. Non led lights in Ute's that get actually get used as Ute's and may be damaged are way more practical.
I sold my 3.2 ranger and now just bought my 2nd hilux with 521000ks on the previous hilux.
The Hilux kills the ranger on reliability.
Come on and fist me brother 😂😂😂
This is way better than renger
this review was ass, clearly he doesnt like toyota or maybe the hilux and just did a rant. there is so many points he didnt touch on.
Toyota is taking the piss here on the Aussie market. I hate Ford but I would Buy a Ford before the RECALL KING TOYOTA.
Can't for wait for my lux to arrive.
790kg payload Minus 350kg draw bar down load (10% of the trailer weight 3500kg) = 440kg remaining payload. How much do you weight Mat!????????
Given what is going on in the middle east, its the perfect time to release a Toyota HiLux review lol
haha
Don't give up your job pushing trolleys at the Supermarket. Also don't do anything involving communication, speech, or public relations. Have you been told lately, you sound like something that rhymes with S IT. People are only looking here because of the car. Your - I wont even call this a review. Its a bad joke.

I drive one of these, the invincible model and it’s torture
That's what I like about a ute. An old dude like me can still kick out the back end and feel like he is 20 again! Agree on the side steps they are fast becoming a useless cosmetic feature of the car, Im upgrading to the electric swing out steps which do what side steps are designed to do, be a step!
Not knowing the difference between rock sliders and side steps is just sad😂. Toyota applied a lot of engineering into this Hilux, making it a hardcore off-roader.
Maybe the step is not a step but a rock slider.😊
Toyota is garbage atm. The new 70 is crap also. Like a tin can bonnet
This truck basically is made to steal some of the Rangers sales until the new gen Hilux comes out
Maybe do a comparison. The 2023 Toyota Hilux GR vs 2018 Ford Ranger Raptor. Should be pretty even love to see results
Ranger is 15 grand more
Looks like they spent all the R&D budget on GR badges and logos...
Bloody irritating and annoying car reviewers hyped up with high fructose corn syrup sugar and synthetic caffeine.😅
Toyota not very good at sterling cornering better Ford ranger and Mitsubishi Triton but i like most Mitsubishi Triton rally king champion
It still lasts longer than any vehicles in it's price range.
Toyota dealers thought every time they sell one of these things and pocket yr money: “Oh what a stealing”.
I have always been Toyota but I am now out priced. A car is not worth that much
Toyota reliability is over rated. The new Triton, dmax and frontier is way better.. And also in price
haha way overpriced, these utes are becoming a joke when it comes to features and the pricing they want.
2024 Hilux GR is just a facelifted 2016 Hilux change my mind
Why 2024, Toyota still has horrible camera. Don't Japan have sony?
Toyota made this to sell off old inventory, do not rush and buy! The next generation hilux will be out next year 2024-2025
I couldn’t bring myself to buy the first new model of anything, even a Hilux. This last version is probably a reliability winner even if it’s dated as f* inside. It does everything I want it to and when I factor in the power upgrade, suspension and rock sliders it’s not terrible value. Plus I want to do my own thing when it comes to the tub.
Excellent 100% agree on your review. Great job lads. GR stands for Gazoo Racing whats the race oart of the hilux? Wheres the performance????
don't you ever seen them on the dakar ?
@@paulklp8262nah, yeah, old mate. Toyota didn't find their reputation in a cornflakes box. They earned it and it still applies.
Exactly my thoughts! Hence why I went with the vw amarok
Toyota design ethos - "If it sells well, why bother?" Therefore u wont see hefty upgrades
Um, actually it is more a matter of, 'if it ain't broke...'
Unlike Ford, which is, 'it don't work, so make it pretty'.
Watching reviews doing my homework on a new ute for ages, still a BT50 for me.
Don't watch his videos or reviews, no car manufacturing company will make what he wanted. Aliens should build a car fir this youtuber.
BT - 50 cannot tow for shit... test drove one a couple days ago.
Boryota
For $80K i would get the new Ford Ranger
Toyota are totally complacent and take their clientele for granted
1:22 it's Hilux dressed up to fool the customers
Camp Rant from these Mitches that was painful to watch.
