that is the most accurate 22 you will probably ever shoot. i still have the one my dad bought me when i was fourteen and i'm eighty now. it now is in the ownership of my son and he has 2 sons. hopefully it will get the care i gave it. before i turned it over to my son i refinished the stock and had it reblued ; also a new front sight; the ball from old sight just came off one day and i shot it many years like that. i can't even take a guess how many rounds went through that rifle. is all i know when the eyes were good i could hit a piss ant between the eyes at a hundred yards with the irons on that rifle. i believe they made around 400, 000 of that particular model; they made several other models after that one. have fun with that rifle young man; it's a piece of history!!!!

I have my great uncle's 511. Had the stock re-finished and put a good scope on it. Hit a nickle at 100 yds all day.

I have a 521T that belonged to my father for decades, and a 513T that I picked up from Cabela's a couple years back. They share the same bolt and magazine with the 511. There is just something about the quality build in those rifles. My 2 still shoot great out to 100 yards. The single shot 510, 511, 513T, and 521T are just the best bolt action .22s you could get in my opinion.

Not sure why anyone gave this a thumbs down. Heck I could only hope someday my offspring would hold onto what I pass down and do a respectful video like this.
Its a nice rifle and it has a history. That's part of the gun culture. Never run a brush down the bore and only patches if you must. .22's are easy to destroy if the barrel is not cleaned right. Which is usually, don't clean it. The rest keep clean and oiled.
I do something to all my guns. Even heirlooms. My .22 I sanded the stock, touched up the wood work in a couple places, then coated it with a hot wax and buffed it out. Any notches that were meant were kept. The wax really brought out the color of the wood. Plus now its waterproof. So its like having it preserved forever. Without losing what it is adding a all weather stock as a outdoor use upgrade. Another thing I would like to do is put an old style round target peep sight on. Left/right up/down with very tight/small increments for adjustment. Leather sling and extra mags. All you need is time and ammo for fun.

Love watching videos like this. I've got a Remington 33 NRA Junior sigle shot. It's a great little rifle and doesn't give up much in the way of accuracy to newer guns.

the 2-4 letters printed on the barrel by where it says the manufacturer and caliber will tell you the month and year it was made you can tell me your letters and i can look them up for you to tell you what month and year your 511 was made. i just was gifted one by my buddy- he found it in a storage unit he won in an auction and didnt want it because it was rusty and the butt stock was shortened. after some work and legalizing it with a new butt stock its like brand new

I have a little 3/4 steel weaver scope on mine and at 50 yards off a shooting bag I can shoot a 5 shot group and cover it with a dime. These rifles are tack drivers. I use standard velocity cci 40 grain to get my best groups. High velocity will throw a few out side the dime size group.

Great job....have a 511 and 512 tube feed...so there is a date on the gun. Remington used a letter code look on left side of barrel where it screws into the action should see some letters, one is for month the other is for year.Goggle up Remington date codes for a list to show date. And there a great gun better then the plastic junk you get these days. Shoe

Back in the 1960s my dad knew a man who killed himself with a 511. The widow gave the 511 to my dad and now I have this man killer. I call it a Squirrel Master.

Ever hear of "cheek weld"? ? ? There is a date code stamped in the left side of the barrel, just forward of where it mates with the receiver. The Remington Collectors web site has an explanation of how to interpret the date code.

  • @47sojourner
    @47sojourner 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

On the right hand side of the barrel just forward of the receiver, you'll see a proof stamp then two letters followed by two numbers. The first letter designates the month and the second letter designates the year of manufacture. My Scoremaster has the letters B K. B = January and K = 1941. You can find these tables on the web. Let me know if you need help finding them.

I put a way over powered 36 power fixed Buris Scope on my 511 just to see if I could really find the accuracy of this rifle. I get dime size groups at 50 yards all day long with this gun but I was doing that with the 3/4 tube scope as well. Very accurate rifle :)

I was given this rifle about a month ago. Tried to zero it with the Canadian bull military targets, 8 1/2 x 11 in sheet. At 25 yards I couldn't get it on the paper. I adjusted the sight and still couldn't get on the paper. I had to close the distance to about 30 feet to hit the Canadian bull. What really didn't make any sense was I went out to 120 yards and hit my 8 in gong every time. I can't squirrel hunt with this up close. I'm gonna try to put a scope on it and see will that make a difference. If not it will be left behind. It was made in April 1945. Update I gave this rifle a very good cleaning and it shoot darn go. It is dead on whatever I aim at.

PixelPhish if you look on the bottom right side of where it says your shell types on the barrel you may see a stamp for example mine has a double ended arrow which is the final inspectors stamp then a 3 letter code mine is L RR which tells me that mine was made feb. 1946. Like yours mine has history behind it my grandpa bought it new when he passed my dad got it and now that my dad has passed I have it so naturally my son is next in line. I have to agree with you this gun is a complete blast to shoot, I just hope my son has as much fun growing up with it as I did.

Ours is now on it's 4th generation of shooters. It was used for decades and decades in our butcher shop for dropping animals. When not used for that it took out more groundhogs, birds, chipmunks, squirrels, and targets then I can count. Be willing to bet it's seen at least a million rounds through it, and it can still drive brad nails at 50 yards with iron sights. They don't build guns like this anymore.

I just inherited this same gun from my dad who passed away last April and this gun was his dads gun too and I will pass it on to my son. On the left side of the gun there are letters, mine is marked with "PP" which states my "511 SCOREMASTER" was made 71 years ago in 1945. Tell me your identifying letters and I will tell you when your gun was made. There should be 3 to 5 letters on the left side of the barrel in front of the woodstock, if you give me ALL the markings and letters I will tell you exact history of your gun including month and year made and marks for repairs by a gun smith which were done back in the old days (if any).

Since the 511 Scoremaster was made from 1939 to 1963, It's safe to say that your rifle's born date was June of 1960.

I just came across your video. I can see this video is from 4 years ago - I hope you are still enjoying your rifle. I just obtained one of these. There is a date code on the left side of the receiver that can help you determine how old your rifle is. Mine has BK, so if I interpreted correctly that would be Jan. 1941.
