- After a long hiatus, students have returned to the streets of Bangkok demanding political reforms, democracy and change. Among others, they would to see an end to the intimidation of pro-democracy campaigners and activists by the authorities, the drafting of a new constitution - one that will give power back to the people, the dissolution of parliament - including the government-appointed Senate, followed by fresh elections. For the first in the country's history, the students are also calling for the reform of a highly revered and sacred institution in the country - the monarchy. It's a potentially seditious move which carries a prison sentence of up to 15 years in prison for those found guilty of insulting the King. But will their demands for change and democratic reforms be met by the government? Or will the country see the eruption of violence in the streets of Bangkok once again?

I hope the country succeeds. I like Thai people. More needs to be done about human (esp. child) trafficking and prostitution. Monitoring of foreigners or something.... I’ve never thought I’d advocate for being watched while in the country, but I wouldn’t mind having a minder/someone watch me while on vacation in Thailand, if it means that it helps save children, until we can think of something else. As for Thai people, a step toward constitutional monarchy is one in the right direction.
I have been living on and off and coming to Thailand for 24 years. I will never understand Thais, what goes on in their heads, but that's okay The majority however are fine, good natured people and they don't need an elite to dictate to them anymore. Hope they come out of this and Covid with bigger smalls and a fairer amount of prosperity.

True, My parents like the PM coz the government give the farmer $50 a year to help with farming rice and she's over the moon and voted for him!!! They know nothing about politics as long as they live peacefully. they do know that the money is from the taxpayer not from the PM's pocket. in the past, my parent received about $3 for each vote when I was young. last time it's gone up to $25 for each vote. all politicians are corrupted.

When I was in Thailand, the royal family was passing by and we were asked by the police to stop walking until they completely out of our sight. And we are instructed not to take pictures of videos. I didn’t know that taking pic of royal fam was something forbidden to do.

The problems are wide spread, monarchy, military, federal politicians and provincial politicians. The monarchy is the easiest to change to a democratic one. Getting the political situation corrected is the most difficult as like all politicians they only want power and will not give it up. What the Thai people must be careful of is the strong, some say extreme socialist policy. Good luck to them as they will have to make sure that it is really a democratic country they want.

Young people need to learn from those which are much older & have seen/been through hardships. These youngsters can't put down their phone for more than 30 minutes. *First, they should be like my Thai in-laws, have 8 children & live in a small farm shack for the first 15 years of marriage. Then one has skin in the game.

To those who talk about how these people are destroying their 'peaceful, beautiful country', please kindly remember that Thailand is beautiful and peaceful to the tourists and the rich. It is the rest of the Thai people, who have to live with the results of their military leadership and their lese-majeste monarchy in the 21st century. So it is no wonder that they're demanding change. Yes, there is no guarantee that they will prosper under a democracy, and the road to true, significant change is surely a long one, but most privileges that we enjoy now (women being able to vote, the abolition of slavery, etc.) were all fought step by step by many young people of the time too, who decided they want to live their future out on their own terms.

The relevance of the monarchy is a unifying force or symbol for a people and its culture, and the country. You can call him whatever the king, sultan or emperor. He must therefore be relevant to the people and be identified with them. That's what the American did in supporting the Emperor of Japan as symbolic head of state instead of prosecuting him for war crimes like they did with many other leaders. The Japanese accepted that arrangement and respected their emperor and the royalty to this day. Thailand did that very well living under the previous king - King Rama 9. It could see how that reign could be continued or need to be adapted in presents times. Alternatively, Thailand could also look at other systems such as the Japanese royalty model or even those in the Europe or elsewhere (Obviously the Thai can easily adopt them. The bearskin hat worn by the king and ceremonial guards is more akin to Britain than uniquely Thai or even Asian!)

In Malaysia, there are like nine royal families in each of our states so there are like nine mini kings. Every few years, one of the nine mini kings will be the main king of the Malaysia known as the ‘Agong’. Imagine the amount of money they’ve spent on their luxurious lives. People in the royal families usually don’t work at all so all of them just leech off the country’s money. Those mini kings NEVER do anything. I really hate how some of the monarchy systems work. This is the 21st century. Why do we still have the monarchy system? Just get rid of it.
what Warong has said is just a tip of the iceberg. so it's easy for him to say so as well as it's so easy for him to manipulate the message that sounds convincing. What's unquestionable problematic message is that part under the sea of the iceberg. In other words, that part has been being developed strategically and well organized things nicely and sounds righteous. For example, during the past 6 years underneath the junta, everything is utilized and devised for the sake of the "system/ regime" itself and/ or its parts/networks i.e those institutions mentioned in the footage, militaries, elites, those privileges and so on; whether that in terms of the powers, wealth, opportunities, resources, or status quo, and so on.
Much is made about the youth and students :-)

During Covid pandemic Prayuth prime minister followed doctor team every step . All thai citizens came back , Prayuth set up team for quarantine with three meals in good condition shelter.
