  • They've been rallying almost daily for the past month - anti-government protesters led by students are attracting different sectors of Thai society.
Their main demand is a change of the entire political system.
That includes the resignation of former army general now Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-Ocha.
Some are calling for what has long been unthinkable; reform of the monarchy
Any criticism of the royal family is an offence that can lead to a long prison sentence.
How likely is political change in Thailand?
    Presenter: Hashem Ahelbarra
    Guests:
Pravit Rojanaphruk - political reporter and columnist for Kaosod English news website
David Streckfuss - Thai historian and author of: 'Truth on Trial in Thailand; Defamation, Treason and Lese- Majeste

His own Mother called him a 'playboy' & so how do you expect the Thai people to totally respect such a King who has behaved appallingly at times & not utter a single word of criticism against him? Even during the current Covid 19 crisis when his country has been in lockdown, the King holed him away from the country in a luxury hotel in Germany with his harem of concubines!

@JAB ITAL The difference between you and him is that he is a leader. Leaders have more responsiblity and therefore higher expectations. A king is NOT a normal person. He has many privileges but he has to make sacrifices for those privileges. When the Australian prime minsiter went on holidays during the bushfires, he couldn't understand why everyone was upset. "But everyone needs a holiday!" he said. When you are a leader you need to be there in your country during a crisis to show that you are there for them and to help give people confidence and make them feel like you are there for them. Going overseas just adds to the large list of reasons he is not respected like his father was. It looks like he's running away from the trouble rather than staying to help his people.

The king and his family in Thailand are the most important problems in the country.
    Why?
    1. Take the tax payer money to refer to the project But set up more than 30 companies for their own family
    2. Killing, imprisonment for those whose opinions do not match the king's side.
    3. The government gives tax payer money to the royal family billions of baht a year.
    4. For Tax payer money, the military government or the royal government It will take on projects with the rich who are on the same side.
    5. Very little of Tax payer money was spent on education and livelihoods in the country, and much of the Tax payer money was spent on the extravagance of the dictatorial government and the royal family.
