The memory foam filling ensures than no matter how you pack it, cram it or crush it in to your pack it pops back into shape. The attached loop allows you to tie off to your ridgeline or continuous loops to keep it from falling out.

I have one of these that matchs my hammock. It is perfect for hammock sleeping. I use mine as more neck support then head cushioning.
