Good idea with the pack hanger being an emergency strap. I bring a long one of the Spiderweb straps from Dutch. Always in my pack in case I have a failure with a strap.

It's one of those things you don't think of until it happens

Hey, some neat ideas. I carry one of your straps as a backup.

@@HemlockMountainOutdoors TY. I think I will order the westrim just as a cheap way of testing traditional hammocks to see if they will work for me or not, and I might upgrade to a coyote down the line. I was leaning towards the flatlay types but idk if I really need that or not

You're welcome. That's a great way to get started. Since you're just getting started keep in mind that a longer hammock gives you a flatter lay. Generally, for sleeping comfort, you would want to ensure that you have at least 2 feet additional to your head and foot ends vs your height.

@@HemlockMountainOutdoors good to know. I got the 11 ft westrim. just in time for the mosquitos to get me lol. once I figure out my preference for laying I may upgrade to an asym coyote. planning a trip for the last week of may so I hope the lead time is closer to 4 weeks instead of 6....
