  • Omihachiman is an ancient town in Shiga Prefecture, not far from Kyoto. It’s definitely a nice place to stay for a few days. MAP:

Thanks for the entertaining video. I'm from a small village 10-km north of Omihachiman. Mr. Yoshiaki Tsutsumi, who was the richest man in the world in 2003, is from the village; and the Tsutsumis own Omi Raillord Co., Ltd. that run shuttle bus service that you saw when you were filming the video. I'm sure that African samurai aka Yasuke was in Omihachiman sometime between 1581 and 1582 ( when Yasuke served Oda Nobunaga) because Azuchi castle (Oda's castle) was in Omihachiman. Also, two large ninja towns - Koka and Iga, were southeast of Omihachiman. Shiga Prefecture has far more Buddhist temples per capita than other prefectures. Many Buddhist temples in Shiga are from ancient times when Japan brought Buddhism from China. My home is 180-yr old wooden house.

Hi John, Keven is a soft spoken person. I guess it's part of his charm, but we cannot hear him. Ditto with Kanae. You need to invest in at least 1 wired mic and recorder. There are recorders with built-in directional mics. You can do the final mix when you edit. Just remember to do a visual/audio clap at the beginning. You don't need a clap board, but I'm sure you can get one at Disney. Sony has a nice one that comes with the lapel mic and omnidirectional built in mics. This would greatly improve the sound when you are not alone. I will chip in $100CAD towards that. Please get back to me with how I can make that donation. I just got that you are streaming live. That means you need 2 mics. One being wireless and a mixer. Yeah, that's a pain, but if you want to go that way, I'm still in for $100.

A video including Kevin guarantees to be a amazing video, I really love it when you team up. I would love to see more of you two together. This walk around is maybe one of my most wanted of experience myself (beside harvesting vegetables and living in a farmers house for a night or so^^) this town is like the essence of what I hope to see someday. I just can't get over the beauty of ancient times, it's even the only thing I love about european towns: walking around the oldtown.
Thank you for sharing. It's always a joy to see you, hear your stories, I bet there are many untold yet, so I will always watch and listen😁

i think since june 1 there are flights for people with permanent visa's back to japan. we've been hearing lots of news (almost few times a week) of screened people on japan airport arrivals who are tested positive of covid19 (maybe few people say 1-4 in a flight of around 150) and are taken directly to hospitals.

Amazing little town. BTW Cicada lay eggs in tree bark, they stay from 13 to 17 years, hatch, and new cicada mates, lays new eggs and dies. What a terrible life. Keep up the visits to small villages. Bob Chattanooga TN USA

The Irish would probably say, ”Dia duit”, as a morning greeting. One would usually respond with, ”Dia Muire duit”. God be with you, and God and Mary be with you. German use similar greetings

Ancient streets with horses 🐴 or just pedestrians not made for cars. Ancient property laws make it impossible to widen streets, right now anyway.

the difference between an artisan and a craftsman... seeing as arts and crafts are often lumped together. I think of them as Judo and Brazilian Jujitsu, artisans are gentle artists and craftsman are the guys swinging hammers. I also think of them as being cerebral vs visceral. the important thing is they are not mutually exclusive. Take the guys making katanas, there is a great mix if ways you put your attention to the thing, be it collecting materials or operating machinery, but the calculated side of that art doesn't take away from pure physicality of it all.
