The dried persimmons are yummy. As the sugars dries out, natural sugar forms around the skin. It’s very sweet .🤤😊

Enjoyed watching John share his thoughts and memories.John’s early life in Japan is very interesting and it gave him a unique perspective and experience in Japan.
Love the scale and size of Fujinoyima. The lack of tall buildings and relatively little traffic makes it a pleasant walking environment.

I remember passing through this city on our way to Shiraito falls and Lake Tanuki in 2017. Reminds of happy memories from my trip here. Thanks for sharing!

This was a super cool livestream, John! So glad both you and Kanae did this stream together. I've never heard of Fujinomiya. I took the Shinkansen from Shinagawa to Mt. Fuji where once I got off the Shink I had to jump onto a local train that took me to the bus station that drove people to Mt. Fuji itself. I don't recall where that bus station was located but I would have loved to spend the day walking around the town to see what they had in the area.
You guy are lucky to go different place it look like a lot of fun be safe

I am watching on 5th Jan a very clear view of Mount Fuji it fulfills the happiness of a new year.
18:18 Kuretake Inn is where I stayed and they have an amazing onsen on the ground floor. There is an indoor one and another next to it where the roof is made out of bamboo. So when it rains or snows and you are chilling in the onsen, it feels amazing!

The shrine was so peaceful last time I was there. Only a few people and a wedding photoshoot was happening. I remember flock of pigeons were not even afraid when I was walking near them.

6:22 I got the vibe for sure that it's maybe underrated for tourists but I certainly liked it. For me, I quite liked walking the streets at night there as it was so quiet and felt like I had the place to myself. There are fewer things open after a certain time but I didn't mind that. It was almost like a quest to find a ramen restaurant still open later at night lol.

That was fun! Nice to visit Fujinomiya virtually (I did not watch live :) ) Thank you. (Hachiya kaki, the longer kind is skinned and hung to dry just before ripening, in the process the outer surface produces minuscule sugar particles. I just got 20 of them from my friend's tree, but too late to dry, they are very ripe.) We also got four Kaki from the store like you had, for tada $16.
4:48 I sat in that area to have some really nice soba noodles. There's an open water fountain there was as well so you can have some fresh fuji mountain water too. I went back for multiple refills. :)

9:44 Shout out for The Blue's Noodles. I went there for dinner one night and its a nice, small cosy restaurant. It was on my way back to my hotel after a long afternoon of walking and taking snaps with my camera.

Brazilian people call persimmon “caqui”, and it sounds pretty much like the Japanese word. Just a random fact. :D I think they introduced this fruit to us.
Same in Italy, one fruit is informally called "caco" but the tree name, and both standard singular and plural forms of the word are "cachi" (all hard c sounds, seldomely you find them spelled "kaki" too). The name is indeed directly derived from Japanese.

i have taken some pieces of chicken from the freezer from the cooked chicken i sliced up the other day and ill have it with mashed potatoe and tinned marrofat peas and gravy

In Gifu the Yanagase shopping district is literally a ghost district. I wish that the government would offer better rent rates to local shop/ to be owners to help promote local growth.

nice food sadly angels i a having to get rid of some of the food from my cupboard and freezer and carbonated water and carbonated tins of pop as i had polyps removed and i have been told i have colitus so i am not allowed to eat certain foods and i phoned the food bank in our town they dont take frozen foods nor drink and suggested i take the tinned foods to the pick up point at supemarkets but i cant drive i use buses and there to heavy for me to carry so looks likes its going in the dustbins
I don’t know if a had a good persimmon or not, but when I ate a persimmon, it tasted sweet, but it made my mouth feel dry like sand
