I'm always amazed at how much the quality of film had progressed by this time. 94/95 Madonna's Human Nature, TLC's Creep, Michael and Janet Scream vs. the Music Video's released only a year or so before 1992/1993. It's like a blink and there it was. Fascinating👽
stunning video, stunning song, stunning woman! Vanessa is one of my favorite chicks from the 90s, such a great singer and a wonderful actress, such a pleasure to watch her on the screen, she's so vivid and looks so organically.
I loved when Vanessa made music like this. It wasn't long after this that the train went off the track for her music career. She definitely had/has the talent, but she abandoned this style and her "The right stuff"/"The comfort zone" type r&b, which was most of what her fans loved. I miss this Vanessa, she was great back then. If you don't know, check out the singles from her albums "The right stuff" (Dreamin', Darlin' I, etc.) and "The comfort zone" and you will see what i mean.
As a day 1, I totally agree..Vanessa's pursuit of a Career across the Broadway stage and Film plus the constant fighting with her record label for having babies, was more than enough reason to abandon that Image and style of music her day 1s Love her most for. She always had a love hate relationship with the music Industry since losing her first publishing deal and hits "Girlfriend" "My Proragative" for getting Pregnant. Yes, Pebbles did steal "Girlfriend" while Vanessa was Pregnant tho. Go fiqure. But if peeps really go waaay back to early interviews you will clearly understand she only (USED) the music industry to establish a credible Image, an Image she could create and control hence to be taken more seriously as an Actress!.. She wasnt getting serious roles early on after Ms. America, and it was her husband idea for her to consider recording as a way to control her image post "Ms.Raunchy America". A decade later, she went on to receive rave reviews (unlike ANY of her peers both Dead or Alive) in her 1st Broadway run in "Kiss of the Spiderwoman" and she basically ditched music, and has been acting ever since..Success is the Best Revenge!
@@dlw1221 What do you mean by she ditched music? She made three more albums, her latest being in 2009. I don't know what the original poster's talking about, she's great on every album...if they can't appreciate her evolving styles, that's too bad. I'm late to her music, but she's amazing to me.
@@starrgazer9 It's called a "recording contract" for a reason, and Vanessa "signed" on for 6 then re-negotions kicked in and she went on to Jazz related label, after which she lost me.
@@dlw1221 That's too bad that she lost you, although I'm not sure why. She incorporated Jazz elements in The Sweetest Days. Add to that she studied Classical/Jazz, so it was a natural path for her to take. But different strokes for different folks of course.
I've heard this song way back and couldn't find the name of it until a couple days ago using Sound Hound. She's a wonderful singer and has a lot of talent.
This song took a few listens before I started to appreciate it. Man, does Vanessa have a couple of extra joints connecting her hips? I've never seen a woman move her hips in so many different directions in such quick succession. She never ceases to amaze.
@@ISVVVc628 I think this is the "remixed" version as the Original CD version sounded "dated" to her when it was time for release. Rodney's is way more "street" this isn't his. Rodney's is a banger tho
@ncatina She thought that the album version was outdated when this video was shot in early 1995. This remix was probably recorded in late 1994/January 1995, as the album version is from 1993. She started making this album in early/mid-1993 and finished it in October 1994. I like the 1993 version on the album.
Not a single won of her peers can serve "unmatched beauty" and sex on the same platter without the lift of an single eyebrow. A Sex siren who's beauty still goes unmatched. 16 Grammy noms for a stellar body of criminally underrated work in which 5 belong to the the very whitewashed yet mainstream hit "Save the Best For the very Last". The Oscar award winning smash hit "Colors of the Wind" was Disney's way of saying "sorry" for refusing to give her the Lead vocal performance of the Lion King back in the late 80s. Although given first dibs on the very filthy "Monsters Ball" I couldn't really see her throwing down on that dirty used carpet the way Halle was told to do in exchange for an Award tho?. Anyway, Vanessa still gave memorable performances in Soul Food, Dance with Me, Eraser, and the made for TV musical Bye bye Birdie cant forget Ugly Betty's Ms. Slater, landing her three Emmy noms either. I've heard her pass on the lead in "Boomerang" was the infamous (sex scene) and Spike lee's school daze (Preggers). Nontheless, not a single one of her peers Dead or alive can come close to a Vanessa Williams resume. Real triple threat status unlike the media induced ones of the late 80s and 90s.
Love her , love her music and career. Legendary! This video reminds me of Brandy though (the beat , the dark braids lol.) cute though! xo I would've given her blonde braids or honey blonde or brown.
😂its been awhile i haven't herd this song i like it 😊👍 oh and i notice something about this song to its about you know you drive me crazzey because u do 😂😂😂
Love Vanessa my fav, the braids would have been better if they were actually braids this looks like a rachel dolezal wig, but you can tell she had a good time making this video.
@jsull81079 Hmm...well this album was a bit different than Comfort Zone itself. Her first 3 albums were that fusion of dance, pop, r&b, and jazz to varying degrees. But I think this album had a more Jazz slant and Comfort Zone was more of a mixed bag, both r&b but different focuses. I think you're referring to Next which was a very good album but mostly r&b/pop. I think what she did on each album was indicative of the times.
hey there doaplu...i just happened to pop back here :-p I would still think a movie with those two as sisters or action agents even...would be block buster!
I remember watching this music video on MTV (in the 90s) or on TMF (old Dutch music channel) but not knowing that it was Vanessa Williams on it. I think she looked like Deborah Cox, with those braids.
at first the braids sting you... but then immediately after they with the look of this video and ESP the sexiness and class of vanessa r/t manner in which she accentuates her lips the braids are perfect... vanessa adds class and sexiness to anything she does or wears Peace
I don't remember this album. I never invested in it. I know _Colors of the Wind,_ but that's about it. Anyway, 1994... That was a tricky years for 80's and New Jack artists. They were starting to get phased out because of hip-hop/r&b (Mary J. Blige). Don't remember this record, but I like it.
While this version is fine, I actually prefer the original mix on her "The Sweetest Days" CD. This remix always reminded me a little too much of Brandy's song "Baby" which was out around the same time. All things considered, Vanessa could sing the phone book and it would sound great!
@jsull81079 After that was a jazzy covers album and The Real Thing was a jazz album. So I feel like she covered it pretty nicely. There's not a Vanessa Williams album that I haven't enjoyed, no matter what genre. Perhaps she feels she matured, in that she can't follow what others want her to do but she has to find a niche for herself that works well for her. Now I wouldn't be opposed to another Comfort Zone in theory but I really am not sure today's sounds in r&b/dance/pop would really suit her.
@marbie83 Yes it was a look for the 90's Janet Jackson did them in Poetic Justice. Not so much for Vanessa. Vanessa is stylized and just gives it to you!! Love her
I LIKE HER IN HER REGULAR HAIR BETTER AND NOT BRAIDS ITS PROBABLY BECAUSE THATS WHAT I GOT USE TO. BUT I AM STILL A BIG BIG VANESSA WILLIAMS FAN. NO HOMO, BUT SHE IS SO SO PRETTY. SHE IS MY IDOL.
Vanessa tried 2 new things that did not flatter her: Braids and dancing! The video was more of a caricature of the r/b women of the 90s, and it was not her best work. That said: She has had more highs than lows with television, movies, and music, so Take That Miss America pageant!!
This is the jam but this is the not the smooth seductive mellow version. If anyone is interested in the more seductive mellow version you need to check out the LP version which is also on You Tube. Both versions are good it just depends on what mood you are in.
@MzSarenaX : Looking Decent and Cute with Braids doesn't mean a person looks Classy. Vanessa looks way better with her Natural Hair Styles. She doesn't look so Classy with the Braids, Although she has more Class in her Pinky Finger than Most have in their entire Body! LOVE VANESSA. The Braids take away from her Usual Classy appearance.
I'm Mezzzmerized by this video. The music sounds fresh; sexy R & B ...the dude with the shades and washboard working it behind her is PERFECT with her....so sexy with it...and I know Vanessa's braids are a bit much but if you look at the video (over and over and over) like I did, you appreciate it for what it is...she is unparalleled in beauty, sexiness, versatility, smoothness. Bet Wilhemina Slater can still roll with it! Vanessa is my GIRL-CRUSH like Angelina Jolie is to some women.
Vanessa is giving me 1995 Video Soul realness in this video...gorgeous! She truly is one of the most stunning women of all time. Loved this song!
