In the same category falls "Promise me" by Beverly Craven. A huge hit at a time though musically it was no longer into 80-ties. Arranged and usually performed in the style of "vocal nocturne" brings the emotional story of incoming separation starting with growing fear and anxiety but ending in acceptable consolation. Ability to write open message and enclose it with appropriate music has long been lost.
For me there’s a big difference between the over-the-top cheesy pop of that period and the rich ballads like this, as well as a lot of the studio versions of the prime Disney decade, the ‘90s.
Clearly the most beautiful woman to ever live. This song came out in January of 1992. I was sad and young and lonely and hopeless. I heard this song while working at a bar/restaurant. It was late evening. There was light snow in a place that rarely ever has snow. And the woman who sings this song that night didn't, couldn't know it, but by her song, she gave me romance and the idea of love and happiness and hope. And now it's been a long time since then and maybe there was no real reason to hope for happiness after all. But that night I felt it and have never forgotten it. Thanks, V You'll always be my Miss America.

A lot of 90's melody (like this) was very much piano, beautiful voice and dreamy romance vibes. We grew up as kids believing this is what life was about. Guys, we lived some of the best musical times, ever produced. I shall cherish them.

“Living well is the best revenge”- Vanessa Williams epitomised that. After being wrongly humiliated in 1984 (for nothing) she just got on with it and lived her best life and career. This superb song echoes that ❤️
@@debraross666 wonderful song this is, and one can understand every magic word. Back in those days songs really had feeling to them. As a young man back then, i cannot remember any of my mates not falling in love with Vanessa Williams, myself included 😂
This song makes me feel nostalgic for the early 90’s. Beautiful song from a beautiful time in my life, back when the world seemed wonderful and filled with hope. I long for that time. Man, how time flies...
I was a sophomore in high school when this song came out and had a crush on a guy who was a junior, I used to listen to this song hoping it would turn out the same. I had first seen him in junior high, the crush lasted 4 years and he never even knew I existed. During that time I wasn't interested in anyone else and I didn't even date anyone. After high school, I eventually dated other people but I never felt the same about anyone. I was infatuated with an ideal but I never even knew what he was like, I just saw him from afar and turned him into the perfect guy.
As a typical compound African boy I never understood this song in 90's, but i felt peace, love and calmness each time this song played, now in my 40's understanding it absolutely still invokes peace, love and calmnes to my soul. I really LOVE it. Thanks to God for the gift of music !!!

I still remember when I saw the music video in the '90's . I was mesmerized and fascinated by her beauty. She's awesome. And later I could understand the lyrics and the meaning and I could relate to it very deeply. This song is very very important for me , honestly I can not stop listening , singing this song. I just love it :-)
Excellent lyrics. Beautiful singer, voice, and song. ❤ Sometimes you're looking for love but not realizing that it's right in front of you. Don't miss that opportunity. 💯
Not many songs speak of such an enduring love; we are rather selfish, get discouraged, tired of crying, of waiting, of suffering, of longing, of dreaming. Yet, true love prevails. How many men or women can understand where true love is in order to give their best to that one who deserves it and is worthy? Blessings! Wonderful song.
It;s so sad that we'll no longer have megahits with this type of ballad these days. Oh, how music had evolved. Gone are the days of powerful love songs and love ballads.
I hate almost all the new music in America today. It's all garbage rap or junk curse words. I can't remember a song I've heard recently that sounds as good as the 90s
@@unskillfullymasterful Try some Lumineers or Home Free or Peter Hollins. Those are newer singers that are pretty good. I get what your saying majority of modern music is crap. But you can sometimes find newer stuff that is good. Vanessa Carlton her song "Thousand Miles" is early 2000s and is pretty great.
That is the same thing I said in 1984 when Vanessa Williams became Miss America. Thankfully that organization Finally apologized to her. It only took about 34 years.
Hell yeah and she turned humiliation and adversity into a successful career. Her name was out there and she used that to her advantage. Love you Vanessa. God bless you always.
Vanessa Williams is one of my favorite pop singers. She doesn't really do 'vocal acrobatics' like Mariah Carey or Christina Aguilera, but the stuff she does sing just fits so well.
Petey Wheatstraw She has great voice timbre, and how she accentuates her words, there's no need for her to run a bunch of notes -- no need for vocal gymnastics.
Take me back to the early 90s when this song was released. I remember dancing to it with my prom date....good times, good music, good vibes all around. Sure miss those days
This takes me back to my high school days, when Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, and Vanessa Williams were cranking out the hits. I didn't have a care in the world back then. How the times have changed...
Yup I was a freshman 91 experiencing new sounds new music clothes and trends. It was like the world changed in every way from the end of 89 to 90 and this video made me fall in Love with R&B. God shes beautiful in this.
My favourite dj from Metro fm in South Africa used to play these songs early in the morning 3 to 6am late 90s while I was studying for my college exams. My mum would wake up and sit up with me. You are a beautiful woman your self I hope you get the job your looking for and have a lovely life 😘
She is gorgeous!
belle la chanson comme elle
@@jennymach yep.sure is..
I’ll never forget the moment I heard this song…. Stopped me in my tracks. Still does to this day!
One of those songs bro. Late 80s & early 90s made some of the best music hands down!
Back when they put heart and soul into music, and left out the propaganda ingredients.
It came out the time when I thought I saved the best for last but that didn't happen until a few years ago!! We were blessed even if it was only for a short time love you always SK❤
Me too it has very special meaning for me..
Likewise. 😉
She nailed this one so deep in the ground that the snow came down in June!!! Beautiful, serene, and mesmerizing track--the biggest hit of her career.
A timeless classic by a classic beauty. Vanessa Williams defines class. ❤
“Living well is the best revenge”- Vanessa Williams epitomised that. After being wrongly humiliated in 1984 (for nothing) she just got on with it and lived her best life and career. This superb song echoes that ❤️
Yes , she blew up none stop.2-07-2023 still listening.
I like her a lot, like her songs, personality, everything abt her.
ABSOLUTELY!!
Loved how she dusted herself off and rose above it.
@@debraross666 wonderful song this is, and one can understand every magic word. Back in those days songs really had feeling to them. As a young man back then, i cannot remember any of my mates not falling in love with Vanessa Williams, myself included 😂
What year was this please?
This song is timeless, it could be from any decade and still be as beautiful
formamos b om
This song makes me feel nostalgic for the early 90’s. Beautiful song from a beautiful time in my life, back when the world seemed wonderful and filled with hope. I long for that time. Man, how time flies...
Yeah
I was a sophomore in high school when this song came out and had a crush on a guy who was a junior, I used to listen to this song hoping it would turn out the same. I had first seen him in junior high, the crush lasted 4 years and he never even knew I existed. During that time I wasn't interested in anyone else and I didn't even date anyone. After high school, I eventually dated other people but I never felt the same about anyone. I was infatuated with an ideal but I never even knew what he was like, I just saw him from afar and turned him into the perfect guy.
Yes
i am also 90s kid....music was so nice...
bleep77 how the world has changed ..miss those beautiful times
The number one gem in my life time..Dear Vanessa, this song equals 1 million songs..
As a typical compound African boy I never understood this song in 90's, but i felt peace, love and calmness each time this song played, now in my 40's understanding it absolutely still invokes peace, love and calmnes to my soul. I really LOVE it. Thanks to God for the gift of music !!!
Absolutely...... I understood it then, I understand it now even better. Age definitely makes u wiser n appreciate things more.
you just grew up and evolved
you sound like a lovely human being, god bless you
And God gave us war.
You had your own lyrics
"sometimes the very thing you're looking for is the one thing you can't see". so true!
comment is deep but context is not shown.. i am not stupid to ask that throw some light. u should have done that while posting.
@@rjpanwar are you f*cking kidding me? those were the the lyrics from the song that any average joe should understand the context. you are stupid! next time i'll draw a picture for you. lmao!
One of the most prettiest women that has ever lived!!
Because she's Miss America 1984.
N
She is very beautiful and talented😁
@@deejay2023jvr but she got banned right?
Seriously pretty
Another great voice… It’s got to be an awesome feeling to know that you are someone’s last love
We don’t look for old songs, they look for us… 🙏🏽
I guess you are right buddy. The 80s reigh !
❤Awe!!!
Sometimes our taxes turn to us,
Sometimes our work is what it's worth,
Just when I caught a pant's ballast,
You go and shave a monkey's ass
This song really writes itself
Amen
@@rorychivers8769Wow! That was pretty poetic.
Hard to believe this song is now 30 years old. I remember how big a bit it was in 1992. Good old days and fond memories
omg didnt know that this song was from 1992!! used to hear it on radio and took me months searching for its title since the first time I heard it.
🥴😳 omg it is!!!
Yep around the same time as Mariah Carey's Emotions and Celine Dion's Beauty and the Beast.
@@raegibson3066 Yeah I was listening to Celine Dions self titled album from 1992 the other day along with Colour of My Love from 1993. These also bring back good memories.
Same I never thought this song would turn 30 years old. I remember this song used to be on FM radio a lot when the song was released in 1992.
This woman can sing and act. Very beautiful and talented in total class!! :)
l love u and you and your music
+Flenif2247 Yes, it happened just a few months after she was crowned Miss Teen USA. It broke my heart to learn that she was stripped of her title soon afterwards. Anyways she's always been one of my most fave singers.
vanessa williams's voice is very clear, even non english speakers won't have any problem listening each word , great singer and actor.
This is one of the most beautiful songs of all time. This brings me to my childhood, when times were easier. 😪
I was born a year after this was first heard on the radio.
I still remember when I saw the music video in the '90's . I was mesmerized and fascinated by her beauty. She's awesome. And later I could understand the lyrics and the meaning and I could relate to it very deeply. This song is very very important for me , honestly I can not stop listening , singing this song. I just love it :-)
Taylor Muse wow well said my brother
Lol. Times weren't easier. You were just a child.
osimeon00 damn you beat me to it 😂😂😂
I give props to the keyboard player...the keyboard player put emotion into this song because you can feel it.
Beauty Queen, intelligent, great actress, great dancer and a songbird ❤🌟✨💫
Each word, seems hand-picked, the precision of the sounds make it one of the best songs ever sung.
Thank you for expressing this profound and yet poetic description of love.
She has such a lovely voice. I love this beautiful song, and beautiful person. Happy 60th Birthday to Vanessa Williams! ❤️❤️🥳🎉🎊 03/18/2023
@Can Yaman HEY, WATCH IT. GENIUS. IT'S MY GIRL VANESSA L. WILLIAMS I'M TALKIN' ABOUT, MY FRIEND. 🤨

She is absolutely one of the most beautiful women ever!
Agree!
Indeed, and a terrific actress too! I have plenty of her movies on DVD.

damn… life was so cool and we took it for granted.. Now with kids of our own.. Wow.. I miss the 90s
90’s were golden
I bet you're still cool Lizzy!

100 %
ALRIGHT, LOOK. I MISS THE 90s, TOO., BUT I WILL ALWAYS LOVE VANESSA L. WILLIAMS SO VERY MUCH.....FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART.
It;s so sad that we'll no longer have megahits with this type of ballad these days. Oh, how music had evolved. Gone are the days of powerful love songs and love ballads.
I totally agree how music and relationships have changed...sad
Hard out agree ❤
I hate almost all the new music in America today. It's all garbage rap or junk curse words. I can't remember a song I've heard recently that sounds as good as the 90s
@@unskillfullymasterful Try some Lumineers or Home Free or Peter Hollins. Those are newer singers that are pretty good. I get what your saying majority of modern music is crap. But you can sometimes find newer stuff that is good. Vanessa Carlton her song "Thousand Miles" is early 2000s and is pretty great.
@@morrigankasa570 oh I don't mind that one, but to be honest I didn't care for it til I heard one ok rock covering it lol
Most beautiful woman ever with an incredible voice and an actress. Timeless. 2024 and counting.
God she is beyond beautiful, it's insane.
I agree 100%, and hot a welding rod.
That is the same thing I said in 1984 when Vanessa Williams became Miss America. Thankfully that organization Finally apologized to her. It only took about 34 years.
Stunning, massively talented, courageous, proud, dignified...
Vanessa Williams is the complete woman.
Mariah still sings stop hating Mariah is the why mariah is on the top 5 voices...
Betty Garica because she lip syncs that's why! Vanessa has always been more talented and classy than Mariah synchy
Dan Kramer Mariah is a better Vocalist and a superior Songwriter so stop reaching😂😂
everlasting love songs
She's an angel.... 100% beautiful , that voice ,those eyes amazing
Gorgeous and extremely talented. This hits harder as you get older. Still loving it and listening in 2023 and beyond.
Take me back to the early 90s when this song was released. I remember dancing to it with my prom date....good times, good music, good vibes all around. Sure miss those days
I love this song. Hoping in a hopeless situation..
It’s Christmas Eve 2018, I’m sipping wine and enjoying this great song from the beautiful Ms Vanessa Williams........Priceless

She’s beautiful in every way.
This takes me back to my high school days, when Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, and Vanessa Williams were cranking out the hits. I didn't have a care in the world back then. How the times have changed...
Yeah, little did we know about adult life....
Yup I was a freshman 91 experiencing new sounds new music clothes and trends. It was like the world changed in every way from the end of 89 to 90 and this video made me fall in Love with R&B. God shes beautiful in this.

She has such amazing voice. I am in tears when hearing this song.❤
I smiled like an idiot all the way through this. How can someone be so beautiful and talented?
You have to ignore the replies of idiots who don't have a clue about anything good in life
clenny74 I still can’t believe they allow children onto TH-cam? There should be a minimum age restriction of 18+
Thank God there are 🙌🏻
You sort of resemble Vanessas exe husband Rick Fox judging by your thumbnail at least. Hey I agree, the song makes me smile too!!
Beautiful woman and beautiful voice.

Today we are not allowed to tell a woman she's beautiful. Sad!
My favourite dj from Metro fm in South Africa used to play these songs early in the morning 3 to 6am late 90s while I was studying for my college exams. My mum would wake up and sit up with me. Memories don't live like ppl do. God being great my mum is still here, but my dj is in heaven. Thank you mr Zondi for staying up with me while I was making my life and God bless Vanessa and the likes.
God has a plan for everyone one of us ....
RIP Eddie Zondi... What a local legend.
A world class master piece indeed! Thank you Vanessa.❤
Her voice is a gift to all who hear it.
