Waiting Too Long To Breed Your Rabbits

It is best to get your rabbits bred before they reach 1 year of age (and after 6 months). But what happens if you wait longer? Can you still start breeding them when they are much older than a year?

Thank you so much for addressing this for me Chris! We will be breeding both of them in 2 weeks. If they take then wonderful, if not then my daughter will continue to show them as one of them got best in fair this year and have 2 wonderful additions to the family. We'll get a younger doe that is proven if we have no success with these 2. Just another day learning something new. Binge watching all your videos.....loving them!

A friend had virus kill all her bucks . She had a doe 18 months old that had not been breed .her only buck She had was too young and the doe wasn't interested . so she asked me to put a mature buck over her hoping it might make a difference and it did. Now I'm waiting to see if it took. Great subject this problem does come up a lot.

Solid advice, never delay for too long or you will be replacing your doe, similar applies for rebreeding, there is more to breeding rabbits than people think, not all rabbits breed like (as the saying goes) rabbits.

Hey not sure if I saw it on your channel or another channel (been going through a ton of videos!) .. but it was mentioned to mate rabbits close to the same age .. my rabbit(doe) is maaaaaybe 3yrs .. and my sister came to visit.. I built a little cage for her rabbit(buck, 1yr) .. and he broke out n was with my rabbit for a number of hours unattended.. id seen him try to mount her before so I assumed they had enough time to get it on, unseen .. and my rabbit has been trying to build a nest and now at about 15 days she’s moody and growling .. So I’m sure she’s pregnant at this point but will that 2yr age difference lead to issues in the kits?

My question is how to get and keep mice and rats away from your rabbits. My rabbits are getting rat poop in their feeders. I'm going crazy trying to keep the rats out of their food. And i worry about the rats eating the babies.

Rabbits do better with cold than heat including buck fertility. So breed spring, fall, winter (if you can keep the water liquid and check often for under 2 weeks old kits out of the nestbox).

Please sheet middle of cage with something, I mean around cage is ok to be nothing bc they poop pee just corners but middle of the cage please place something is pain for their paws…by my experience… please

There's a product called "wet tails" that you can buy at your local farm store. Diarrhea can kill a rabbit in 24 hours so don't wait.
