    Note: I misspoke. When breeding, we always take the doe to the bucks cage, not the other way around.

      Suggest you to redo or modify your video. Your comment here is not adequate. You knocked me over with your error. Newbies are listening and might not see reason to go to the comments and they could end up making this mistake. Also, smaller item. Do not even suggest incandescent bulbs since LEDs are so available and lower heat. They also create a more natural light that would be healthier for the rabbit than the incandescent which is so obsolete.

    Thanks for your videos- I’m learning so much. I plan to breed rabbits for the first time ever, March 1st! You said “take the buck to the doe’s cage”? Did you mean to say the opposite?

    I thought the doe should always be taken to the buck's cage to prevent the doe from becoming territorial.

    How often do you want to breed the rabbits if they are not used to being breed? I have a buck that did have a successful breeding and after that the DOE didn't want to be breed again?

    • @westmeadowrabbits
      @westmeadowrabbits  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      One "fall" (successful breeding) is usually enough. If you can get two or three, so much the better, but usually one is plenty.

    I have a new unproven buck that's apparently bites pretty hard. Anything I can do to thwart that behavior? I think he's just frustrated at the doe (she's new too).

    • @westmeadowrabbits
      @westmeadowrabbits  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately no. Is he on the younger side? Aggression towards the doe from the buck is much less common then the other way around. If he is older I would consider culling.

    @west meadow Rabbits
    Some good information,thanks.
    We started with 10 does and one buck around March this year, the cages we had made for them couldn't fit in their intended house,so we temporarily put the cages in our garagethe cages were all net wire and mesh.
    The breeding was all ok,only two didn't breed.
    So we made other wooden cages and transferred them all plus the new members,kits, from the garage to the wooden cages and we also aquired another buck,first mistake it's fat,mistake number two I agree our cages are dark,we have tried breeding since may nothing,..either the does mount the bucks ,or the bucks just tries like once or twice to mount the doe and they start pampering each other nothing goes on,we have tried vitamins,nothing no breeding,will share the wooden cages design and advice,or you can check on my channel and advice,I will appreciate,but there's a bulb in their rooms where the cages are.
    I guess I have to look for a leaner buck , light in the cages,even though the initial buck served us we'll in March and April,nowdays nothing goes on.do I need to change it also,may be.
    TIA .

      It could be a lot of things and its hard to tell by just looking. Your setup looks great so I doubt that it is the problem. Make sure your does aren't to old before breeding and don't go to long between breeding's. You want to start breeding them at six months, and breed them at least three times a year. If they go a while without breeding its difficult to get them going again. Otherwise just keep trying!

      @@westmeadowrabbits Thanks ,will keep on trying ,I must say it's a whole learning process ,each day that passes by, new thing.Initially bloat and coccidia gave us unending headaches ,but as beginners I must say we are at 75% ok,not badly off as I have heard stories where begginers lost all their parent stock,we won't give up ,we have put them also on multivitamins,this is day four, hopefully in a day or two again we try breeding.

    Hi Sam, I am new to raising meat rabbits and my 3 does and 2 bucks have never been breed. After watching your video, you suggest putting an experienced doe with a new buck and vice a versa. Well since I have all virgins and want to succeed, what do you suggest? 🙏 Poppy

    • @westmeadowrabbits
      @westmeadowrabbits  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's a situation many people find themselves in! This is a tough time of year to breed rabbits that have never been bred before. My advice is to just start and see what happens, then refine from there.
