I just buried my first litter today none of them made it and she is a first time mother thank you so much for this video this clarified a lot and now I’m less stressed out
Same here. That's why we came to find the video. She fed 2/4 of them and left them uncovered. Hopefully we'll have better luck next time. We have another 1st timer due to kindle tomorrow, now I'm mentally preparing.
I had my first kits ever come in yesterday. Two does, 6 kits each. All are happy warm and wriggling so far. Thank you so much for all your advice and information, Chris. It's been invaluable.
Thanks I needed this. My rabbit lost her first litter of four over a two week period. She's rebred now and due in couple weeks. It was her first time. Hope all's well this time.
Thank you so much for this video, I have four new does. Between the four of them I lost 32 babies. They were all first-time mothers. That was about one week ago, January 15, 2021 to January 19, 2021 they were all bread a day apart. They all lost all of their babies. After seeing this video I don’t feel so bad. I will take your advice and start re-breeding them next week.
My rabbit gave birth yesterday to 8 baby bunnies late afternoon indoors in her cage. We found the babies within 45 minutes. They were not moving all. We tried reviving them with warm water and blow dryer, but no success. She was pulling hair and nesting, but she did not put them in the nexting box, so I feel maybe she is just not healthy. I am not sure if my rabbit is a good mother.

I rescued a cottontail baby from my friends dog last week, it was probably 9-10 days old. I nursed it with tons of love and kmr all week and it literally was living its best life for six days and this morning it was dead in the box sitting upright normally. I’m so distraught
I don't think your crazy. As long as you are prepared to empty dropping trays pretty much every day. If you can build an outside enclosure for them it is really much easier but that is totally up to you.
My 6 baby rabbits are about 40 days old and their mom died today. Can they survive on their own? If not how do i save them? They are eating regular food now but i dont know what to do.
Thanks slightly. My 2 new does were dead already when they came out. They were not breathing. I was too worried...now i m a bit relieved after seeing this.
Great video! My last litter was 10. They we're about 2 1/2 weeks old and I found one froze to the wire floor. Must of hung on to mom when she jumped out after feeding or something. Thanks again for the video!
I am not sure what you are asking exactly. If you are asking about re breeding the doe, then I would wait a week and then go ahead and re breed her. I hope that was it.
HELP Chris - Had a second successful litter; babies month old and 1 out of 9 yesterday was having a seizure and is dead this am. Rest are fine and eating. WHAT could have happened? You're so right about first litters; they die:( What would we do without your advice?
My first time mum rabbit just had 7 babies she's done everything right. Pulled fur had the babies in the nest cleaned them off perfectly covered them up with her fluff. If she's done everything right so far do I need to worry if she's feeding them?
I lost my whole litter of 11 kits at about 3-5 weeks old. They seamed to have seizures. They where all being fed and looked lively. Then we started two lose two a day. Any idea what could have happened? Right now she's on her second litter and I'm praying the 8 she just had all make it. ❤️
Is it possible that they got to some moldy hay or feed? That is the first thing that comes to mind. It could be weaning enteritis but that is unlikely if they are still with the mother.
Ours, on her third litter, lost three of the 12 at the beginning and then one died two days later, and then two died a couple of days later but then when they were almost 4 weeks old, she killed two of them by thumping them to death and the next day she killed three more. We only have one remaining. It is so sad we’re not going to breed her again.
Our doe just had her 3rd litter and had 9 kits. One was born on the cage and died, and 2 died in the nesting box. We decided to bring the 6 in for the night because it was in the 20’s that night. Left them covered in the nesting box and 2 more died in our 67 degree house. All of the babies were cold so we warmed them up and took them back outside so the mom could feed them. It ended up being 60 degrees that day and the rest of them were dead by 4pm. I had a nesting box full of hay, covered the bottom with cardboard and filled it up with straw and kiln dried wood chips. They were all still so cold even tho they were covered. I just don’t understand how they died on a 60 degree day in a nesting box and were cold to the touch.
my mother rabbit had 2 kits at the cage floor before make a nest which died after a while. After few hours she built a nest and had 5 new kits all alive. why is that?
So do bunnies not feel any sympathy towards their dead babies? Like if a human baby died at the hospital but the human moms had bunny mom mentality it just be like whatever?
Hello Chris just wanna say thanks for the advice and just wanna tell u about my rabbit they are 13 days old now and already started to jump out of the nest box
Just lost a first time mom's litter of 4. Mom was in great shape. They were just about a week old looked very healthy and were even starting to come out of there house. All died last night. I'm thinking they got too hot as they went at the same time, it was about 30C. Have you seen this before?
I will see what I can do. Unfortunately, there are many things that can cause this issue and it can be very difficult to treat. The key is to determine what caused it. It could be from trauma or a simple ear infection but can also be caused by parasites as well. I am afraid I can't really tell you how to treat it in your rabbit.
I have a mom that had a good litter and then her second they all died. In fact all of my rabbits have had their babies die for the past 4 breedings. Still can’t figure out what’s going wrong
i have a doe that has raised one litter of 4 successfully but her second litter of 11 one was stilborn, and within 24 hrs she managed to crush all the rest, im going to give it another shot. hopefully it wasnt intentional. she fed them the 1st day and made a good nest
I have an older doe that just had one kit which died. I was guessing maybe it was because she only had one kit and that kit didn't have any siblings to lay next to and stay warm. I have a nice nesting box, full of straw and she pulled plenty of fur. Your thoughts?
Hello, mine lost all four of her baby rabbits they were all two weeks old I don’t know what could of happend they were starting to eat on their own any ideas why??? Thank you!
Can someone please help my had a bigger litter. She had 11 live one stillborn. 3 of the 11 were smaller. One of the smaller ones passed away 2 days later. They will be 3 weeks tomorrow. Today I came home to find 1 of the babies that were healthy and well fed passed away. The only thing I could see that was wrong is the bunnies bottom was wet and matted. And now I have noticed it on a few of the others. What could of caused this?
My boy bunny ran away for a month. He came back acting weird , i took him to the vet on 12/21 the dr told me he was healthy but prescribed antibiotics and flea meds. Fast forward to today, he is actually a she and had 4 dead kits in his cage, he… she got pregnant by one of the stray neighborhood rabbits. 😭 I’m so freaking sad! I feel terrible. I also asked the vet to check Salem’s genitalia to confirm if he was a boy which the vet lied about and said they did. But i feel so guilty for not knowing . Poor baby bunnies . I’m just so confused why they all died . They must’ve been born yesterday, none of them looked attacked or injured. Just dead. I wish i knew what happened
He already explained that. 1. She (mom) probably didn't eat well - malnutrition. 2. Born outside of nest - they chill and pass away. 3. First time Mom's often don't know what to do. 4. If she wasn't being fed correctly to feed herself while on the run, she wouldn't be able to feed her own kits. 5. Vet not knowing she's pregnant (& not even able to tell the difference in genders) and giving medication that may have been bad for the pregnancy. So many reasons really.
what food can we give to the rabbit? my rabbit have 7kids but now there only 3 left we dont know how they died. but it doesnt matter now , we just want to know what food can we give to the rabbit so she can produce more milk to the other who still alive. please help mee.. notice me please.
I got a baby that's blue and white and is prob 8 weeks old and is a holland lop doe and I noticed she looks to the left and right alot. Thought it was fluff in her way of seeing but I think it's neurological and I got her to breed with my boy that's about 14 weeks when she gets older. Now I'm worried about breeding her. She's got dark eyes like a brown color so she's not red eye or albino so should I not breed her? Not breeding for show just breeding for pets. I'm new to bunnies so I'm new to all this and trying to learn as much as possible.
Hey Chris, I have pair of bunnies and the dough gave birth to 5 babies, first time mother, babies were a week old, two of them just died today mysteriously. I think they died because of lack of space in the nesting box, could it be a reason? They were the strongest babies in the litter 😭
My rabbit had a surprise litter this morning. They all seemed great and warm. Momma seemed to be doing a good job. I checked on them tonight and one was dead. I don't know what happened. They're all very warm, and covered. This one that died I tried to revive it but it was too late. I'm worried they're all going to die. It's about 35⁰f out but her pen is insulated and the nest is perfect. I don't under stand :(
As long as you have a nest box with plenty of straw and the mother has covered them with fur, they should be fine. Sometimes you do lose a baby rabbit. It is just part of life unfortunately and there isn't always a clear answer as to why. You can try to "shelve" the babies if you want to. Bring the nest box inside and take it out a couple of times a day to allow the mother to feed. But again, as long as they are in a good nest box with straw bedding and the mothers fur it really isn't necessary.
My bunny had 5 babies 6 weeks ago and yesterday 1 died, it just laid down and was shaking for a few minutes and it didn’t have any control over it’s legs so we thought he hurt himself in some way. Today when we came out in the morning 2 of them lied dead and one was shaking on the floor.. Turns out they got a virus just one week before the vaccination even tho they are supposed to be immune until like week 12. It is so sad especially since we’ve been with them every day for at least an hour and they were like family members. Now we only have one left and I don’t wanna have high hopes but I’m praying so hard he’s not affected because if he his he’ll be dead by tomorrow probably... 😢
Oh, that can be frustrating for sure. You might look into putting some cage wire over the feeder so she can still get to the feed to eat it but can't get in it to "dig" it out.
I’m not sure if you have a video on this or not, but I have had a problem the last couple of weeks with older babies anywhere from 2 weeks-5 weeks healthy one day and the next day they are dead all the other rabbits are healthy I have asked other breeders that I know and they don’t know either what’s going on. I thought maybe it was the heat but wasn’t that hot out on those days.
My bunny had only 1 baby and she started pulling hair after she had her baby and the baby made it 3-4 days she neglected it and never fed it so we tried kittens milk replacement but it soon got skinny even though we fed it often and kept it warm we’re did we go wrong 🙁 I want to try again any tips?
I am so sorry to hear that. It doesn't sound like you did anything wrong. It is very difficult to hand raise a rabbit and sometimes they just don't make it despite your best efforts. It sounds like your rabbit was a first time mother and it isn't unusual for them to have problems with their first litter. She should do much better on the next litter.
Have 3 week old orphaned rabbits. In last two days their stomachs have become very distended and they are not eating. Moved them from goats milk/tbsp whipping cream to kitten formula. Have watched a couple yr videos saying to give coconut oil or cooking oil. Would really appreciate your input.
oh no. that sounds like bloat to me and it can be very serious. You are on the right track with kitten formula. You can also add in some infant gas drops and see if that works. Good luck.
@@Slightlyrednecked pulled them through with some great advice from a farmer in Uganda. Regular ol cooking oil. Going off the kitten formula and back to the goats milk. Mixing half n half now. They quit eating for two days. Did the oil and watered down some formula to get the oil to their stomachs. Two were eating the next day. Third one needed another dose of oil. Now all three are eating and back on track.
I have two young does and a buck about10 months old I have bred them twice and at about 3 weeks they pull fur but no baby rabbits ever come I let the buck fall off 4 times I just bred them again any advice would be appreciated.
I am sorry to hear that. It can be difficult to pinpoint the problem but my guess is the doe is having failed pregnancies. She is pulling fur so she is planning on having babies. I would look at replacing her if it happens again.
It really isn't a good idea to breed siblings even if they are just half siblings. You can breed one of those rabbits back to the parent or even the unrelated parent though.
First time mother rabbit babies were two weeks old they all look fat and healthy and I took the nesting box out and now all my rabbits are dying any ideas?
Oh no, i am sorry to hear that. If you didn't change their diet in any way, you may need to add the nest box back in. It could be that night time temperatures are getting low and they need a place to snuggle. If you did change their diet, i would guess that to be the issue. Sudden changes in diet can be bad for rabbits.
5 days ago I had a litter of 9. She’s a 2nd time mom. 1 baby is much smaller than the rest & does not seem to have a round belly. Do you suggest holding her so baby can nurse? If so how do you suggest doing that?
You could try. Honestly, with a litter of 9 especially, I would just let nature takes its course and hope for the best. It is very difficult to force a rabbit to nurse and the stress it puts on the baby may not be worth it. I have had small ones like that do just fine in the long run....and other times I have lost them. it is just part of raising rabbits, you will lose one every now and then.
All my 7 died. I know I didn't prepare myself and my bun is a first time mother. I should have done more to make sure the babies were warm and all. Also seems like she wasn't feeding them. 😕 😢 I cried.
Hey can anyone tell me my newzeland white had a litter but its the wet season,so i moved them inside but my sis in law said moving them is not a good move .. what u all think??
I have a friend who's rabbit ate her 1 week old kits. Large kits. She ate the bodies and left the heads in the nest material. I had no advice to give! Do you have any advice on that?
I am sorry that you had to deal with that. It sounds like poor mothering instincts to me. Chances are, she feels threatened for some reason. Unfortunately I don't know of a great fix for that. If it is a continuing issue, I would just look at replacing her.
My doe had a big litter and as expected a few died within the first 2 days. However more died as we went on and I realized even though there nest box had lots of insulation they burrowed to the bottom where it was all above them. I through a grubby T-shirt under the nest box on the cage and then they stopped dying.
I lost last two liters of 7-10 rabbits. All die. I wonder if she got miscarriage when I cleaned the cage, put buck and doe in the same cage and they were mating?
I am sorry that you had that problem. I am afraid I can't tell you exactly what caused it but it sounds like she has poor mothering instincts if it happened multiple times in a row. I would replace her if it were me.
@@SlightlyredneckedShe is a great mother for the first liter of 7. She showed me she is a good mother. She poured her hair and made a very nice nest box with the straws. She has one liter after another immediately. Maybe she needs some time to heal her body?
My bunnies it’s a first time mom she just was never near the babies stomped on them and never fed them is that just because she’s a young first time mom
I had 4 does with babies one time that killed all and ate parts of them. Come to find out my Dad had shown a friend, the evening before, my rabbits. The friend, I knew, worked at a mink farm. Mystery solved.
Use the straw test. Just go out every other day and throw a handful of straw in her cage. When she starts gathering it up and walking around the cage with it, she is ready to build a nest. if you do that for 30 days and still nothing, she isn't pregnant. I hope that helps.
technically, yes it can be used. But it probably isn't the best option. It tends to clump together and become almost a solid blanket. you really want something that is looser. Cotton batting (like pillow stuffing) or shredded paper (as mentioned already) are good options.
I just buried my first litter today none of them made it and she is a first time mother thank you so much for this video this clarified a lot and now I’m less stressed out

I've heard that oats or steel cut oatmeal will help the does produce milk for the kits
Interesting. I have never head of that before. I will have to look into that. Thanks for sharing.
Renee I give a mix of rolled oats, pumpkin seeds, black oil sunflower seeds and that seems to bring in milk.
My bunny had 8 bunnies, and they all died because they are too small. My bunny isn't patient that much.

Now we only have one left and I don’t wanna have high hopes but I’m praying so hard he’s not affected because if he his he’ll be dead by tomorrow probably... 😢
Did he make it and did u figure out what got them? A bunch of ours just died
I have a problem where my pregnant doe drops more that 50% of feed. I feed less and still same problem, same feed for 1yr and due tomorrow.
My first time mama had 11 babies a day ago and only two is left now. I feel like we’re gonna loose the whole litter.
Another great video! Thank you!
Thank you.
When my dad was working he found a dead rabbit and he didn't even know that it was Alive or not,it also has blood on his nose
Ma baby rabits were 1 month old and two died what do i do im scared i will lose all of them
My bunny had only 1 baby and she started pulling hair after she had her baby and the baby made it 3-4 days she neglected it and never fed it so we tried kittens milk replacement but it soon got skinny even though we fed it often and kept it warm we’re did we go wrong 🙁 I want to try again any tips?
I am so sorry to hear that. It doesn't sound like you did anything wrong. It is very difficult to hand raise a rabbit and sometimes they just don't make it despite your best efforts. It sounds like your rabbit was a first time mother and it isn't unusual for them to have problems with their first litter. She should do much better on the next litter.
Sad to say the first litter of my rabbit has all died what would you suggest I do with the kits?
my had 2 liters, 1st all 4 died 2nd liter, im lost its been 5 wks old, today lost another one, 7 total now 4 left WHY 😭😭😭😭
Well you could put them inside so they stay warm
Hi, can I breed a buck and a doe that have the same father but different mother?
Thanks you are our rabbit user manual 😉
It really isn't a good idea to breed siblings even if they are just half siblings. You can breed one of those rabbits back to the parent or even the unrelated parent though.
Everybody told me the same thing you did 😀 but no one can tell me what will happen if I do😁.
First litter she had 14 split over two nests. She left one nest to perish but so far the other ones are going ok
14 is a big litter and it is difficult for a mother rabbit to take care of all of them. Glad the rest are doing fine.
Thanks for the info I didn't know if the mother rabbit was squishing the baby's or what I'll try to put the box back in
5 days ago I had a litter of 9.
Can you please tell the colour of carbon rich for quil 💩
All my 7 died. I know I didn't prepare myself and my bun is a first time mother. I should have done more to make sure the babies were warm and all. Also seems like she wasn't feeding them. 😕 😢 I cried.
I am so sorry to hear that. Sometimes first time moms have a hard time. I am sure she will do better on the next ones.
Hey can anyone tell me my newzeland white had a litter but its the wet season,so i moved them inside but my sis in law said moving them is not a good move .. what u all think??
Good information thank you God bless!
Thank you. I am glad you liked it.
I had a litter of 7 and they were fine for about a week and a half until today I lost all 7 today I'm not quite sure why I lost all of them at once
I have a friend who's rabbit ate her 1 week old kits. Large kits. She ate the bodies and left the heads in the nest material. I had no advice to give! Do you have any advice on that?
2 of the babies. Not the whole litter.
Chances are she is gonna eat the other kits as well
I am sorry that you had to deal with that. It sounds like poor mothering instincts to me. Chances are, she feels threatened for some reason. Unfortunately I don't know of a great fix for that. If it is a continuing issue, I would just look at replacing her.
Its like this video was made for us. We have been dealing with this
I am sorry to hear that you are having issues. I hope that they get much better quickly.
@@Slightlyrednecked thank you!!
My doe had a big litter and as expected a few died within the first 2 days. However more died as we went on and I realized even though there nest box had lots of insulation they burrowed to the bottom where it was all above them. I through a grubby T-shirt under the nest box on the cage and then they stopped dying.
I always line my nest boxes with cardboard to keep everything contained. Glad you figured it out and were able to save the rest of them.
Interesting. Sounds like the doe was a little over sensitive.
@@Slightlyrednecked You misunderstood, all four does killed their babies. I supposed the smell of mink on Dads friend caused it.
@@steveruby2120 could be something else though
@@hexicanx Not likely, it was either the mink smell or the blood smell on him after skinning the mink. It never happened again, before or after.
Hey Chris u got any bucks that are weaned yet
Not at the moment.
One of the 7 litters didn’t make it and it hurt me today .
I am so sorry to hear that. Hang in there
Good job Chris 🥰👍
Thank you. I am glad you liked it.
I m still in tears my two died yesterday n I miss them😢😢
How many litters can u have from one doe
A lot. I am afraid I don't know the exact number. It depends on a lot of things really.
my rabbit lost the first litter of 6 and second litter of 4
Hi..
Thank you for sharing
Thank you for watching. I am glad you liked it.
My rabbit had 6 babies and they all died I think she had them to early due to some nit fully developed
Same .
My rabbit is stepping on the babies
I think my rabbit is pregnant but I forgot the date I tried to bred her :/
and there is no signs of her being pregnant I watched all your videos on to tell if your rabbit is pregnant
Use the straw test. Just go out every other day and throw a handful of straw in her cage. When she starts gathering it up and walking around the cage with it, she is ready to build a nest. if you do that for 30 days and still nothing, she isn't pregnant. I hope that helps.
@@Slightlyrednecked Thank you
great information but Idk your rabbits are in small cages, I don't believe that's a good thing.
Thanks
Thank you for watching.
Can I use dryer lint in the nest box if no fur pulled?
It will have smell to the babies so the mother rabbit could kill her babies or the lint can go in to there eyes and couse them to an infected eye
Ouse shredded paper and pine shavings
Shredded newspaper will keep the kits warm the pine shavings keep them dry
technically, yes it can be used. But it probably isn't the best option. It tends to clump together and become almost a solid blanket. you really want something that is looser. Cotton batting (like pillow stuffing) or shredded paper (as mentioned already) are good options.
Good morning.
Hey there.
This happened to me today and it was awful 😰
I was 666 person to like so I unliked and waiting on someone else to like before I re like it 🤣
