Thank you to everyone who came, watched, and enjoyed this 1st major video of mine….. I want to apologize to any Ocarina fans who are disappointed with my lack of analysis of the game’s story or plot, I realized after posting this that I kinda skimmed over a lot of the story and mainly focused on the player experience…..I’ll be doing a much more thorough analysis of Mario 64 in a few days, I’m 95 stars in to a 120-star attempt and I’ve hit a wall of skill but I know I’ll have something fun to share about the game. Thank you to everyone who left a sweet comment, love all you guys and thanks for helping my video take off like yall did 💜really thank you Redditors and everyone else. Okla
Finally got the chance to finish this video up. I think you nailed exactly what it was you were going for. A personal story about being a 90s kid. I remember picking up games from Blockbuster on the weekend every no and again and man, bold of you to do that with OoT. I would have had to find a way to try and keep tabs on the cart I rented because it would have been the only way for me to get far into that game, before I got my own copy at some point. I think we both had a somewhat similar experience with certain consoles belonging to certain family members, or at least only playing them at their place of residence. That was me and one of my aunts. They had an N64 and OoT so, when we would visit every now and again, I knew I had a chance to get through the game bit by bit. The 3Ds footage was a solid choice. I know playing games via emulation on PC can be tricky, especially 3Ds games. They have complexities, but that was a smart choice. It looks good and, while the colors might be a bit more saturated, it shows up really well on screens. I played the hell out of the 3Ds version when it came out. It seemed to solve some of the issues that popped up with the original. Like you mentioned the water temple and other quality of life features. I do not miss opening up the menu every 5 seconds to take off the boots. So glad they made those "equipment." There are few games out there that have this kind of mass appeal, or at least it feels that way. Most everyone was aware of OoT in the late 90s and you brought up FF7 more than a few times. It is strange how the events that took place around then gave us what we have now in terms of how games are made, seen, and played. Would FF7 have come out on the N64 if the Sony deal didn't break apart? Would that mean that the N64 became the greatest console of its time? Who can say, but we got to experience that fallout first hand and see exactly where everything would lead to. Maybe its just nostalgia talking, but i think a certain level of love for the craft is missing in current games. Some certainly still do whine through, you can tell when something was a passion project, but I don't know games as a whole just don't really feel like how OoT did or any game from back in the day for that matter. At any rate, awesome video my man. Looking forward to what the next one will be. Keep it clean, yea?
Amazing vid, I can't believe I'm one of your first 300 subs. Great retrospective, up there with Running Shine's OOT retro for me. I really enjoyed the way your sections flowed together and included so many other nods to systems/games. It felt very conversational. Time to binge your earlier vids 😂 Cheers ~
The way you were expressing your enjoyment between Mario 64, Diddy Kong Racing and OOT, I swear it reminds me of my childhood back in Germany back in the 90s. Made me feel heavy nostalgic. You deserve a sub, keep up the good work
thank you. I wanted to capture that feeling that you obviously know... I tried my best to just come from the heart and paint a picture and I'm glad it came through like that. makes me really happy that it translated ! Nostalgia can be really hard to express in words cuz it's often a combination of emotions, im just glad you enjoyed it.
12:00 in and I can already tell this one is legit. Your childhood video game experiences were the exact same as mine: all about Mario and Mario 3 on NES, went over to Sonic and the Dark Side and was envious of the SNES during the early to mid 90’s, then Swan Dived right into the N64 was a young teenager. Even the DK Racing phase:: wow. I’ll sit back and watch the rest now
Thank you! I’ve been wanting to do my own take on an OoT retrospective for a long time, and when I finally put the project together I realized that the music was going to drive the entire story. thanks for watching 💜and I’ll have another one for you very soon
i know this game always takes you back to that really special period of time, nostalgia is such a powerful thing it's hard to describe but that's kinda what I was aiming for here was to depict how this game made us feel
Watching this video made me think about how much Zelda has been an important part of my life. When my brother graduated I was the last kid in the house and we moved to a new state. OOT was a place I knew and familiar faces that were a comfort. When I graduated and moved out WW was there as I set out on my own adventure. When my marriage was failing BOTW was there for a peaceful and comforting place while my whole world was falling apart. Thanks Nintendo for being an important part of my life. And thanks for the great video!
@emacsterm2949 we don't care about you life story neither do nintendo, as all entertainment is about money, I could say the same about many games or other things that helped me through but thank them, that just silly made million upon millions they dont need our gratitude, lol.
Thank you 🙏 I worked my butt off on this but have no audience yet, I figured if I just started coming out with good videos people would watch. Thanks for being my very first viewer 🎉😅
I noticed around the ending portion of the video around ganon fight cutscene that gameplay and audio werent sinked up but other then that this was a great watch
Thank you so much! I was pretty excited/nervous to put a big project out there for the 1st time and it's been awesome to see most people really digging it, you're 100% on the mark, next video will have much better audio! I wanted this to be as flawless as I could get it and of course I still missed a BUNCH of errors or just had the audio poorly mixed or too loud and drowning out my voice etc... For the next video im doing Mario 64 and I wanna be sure to write a worthy essay that properly breaks down the game itself and does it justice.... Most of all I wanna provide you with high-quality retrospective game content to just enjoy..... I know how much it's meant to me over the years to have guys like Liam Triforce and KingK and many more and their incredible library of vids that are TH-cam canon of their own. If i can provide a similar service to guys like that i'll be happy. Thank you again for watching and commenting my dude, stay tuned for the next one.
You’re right! I’ll never get tired of hearing strangers talk about OOT. Until they start just retelling the events of the game with minimal creative or intellectual input
😢ouch I get what you’re saying I realized after publishing this that I didn’t offer a lot of critique or analysis of the actual plot … i suppose this video was more focused on what it was like to be an n64-owner back before ocarina came out….i feel like maybe I messed up and should have focused way more on the game itself cuz I know other OoT fans will have the same reaction I’m still finding my footing here and I might have been a LITTLE eager to publish this. I realized after the project was nearly complete that I needed to go more in-depth with the storyline/plot but getting a video of this scope done was a first for me, so at some point I had to say f-it and publish the script I’d already written….. Hopefully this will offer some entertainment and enjoyment to n64 / OoT fans. I’m a huge KingK fan and he was my original inspiration to do this, my videos could never compare to his…..but I will absolutely do a better job offering creative critiques in my next retrospective….which I’m working on right now…
@@Okla_Soft its alright I mean for me what mad this worse than it looked was just the arrogance in the title still I'll check out your next retrospective and see how much you improve

You're very welcome Daniela! I adore MM as well for sorta different reasons than ocarina, and it was equally important to me as one of the last games I actually played/beat on my N64 growing up and it has special memories for me as well, Snowhead in particular and the Gold dust/razor sword/gilded sword upgrade sequence in that game is one of my favorite memories of any video game probably for of the feeling of finding something special in the snow in the miodst of all that lonliness and isolation and death all around you. There's something about seeing snowhead thaw ouit and turn to spring...It's something i'll have to try and describe in a video dedicated to MM. Majora deserves it's own retrospective of course, and I've got a playthrough going on Majora 3D but I'm at the pirate's fortress part where you have to sneak in and I haven't gotten back to it yet. Can't wait to finish marjora and get a video on it made sometime next year..... thank you for the kindhearted comment
I show Ship of Harkinian is that the port you mean? I’m not aware of a 3ds port of this version but if there is I gotta check it out!!! I definitely debated which version to run for a retrospective but ultimately I thought the graphics/art style of this version were worth playing on an emulator. 😅
Great video. Very detailed. Question, to a general trend here: Can somebody explain to me, why videos like this, that could have been an audio podcast (and essentially still are), have to be 4k? Kinda redundant & wasteful (server space, bandwidth, energy etc...) I'm watching it (as most videos, except where text, like tiny text code tutorials, is important) on 144, still gets the message across as the visuals aren't THAT important here... they don't add much vital value... Especially at fast paced cuts like eg. here... Am I so different to the average stream junkie & number induced hard-on addicts? What's the point I'm missing?
i totally agree with you about 4K, it's my fucked-up sense of humor to title the thumbnail and video like that, because this is honestly neither the "ultimate" ocarina retrospective nor is the game anywhere close to 4K, so yeah i thought it would be kinda cute and douchey to title it like that. I have an extremely dry sense of humor, plus i was kinda being a little clickbaitey with the thumbnail, i admit. to your point, it IS stupid and redundant to put 4K after a title, that's kinda why I did it!
@@Okla_Soft my comment wasn't about your naming. It was about the general trend of actual video resolutions being to where it makes no sense for them to be... But ok, maybe I explained it wrong and didn't make my point clear enough. Thx anyway for the reply, even if that too misses the point.
the way link's walking or running animation also looks like it's in slo-mo on the 3ds version compared to the OG game, but im so used to the 3ds version nowadays it's the original boots that jar me!
At this point it's just nice to zone out and listen to people's anecdotes about this game. Whatever they can say about the game on a technical level has already been said a gorillion times before
