I believe the explanation for how Link doesn't get lost in the Lost woods permanently is Navi. He has a fairy from the forest helping him, so if he takes a wrong turn, he simply ends up where he started instead of eternally lost. Then, the theory follows, when he goes searching for Navi after the events of OoT, he DOES end up lost in the Lost woods, which causes him to become the Stalfos as seen in Twilight Princess.
@@ummygummy5346 The dead thing can’t be true because Link from Twilight Princess is a direct blood descendant of the Hero of Time, meaning that Link cannot have died as a child during or before Majorca’s Mask. Furthermore, the Hero’s Shade doesn’t match the appearances of the other Stalfos in the game, not to mention that only adults who die in the Lost Woods become Stalfos. Children become Skull Kids.
But his "Stalfos" form, as seen in TP, is clearly that of a fully grown adult. If what you say here were actually the case, then wouldn't Link appear as a Stalchild? OoT/MM Link died as a fully mature adult, and only *appears* to his distant descendent in the form of a wolf or skeleton.
"No strategy guides, no internet to show me where to go next, just my friends at school lying to me about unlocking sheik as a playable character" I was laughing for a good minute. I remember those times.
I was like 9 and was lucky enough to have older sisters for the hard stuff. Especially the Water Temple. I played that game like 10 times before I was able to do the hard stuff myself.
Fun fact, here's what the manga authors have to say about the majoras mask side story "The series launched at almost the same time as the game release, so that meant at the start we couldn't reference the actual game play, we had seen the opening demo and the intro images, but that wasn't enough to fill up all the pages. After pondering the problem for a while, we decided to write an original story... something symbolic, like a myth, which would fit in well but didn't need to match the game's specific details. So we took the overall impressions we got from majoras mask and put them into story form in a grand way. The story is entirely separate from the main one, but we hope you enjoy it just as much!" - Akira Himekawa 2001
I've heard 2 theories on the fierce deity: 1) it's been long assumed that termina is a parallel universe of Hyrule. It having an exact counterpart of each person. With that being said, the theory goes that the fierce deity is the Link of termina who died before the events of Majora's mask. 2) (my favorite one) The fierce deity is actually the 4th god or goddess of the triforce who symbolizes justice, punishment, wrath, or order and is the upsidedown triangle in the center of the triforce. This being is incredibly powerful (ie. Has there own special divine sword). Being the center upsidedown triangle symbolizes that there actions is solely dependent on the will of the 3 goddesses who call upon them when desperate action is required.
Yeah I prefer the second theory too. I always assumed that Links termina counterpart was Tingle. I know that sounds like a joke but there's really no one else it could be. He's not a Kokiri so he ages just like Link, plus the fact that he doesn't have a fairy.
The ones who made Majora's Mask had their own Link/Hero of Time, who is actually portrayed within the manga. If I remember properly, Majora is portrayed as a dragon that wants to rest, and Link had to put him to rest. One of the scales was the thing that was fashioned into Majora's Mask. Well, the Fierce Deity mask is the yin to Majora's yang. The creators of both masks (who, basically, sealed away both the villain *and* the Hero of Time) were the ones sealed away in time and dimension in order to suffer penance for abusing the Tetraforce to do so. This led to two options: The Ancient Realm in BOTW, or the Twili from TP. The Tetraforce likely would have led to the resurgence of Ganon, Zant's madness from a potential Majora's Bind/Curse, and Ganon's strengthening after the death of Zant occurs. Sealing him away would have led to a seal on the Triforce of Power, whiiiich the Tetraforce could have broken and gone to the extent of allowing it to corrupt the Triforce of Wisdom (Possessed Zelda from TP).
I really prefer to believe that the tree his mother turned into was the tree his house was on in the beginning of the game, like she continued to watch over him and give him a home even in this forest where he didn't belong.
Interesting note. After Link returned to his childhood he warned Zelda what Ganondorf was planning and what was going to happen. Ganondorf would be caught and charged by the Royal Family to be executed which we see the attempt in Twilight Princess. The Gerudo hearing that their king is about to be executed started a war in which they lost. Sending them to exile. In Four Swords Adventures which is after Twilight Princess and Ganondorf's death the Gerudo are back however as the curse continues a new male gerudo was born and he became Ganon by stealing the trident.
In the Majora's mask manga the dragon that's armor became Majora's Mask itself killed and ate humans that came to kill it and were trying to gain a wish. Sorry if I'm coming off as annoying.
That’s what I wonder about. How does Ganon get charged if the king didnt believe in Zelda’s visions? Is this also when the events in Majora’s Mask begin; after Link returns and warns Zelda?
@@letshuman8985 After returning to his time Link warns Zelda of what Ganondorf has planned and has Ganondorf arrested. That's what leads to his attempted execution in Twilight Princess
it’s funny that people really thought there were secret dungeons like the developers went to the trouble of designing a WHOLE dungeon just for most people to never even find it
@@alternateperez4086 I mean if I took the hard work and time to develop a whole dungeon for Ocarina of Time and they made it to where the only way anyone would see would be to do this wildly obtuse set of steps to get to it, I'd be pissed.
Just a very slight correction for around the 25:30 mark, the Kakariko/Romani Ranch sign isn't in Japanese, it's in Hylian. A Japanese player who could read or just wanted to decode the signs into Japanese would see the mistake, but most Japanese players either wouldn't have noticed or just assumed it was a reused texture if they did notice. For comparison, Kakariko Village in Japanese is written as カカリコ村 . Edit: I'm so glad that guard who dies in the marketplace is on here because that cutscene deeply affected me as a kid
Thanks for leaving this comment, I was scrolling down looking to see if someone explained what the fuck he was talking about because the sign in the video is very clearly (for someone with Japanese literacy) not in Japanese, so I was extremely confused.
Ohhh okay i thought i was maybe going insane, like “i’m not an expert at japanese….but i’m fairly certain that there sign is just some random bullshit…”
@@Isseinoyuu A year late, but all the hylian in OoT uses the fictional hylian script, but all the characters have an equivalent hiragana (iirc) and hence all the text is actually Japanese
Totally agree with you about the lack of information making games more magical. I've got an 8-year-old cousin that I like to share these old games with. She particularly likes Pokemon and Zelda, but whenever she's curious about something she just...looks it up online. Like she said that she used a walkthrough for most of OOT, which made me die a little inside. Figuring out how to beat OOT with my neighbor and brothers was a highlight of my childhood, and I think she inadvertently cheated herself out of something special. I didn't say anything because she's 8 and I didn't want to upset her, but it did give me a little perspective on what we've lost in this age of information. Occasionally she'll tell me things like "My friend said you can get a shiny if you do this" or "I heard there's a way to get the Master Sword early," things like that. The playground rumor is still alive, but it's not near what it was when I was a kid
I can get that, but I also think we've gained something from it too. As a kid I gave up on quite a few games because I couldn't figure out what I needed to do. I didn't have the patience to puzzle it out and none of my friends played the games I did. I was pretty effectively isolated in that regard. I'm not a horribly patient person but thanks to the internet I don't get nearly as lost or frustrated as I used to get. I can actually play through and enjoy the entire game fully without wanting to tear my hair out.
i don't think it's objectively a bad thing. some people just aren't good with puzzles. i used to give up playing games entirely and just fuck around in the overworld because i had no idea what to do and walkthroughs weren't really a thing back then. i eventually got better once i was like 11-12 and figured things out on my own but some of those games i never picked back up. i might've really enjoyed them if i could have actually played them.
The forest temple was originally meant to be the wind temple, which is why the forest room in ganon's castle has wind puzzles, amd the forest medallion looks like a gale
Relating to this, the Water Temple was originally supposed to be the Ice Temple, hence the medallion and room in Ganon’s castle being more ice-themed. The 1997 leak supports this with text referencing Wind and Ice Medallions.
This would have been very interesting. The Forest Temple is my favorite in OOT (top 5 temples of all time), largely due to the music, atmosphere, and WOW factor coming off of the 3 medallions. Like welcome to OOT B*tch. Took me so long as a kid to beat...Kept dying to phantom ganon like a pleb
@@ThreeMusketeersGaming69 I don’t like the forest temple, but I can't deny it has some incredibly unnerving atmosphere and is a huge step up from the previous three dungeons.
My take on the "Hero falls timeline" is that the the Triforce gave each of the holders a future where they are most important. The adult timeline games seem to have a slight focus more on Zelda, the child timeline games are more Link centered, and the "Fallen" timeline are mostly where Ganon is in power.
It's an interesting take and I'd be on board with it, as if the Goddesses weren't actually aspects of good but only seek to maintain a perpetual balance of the eternal fight between good and evil and the Triforce was their way of ensuring it. I think a lot of folks are just going with "multiverse" in a more generic sense, probably based on Zelda in Breath of the Wild being aware of events that happened in different timelines and it's possible they all converged back into a single timeline at some point between the known ends of each split and known history of BotW's point of view.
Except that the Downfall Timeline is a what-if scenario based upon Link dying against Ganon. The 2 other timelines both occur at the same time, but parallel universes due to Link being sent back by Zelda to basically the beginning of OoT, where he warns Zelda and the King of Hyrule. This leads to TP, while simultaneously the Adult timeline continues even after Link is sent back to the past.
@@IamSupreme333 I know, I'm just slightly bitter about my favorite Zelda games being what-if scenarios, it felt like such an afterthought when they drew up that timeline. I've read so many other fan theories for the timelines over the years that were more thoughtful and clever that Nintendo's official explanation left me disappointed.
I’ve always thought of OOT as a watershed moment in Hyrules history. Since there were time traveling shenanigans it split. That’s why there is a downfall timeline in oot and not in every game. At least that’s what I tell myself. But in the end they really never had a plan.
I think Goose Boose said it best regarding Nintendo's stance on Redeads: if the game is darker in tone (Majora's Mask and Twilight Princess) the Redeads are reanimated corpses, while the more light-hearted entries explain that the Redeads are manifestations of Ganon's dark magic. It was even stated that the townspeople fled when Ganon stormed the castle town with his minions in Ocarina of Time.
Hello! I am actually a user who slightly assisted LeroySinclair in building this iceberg. I helped with several entries. I can assure you that none of these entries are “joke entries,” although some are a bit outlandish. My main criticism of this final draft of this iceberg is that some entries are either too high or too low for my personal tastes. That, and sometimes it builds too much off the Mario 64 Iceberg. But I guess if any iceberg is going to do that, Zelda 64 would have the most reason to. Regardless, I am fairly pleased with the final product and am thankful that you took the time to cover this. I’m glad I subscribed. I’ve been living and breathing icebergs lately. Anyways, if you want to ask me any questions, I can comment on pretty much every entry on the iceberg.
I consulted him on a few points, but the main one I couldn't find anything on, as I said in the video, was the "unintended lens of truth locations". Do you know what that's all about?
@@NEScRETRO Ah. I figured you might ask about that. Unfortunately, there isn’t much to it. Basically, it invokes the theory of “what if there was content that you missed?” It refers to the feeling you might have had when first playing the game. Should I use the lens here? What if there is an invisible monster or npc? What is lurking just out of sight? Are there secrets hidden in strange areas? Maybe there is a hidden dungeon here? I personally remember being younger and being afraid that an invisible monster or trap could be lying in wait anywhere. I constantly used the lens everywhere. The lens of truth opened you up to a completely new dimension that was hardly utilized, but could still somehow bring about a sense of paranoia. Who was to say how much of the game was actually invisible? It was unnerving to think of the possibility that you could return to Kokiri Forest and use the lens to uncover a secret that had been waiting for you from the very start of the game... Who knows? Maybe there is still invisible content? Will you be the first to find it? Are the devs hiding a terrible secret somewhere? (Joking) 😝 That’s essentially it. “Unintended locations” just refers to all of the nonspecific places that theoretically could’ve had something invisible hidden in them. I’ve heard that many people thought to use it in the desert to interact with the pyramid or make more pyramids appear. Sorry there isn’t much to it. 😅 it’s more of a feeling/experience than a specific location or secret. But again, thanks for taking the time to delve into this. It means a lot.
@@romantisanon4647 @Romantis Anon oh okay, thats sort of what I concluded and tried doing, going back to the Deku tree or even the area before the clock tower in Majora's Mask, to try using the lens of truth, but to no luck, but I get you! But thats really interesting, I now wish I explained it more as a fear/phobia, as those sorts of things always lend themselves nicely to icebergs, but oh well. Also, I totally get what you mean about the placement of certain things. Ben drowned should be higher consider its the most famous video game creepypasta next to lavender Town Syndrome. Also, some of the glitch ones, but then again, if they were all grouped together, it would be a bit of a drag to talk about them all in a row, so i guess I actually prefer them spread throughout lol. Thanks for assisting with this iceberg though! I'm glad it covered both games, as I feel that made it more "complete", at least in regards to the era of zelda I'm most familiar with!
@@NEScRETRO No worries! You did excellent! I love these long format videos! You legit made my day with this! The N64 games are the ones I’m most familiar with, so I’m excited that I was able to help partake in the meme. But yeah. Placement was definitely weird. I just helped discuss and research certain entries for the iceberg. I had little, if any, say in the placement. Oh well. Ah! Before I forget. There is one thing I would like to add on to: “Evil is rewarded with Heaven;” Koume and Kotake are killed. Their ghosts appear. But they are depicted as having halos and ascend into the heavens at the end of their cutscene. This is weird enough as it is, but the implications for religion, free will, morality, and the afterlife within Hyrule are heavy. Does evil truly exist? Is that why Ganon is never truly killed/erased but only pacified/sealed away? Are the Goddesses and Demise just playing a game with everyone? Is this why Majora is so playful; “Lets play good guys against bad guys”? Is everyone simply a piece being used by them only to be called up to Heaven upon their deaths as a reward for "being good players/toys" in their game? Are the villains and heroes subconsciously driven to fulfilling their roles for the Goddesses’ amusement? The Twinrova defeat cutscene was honestly just a joke, but if looked at from an in-universe perspective, it raises a lot of weird questions about existentialism within Hyrule. It’s definitely a crackpot theory, but I guess that’s why it’s in the bottom layer hahaha
@@romantisanon4647 thats a really good view on the "evil deeds" thing. I didnt quite take that angle on it, but now I wish I had! Oh I did have another question. On "Malon is an alcoholic" did you guys mean Cremia? Or is it because she's excited to drink the chataeu romani?
Yeah, no, that "Welcome to Kakariko Village" sign is not in Japanese, it's in the fully translatable Hylian language (yes, it exist) that translates _to Japanese_
Also its reuse in Majora's Mask is just a case of "we need a sign and we already have an asset that works", keeping in mind they made this game in a year and reused Ocarina of Time assets to save time.
I should have been more clear on that point, as I meant to mention FROM hylian it translates to Japanese, welcome to kakariko village lol. Another flub on my part. I'll do my best to improve in the future!
It's not really a fully realized language, it's just a very basic cipher for Japanese. It would be more accurate to call it "the decodable Hylian alphabet".
A little personalization story I had with my brother is that when we first played oot when we were kids we named link zelda because that's what we thought his name is because of the title of the game. Anyway when we first met zelda and she asked us for links name, link of course responded with Zelda. Zelda responded with "Really? That's my name too!" I remember it so vividly but I've never seen anyone else have this little message and only my brother and I remember it. I kept trying over and over again but everytime I tried it zelda would respond with the usual "hmmm, sounds familiar" line. Just thought I'd share and if anyone else remembers something like this please respond

@@daydreams6956 right - especially when the memory is from childhood, it's more likely our young minds simply misunderstood something at the time. Our older minds then retroactively attempt to explain the mistaken conclusion, which still might not be rational. As for shared false memories, these are also possible AFAIK. Besides, all it takes is for one kid to come to such a conclusion and point it out to another kid, who can then easily adopt the same idea (if they don't just call BS on it) and thus end up with an identical/similar false memory that's reinforced whenever it's brought up again. Take a personal example of a false memory. When I was very small, I believed I had 'another family' and could describe who was in it. When I later told my mum, she explained that I was describing her sister's family, which I met when I was even younger. The inexplicable idea of some 'other family' was just a child's understanding of one of my hazy very first memories.
Ocarina of Time is the one game I go back and play and the music will literally bring tears to my eyes many times through out the play through. I used to think there was some way to skip the entire forest temple. Maybe on my first playthrough of OOT, I got my friend to do the temple for me because I was stuck, but I remember using Din's fire to light the torches and activating the elevator. Then, obviously, the elevator went up instead of down and took me to the sky temple, because Nintendo would clearly design a dungeon just to hide it behind some random condition like lighting an elevator on fire. Then, after getting the tetraforce from the sky temple, I unlocked the fierce diety mask and Ganon's horse. After going back down the elevator, I was suddenly in womp's fortress in Super Mario 64. After getting the 100 coin star, I cartridge swapped to Majora's Mask, which unlocked Majora's mask, which would unlock sonic in the original super smash bros for exactly 13 hours when worn.
The Royal Family Curse is talking about how every Zelda game, there’s a king and queen. Queen always dies, daughter is always named Zelda and must hold the triforce. Always a boy in green who also holds the triforce. And Hyrule is always destroyed. And there’s always an loop. And at the end of skyward sword the main bad guys curses the Royal family. Sorry not so good on my Zelda knowledge, but I know that.
I don't think there's a royal family curse. It's never been a Zelda thing that the queen always dies due to a curse. She just happens to be dead and therefore non-present in every Zelda game. Also, not every Princess Zelda holds the Triforce or faces the return of Ganon and therefore Hyrule doesn't get destroyed every generation.

Having read the manga for Majora’s mask as a kid (and every other manga from Akira Himekawa in the series) I can give a bit more on the dragon. He did actually kill a LOT of people, but only because they came to try and kill him for his armor, which in turn was carved into the mask. The armor, who h was actually filled with evil power, was rumored to grant wishes, but Majora the dragon killed anyone and everyone who came to try and take it. Majora assumed the fierce deity was coming to try and kill him as well for the armor, but instead caused him to dance for three days in turn killing Majora and then turned it into a mask, hoping to seal the evil power of the armor, which unfortunately didn’t work.
I think that the "Majora is a Hero" point is moreso referring to the fact that the Majora Child on the moon says "Let's play good guys against bad guys" and then hands Link the Fierce Deity's mask, and says that Link is the bad guy. This is compounded by the Fierce Deity's mask's description which reads "Could this mask's dark powers be as bad as Majora?".

"They're all just individual stories unless stated otherwise" My brother in Hylia, that is all of them. Even before Hyrule Historia there was very clear connective tissue across a number of the games. As you stated, OoT and MM are directly linked to each other. So are Zelda 1 and 2. As for A Link to the Past, well its in the name. Wind Waker's intro shows what happened after Zelda sent Adult Link back and caused him to dissappear from thar timeline. After defeating Puppet Ganon, the real Ganondorf remarks "You are indeed the Hero of Time reborn." Twilight Princess has the Hero’s spirit who, even without the direct confirmation from HH, is still strongly implied to be the same Link from OoT and MM, given he knows the Song of Healing and was a previous weilder of the Master Sword. BotW has a cutscene where Zelda, when giving Link the Master Sword, directly mentions every past weilder in the timeline. Skyward Sword was always established as the furthest back in the timeline before HH's release, and the ending of that game sets up future events. We can split hairs and nitpick about the finer details and the placement of other games all day, but there is definitely evidence of a timeline behind the scenes or at least a basic framework there. There's a downfall timeline because one, it's the game that splits the timeline in the first place and the other Links aren't creating other timelines, and two, because the Hero’s defeat leads directly into an event known as the Imprisoning War which sets up the events of the classic games. The placement of the games taking place after Link dying somehow making them less canon or less significant is definitely a weird take. I really don't think Nintendo views it this way, especially with Link Between Worlds being such a massive love letter to this specific era of Zelda games. I've always found the myth that Nintendo released an official timeline specifically to get fans to stop arguing as very silly, especially with how notorious the company is for not caring about fan debates or requests.
BotW Zelda wasn't giving Link the master sword if I'm thinking of the right cutscene. Link was able to pull it at a very young age. She was knighting him as a champion.
I personally liked when there were no timelines and fans could just debate it on their own. but the link dying timeline does make sense to me with the retro games bc it adds credence as to why there would be games with more monsters and ruin. as well as explaining ganon retaining the triforce and never reverting back to his gerudo form in those games.
Well before it was classified link dies timeline, fans used to call it, hero doesn't return timeline, as when link became a kid again to go to the spirit temple, he just decided not to return and stay as a kid, leading to no one stopping future ganon
I think it's poorly named, rather than Hero Falls it should have been something like "Hero disappears". Similar to like a multiverse, there's a timeline where Link disappears after taking the sword from the Temple of Time. This then creates another timeline where Link succeeds as an adult and life continues on without him when he then returns the sword back to the Temple of Time but rather than Link returning he instead creates another timeline where he retains the knowledge he had and prevents Ganondorf from taking power.
@@Jbrickzz_Official Do I understand this correctly? The theory was that basically Twilight Princess timeline Ganon thrived at the absence of Link? This makes so much more sense. The problem with the downfall timeline has always been the fact that this is a timeline with Twinrova alive, and the description of the Imprisoning War not matching the events of OOT when Ganon kills Link. How are there even knights alive to give up their lives for the Sages. Not to mention how bad it is have a timeline when OOT Link loses. The timeline can be more easily explained if Link never intervened in Ocarina of Time (and with good reason). And while at it, let's talk about how Four Swords can be their own timeline with no Triforce or at the very least no Master Sword. To me the theory that there is a timeline where Zelda never returns Link to his childhood after beating Ganon fixes this theory. It would also split the timeline in 4. The Twilight Princess and Wind Waker timeline and the timeline of no Wind Waker (Adult Link stayed and thus there was a hero so no need to flood Hyrule). And a timeline where Twilight Princess doesn't happen but A Link to the Past does since Link didn't snitch on Ganon. I am more of a fan of this theory.
"Hero is defeated" is such a poor name for it, it makes more sense if you consider it any form of link isn't there, if he dies, or whatever let's Ganon be victorious I don't remember where I heard it, but I like the idea of the Hero defeated timeline is the abandoned timeline, at the end of OoT link goes back to around the time of his first meeting with Zelda, blah blah, leads to majoras and tp. But what about that timeline you play through in the child parts of OoT post master sword pull? Any timeline where Ganon goes drunk on triforce power and can't unpig himself is the original games timeline.
Oh it was insane though lol do you remember those cheat codes from back in the day? Once you're the plane you can fly to freezeezy peak.... And on and on and on
Oh you don't EVEN know. Back then even a rumor that kinda looked legit flew as legit. Doctor an image and suddenly all of your friends and you fully believed it. Those were the wild west days of the internet. Now when someone posts something incorrect on TH-cam they're obliterated in the comments section
I'm impressed at how creative some of those rumors for unlocking secret characters/events/whatever in games that weren't actually possible were, I still remember actually grinding for HOURS in FF7 to get the "resurrect" spell on the revive materia because I was so curious about seeing if Aerith could be revived.
It’s very strange, I have the exact same memory of being able to grab the fire arrows at Lake Hylia for the first time with the longshot. The memory is so strong in me that I still attempted to do this while I was playing through Ocarina on Switch a few days ago. My long term memory is generally really good, and I usually remember most aspects of my favourite games, even after 20 plus years. It’s so strange we have the same memory, or dream?

@@midnight11111 I have similar beliefs! That or as we evolve I think we're maybe becoming more aware of various parallel versions of ourselves who had experienced things differently.
It is possible, via the scarecrow's song. Play near the base of the "island" and it'll appear. But you need Longshot to reach the scarecrow there, which means you can only grab them just minutes before beating the water temple and having the lake filled anyway.
@@snf327 Heck, if I'm remembering right, in the Master Quest version of the game there was a room in the Water Temple with 3 torch sconces on a far wall in a triangular formation that required Fire Arrows to get through because they were out of range of Din's Fire. Think it may have just led to a Gold Skulltula though? Idk it's been years. Anyways, basically encouraged you to get the arrows before clearing the temple, especially since you get the Longshot much earlier in Master Quest Water Temple.
39:46 I believe the Wind Temple could be referring to another theory. People have theorized that the Forest Temple was originally a Wind themed temple in beta versions. This is backed up by the fact that the Forest Temple's room in Ganon's Castle contains a wind-based puzzle. Meanwhile all the other rooms more closely align with each respective dungeon.
"Sold his soul to the devil." 'Devil' can also be used as 'demon' or 'evil entity/creature.' So far in the case of Majora's Mask? I always just assumed the 'devil' to be Majora itself. It's cursed pretty much everyone else so why not. Lol Majora is very equal opportunity when it comes to making others suffer.
I would love to see them have a game made that allowed to you go through the timeline, properly, and let you choose which timeline you want, basically, a let you choose the ending type of game.
I’m slightly ashamed that I had to use a walkthrough to finish 100% with every mask and side task completed. I genuinely wouldn’t have known about some of the more obscure side quests on my own. I mean….I guess using a walkthrough doesn’t necessarily make playing the actual game easy to play and complete. Sure, I needed the written guide to help me navigate locations but I still had to play and put those hints to use. I think at this point in my comment I’m actually only trying to convince myself 💀
Don't feel bad some of the side quests were absurd for young people to figure out on their own. I did the same thing as a teenager, how the heck were we supposed to know theres an invisible guard by a circle of stones near the entrance to the Canyon? or that there's a spirit of a dancing man on the stone mushrooms in termina field that only appears from midnight to morning??

I got the weirdest deja vu during the intro. Like I’ve seen this exact video before a long time ago even though it’s only been uploaded a day ago. It was really strong deja vu too, the kind where you feel like you know it’s happened before.
I feel like I've seen other in depth discussions (over an hour long) about Nintendo game's icebergs on TH-cam from different channels so maybe you watch some of those
It wasn't until this video that I realized the walls and floors of the "Under the Well" area in OoT were actually skulls. I always just thought it was dirt. But now getting a better look at it, the pixels form the shape of skulls. I'm mindblown right now!
I was 8 years old when I got LOZ back in 1987. It was a Friday and my parents took me to Toys R US and I scored LOZ, I played until I couldn't keep my eyes open and all weekend long. Two things I would like to know: How did the Temple of Time become such a massive dungeon in Twilight Princess? And why do the Stalchilds in Hyrule field in OoT disappear when Link gets older? Logically there should be more of them because of Ganondorf´s takeover.
You *CAN* Longshot to the platform in Lake Hylia where the Fire Arrows drop prior to filling the Lake back up with water. You need the Scarecrow's Song to do it, though.
idk if this was ever confirmed by nintendo or if it's just widely accepted headcanon but Telma in Twilight princess is said to be half-gerudo, and the last decendant of the gerudos
I think the grieving cycle doesn’t mean link dies personally, I see it more as grieving the loss of Navi, he probably died after otherwise he probably would’ve been a stallchild right?
AMAZING video, I watched/listened it indeed while doing my chores and it was really good thanks for all the time and effort u put in keep doing what u do
Redead are hylians: What makes this more interesting is the well supported theory that redeads are created by the skeikah or the royal family, and not Ganon. There's a good Zeltik video on it if you wanna check it out. It would mean that the redeads in the marketplace were actually a desperate last-ditch effort by the royal family to resist Ganondorf; one that ended in vain.
I always loved the naiveness of people telling the Triforce symbol on the Quest Subscreen were slots, when the shadow obviously tells us it's not carved inside but outside, differently from the other ones.
Just in case no one mentioned this: Arwings can be spawned anywhere in the game, as they are an asset like any other. The only thing that sets them apart from say Epona, is that they are unused.
Hey bud, I can feel the appreciation you’ve got for these franchises and their games, every video you make takes me to when I myself was first exploring these worlds, I appreciate you and your efforts, it goes a long way my friend
Started to play videogames at 6, I'm not 38 and Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask are still in my top videogame ever. That feeling the first time i explored those games was amazing. Recently only one games gave me that same feeling Elden Ring. True masterpiece
You actually CAN get to the Fire Arrow ledge with the Longshot. You first need to get the scarecrow song and play it to make him appear. Then you can stand near the edge of the platform, close to where you would begin to fall due the slope being to steep. You have to stand pretty close to the edge, but it's certainly possible.
One thing overlooked on the triforce menu thing, the lighting source (assuming the medallions and heart pieces are hollowed/recessed) is at the top left, leaving shadows in that same corner (again assuming a recess for the medallions and heart container) this means that there is not a hollowed out spot for the triforce, but instead a raised area as the shadows are on the bottom right section, meaning the raised portion blocks the light. I don't think I've heard anyone put this point forward, but its worth noting.
When you said "all the kids I meet while playing Ocarina of Time (...) I no longer really talk to them or know what happened to them, and while that may sound depressing, it's just life (...) it's just the way it goes" you just proved how much influence Ocarina have on you. Remember: time passes, people move... Like a river's flow, it never ends.
45:32 the reason for the dance troupe hint was because if you wore certain masks (can't remember which ones) in Ikana Castle the ReDeads would just dance around rather than attack you. It was a hint to make that mini dungeon easier rather than just adding to lore.
I just looked up "chateau" and it refers to "a large French country house or castle, often giving its name to wine made in its neighborhood." Example: "Château Margaux". So I think Chateau Romani must be an alcoholic drink made from or mixed with milk. I always knew it was a name for a type of estate so the item always confused me but the association with vineyards is new info to me and now a lot of things make a whole lot more sense. A while back I read that in an earlier stage of development, the swordplay was much more complex allowing you to do different types of slashes and manually jump. It was probably inspired by Zelda 2. But it was probably too complex so they dumbed it down to a simple three slash combo. Looks like that beta footage shows the older sword combat they worked on. It would have been pretty cool but way ahead of its time. There definitely was a loose continuity between the games from the beginning. The entire Zelda 1 map is the southern tip of the Zelda 2 map. LttP was always said to be a distant prequel to Zelda 1. And Ocarina of Time was originally conceived as depicting the Imprisoning War mentioned in LttP. After that the continuity building was much more intentional in the main console games which I think not coincidentally coincides with Eiji Aonuma's recruitment to the Zelda dev team. After that it's pretty obvious Wind Waker and Twilight Princess were made to be sequels to Ocarina and Majora in different timeline branches, as confirmed during their development by Aonuma himself as well as in-game text. At that point they should have put all the old school pre-OoT games into a separate parallel universe instead of relegating them to the "Downfall" branch just to make fans happy with a single timeline but to say there was no intended continuity is just a straight up mistruth. They just didn't think too deeply about it and made up the Downfall timeline when Aonuma kept adding sequels that demanded continuity while conflicting with the loose canon established earlier on. I think the Minish Cap and Four Swords games are the worst fit in the timeline and they really bent over backwards to make them fit instead of just making those games their own Four Swords universe.
I always just figured that the Downfall timeline made sense because he first used his pig beast form canonically in Ocarina, and then became used to it and grew stronger and ruled over hyrule more and more as time passed, idk just a thought 🤷
*Little known fact* : The so-called "chanting" in the Fire Temple is not islamic chanting at all. It's nothing more than stock library sound effect used in many other games. This is evidenced by the N64 adaptation "Cruisin' World" the same theme can be heard for the Egypt course. This game was released two months prior to Ocarina of time. The chanting might "resemble" Islamic chanting but it is nothing more than a gibberish stock sound effect. As for the "outcry" by the Muslim community, it never happened and there is no evidence to support this.
It is indeed a stock sample, Track 76 from the Voice Spectral Volume 1 library. But it has also been translated by Arabic speakers and you can clearly hear the word "Allah". You are correct again though that there was no outcry as they removed it from the game before it was ever released, they probably just already had the carts manufactured.
Koume and Kotake can ONLY be pronounced one way, because they're japanese words, so you can easily draw the conclusion that "coomay" and "co ta ke" are the only ways to pronounce them, as it wouldn't make sense for the game to be made in japan, having japanese hiragana names, and then pronounced like someone who has never spoken Japanese before
There's also an interesting connection between the Gorons, Gerudos, and Ikana: On the Road to Ikana and in the Stone Tower Temple, the player encounters an enemy called Nejiron, which essentially resemble cursed Gorons. We also find the Gorons' region in OoT and the Ikana region to be similar environments; mountain and canyon. "Death Mountain" would've also been a more appropriate name for the Ikana region. Additionally, There's Dampé, who watches over the Kakariko Graveyard in OoT and the Ikana Graveyard in MM. The Shadow Temple is the dead/undead dungeon in OoT, and it's in Kakariko, next to Death Mountain; similarly, Ikana is the dead/undead land in MM, which is a mountain/canyon environment, like Death Mountain. Next, there's the connection between the Triforce and the Spiritual Stones along with their corresponding races: The Goron's Ruby corresponds to Din, contained in the Triforce of Power, which is obtained by Ganondorf, a Gerudo. The Gerudos also have red hair, alluding to the 'red/fire' attribute. The Gorons and Gerudos have other similarities as well; environmental (mountain/canyon and desert/valley, both dry) as well as biological (Gorons being all-male, from what I know at least, and the Gerudos being all-female with the exception of Ganondorf; male Gerudos being born every 500 years, iirc.) Another short observation is that in the original NES LoZ, the player fights Ganon in Death Mountain. A final similarity being the temples: the Fire Temple, Spirit Temple, and Stone Tower Temple all have some Eastern references (Fire Temple had Islamic chanting, and a "fire temple" is a place of worship in Zoroastrianism; Spirit Temple makes references to Egyptian, Persian, and Indian culture; Stone Tower Temple alludes to the Tower of Babel). There's also some similarities between the Spirit Temple and Stone Tower Temple; both are the final temple of each game, both reference symbolism of duality in some way, both allude to desertous environments, and both have bosses fought in pairs and with similar names (Twinrova and Twinmold).
No no, you’re not understanding “OOT changed my life” and I say that in the kindest most non-confrontational manner possible. I first played this game when I was maybe 4. The Nintendo 64 was the first console I had any real experience with, and, sure, I also played & loved other classics like Golden Eye with my brothers, Smash Bros., Mario Kart, Mario 64, Pokemon Stadium/Snap, Starfox-the list goes on. But OOT? Man, that s*** really did change my life. It’s what made me fall in love with gaming. It was the first game I would willingly skip meals or lose sleep over. It was the first game that I played so much that I had dreams about it. A game I’ve played so much to exhaustion at this point that I know it inside and out. The open world, the colours, the models, the gameplay, the puzzles, the challenge, all to someone who had never cared much for video games before picking it up. This video game introduced me to a world [video games] that would later on become a huge part of my life. I’d even go so far as to say this game was my safe space. Having a bad day? Play OOT. Got bullied at school again? Get lost in the open world of OOT. Parents yelled at you and you felt alone? Talk to NPCs until you learned their speech word-for-word. Woke up on the wrong side of the bed? Sit in the open world and just listen to the OST. This game made me. On top of being a huge comfort I had as a kid, it also opened up an entire franchise to me, one of which I fell in love with. The original Zelda? Classic. Skyward Sword? Link Between Worlds? /BOTW/?! Just amazing. I owe countless hours and entertaining time surfing on the web to this franchise and to this game. So many hours I spent making fan art of my own, writing innocent fan fiction, so many friends I made that I still talk to to this day. Heck, I owe my art/drawing *and* writing hobbies solely to this game. This game introduced me to a world of creativity. And so many times, this game was the only one to wipe away my tears and encourage me to carry on, comforting me in times of tragedy. This game was my best friend growing up. This. Game. Changed. My. Life.
I'm so happy you took my advice (the one I commented in your "Super Mario 64 Iceberg: A Deeper Look" video) about showing footage of what you're talking about. Seriously, it makes for a much smoother and enjoyable experience overall. Great video :)

Super late comment but thought id share. In 5th grade I met one of my best friends because I heard him say he liked Zelda and we spent all recess talking about OoT. Long story short we both lied to each other about unlockables/secrets, and I spent a couple hours trying to get into dampes hut to find a painting that would turn Epona into Yoshi. Lol. Still one of my best friends to this day.
50:53 You can find Gorman in the Milk Bar, exhibiting signs of intoxication. He has a blush and is hiccuping and, if that isn't enough, he flat out asks if you can get tipsy from milk. The 3DS version even adds a quest where he's feeling "sick" and his brothers make a special milk to treat him, which could be seen as alleviating the effects of a hangover.
You can longshot to the island that has the fire arrows. You play the scarecrow song and the scarecrow appears there and you can walk down the island with its lowered water level and just reach it with longshot. It's pretty useless in normal play because, if you have the longshot, just like, kill morpho. But it's a useful thing for randomizers.
47:28 “I tried to stop ganondorfs men” who was serving ganondorf? It can’t be gerudo because they’re exclusively women besides him, it wouldn’t be Zora or Gorons for the obvious reason of not wanting to mess up ties with the royal family. Also there was tension between the Zoras and Gorons, if one messed with the hylians they could easily be targeted by one of the best armed nations in Hyrule. The only thing I could think of would be turncoat soldiers or other hylians.
@@pinhead5467 You don’t refer to monsters as men, men heavily implies personhood. Monsters generally aren’t given that kind of dignity, especially by a soldier who was just incapacitated by one.
After you pull the Sword out of the pedestal and go forward 7 years, it's clear that Ganondorf would often make deals with others, promising power, wealth, and/or influence for something. It would make sense that he did so much earlier than after Link pulled the Sword.
1. Nintendo, as far as I'm aware, has never confirmed such. 2. Mido would have no way of knowing such information, as it's not his business. 3. If Link's mother canonically became any tree, it would be the one Link lives in.
Trippy thing is I'm a bit older (1985) and I had the same thing with LTTP I played it when I was 8 years old and I could not figure it out and then by age 12 I finally understood enough about the world to actually progress and then it became my absolute fav of all time.
Maybe not insightful to the timeline, but it's worth noting that OoT seems to put a stronger emphasis on the sun while MM has a stronger emphasis on the moon. In OoT, one of the central aspects of the game is the Temple of Time because it's the location Link uses to travel in and out of the child and adult timeframes; The symbolism found on the Door of Time and on those giant blue blocks in some of the adult dungeons depicts the sun and beams of light emanating from it. There's also the Triforce in general, with the Golden Goddesses alluding a lot to light. Taking the Master Sword also brings about Link's transition to his adult age, where he is a Hylian, and he first meets Rauru, the Light Sage, whom is also Hylian. Zelda is of course Hylian as well. A lot of emphasis on the Hylian race. Additionally, the song we learn in the Royal Family's Tomb is the "Sun's Song", which circles through the day and night cycle and stuns the ReDeads and Gibdos (alluding to 'light/life' defeating 'dark/death'). There's also the "Prelude of Light" which is the Warp Song for the Temple of Time. (The Ocarina of Time and Master Sword utilizing blue and yellow could also allude to blue skies and sunlight, along with Link and Zelda's blue eyes and blonde hair.) Kind of a joke here, but worth interpretation as well: the overall atmosphere of OoT is more lively and uplifting, suggesting 'sunlight/daytime', while MM's overall atmosphere is despairing/depressing and revolves around death, suggesting 'moonlight/night/darkness', which fits the central theme of the cursed Majora's Moon. The Hyrule Field theme even starts with the chime of the Sun's Song and induces a feeling of adventure/excitement and utilizes more major key notes, and even Hyrule Field itself has visually brighter graphics, while the Termina Field theme utilizes more minor key notes and evokes a more 'vigilant/unsettled' feeling, and is even kind of 'cloudy/overcast' and just somewhat visually darker than Hyrule Field overall. MM also has the quests that are completed at night, such as fighting "Them" (the aliens); more moon references. It's also interesting how defeating Ganon in OoT restores light (sunlight) to the Kingdom of Hyrule, while defeating Majora restores the natural state of the moon. Another kind of joke-y interpretation: the name "Majora's Mask" and central theme of the moon could be referring to a solar eclipse, where the moon 'masks' the sun in a sense.
The eye in the Fused Shadows is the same as Majora's Mask, there's also a Sheikah eye on the back too. I've always wondered what the lore implications were.
The implication is that terminian shiekah sorcerers grew envious of hylian divinity and sought to.invade the realm of the gods and became dark interlopers of war fueled by their superiority complex. They met their fate at the hands of the light spirits when they were banished to a gap between light and dark, the twilight realm. In a twist of fate, one lone descendant of this dark tribe came closer than any of his kind to achieving his ancestors sinister goal, a destined recipient of a fragment of the golden goddesses power would also be exiled to the mysterious gap between dimensions for similar heretic crimes, ganondorf the king of thieves would manipulate and possess the man known only as zant and offer the hopeless and banished society a glimpse of true divine retribution. On a more tinfoil hat side note, some speculate the dimensional invasion had inside assistance by friendly shiekah who betrayed the royalty of hyrule and sided with their terminian mask-wielding counterparts after growing tired of serving the relatively helpless royal family for countless millennia thus explaining the distrust we see between shiekah and the royal family after the events of the interloper war, the secrecy surrounding the mask of truth in ocarina of time, evidence of conspirators and traitorous shiekah like bongo bongo as well as a general plot to control or should I say, understanding the shiekah people had of their technological and tactical superiority over the kingdom of hyrule as well as many other curiosities between the shiekah and the royal family pre and post-interloper war. Conclusion: a plot to steal the triforce was lead by a clan of mask wielding sorcerers and aided by the shiekah, it resulted in the dissolution of the divine pact the shiekah had with the royal family to protect the chosen ones eventually leading to the downfall of the kingdom as seen in twilight princess when the protectors of the royal simply were not present to intervene due to being exiled during the attack giving the plot against the gods one final chance to be fulfilled.
I think of the Song of Storms paradox like this: because Link can change things in the 7-year future (e.g. Magic Bean plants not being in the future until young Link plants them), the windmill guy had to hear the song before Link learned the song and played it to him. I like the idea that Saria, after Link gets sealed away for 7 years after pulling the master sword, leaves Kokiri Forest to find him after not hearing from him with her ocarina. Perhaps she found the song from the Composer Brothers in the graveyard, and tried using it, and that was the origin of the windmill guy hearing it. Then Link learning it as an adult and playing it as a kid kind of highjacks the causality and makes it seem like a timeloop.
I loved this video, it was so in-depth on some of the things I noticed as a kid but never looked into. Most of my Zelda memories lie with Majora's Mask and it will probably always be one of my favourtie Zelda games. My only complaint with the video is the last part, where the music holds this really loud and constant note the whole way through. It was a bit loud and distracting when not listening with headphones and I could barely hear you over it. Other than that, great work, it was a hell of a video and I had so much fun watching that it even seemed like it was shorter than it really was!
I’ve always wondered who pierced links ear during the time skip. He pulls out the master sword with unpierced ears and wakes back up with them pierces
Pierced my ear because of Link : )
Dude.. isn't it obvious? It was Rauru. He been watching link sleep for 7 years, there's no telling what he has been doing to his body.

That is my understanding of the whole thing too. The dead thing really does make sense. Not sure if I believe it though.
A stalfos of a child that somehow grew into an adult wearing knight armor? Pretty sure Link became an adult and died in battle.
He's not a stalfos, it wouldn't made sense since he would have turned in a skull kid

Fun fact, here's what the manga authors have to say about the majoras mask side story
"The series launched at almost the same time as the game release, so that meant at the start we couldn't reference the actual game play, we had seen the opening demo and the intro images, but that wasn't enough to fill up all the pages.
I've heard 2 theories on the fierce deity:
1) it's been long assumed that termina is a parallel universe of Hyrule.
I like that 2nd one
No... read the MM manga, there's a bonus story that explains it.
@@imaguyandabeautifulbutterfly oh yeah. Link danced him to death
I really prefer to believe that the tree his mother turned into was the tree his house was on in the beginning of the game, like she continued to watch over him and give him a home even in this forest where he didn't belong.
That sounds really nice I like to believe that’s the case.
it's the only tree house that is different
I love this idea, like she's continually sheltering him with her love even after death and he can always come back home to her.

:(
@@QueenOfCatsX3 true. I was a pretty dumb kid. I don't think I ever actually beat a game until I was 10 or so
maybe thats just how some people want to enjoy it lol? kinda elitist of you
i don't think it's objectively a bad thing. some people just aren't good with puzzles. i used to give up playing games entirely and just fuck around in the overworld because i had no idea what to do and walkthroughs weren't really a thing back then. i eventually got better once i was like 11-12 and figured things out on my own but some of those games i never picked back up. i might've really enjoyed them if i could have actually played them.

They made up for it by giving us the wind temple in Wind Waker.
@@robintst Yeah Nintendo should’ve gave more effort to make their shit sound not retarded

I really love videos where I can just sit and listen to someone talk about video games for a long time
Thank for you enjoying!! I'm just putting the finishing touches on my latest video and should be uploading it tonight or tomorrow morning!
Basically, it invokes the theory of “what if there was content that you missed?”
It refers to the feeling you might have had when first playing the game.
(Joking) 😝
That’s essentially it.
There is one thing I would like to add on to: “Evil is rewarded with Heaven;”
Koume and Kotake are killed.

Boy in green (or "champion" blue)* 😂

It's 3 am... perfect time to spend about 2 hours listening to someone talk about zelda.
"They're all just individual stories unless stated otherwise"
My brother in Hylia, that is all of them.
After defeating Puppet Ganon, the real Ganondorf remarks "You are indeed the Hero of Time reborn."
Twilight Princess has the Hero’s spirit who, even without the direct confirmation from HH, is still strongly implied to be the same Link from OoT and MM, given he knows the Song of Healing and was a previous weilder of the Master Sword.
“My Brother in Hylia” fucking send me, dog.
I wonder whatever happened to the Golden sword, maybe it'll show up in Botw 2?
"Hero is defeated" is such a poor name for it, it makes more sense if you consider it any form of link isn't there, if he dies, or whatever let's Ganon be victorious
I don't remember where I heard it, but I like the idea of the Hero defeated timeline is the abandoned timeline, at the end of OoT link goes back to around the time of his first meeting with Zelda, blah blah, leads to majoras and tp.
But what about that timeline you play through in the child parts of OoT post master sword pull?
Any timeline where Ganon goes drunk on triforce power and can't unpig himself is the original games timeline.

Redead are hylians:
What makes this more interesting is the well supported theory that redeads are created by the skeikah or the royal family, and not Ganon. There's a good Zeltik video on it if you wanna check it out. It would mean that the redeads in the marketplace were actually a desperate last-ditch effort by the royal family to resist Ganondorf; one that ended in vain.

Glad me and my friends weren’t the only ones who referred to making it to adult Link as “Getting big”.

Just because it's a stock sample doesn't change the fact that it is indeed chanting
Koume and Kotake can ONLY be pronounced one way, because they're japanese words, so you can easily draw the conclusion that "coomay" and "co ta ke" are the only ways to pronounce them, as it wouldn't make sense for the game to be made in japan, having japanese hiragana names, and then pronounced like someone who has never spoken Japanese before
This, aside from words that originate outside Japanese like the names link and Zelda.
I own my copy of the game. It’s mine and I’ll call them whatever I want.
(I DO know that you are correct, though) 😂
There's also an interesting connection between the Gorons, Gerudos, and Ikana:
On the Road to Ikana and in the Stone Tower Temple, the player encounters an enemy called Nejiron, which essentially resemble cursed Gorons.
The Gorons and Gerudos have other similarities as well; environmental (mountain/canyon and desert/valley, both dry) as well as biological (Gorons being all-male, from what I know at least, and the Gerudos being all-female with the exception of Ganondorf; male Gerudos being born every 500 years, iirc.)
Another short observation is that in the original NES LoZ, the player fights Ganon in Death Mountain.

This. Game. Changed. My. Life.

(The Ocarina of Time and Master Sword utilizing blue and yellow could also allude to blue skies and sunlight, along with Link and Zelda's blue eyes and blonde hair.)
Kind of a joke here, but worth interpretation as well: the overall atmosphere of OoT is more lively and uplifting, suggesting 'sunlight/daytime', while MM's overall atmosphere is despairing/depressing and revolves around death, suggesting 'moonlight/night/darkness', which fits the central theme of the cursed Majora's Moon.
If you bomb the Gossip Stone and then hit it with the Megaton Hammer while it's blue or red, it will stay that color.
Why/when would Saria leave Kokiri Forest?
