    Hey man I have been using this calculator even in 2021, but I was hoping maybe we can make a updated version? Simple calculations seems to go over the limit when the complex ones fall in line, also a way to input mutiple mice to cecck and save would be awesome! Maybe a database of mice measurements. If you can get back to me that be awesome I’d love to know the math of this.

  • @PocketDrummer
    @PocketDrummer 2 ปีที่แล้ว +28

    You guys should really come up with a database of mouse measurements so that gamers can plug their own measurements in and find a list of mice that would work well for them.
    It wouldn't be a bad way to advertise your services, either ;-)

    Hi, I think the concept of this video and calculator are amazing. Regardless of the "model" of a mouse a person would be interested in having an actual guideline of sizes is great. Nevertheless, would you consider doing an updated video? One in which you SHOW US how to make the measurements? Are we supposed to measure BEFORE the wrist wrinkles? Across the palm? (Cause you do mention from the base of the pinky to the base of the thumb).
    I'm sure a video like that would not take that much time to make and I can guarantee it would help a lot of people, myself included.

    I'm having a hell of a time finding a mouse for my short, wide hands. I'm not understanding where to measure the palm height. Your diagram is stopping short of the spot where the palm meets the wrist, but I don't know if this is where the muscles end or not. More help with the measuring would be helpful.

    • @1HP
      @1HP  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hi Nathan! Hopefully I can help you here - the measurement is intentional to be at the base of the palm to the base of the fingers. While there are intrinsic muscles (smaller ones in the hand which start at the base of the palm or in between the hand bones) many of the muscles we use to control our fingers with the mouse are located in the forearm. Regardless of location the measurement is designed to consider the palm arches so these muscles will be at their optimized lengths when matches to the measurements of the mice.
      So the intent is to use the measurements as is to help you find the appropriate mouse. The other thing to keep in mind is that even if it is slightly outside of the range, that is OK. Ultimately this is just one piece of the pie as it relates to your health. Things like your schedule, general conditioning and habits around gaming have larger contributions to your health than the decision of what mouse you are going to use. Choose what you want in terms of performance and as close to within the optimal range as possible :)

    • @nathanwhite617
      @nathanwhite617 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@1HP Thank you for responding. I'm still not quite sure where to measure and what would be considered the palm arches, but I understand the stuff about it not needing to be exact. I am more just wondering and trying to confirm what I am feeling in terms of mice that I have used. depending on where I measure, my palm length varies greatly from 95 - 105. When I saw your examples at 90 and 95, it made me question, as my hands are not large (long) at 180mm from palm base to middle fingertip. width is 81mm Most medium mice feel too long for me, but small mice feel to thin.
      I have no less than 5 mice on my desk right now as I kind of went crazy and bought a few to try them out. I didn't realize that there can really be such a thing as too small. Model O-, CM MM711, Model D-, Viper Ult. Wireless, and the one I've been using for 2 years that has malfunctioned, the G Pro Wireless. I like the Model O the best at first impression, but can tell it's extremely small (thin). The MM711 feels good for aiming but seems less comfortable than Model O-. The D- minus is very comfortable, but not great for aiming due to the fact that it seems to really want me to palm or claw it. The G Pro has never been my favorite shape as it feels like gripping an egg, and now it feels to heavy. I guess my dilemma is that I can't tell if the small ones will be less comfortable in the long run than the the other two heavier ones.

    It would be awesome if you could take our hand measurements and suggest "golden ratio" mice!

  • @N1TRO
    @N1TRO 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Tbh i think generally length matters the least. Height only matters foe claw and palm and generally thats more of a hump shape plus max hump height issue. The only one that matters in all grips and in terms of muscle overuse/control is mouse width around the areas that your fingers actually grip. And at both id say a mouse to hand ratio of 0.6 is generally optimal. But i would add a bit more leeway for the pinky mouse width as people use different angles of the finger and have different contact points. Some prefer a inner side contact very similar to the ring finger and some prefer a larger angle and contact closer to the fingertip.
    All in all mouse width at the ring finger area of 0.55 to 0.65 x hand width should be very comfy and 0.55-0.725 should be comfy. The closer to 0.6 and 0.633 the better imo. Try it and i bet your current preferred mouse fits these measurements most closely. Obviously allow for variances if you have specific non conventional grip/ contact locations and use common sense regarding whether your ideal ratio would be larger or smaller based on them.

    This is an amazing guide and I've been following these steps for my mouse selection over the past months! I am performing at optimal level (or atleast that's what i like to think) and am looking to improve more but I am curious with some questions. Regarding grip width, most mouses are measured by the total width size but doesn't state the specific grip width (the part which most people grip the sides of their mouses because it goes inwards), so is it in theory better to calculate with grip width or just general mouse width?

      My hand regarding 1hp's measurement is 105mm height and 95mm width. So at home i have a Razer DeathAdder Elite which barely fits regarding the calculator but seems to work fine for me even after hours. At work i have a Logitech G518(but more than 10yrs old) which fits fine but i have the feeling its a bit heavy. I looked up some mice from Razer and Logitech and regarding the calculator most Razer mice are not for me. But the Logitech G402 and G502 seem to be best fitting for my hand size. There seem to be much more mice for smaller/normal hands.

      @1HP  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Rosso - these are general ranges that reflect potential risk if you fall outside of the ranges. While your hands are definitely larger than most it may result in your using a claw grip over a palm to allow for better control of the mouse. Ultimately I would still choose a mouse you are interested in but just understand the underlying potential for increased stress due to the mismatch in sizing. Some of this can be accounted for with grip but in general think of the bigger picture (conditioning, scheduling >>>>>> ergonomics and mouse choice when it comes to injuries)

    • @1HP
      @1HP  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Vox - I wrote this below but yep it is definitely okay. Think of the range as a GUIDE. if you are within the range there will be less overall stress on the hand. As you move further away from the optimal range you are only very slightly increasing stress on your wrist/hand.
      In the bigger picture - the ergonomics associated with the mouse is only a small percentage of your overall health. Stretching regularly and working on the conditioning of your wrist will ensure you can use whatever mouse you want

    Im a bit confused. I've narrowed down my search between the viper ultimate and the viper mini and the DeathAdder V2 Mini. The Viper Ultimate has a simple score of exactly 2.00 which is supposed to be perfect but its complex is 1.274 height and 1.36 width. The Viper Mini has a simple score of 2.39 which is way too much but its Complex is way better than the Ultimate because it's 1.352 Height and 1.48 Width. The DeathAdder V2 mini has a simple of 2.36 which again is too high, but an almost perfect set of complex scores of 1.383 height and 1.42 width. Which do you think I should pick? it seems like the death adder v2 has the best complex scores but the Viper Ultimate has a perfect simple score. And the Viper Mini has a much better complex to the viper ultimate but the simple is way off. I'm pretty confused as to which to focus more on and what is most important.
    Sorry for the paragraph. I just want some good advice as to which would be best. I mainly use Claw grip with sometimes using a sorta lazy palm in between claw and palm.

    Fuck.
    Simple: Hand to Mouse Ratio:
    2.20
    Complex: Height Ratio:
    0.737
    Complex: Width Ratio:
    1.31
    I have huge hands (XXL), and Ive loved my G403 but have always known it was too small. Ive had wrist and forearm pain lately when adjusting my desk height setup (a lot of clicking all day, especially from League), but realized that I probably strain my hand a lot with how small the mouse is in my hand. I guess it would be worth going for something bigger like the G502.

    Is it fine if the simple calculation is 7 hundredths out of range? The hand to mouse ratio for me is 2.22 for the mouse I want to get, and its only a tiny bit out of range. I don't want to switch mouse or find a different mouse because I've been wanting to get this mouse for so long and I don't want to change it because of a measurement. Is it really that big of a deal if my measurements are only a tiny bit out of range?

      I actually talk about this in part 2 of this series :)
      Ultimately it modifies where the stress is distributed and for thumb-sided issues in certain situations it can lead to a bit more discomfort depending on how you move and control the mouse.
