    Oh man! What a great video about my city. I suggest Samborondón, Ceibos, Alborada and Miraflores (near to Urdesa), they are good too and have restaurants, parks and other attractions. And I wanted to recommend you to visit Panamá Street (Calle Panamá) located at the downtown, its perfect for a breakfast or lunch, there are good restaurants.

    Bro this is such a GOOD video I really hope it hits 100K views. I’m gonna be travelling again soon and Ecuador has been calling me all year long. This is gonna help a lot. I hope more countries in South America open up so you can visit. I’d like to see how Bolivia, Paraguay and Uruguay look especially from a Brotha’s perspective. Keep being great bro living the vids! 👊🏾

    I do advocate that first time travelers stay at the Wyndham in Puerto Santa Ana near the Malecon 2000. You showed it and the row of popular small restaurants early in the video. The hotel is very cheap compared to American prices and the buffet breakfast is very good. The hotel’s own restaurant is very good, but cheaper options are just steps away. After, a short walk on the northern end of the Malecon is nice and safe. I don’t recommend an evening walk up to El Farro (the lighthouse lookout, I may have spelled it wrong). It is a better afternoon walk up the 400+ steps. There are a lot of small bars there, but unless you’re with a group that includes locals, not at night. Sure, grab a beer for the walk up or down, but don’t hang out there. Try the sky tram instead in the day or evening, it’s cheap and a great view. You can ride it like a loop. I’ll be back there in four weeks.

      Are there any property sites which show the choice of real estate in Malecon? Plus it it generally hot and cloud-covered or do you see blue skies occasionally?

    • @andrewsmith9174
      @andrewsmith9174 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stevebbuk, I’ve experience both the overcast days and the sunny days in Guayaquil. It’s generally hot and depending on the month, it can be humid. Have sunscreen handy if you tend to burn. This is a good idea everywhere in Ecuador. Yes, there are sites you can find through google, but they aren’t the best to me. I think they tend to rate higher prices because the audience of those pages is American. The average minimum salary per month is just $450. If you see a fairly average 2 bedroom apartment on an English language site charging upwards and beyond $500/month, I would be skeptical. There could be some cause: gated community, a more upscale part of town, etc, but that’s less likely.

    • @andrewsmith9174
      @andrewsmith9174 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stevebbuk, I forgot to include, I’m no expert on Guayaquil. I have been there many times, my wife lives there for now (waiting on paperwork), and I’ve been around to several areas of the country and of this huge city itself. But learning all the ins and outs takes time.

      @@andrewsmith9174 Hi Andrew thanks for the replies. I'm torn between Guayaquil and a couple of places in Argentina, which frankly does seem to have a bit more culture and be more Europe-oriented. I am worried about crime as a prospective retiree though have less ambition and material needs as I used to have. I want a place to settle down rather than explore so Malecon is definitely on the shortlist.

    • @andrewsmith9174
      @andrewsmith9174 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stevebbuk, depending on your time frame to retirement, a lot can change. I have zero experience with Argentina. I can only speak of personal experience. I still don’t know all the specific “no go” areas of Guayaquil. I do know to stay away from the southern parts of the city. The Sauces neighborhoods are very blue collar and noisy, but full of accessible needs: little markets, shops, bakeries, etc. Urdessa is a bit of a better area and more expensive. Northern parts can have more exclusive neighborhoods, housing downtown would be like living in NYC with noise and gridlock traffic at some times, but you get close to the riverfront.
      To be honest, if you want a place to be sort of low key and beach bum, maybe Cuenca or Manta is better for you. I don’t know too much about Cuenca, but it is smaller and has a more noticeable ex-pat population. I’m less worried of being in a city and I am a reasonably active person. So Guayaquil is my first choice, but I could look at other locations when retirement is due. I have ten years to wait. It’s best to go there and see how it is. I have a wife that lives there (we dated two years and married last Aug, waiting in paperwork now), so I’ve seen the normal live there and not the vacation living/tourist treatment. I speak reasonable conversational Spanish and my reading comprehension is getting better. I’m active in soccer and have played with people in all of South and Central America and the Caribbean, which gives me other advantages in breaking through some cultural barriers. I recommend as much research as you can.

    Very, very, helpful information 👏🏾👏🏾🙂👍🏾I difinitely will save this video in my Ecuador folder. Question, if I was in Colombia looking for a nice neighborhood to live and rent I would ask " estrato 4 o 5 barrio". Same question in Ecuador or is the question asked differently? 🤔

      @slyslife  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks and I believe the highest estrato in Medellín is a 6, so an estrato 5 or 4 is just fine. I'm not too familiar with the housing terminology in Ecuador.

    A question for you: I am currently in Guayaquil anf I have noticed most of the black Ecuadorians are very rude to me. I have had 2 black street juice vendors refuse to sell me juice. They turned their back to me and stepped away from the carts. Do you know what the issue is with these black Ecuadorians acting this way?
