Ecuador just simply offers so much in such a small plot of land. And the fact that they’re on the USD is very attractive. Immigration is also uber-lax, and if you make friends with someone that has a bit of money/is respected/connected, getting some form of residency is a breeze. I initially came here on a 6 month workaway programme studying/tracking Spectacled Bears in the Cayambe-Coca National Park, and I wound up befriending this wealthy murican woman who is very well-respected in the Quito/Cayambe area, and she is expediting my residency visa through her connections to some immigration people. There’s a reason so many from Europe/murica come to live here

The good thing about being a citizen of both the U.S and Ecuador means I can visit Galapagos for 250-350$ For tourists looking to do solo backpacking and save alot of money, taxi trucks on the islands will also take you on a round trip tour in any island you choose for no more than 20-40$ Boat tickets to cross islands run 30$ per person as well. You can also find a decent hotel down there for 15-25$ in the center of each island town.

Haha, umm. As a tourist who has traveled to many countries and lived in Ecuador for a year and a half I can say for sure that Ecuador is not the friendliest country in the world 🥴 and the amount of problems in the country currently and danger is really bad. It is not a good place to live right now. 😬 I would avoid Ecuador at all costs, the only good thing is how cheap it is, but you have to live in the country to have the cheap things and it’s not worth it.
I spent my vacations in Ecuador back in 2012. I visited Cuenca, Guayaquil and the Galápagos. Sure, Galápagos was a bit more expensive than continental Ecuador but I don't remember being THAT expensive. I remember seeing the cruise ships in the harbour, those did look expensive, but there are a lot of things to do and see in Isla Santa Cruz that don't requiere to pay a lot of money. An excursion to Isla Isabela (the largest and less inhabited one) is expensive but as I said not something you have to do. Another important thing he does not mention: haggle. Most merchants will expect you to haggle to get a better price for stuff. This doesn't applies to shops in malls and big store chains, but small souvenir shops, clothes and even B&Bs will set their prices expecting you to haggle. Sometimes is just as easy as asking the price of a product, saying 'thank you' and walking away. The sales person will offer you a better price before you cross the doorway.
hahaha man you're amazing! it is so cool to see how foreigners recommend Ecuador, thank you so much for that! so happy to see you enjoyed our country, feel welcome to come back whenever you need it

I have been lucky to have visited most provinces except Galápagos (you know, it is expensive) and I can attest that Ecuador is so beautiful because I have visited other places in the Americas (including the US) and Africa. Thanks for your great review of my country 😁 The best thing about Ecuador is how near everything is. From Quito you can go to Quilotoa or Cotopaxi Volcano in 2 hours, then go the Amazonas entrance Baños and Puyo in 2 or 3 hours. Then you can go to Guayaquil and the Beach in 5 hours. A complete adventure!
I'm going to Quito for the holidays to spend it with my boyfriend's family. First time there and first time to SA! I'm Latina but it's always cool to see the differences in other cultures 😊
I love your comments but specially the ones about how ecuadorians are so good hearted and chill! That’s so true, I miss that a lot from there. Also if someone is reading, if you have the chance travel to Galapagos too, there are options to keep it a bit more budget friendly!
The religious museums in Cuenca are a must for anyone visiting , also at night when is cold drink a “Morocho” a corn sweet drink or if you want something with a bit of a kick a “canelaso” drink within alcohol and cinnamon I’m glad to see this reviews , I do live in US Hopefully after COVID gives us a break I’ll visit the mother land .
Thanks from Ecuador, is nice to see people enjoying this country, I know things are kind of bad for travelling now but when they get better, do come to visit or stay.
place i stayed at in guayaquil was a nice place, modern, with fridge and double beds $10/night. only weird part was the owner had to let me in cus he had the key to my room. i think his family stayed in the building too. never had excessive gas or altitude sickness in quito, cuenca, or ibarra. didn't have issues with sunburn cus i tan naturally no sunscreen. i was a shade darker my mom didn't recognize me at first coming home, but eyes were teary in ibarra, so i officially got sun glasses for the first time in my life, which solved the problem. i just hated the muggy beach in guayaquil. yes, cuenca was a little too chilly for me cus i had to leave house by 8/9am. then you have to lug around sweaters or jackets when it's warm by noon. i loved ibarra though, could brave the morning short sleeve with a little endurance, brisk walk, by noon absolutely perfect temps, comfortable walking weather with no humidity the peoople are extremely chill, patient, and don't' talk fast, good listeners, extremely helpful even tho they're clueless sometimes about directions. i was there 3 months and never had a single rude experience (except several with extremely hostile expats), as opposed to being sexually harrassed weekly and getting screamed at regularly in france
Always providing the correct info for western travelers. You are able to put yourself in the new traveler's shoes so well. It is a skill you have perfected Wolter.
I always remember me Ecuador, visited Guayaquil and Quito, also visited Otavalo, the market there is the main attraction of the Imbabura province, also Ibarra is certain worth a visit.
Ecuador is an amazing country is a nice biodiverse paradise. Go to Quilotoa, Yasuni, Chimborazo, Cajamarca....Olon, the list go on.... Amazing quality time.

We have indeed a wonderful country.. But I can not say the same about our nation...
For the most part, Ecuadorians leave for economic reasons not because they don't like their country.
I'm from mexico . But I'm sell . You make me want to go to Ecuador. You have so much energy . And how you capture those beautiful places.
So glad you visited my city!❤️
ECUADOR IS A GORGEOUS COUNTRY, AND THE PEOPLE IS JUST HUMBLE AND FENOMENAL, REALLY BEAUTIFUL HAPPY PEOPLE, I ALWAYS GO TO THE COST SIDE OF ECUADOR, IT IS JUST AMAZING, LOVE THE FOOD, I WILL GO BACK BY DICEMBER. HAVE FUN, ENJOY
I live in nyc and from age 6 to 19 I lived in Ecuador...very kind people, is my most memorable image...another one Ecuadorians like to be late and often do not deliver on the date something is promised. There’s a saying to illustrate...don’t leave for tomorrow what u can do the day after tomorrow
Honestly, other than Western Europe and North America (north of Rio Grand), most places are like this....
¡Viva Ecuador! 🇪🇨
Wow! Great video! As an Ecuadorian, I second everything you stated. Your videos are always great, big fan.. keep it up 👍🏻 ( one more shock: the Middle of the World monument is NOT actually in the middle of the world, 🙃)
well done. very true stuff. great country. great people. it is wonderful and easy to live here.
love Ecuador.. lots of great climbing. the food is amazing. people are wonderful.
Interesting Video! :~) And I love the Guinea Pig Statue at 5:36!
Thanks for your great review of my country 😁
The best thing about Ecuador is how near everything is.
From Quito you can go to Quilotoa or Cotopaxi Volcano in 2 hours, then go the Amazonas entrance Baños and Puyo in 2 or 3 hours.
Then you can go to Guayaquil and the Beach in 5 hours.
A complete adventure!
You were to the point and lots of information. Thank you.
I'm going to Quito for the holidays to spend it with my boyfriend's family. First time there and first time to SA! I'm Latina but it's always cool to see the differences in other cultures 😊
Great thing to do I'm sure you'll love it there.
My homeland! Glad to see yall there
Thanks for this kind review of my country! Loved your energy!
I love your comments but specially the ones about how ecuadorians are so good hearted and chill! That’s so true, I miss that a lot from there.
Also if someone is reading, if you have the chance travel to Galapagos too, there are options to keep it a bit more budget friendly!
Hope you had a great time in my country 🇪🇨 Ecuador. Thanks for all the good reviews you gave about Ecuador
The religious museums in Cuenca are a must for anyone visiting , also at night when is cold drink a “Morocho” a corn sweet drink or if you want something with a bit of a kick a “canelaso” drink within alcohol and cinnamon
I’m glad to see this reviews , I do live in US
Hopefully after COVID gives us a break I’ll visit the mother land .
Thank you so much for this video. I'm going with my Ecuadorian friend in a few months. You eased my anxiety so thanks again.
Hi
I'm from Ecuador! 🇪🇨

Do you recommend Ecuador as your first South American country....? Cheers
I would probably recommend Peru first.
Yessss. Lol. The best.
Sir @@woltersworld Why Peru? :')
Is Peru accepting tourists now?
Peru can be gruelling on the lungs if not prepared
I enjoyed the video. You are easily shocked.
Welcome to Ecuador. I'm a professional tour guide and love my country 😊
Thanks from Ecuador, is nice to see people enjoying this country, I know things are kind of bad for travelling now but when they get better, do come to visit or stay.
It's on my list to visit next. I'll hopefully climb Cotopaxi and a few other mountains. Sounds amazing!
I'm Sudanese I hope to visit Ecuador.. beautiful country
Is visiting the sudan a good idea?
@@sebastianchibrac4877 Sudan isn’t that beautiful but South Sudan is incredible, one of the best places for safari
@@joemayo4078 ok wow Sounds good
place i stayed at in guayaquil was a nice place, modern, with fridge and double beds $10/night. only weird part was the owner had to let me in cus he had the key to my room. i think his family stayed in the building too.
never had excessive gas or altitude sickness in quito, cuenca, or ibarra. didn't have issues with sunburn cus i tan naturally no sunscreen. i was a shade darker my mom didn't recognize me at first coming home, but eyes were teary in ibarra, so i officially got sun glasses for the first time in my life, which solved the problem. i just hated the muggy beach in guayaquil.
yes, cuenca was a little too chilly for me cus i had to leave house by 8/9am. then you have to lug around sweaters or jackets when it's warm by noon. i loved ibarra though, could brave the morning short sleeve with a little endurance, brisk walk, by noon absolutely perfect temps, comfortable walking weather with no humidity
the peoople are extremely chill, patient, and don't' talk fast, good listeners, extremely helpful even tho they're clueless sometimes about directions. i was there 3 months and never had a single rude experience (except several with extremely hostile expats), as opposed to being sexually harrassed weekly and getting screamed at regularly in france
Just a little tip when going to ecuador you can ask yapa which is like a bit more of something for free.
Yessss yapa! I’m surprised you know about this. As a Quiteña, I’m proud of you for knowing this lol
Great video on my beloved country, thank you for your enthusiasm and kindness explaining the things that shocked you.
Excellent report. Congratulations 👏
I wish to visit Ecuador🙏 looks like lovely place

Thanks to you Mark & Jocelyn, Quito is now on my bucket list!!!
Don't miss Guayaquil & the magical GALAPAGOS ISLANDS!❤️🇪🇨
Quito is a great city.
Great video!! Thanks soo much for the great info!
I would recommend Isla De La Plata, it’s like a budget end galapos that you can do in a single day for significantly less money. In my trip I snorkeled with sea turtles and saw humpback whales
This is the first time that I actually like a video from someone talking about my country in such a positive way, tks a lot..we are a very small country, we are not known by many travelers. I hope.more videos like this one Will get More turismo, ...of course after the pandemic ends
Yes. Exactly we're going to be great Alexandra

Just made my list of must do. Gracias!
