Dear Up North Biker, thanks so much for this video. I changed my Tiger Sport's air filter and spark plugs today and all your advice helped me so much!!
@@upnorthbiker Fortunately having seen your video I purchased a magnetic, bendy spark plug wrench! I'm living and biking in Japan, but my mother lives in Guiseley, Yorkshire. I was in England for two weeks this summer. I was so surprised how expensive the UK is now 😮
Fantastic video - thankyou so much for this and the whole series. My DealerTool arrived today ready for me to service both my Tiger Sport 1050 and my Bonneville T120. Your videos have really given me the confidence to do this myself. I had my throttle bodies done at a Triumph dealer two years ago (yes cost me around £900) so hopefully they will still be in tolerance. I had the valve clearances done at a small independent last year for half the price Triumph wanted and that included replacing all the shims!
Thank you for this very clear tutorial. It helped me out. I noticed that my 2016 Tiger sport 1050 had a set of NGK CR8EIA9 iridium sparkplugs installed at 20.000km. These have a longevity of 160.000 km( 100.000 miles) so I ended up replacing them without changing. The sparkplugs only have 20.000km on the counter, so even if I decide to change them at halve their livespan, I can ride another 60.000km with them.
Nice one UNB. I’ve had my fairings off several times now and it does become a doddle. The tang and grommet idea is great in my opinion. Always take the big fairing off first. Just the one screw under the headlight, then slide forward like you showed. Brilliant! Suggest those trying this job understand how it works before sliding the fairings back on.(Mine had been mullered by some cretin too). £248 for a replacement. That left spark plug removal. CHEAP DOUBLE ENDED SHORT BOX SPANNERS! First one will drop down onto the plug. Second one will fit into the first and stick out so’s you can get a spanner on it. Worked nicely for me. Another way to lift the spark plugs out is to use a length of rubber hose that is a snug fit over the ceramic. Also good for starting the plugs when replacing. No chance of cross threading. (That fuel connector can be a bastard ‘till you know how it works can’t it!)😊
Thanks for the video, very clear and useful as usual. However, it would habe been interesting to know the values of the throttle balancing and a quick explanation of how to balance them with the screws. Thanks. Chris
Agreed. I expected to have to adjust them but they were spot on. If you have to adjust them it is trial and error. Adjust one only and see if it looks like they can be balanced, if not try a different one. I am sure there will be other videos showing this on a tiger or a speed triple which is a very similar engine.
Thanks Jim. I tried mine but with it all being 1/2 inch drive everything was a little too wide or the extension bars were too long or too short. I will try the box spanner idea from Phil to see if that works next time or buy a spark plug socket for my 3/8 or 1/4 set if I can get one.
Hi dear, have a 2015 version of the Tiger Sport, what are your thoughts about a sport air filter like BMC or K&N? Any improvement maybe with a central update? Thanks! You did a good job here! 🫱🏻🫲🏼

Glad it helped. Did you struggle with the left hand spark plug like I did

A little bit of rust came up with the left hand spark plug. I gave it a good vacuuming and hoping for the best.........
I would check the seal on the ignition coil if there are signs of rust.
The roads in Japan look awesome. I watched the Missenden flyer’s tour and he only covered a small area.
Very useful video, I'm thinking of buying a 1050 Tiger, 😂thank you for passing on your knowledge so clearly and concisely 👏👏👍
I took a little time to gel with mine but love it now.

I couldn’t believe the 12000 mile service cost. A BMW GS major service costs less. I have only heard of the Ducatti Desmo service costing more

Thanks for the video made life much easier especially that far left cylinder, regards from Melbourne Australia.
Yep that cylinder is a pain. Glad it helped

When I finish this series I will do a follow up video called Phil’s tiger tips as you have lots of good ideas.
@@upnorthbiker True to your word. Thanks for the Phil's Tiger Tips video 👏
Well done learned something from ur video
Glad it helped

Is there not a standard value to adjust them from the repair manual?
Not that I am aware of but they should be around 440-470 mmHG. The key is to get them all the same rather than a specific value.
Thank for this vídeo
nice vids,do the tanks bubble like the earlier version cheers.
Hi, Great Vids by the way. Question.....what batter do you use on your Tiger 1050? regards
It still has the original battery on it. I ride it a lot even through winter which I think helps it stay good.
I have a YTS14-BS but on line it say YTS12-BS.....Confused. Which would you recommend. Regards
Get a swivel socket head, sometimes called a universal socket head. Makes getting that last plug out a non-issue.

@@upnorthbiker I got a set of 3 different size swivel heads. Think I use the 3/8 inch one on the Tiger plugs
nice clock on the wall ).
Made it a while ago. There is a video of it being made on my channel
Sou do Brasil e vou fazer a troca
Good news. I worked in Brazil for a short while in Curitiba. I really enjoyed the country and the people were so friendly.

Anything that helps the bike breathe easier will improve the performance. I doubt it would need remapping if that was the only change.
@@upnorthbiker thanks a lot, very kind! Greetings from Italy
