Bargains to be had with these. I just bought a low-mileage 2007 for £1,300. Came with bars, spots, luggage, low and standard seats. Like you I've had a few before and always seem to come back to them. It also came with a lowering kit which I'll be fitting asap. Maybe it'll help me keep it this time around.

Watched your ST 1300 vids and as an owner I totally agree with what you had to say. They are amazing bikes especially in large mountain passes in Canadian Rockies; it just doesn’t miss a beat and amazing in the twisties. I have a buddy of mine who has right hip issue, so went from Goldwing to Harley Road Glide and rides two up. I'm attracted to the 1050 Tiger Sport. When I moved to the UK from the US 4 years ago the Tiger Sport was on my list of bkes that would suit me. Having owned two speed triple 1050's, the last one a 2012 up until I moved overseas, I felt friendly with the 1050 motor, and the Tiger's ergos would've suited my 60 year old (at that time) skelton. I bought a 2007 Tiger 1050 in 2014. It had 24K miles on it. I paid $6K for it. It's been VERY reliable and now has 35K miles. The only unusual problem I had was when I went to upshift on my way to work and the external shift linkage broke. I had no way to shift with my foot. I pulled over, used my hand to put it into 3rd and rode 10 miles home with no problem. The engine is so torquey, I easily pulled 3rd from a standstill. The $125 replacement shifter had been redesigned and has worked perfectly since I installed it. I have never experienced the hot start issue that Jonny talks about. I would highly recommend this bike.
I have owned 3 1050's and never experienced the hot start problem. My only real issue is the gearbox is a bit clunky and on the latest bike occasionally it is reluctant to upshift from 1 to 2.
I was on the verge last week of p/exchanging my 2017 Tiger Sport for an Africa Twin but just can’t do it. Want for a ride yesterday on the Tiger Sport and thought wtf am I doing! It’s such a great bike, easy to live with and plenty fast enough for me. Today I cancelled the AT order. It was just another shiny toy that I would be bored of in a couple of months.
Got a Tiger 1050 virtually identical to yours. It is the second one I have had. It is just so good and at 74 I can ride 6-8 hundred k's and still feel comfortable. Unfortunately the other day crashed it broken ribs broken shoulder you know the deal - not sure if the bike will be written off or not. I was thinking of a Tiger Sport but was interested to read your comments re riding position.
Sorry to hear that mate , but you lived to ride to ride again 😎, I tried the tiger sport and didn’t like the riding position as it was a bit more “ forward “ , not as sat back as the standard 1050 and I felt more pressure on the wrists .
@@JonnyLeeguitarist The Tiger 1050 was written off and after 3 months recovery I have bought a 2011 Triumph Tiger 1050 grey and black with 25K kilometres so just run in. Went for my first ride today and already I can see this is going to be a great bike. Only real difference is has a two button system to control / alter screen that I have yet to get my head around. Anyone know a site on the net as I don't have the owners manual.
I had a similar hot start issue with my 2014 Street Triple R. After much internet searching and deliberation I swapped out the starter motor for an uprated version from Ricksmotorsports. Never had a problem since ;-)
Hey Matt. I'm new to your channel. I'd just like to say maybe the sports bike are less frequently seen now is because fewer youngsters are passing their bike test but buying cars instead. I know when I was younger I had rd350s and gsxr750s but if I came back to bikes now I would a triumph tiger 1050 or yamaha super tenure and other similar bikes from BMW, Honda, Motto Guzzi etc, I have no proof of this but just a thought.
I bought a 2009 abs tiger for 3,700 US. It had 40k miles but still runs great. I don’t think one will find more bike for the price anywhere than a 1050 tiger.
Just bought an 09 1050 yesterday with all the bags off the s3cond owner for $2800 has all original paperwork and both sets of keys its amazing was one hell of a find.
When I got my 09 Tiger 1050 it pulled very well from low revs but over 6k was a bit breathless. This was due to it running a bit weak for emissions. The old ECU runs it slightly richer and so it picks up and revs out much better. I also got more mpg! I might still have one in the garage if you want to try it. Graeme.

Hi Jonny. I had one just the same for 10 years and found if you fit the ECU from the 2006 model ( pre secondary air injection) it will fly. Easy straight swap and about 50 quid.

Hey Johnny, this is my first time watching your stuff. Absolutely fantastic! I was cracking up 20 seconds in. I have a question for you; Have you had your ass on a mid 2000s Tiger 955i? I have only ridden a big cruiser and am looking at touring bikes and found what seems to be a steal of a deal on a 955i. The one I'm eyeing is a 2005 model
I'm in love with the looks and sounds of this bike. I'm 186 cm tall and this bike is def on my list. People praise them, but can someone tell me some "buying guide" for this baby? Thanks in advance! 😄
Well done mate. I fekin love your video😂 i couldn't help me self to not to stop the video and do the comment, because i could hear me self talking 😂😂😂 absolutely fekin brilliant ❤👍👍👍👍👍👌😂😂👍👍👍
I have an 07 model and the clutch switch went......so I linked the wires..... shortly after the petrol gauge stopped working. I tried everything to resolve it including replacing the clocks. but a year later with one sentence in a thread online, I found out that the clutch's switch affects the fuel gauge....WHAT??? well 1050 sport one was over £80 but a 1050 sprint switch fitted (£15) and just needed cutting into the loom. Switch sorted fuel gauge sorted....who knew?
I’m asking you as you have had a few, As I am on verge of buying one. Some forums and videos say the tiger 1050 has a clunky gearbox. So what’s your opinion? Where does this rumour come from?
To be honest it’s not as clunky as my bmw GS which is very clunky - first gear on the triumph is , but my zzr1400 is way worse . It’s nothing to worry about.
Did you get one? If so what year and is the gearbox clunky? I may end up with one myself sometime so am curious. I owned a 2012 Speed Triple 1050 and it's gearbox was stiffer and clunkier than the 2005 speed triple 1050 I had, but both Triumph gearboxes were probably at least as good as the one in the 2018 Duc Supersport I now own.
Hi, Jonny...have you ridden the Tiger 850 ?....I have a 2007 1050 Speed Triple that I love, don’t want to part with it, but would like a more comfortable long distant bike. Thanks for your thoughts on your 1050 Tiger... I will take a look at one as I know the engine having the Speed Triple.
Yes I tried a demo bike of the 850 , It’s definitely lighter and i didn’t think it was underpowered BUT it was just missing the extra oomph ! , the 1050 is way better all round … thanks for watching mate I appreciate it .
2:09 I'm a physics associate professor, I make a good salary, and still a 1250GS costs an entire year of my income (before I pay my taxes) here where I live. That is truly preposterous!
I am 66 and buy at least two bikes a year. My 2007 tiger 1050 was my longest lived bike. I have had everything and some twice and three times. Recently rode a new Tiger 900 and sorely disappointed at the nasty note and vibes. This got me thinking about how stupid Triumph engineers are to have ruined a great motor and classic sound. I am looking for a used Tiger 1050 as a type. I am like you. I bought a 2015 Ducati Multi with and had everything but that was a few years ago and I got a good deal on it. I don't care how many bells and whistles they put on the bikes now, 25k for a loaded GS is insane. I just ain't gonna do it. Cheers from across the pond.
I have a 2008 tiger, excellent bike, its a triple and sounds like a triple because it is one,why would the designers at triumph want a triple to sound like a twin and incure vibrations to a brilliant triple engine ,could anyone enlighten me
Been looking at a Matt grey one of these myself 2017 or above or a standard 1250gs te not the adventure there’s a good 7k price difference if you get one with rally paint spoked wheels etc in this climate it’s hard to justify
@@JonnyLeeguitarist 13500/14500 for one with luggage and a nav on 2019/2020 with about 5k on it can add another 2/3k on that for the adventure aren’t sure what it is about the bmw thought still keep going back to look at reviews and at them on auto trader
Johnny my bike standard screen is very good ,the tiger is for my money the best bike .speed, torque, ergos engine heat ,brakes And yes they are fast and unique looking love it to the maximum!!!😁
What do you expect from a "chinesium" windscreen ad-on?🤔 good review, unfortunately I just lost my 68 year old brother do to covid related complications. On a happy note, my son will be taking over his 07 tiger 1050 that only has 8K Mi on it.
I bought a brand new GSXR1000K9 back in 2009. It was the most expensive thing I'd ever bought. It was £9500 with alarm, crash bungs, tinted screen, and tail-tidy. In 2012 I almost totally stopped riding it. I bought a banged-up old DR600 and... somehow it was just more fun to ride. I was a lot less precious with it, that's for sure, but also the noise, the power delivery, the involvement, it was just *better.* So now I'm looking for a bike again and I've always wanted a ZZR1400 but I just I'll be disappointed with it, because everything is disappointing, and I'll ride it too damn fast. So I'm thinking about a Triumph Bobber instead. Never ridden anything like that.
After 40 yrs of sports bikes .Got an 07 one myself loaded with gear except panniers but what a bike don’t think I will ever get shot of it ,hot start issues are down to shit battery cables there’s an upgrade, search pudding cables another good mod is a volt metre let’s you know any probs with rectifier as soon as it happens and will save you some shit 👍
I have a 08 1050 and I would say the best thing I got for it is a Corbin ( Canyon ) seat. It's high as shit but definitely better than the stock one for longer rides.
Johnny I owned a few bikes Including hayabusa and I now ride an08 tiger 1050 and I love it to the max a pair of high end led bulbs and problem solved. I rid every day
Hello there, i know im a bit late for this video, im about to buy a '11 Tiger, do these keep having the same "hot start" problem? If it is, how is the best way to fix it, thanks for the review, i'd really love to own one of these machines.
The hot start problem can be fixed with an updated battery and thicker battery leads .. there’s a triumph tiger Facebook group and you can contact a guy called “Jeff pudding Halford “. He makes the leads and it %100 works .
Perhaps you should have considered the Yamaha Super tenere? shaft drive huge engine long engine pedigree cheaper than a BMW about the same price as that.
Hi Jonny…. This is Joe from Germany. I just bought a 2008 Tiger1050, which is a phänomenal bike indeed. But i Need new tires now. Do you have a recommendation for tires???
@@JonnyLeeguitarist. Yes true I don’t know wether it was a freak between trees in th e welsh hills. Other than that was a fab bike. I was on a vfr 800 when I tested it. Bloody quicker than vfr by some margin.
I've been watching some videos lately on the tigers and didn't realize they are so comfortable. What I've seen are the 900 but they rave about them. I think the big heavy bike are loosing their appeal as touring bikes and people are using adventure bikes and sport touring bikes for the long multi day trips. You see it yourself all ages are buying dirt bikes dual sports adventure and sport touring bikes and little else.
I wouldn't feel too sorry for the smaller rider, 97% of blikes out there are suited to them. I'd love a Royal Enfield but they don't cater for people over 6 ft. Neither do Triumph with 95% of there bikes. If there is any hightism going on in the motorbike industry it's the tall who are discriminated against lol " if there is such a thing "
Sports bikes are not as popular as they used to be because you can get a bike that handles great goes like stink and stops on a dime without having to buy a sports bike, whereas when I was young the manufacturers spent all the r and d on there sports bikes and everything else was , well just a bit naff, if you wanted top drawer suspension brakes and chassis you had to buy a sports bike, but somewhere in the late nineties that changed and the bike manufacturers started to understand that we all didn't want a sports bike but we wanted the same level of ridability as a sports bike, I think we have Ducati and Triumph to thank with the speed triple and monster .
So..had a st1300..lots of touring then Mrs didn't want to anymore.... Then a zx14..could sit in it all day but it didn't want to go slower than 130kph ....then a GSX1400... then one day after a whole day around the countryside, couldn't walk proper... arthritis in the knee caps..sold it...bugger..now, 6 months later..lots of gym, fish oil and glucosamine, way much better and need a bike ....do I 2000 st1100 60,000km stg 3000, or... 2011 Tiger 1050 55,000 km stg 4500 ... Dilemma... Want to regularly throw the 2 piece surf rod and tent and bugger off down the coast for few days...oh yeah..am just 65, 6'1" and strong and fit.
Honestly , the triumph tiger is the one to get , the ST1100 is a great second choice . I also had the zzr1400 and it was insane ,way too fast for the road .
Taste is a personal thing... This Tiger is not as ugly as the GS, but then nothing is as ugly as a GS. But put it next to a ST1100 or a VFR (up to 6th gen) and have a good look... Very, very few true sport touring bikes can beat those 2 Honda's, with the possible exception of an RT. Yet the V4s run a lot nicer than the very characteristic boxer. But, as I said, all very personal.

@@nickbenfell4327 I’m in a couple of Facebook groups that are pretty good for info .
I had a similar hot start issue with my 2014 Street Triple R. After much internet searching and deliberation I swapped out the starter motor for an uprated version from Ricksmotorsports. Never had a problem since ;-)
Excellent
Bought a used ‘08 in 2009. Been riding it ever since. Great for my old man knees! 😂
Yep I feel your pain mate 🤣
Hey Matt. I'm new to your channel. I'd just like to say maybe the sports bike are less frequently seen now is because fewer youngsters are passing their bike test but buying cars instead.
I know when I was younger I had rd350s and gsxr750s but if I came back to bikes now I would a triumph tiger 1050 or yamaha super tenure and other similar bikes from BMW, Honda, Motto Guzzi etc,
I have no proof of this but just a thought.
Valid points mate
Nice one mate, thanks from Australia
Cheers mate !
I bought a 2009 abs tiger for 3,700 US. It had 40k miles but still runs great. I don’t think one will find more bike for the price anywhere than a 1050 tiger.
I totally agree
Just bought an 09 1050 yesterday with all the bags off the s3cond owner for $2800 has all original paperwork and both sets of keys its amazing was one hell of a find.
Great opinion mate, keep on rolling
Cheers mate
When I got my 09 Tiger 1050 it pulled very well from low revs but over 6k was a bit breathless. This was due to it running a bit weak for emissions. The old ECU runs it slightly richer and so it picks up and revs out much better. I also got more mpg! I might still have one in the garage if you want to try it.
Graeme.
Just got a 1050 09 and I didn't see any problems on the pull.
Great video, im in Australia and ive got a 08 1050 tiger best bike ive ever had, im going to order one of them extension screens, also the tigers came out standard with braided brake lines, 👍
Yeah the extender is awesome, my 07 and 08 never had braided lines . I’ll have to look into that . Thanks for watching
@@JonnyLeeguitarist No worries mate, in a few other videos ive seen they say braided lines are factory and all the ones ive seen over hear are braided, I could be wrong haha 😄
One of life’s mysteries I guess 😂

Ive owned my 2011 Tiger 1050 SE since new, as soon as I was off my Learner/Provisional limits I financed one, now 13 years on its got 118,000kms on it and Im not sure what to get next.. I wont say it hasnt been without issues but for the most part its been solid even with the victorian era gearbox. Ive told myself I wont get another... but I cant say never..
If it works for you that’s all that matters , they are pretty awesome .
Any tips on the engine imobilizer issues with this bike? I have this model, any tips would be appreciated
Honestly I haven’t had any issues at all with it .
I have a 15' model and before her i had about 10 bikes. No one of those fitted like the Tiger Sport. It's a perfect bike.
Yeah they just do everything perfectly
That is a spectacular adventure bike!!! You can’t go wrong with a Triumph.
Yep , it’s awesome
I had a Kawi GTR1000, too heavy and cramped but good power, sold it bought a KLR650 now wishing I had more power.
My inseam is 35" so a pain in the arse to find something that properly fits, might see if the dealer will give me a go on one 👌
Yeah this ticks all them boxes ,let me know if you try one .
Hi Jonny. I had one just the same for 10 years and found if you fit the ECU from the 2006 model ( pre secondary air injection) it will fly. Easy straight swap and about 50 quid.
Interesting 🧐

Where did the mirror extenders come from?
They were on it when I bought it , I was told they were off the speed triple .
Yeah I’ve ridden one . They’re not as smooth as the newer tigers, but still a great bike .
I'm in love with the looks and sounds of this bike. I'm 186 cm tall and this bike is def on my list.
People praise them, but can someone tell me some "buying guide" for this baby?
Thanks in advance! 😄
Service is history is everything mate , make sure all the important jobs have been done , valve Clearance etc .

I’ve never heard that before , great info !
Whats the bit of music at the end?
By a guy called brockford Lee here’s his channel - th-cam.com/users/Ears2YouVlog
Just bought a 2017 model. Fooking ace!
Yeah I love mine . Does everything
2:09 I'm a physics associate professor, I make a good salary, and still a 1250GS costs an entire year of my income (before I pay my taxes) here where I live. That is truly preposterous!
It’s madness
You mentioned the 1250 GS Price. $24,750 USD in the US before panniers and other options.
Expensive!
Hi Jonny, looking to buy this very bike, is it all good ?
Yep , it’s sweet as a nut
Nice clean bike, lucky find. !!
Yep she’s mint .
MIght want to try TRT ...I found that it vanished my hip and knee pain amongst other benifits,
Cheers for the info .
Yeah I still can’t believe the price of a GS , it’s madness ! .. thanks for watching mate I appreciate it.
Yeah I like the GS , they’re just way overpriced
@@JonnyLeeguitarist 13500/14500 for one with luggage and a nav on 2019/2020 with about 5k on it can add another 2/3k on that for the adventure aren’t sure what it is about the bmw thought still keep going back to look at reviews and at them on auto trader
@@DucatiDale yeah me to, the service costs put me off aswell .

What do you expect from a "chinesium" windscreen ad-on?🤔 good review, unfortunately I just lost my 68 year old brother do to covid related complications. On a happy note, my son will be taking over his 07 tiger 1050 that only has 8K Mi on it.
The add on just needs adjusting , once you find the sweet spot it’s great .
I was a lot less precious with it, that's for sure, but also the noise, the power delivery, the involvement, it was just *better.*
So now I'm looking for a bike again and I've always wanted a ZZR1400 but I just I'll be disappointed with it, because everything is disappointing, and I'll ride it too damn fast. So I'm thinking about a Triumph Bobber instead. Never ridden anything like that.
Yeah I got rid of my zzr1400 because it was just too much for the road . Licence or life loser 😳
I love these little ride alongs. So is this the only bike you have now or were you just click baitin' me? 🏍🎸🤘😅🤘🎸🏍

I have a 08 1050 and I would say the best thing I got for it is a Corbin ( Canyon ) seat. It's high as shit but definitely better than the stock one for longer rides.
I bought an air soft seat cover , made a huge difference, no pain and hours of comfort .
The GS is a stonking bike all round but 20K is a huge price to pay, I was thinking about putting my wife on only fans so I could get one.

Yeah they’re a good bike , a mate of mine has one , he loves it … I may or may not have just bought a BMW r1200 gsa tho 😳

Hi Jonny…. This is Joe from Germany. I just bought a 2008 Tiger1050, which is a phänomenal bike indeed.
But i Need new tires now.
Do you have a recommendation for tires???
The reason that sports bike sales continue to fall is because young folk in the UK are not getting involved with motorcycles.
Yeah there’s definitely a decline .

Its a Triumph. How could that go wrong. 😄👍
Not much 😎
I've been watching some videos lately on the tigers and didn't realize they are so comfortable.
Yeah there’s definitely more of these types on the road now than ever before . They just make a lot of sense .
You know what , I completely agree with you !
I completely agree
I think you did the right thing man... BMWs are overpriced and just too big, imo
Yeah they’re huge
I've a 2011. Dogs bollox
Best bike I’ve owned
Taste is a personal thing... This Tiger is not as ugly as the GS, but then nothing is as ugly as a GS. But put it next to a ST1100 or a VFR (up to 6th gen) and have a good look... Very, very few true sport touring bikes can beat those 2 Honda's, with the possible exception of an RT. Yet the V4s run a lot nicer than the very characteristic boxer. But, as I said, all very personal.
Yeah I still own the st1100 from my other videos . I love it
