The miniaturized colonies subplot took the show over the top for me.

Only eight episodes? O.o Something I could finally binge haha! Love the pop-culture reference too! :)))) I actually started watching a new toon from Netflix recently. The more kid-friendly show, Kipo. Wholesome and funny, just like She-Ra~

Only eight episodes - you could breeze through it in one sitting! 😁 And ohhh omg I keep hearing such good things about She-Ra - I should totally check that one out!

As someone who enjoyed R&M but grew to detest it while continuing to watch in fomo, I felt refreshed back when I discovered this and could enjoy high concept ideas that didnt try to upstage the character dynamics and comedy that was delivered naturally instead of slapping you round the face telling you that it's being funny. Justin > Dan

Man, I actually didn’t know this existed!
...How does it compare to Community though? 🤔

HAHAHA PLEASE WATCH IT 😂 And LOL funny enough, it's got more Community vibes than R&M; probs cuz of the less out-of-this-world space adventures and somewhat larger helping of pop culture references/meta commentary. Though it's ironic since Dan Harmon's got nothing to do with this one, AFAIK.

As a pretty big R&M fan myself, the trailer turned me off a bit as well. I can’t put my finger on it per se, but I think it was because of the obvious superficial components that are easier to critique (i.e. the voice acting you mentioned, animation style, etc). So it was a bit jarring and surreal to hear what was, to me, Rick’s voice in a totally different character. I’d be willing to maybe invest some time into an episode or two.
When would you say does it “get good?” That is, the turning point. I know it’s worth asking; take The OA for example. When I share with folks that I think they should watch that (sadly cancelled) series, I feel compelled to tell them that it starts slow, but you gotta stick with it at least until maybe the 2nd or 3rd episode and only then will it have that magnetic appeal, at which point if you don’t stick to it, then no problem. But, if you do, you’re in for a hell of a ride.

Haha I was exactly the same when the marketing for this first came out! It just seemed like a cash-grabby rip off of R&M's universe, and it didn't help that Roiland pretty much sounded like Rick-Lite with his character.
BUT - I will say the series is quality from the very first episode. There are only 8 in total, and Roiland and co. waste no time with the dynamic sci-fi storylines and clever jokes that we all love R&M for; yet manage to stay unique to the series' universe. If you ever get around to seeing it, I'd love to hear your thoughts! 😃

@@ana-isabel - Alright took the time to watch through the whole series. I agree with you wholeheartedly. Not spoiling anything here, I will say that it eventually does do a great job taking on a life of its own. The R&M association really is just an issue with *first impressions* and not a problem with the show itself.
Now, the show itself is still funny and interesting. Plus they've apparently got *a lot* more freedom thanks to the lack of censorship which I think really helps give them more freedom to explore a bunch more avenues for their humor. Thanks for the nudge!

With respect, it is just a shittier a version of Rich and Morty, not a criticism, I mean gold is just a shittier version version of platinum. But the only thing this show has over Rick and Morty is the shrunken people side plot and the fact we often have to wait years for new Rick and Morty episodes.
