    You didn't mention that in the back of the third bag there was a small tear the bullet exited the third bag but it didn't touch the fourth. In the 300 Win Mag you're using 180 grain bullet versus 150 grain bullet. If you would have used 175 grain in the 7 mm Remington you would have got similar results.

    Hmm couldn't find the bullet from 300 in the flour did it really penetrate the 4th bag or was it the force of the flour impacting the bag. there was alot of flour on the front of that bag which was given a big push.
    My thoughts on the first test with the 7mm is the bullet tumbled and came out the sideways so missed the 4th bag.
    Might be worth doing the test again and have a kitchen sieve in hand. In the names of science and entertainment.

      In both instances, you can see something bounce off the fourth bag and fall on the pallet.

    I think the rip in the 4th bag of flour on the .300 Win Mag shot was just the result of energy transfer, not the bullet actually entering the 4th bag. I think you would have found the bullet in the third bag.

    For hunting flour 7mm is more popular 300 winmag is used more for hunting sugar and corn syrup specially in Africa since these are considered dangerous!!! 338 win mag is used in Alaska for hunting brown sugar and molasses

    We don't seem to have a lot of destructive invasive wild bags of flour roaming around here in Texas so I will stick to 7.62x39 for the hogs we do have , but if we do get invaded by bags of flour it looks like either 7mm mag or 300 Win. mag will both get the job done.

    In 1970 I bought a Savage 110DL in 7mm Ram Mag. Love it, and it’s a tack driver which shoots better than I do. I am a southpaw (Someone on another channel said I shouldn’t call myself a lefty in certain circles.) and that was the only left-handed bolt action available at the time. I was really ticked off when i took it into a gun shop in the 80s for a small issue and the clerk said not to spend too much money on it.
    Anyhow energy is proportional to the square of velocity and momentum is proportional to the velocity. If a bullet hits its target with the same energy as another heavier one, it will give up more of its energy at lesser penetration. In a more complex target like a game animal this will prevent over penetration. I noticed in the water jug video that the 300 Win Mag bullet had come apart. Weight retention of the bullet is also critical in the stopping power of the round.

    I've hunted with a 7mm rem mag for 33 years, and a .300 win mag for over 20 years, I shoot 140 grain bullets in the 7mm and 150 grain bullets in the .300, I live in LA where the the bag limit on deer is pretty liberal, 6 deer per year so as you can imagine I've killed a lot of deer with both rounds. I can tell you the difference between the two as a general rule of thumb on deer, Most shots with 7 mm the deer that aren't dropped usually run on average 20-50 yards, with the .300 most deer make it about 3 feet straight down lol! Of course there's always exceptions to everything, shot placement is key of course. I like to shoot bonded bullets with a mixture of lead and copper, in these thickets and briar jungles where we hunt even a 50 yard blood trail sucks without a good exit hole, If I lived in areas of the country where thick cover to them is like open woods to us then I wouldn't be that picky about bullets, but down here I always want a good exit hole, that's why I don't shoot solid copper, they will penetrate just about anything wich is wonderful, but they have dime size exit holes at best, wich ain't worth a flip in a briar thicket! Personally I load accubonds and trophy bonded bear claws, and in my lower velocity guns like .308 I don't mind a little bit softer bullet like a winchester deer season xp, or the sierra gamekings and even those powerpoints like you used in the video, to me those bullets are just fine in velocities at 2800 fps and lower. Just my 2 cents for what it's worth! One thing about shooting those lower weight bullets in the 7 mag and the .300, recoil is minimal.

    Fantastic answer! I saw this dish on a Chef Ramsey show called Beef Wellington, steak wrapped in a crispy flour crust. They said it was really good, but I've never had it - it's not like cattle hunting is a thing, nor should it be. _But flour hunting was something I'd completely overlooked plus they say that the secret is all in the crust!_ I'm going to have to check and see if I need a license for flour and find out what the bag limit is - I may get lucky enough to try that Beef Wellington for myself. Thanks for another outstanding video! 👍

    • @russellkeeling9712
      @russellkeeling9712 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The lighter bullet in the 7mm will have a lower sectional density than a heavier bullet in the 7mm. It may travel slower but it will penetrate deeper. I believe the advantage the .300 would have in a test like this is that larger bullets are available for the .300 than the 7mm. To match the sectional density of the longer 7mm bullet the .300 must use a longer bullet resulting in a much heavier bullet.

    A good suggestion would be to compare the 7mm 300 and 338. If you are able to find the right bullets the 7mm should be a 160 grain a 300 should be a 180 grain and a 338 should be a 225 grain bullet. If you pull the bullets from the case you’ll see their the same length jusy about which gives them theoretically the same penetrating capability with diameter of the hole being only difference. But that’s something to suggest anyway awesome video awesome channel

    You could have used a 160 or 170 grn. bullet for the 7mm . Making them more equal. The 7mm 150gr. would have reached major expansion deflecting it to the right out of the 3rd bag. Would have hit the 4th like the 300 win mag. did. I feel their very close in capability.

    • @paulhomsy2751
      @paulhomsy2751 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Sorry, but you are wrong. Using a 160 grains bullet in the 7mm would require a 190 grains bullet in the .300. What matters when comparing different bullets in different calibers is called "form factor". Form factor is often misused instead ofergonomic but its true meaning is in ballistics. In this instance, using bullets from different calibers that are very similar in sectional density primarily and to a lesser extent, shape, i.e; boatail, spitzer, etc.... (they share similar form factors) FYI. A 170 grains bullet in 7mm, without getting too technical is closer to a 195 grains bullet in .30 caliber. The bullets used in the video aside from sharing similar form factors also are the most popular chambered by manufacturers respectively. The choice of bullets in this video is what is called an "apples to apples comparison". Perfect choices.

    Fun stuff gents. Back in early 90s we were given a bunch of flour that had weevils. I had my 7mmRemMag & was sure this would make a huge white cloud. It didn't. It just tore a big hole through back. But a 75gr. Sierra HP from a 243 was much more dramatic. Try hitting 1 bag with a light fast round & move up to a big heavy slow HP. It would be interesting to catch on slow mo.

      To get a real comparison you have to use bullets with similar sectional densities. This means for a 7MM caliber this would be a 160 grain bullet, SD is .283, and for 30 caliber this would be a 180 grain bullet, SD is .271.

    you should have look for the bullet of the 300.. if you look at the 7MM it went off to the side, your placement shot was not centered..

    And the 300 kills deer ! Shot one in C T and it hit way harder than my 270. Even I was like 🥴. But no tracking . Be safe. 🇺🇸

    I bet that if you used a Nosler partition or a Barnes TTSX in both rifles the bullets would penetrate the last bag too. In my experience Power Points just don’t hold up very well at magnum velocities.

    Better shot placement would be required for a true test. If the 7mm came out of 3rd bag, it would have been in 4th bag if a better shot

    At 7:06 you actually see the bullet drop out of the third one on to the skid then fall off......and after watching again, at 3:24 the same exact thing happens on the first shot. Who tee who, if you rewatch this footage, you will see both bullets come out, and fall to the skid, then to the ground

    7mm is good round to build onto a 300 sniper stock, it feeds through 300 magazines without any issues and is lighter recoil and a little bit flatter trajectory, only thing you sacrifice is some energy.
