2024 Kia Sportage Hybrid EX Trim - Should I Buy An Extended Warranty?

  • I bought a new 2024 Kia Sportage Hybrid (EX trim level) the other day. I was pretty happy about my purchase--until I started dealing with finance. Then my day fell apart. Don't get me wrong. The dealership was awesome and treated me really well, but I just wasn't prepared for the high pressure sales pitch for the extended warranty. I'm going to tell you about my experience so that you can be ready when you purchase YOUR new Kia Sportage (or whatever car you decide to purchase).

I have worked with dealerships and have been studying them for a long time. It also helps that I know quiet a bit about the mechanical aspects of the cars. Do not ever buy any warranty from the dealership. They will make your life a living hell if you ever wanted to claim it. They will find 20 different ways to deny you the repair. Any glitches to the system will be covered through the manufacturer and especially on a brand new car.
One thing that I do is going into the dealership with the expectation to walk out at any time. It is a chess game they want to play and you just gotta be patient enough to out work them. Always finance with your bank and never the dealership. It will be significantly faster and they will get their money without going through long small talks. Make sure you let them know after you negotiated the total price about your loan.
If they keep bugging you if you are financing, let them know you are but don't tell them you are financing from outside. Keep milking them all the way to the end before letting them know you are preapproved. Hundred percent of the time, I have gotten a much better APR through the bank than the dealership.

We bought our Kia from the same place --only because a friend worked there. When he quit, he said they're not the greatest...and this talk about buying extras proves it. Scammy.
Upside...LOVE my Kia! It's now 12 years old and still doing great!
Wish we had the extra $ then to get a larger one. We got a smaller hatchback, but wish we could have gotten the Sportage or Sorento.

Like I said, the dealership was great. The salesman was amazing. No pressure. Personable. Would definitely buy from him again. Manager was cool too. Finance guy was cool too ... just felt yucky when it was happening.

Nice to hear that you like your car and that it's still running too strong after 12 years.

With a KIA there is no need for an extended warranty. My first two KIA’s I drove for 200,000 miles each without issue.

Dealing with finance departments can be frustrating. But everyone has to make a living and these guys get good commissions for these warranties.

We bought a 24 Sportage PHEV last month - cash, through the Costco program. $1250 under MSRP, but It still took several hours to get through the BS and receive the keys. I must have said NO to extended warranties or service planes several dozen times to a parade of sales people and “managers.” A truly awful experience, hopefully not to be repeated for at least ten years.

We just got our 24 Sportage Hybrid EX Premium last Saturday and experienced the same thing. We caved to the pressure and got the mechanical breakdown warranty because they were able to get our monthly payment to $10 below our budget including the warranty. We live in a no-penalty state for paying off the loan early. Part of me sleeps better at night having that warranty but the other part of me tosses & turns at night knowing it’s insanely marked up & overhyped.
I haven’t yet learned how the paddle shifters work. Could you demonstrate those and how using paddle shifters can increase your MPG?
We adore this car. The sunroof with power lift gate is a great midlife crisis bonus we allowed ourselves since we haven’t bought a new car in 20 years.

Nice. I wanted that package too but I decided to save for a few things after the fact, like a tow hitch and some visual modifications.

I will try out the paddle shifters and see if I can figure something out!

I don't think paddle shifters will save on fuel ... I think it's usually the opposite. People use them to make their car feel more like a manual. But this morning I tried them out and they DO force the car into overdrive (a higher gear anyway) when in sport mode which could save fuel if you like driving in sport mode. In sport, the vehicle doesn't seem to want to shift into a lower-rpm gear.

I just bought an sx prestige HEV. For $2k I got 6 years/100k bumper to bumper incl electronics. 10year/200k power train. The tech scares me.
I negotiated the ext warranty from 3k to 2k.

Extended Warranties are a scam. The change in tone from sales day to next day is on sales day it’s the salesman’s commission. The day coming back after purchase is now a customer service/relation problem.

Your car model is EX right? Price including all taxes?

    • @myboringchannel
      @myboringchannel  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@MRLOBO-bv6id I traded in a car that was more valuable so I didn't pay any taxes. The MSRP was 33,800 and I paid 33,300 and I also got all-weather floor mats thrown in. I just uploaded a video on those floor mats today.

What if I said "I'll give you your website listed MSRP right now, out the door, throw that in for free". Never going to happen? Or-- maybe? or--- you crazy?

@@myboringchannel sorry. I don't like negotiating and thought I'd say "My offer is the website price with the extended warranty included." Period.
