    The more smaller projects like this boost the confidence little by little. With all the TH-cam channels and forums. There ain’t a thing a guy with mechanical inclination can do. Stay humble. Got my sub and like dude. I try fix my truck when it needs it

      The only thing I would do differently is if you are using spray cans instead of 1k clearcoat use the spray max 2k clearcoat. I used clearcoat on the center parts over the color shift. It's a few dollars more but hardens faster and is an all around better product. I will be back on the obs truck videos in a couple months.
      Here you go 👍

    So cool you showed that mistake. It definitely happens and don’t always trust the guy at the counter and bring your parts to the store. “If” you have them on hand

    There is a bushing you buy with the Tri seal in case the yoke is rusty or has a really bad groove. Seriously it’s no yoke.

    Should have replaced the transmission tail shaft seal for drive shaft yoke at the same time. Never know when the seal may start leaking

    • @thisoldhooptie
      @thisoldhooptie  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would have but since its not leaking im waiting till it gets swapped out later this year with the 5.3 engine. 👍

    PRO TIP: make sure you can get your fill plug out before you take anything apart. that should be the first thing you make sure you can get apart. That way if you cant get it off you can at least drive it to someone that can

    Probably a better idea to use gray RTV on the outside of the seal (where it comes into contact with the pinion flange).

    I'm not the expert, but when you replace that seal and put back on the pinion nut you're supposed 2 put that nut back on 2 the exact specifications. I believe it's 15 or 30 "Inch pounds" NOT foot lbs. Because those old box chevys have a crush sleeve in the pinion. That's very important!!!

    • @thisoldhooptie
      @thisoldhooptie  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You may be right, im am definatly not the expert 🤣. Here is what is did, i counted the threads showing on top and bottom of the nut then market them before removing. Then when replaced I made sure it was the same. Nut was tight after and no leaks since replaced. The truck has been driven and parked many times since with no leaks. Seems to have done the trick.

      @@thisoldhooptie yea I did the same on my last truck and totally ruined the rear end. I wish I was more knowledgeable on these things, you just learn from trial and error? I see you just do it! And that's what really intrigues me, I feel I procrastinate 2 much on doing these things but when I do shit hits the fan when with my positive mind set hahaha.

      @@321homewrecker I always try to be positive, I also spend alot of time reading and watching other channels who know way more then me about things I'm unsure of. Once I feel I understand what is being done and the possible issues, I give it a go. I am fully aware that if I screw up it will cost me doing it twice. I really enjoy seeing what can be done in my garage. The fact that we have TH-cam, Google, and things like Chatgpt make diy so much easier. I dont think there is anything wrong with paying for work, I am curious as to what I can and can't do. Nothing like trial by fire 🔥 👍
